hey Pine Friday um I've been looking into U the federal court system um recently I heard that there was a debate or at least a question about the possibility of increasing uh the Supreme Court judicial seat numbers the associates um there there there is a chief U but the when I started looking the associates the associate judges on the Supreme Court have varied in number um after the Civil War when the 10th circuit was created uh momentarily well Abraham Lincoln appointed what a Supreme Court Justice associate to serve for that District um Congress and you know everything especially after you know Lincoln was assassinated um everything turned out in in what was it 19869 I believe 1869 hang on let me confirm that yeah yeah 1869 Judiciary Act of 1869 uh set the Supreme Court Justices at nine one Chief eight Associates um making up the nine and each Justice in accordance with that section four of of that particular act um each Justice was supposed to serve one term and in their District their circuit court right there was a correlation between Supreme Court judge and a circuit court and section four of the 1869 Judiciary Act or otherwise known as circuit judges act um required it's just the Supreme Court to serve one term in the Circuit Court in their District uh every so often I didn't actually record that part but U and and again in that same act they actually set up the ability for uh justices to retire um as long as they held their position for 10 years and attain the age of 70 they can retire they can give up their seat and they actually get paid for the rest of their life the same salary that they were making when they decided to step down pretty cool I'd like that job um so today though I mean again that was 155 years ago I think is 1869 2024 - 18 uh 69 um and see we actually a French I think a Frenchman Marone um in 1897 radio transmitted mors Co um I feel that was the Bedrock of our instant communication possibility today I mean think about it um Marone and his ability to transmit radio waves of communication data that's what it was Morse code but communication data um and information as opposed of taking weeks was now able to be done in moments um again not to take anything away from um again the first cables and stuff like that they got that but Marone it's a radio waves establish the ability for us today to communicate with radio towers that pick up our signals transfer them into um Electronic media that can be transmitted across wire don't think for a second that you're it's all radio communication the wire is definitely involved um anyway uh and yet nine nine circuits nine circuits right Brothers flu in 1903 nine circuits transistor the transistor the basis of all our our all of our technology today was uh invented and and found I'll call it found in 1947 by a couple of guys at Bell Labs um in that same period of time Congress split um the eighth circuit and created a 10th circuit now bran you the District of Colombia um circuit was already established but um this this particular split in 19 in the in the 19 the World War II framework um split the eth which created the 10th um Alaska joined joined the union and uh as a part of the ninth circuit and yet there's no representative for the tent circuit on the Supreme Court no one serve one term in their District um Kudos again not that I like communism or anything like that but Kudos the Soviet Union 1954 um they created first nuclear power power station that powered a electrical grid um 1969 Neil Armstrong walked on the moon I I believe that um 1980 1979 1980 big big time period for for me specifically um yeah registered for the draft here in the United States that was still a thing and I don't know if it is now but it was then um and Iran was considered one of the one of the places that were turning at the time now granted um it was resol without any military conflict um and and that was a great thing um but again at the time our Congress during that time period 1980 and the Iran hostages issue U the 11 11th circuit was created um because they div Congress divided a fifth circuit which was you know Florida Georgia Alabama uh Mississippi Louisiana and Texas and and split of the fifth circuit um retain one circuit as Florida Alabama Georgia and the other circuit as Mississippi Louisiana and Texas um but now we have 11 numbered judicial circuits and one DC circuit so that's that's how it's been um again so the bigger question is you historically United States of America has uh provided uh or has increased the justices count to balance the circuits the 1869 Act is the act that's in place now I haven't found yet where one of these acts uh relieved the Supreme Court Justices of serving one term within their circuit during their tenure you know um I got to do some more research on that one but again to the point I don't see anything historically that would prevent us from increasing the number of seats on the Su United States Supreme Court to match the number of federal circuits in America it only seems right thanks that's P Friday um I got this out early so hopefully there you know it doesn't look like I have a a stroke on one side take care guys uh have a good weekend and uh we'll see you on the next round with a different subject
