you want to know are the mccormic finishing sugars gluten-free they're new they're here for the holiday season they look like in incredible amount of fun I love anything that can add just like a Sprinkle or a hint of novelty to any kind of holiday season or holiday event holiday treat so I saw these they popped up on my feed and I immediately got excited I like L this is like real time 14 minutes ago I commented but is it gluten-free and actually they responded I didn't even see that they said all ingredients can be found here that product is a gluten-free claim then the product in the manufacturer line has been validated gluten-free gluten and gluten products in present will always be declared on the product label by common name of the gluten Source ooh love that I wish all brands took that approach also shout out to Ash for responding to me in record time I can't believe that they responded so quickly I literally just saw this as filming this so now we got to look at the ingredients cuz they're basically just saying we got to look at the ingredients and any uh clear source of gluten or any source of gluten is going to be clearly identified so let's go check it out so I'm going to copy this link because I'm on my computer into my search bar okay so I'm here at their web page I'm going to be honest I've already kind of looked around here and that I realized maybe it would be helpful to bring other celiacs and gluten-free folk into my process of determining if something is gluten-free as a fellow Celiac of 10 plus years and also as a registered dietitian who specialized in Celiac disease so immediately I'm extremely excited about this candy cane finishing sugar because this just looks like so much fun it looks like so much fun I hope that I get to bring some kind of some kind of this fun to my holidays cuz this just looks like a lot of fun um and I'm just going to choose oh yep that's of flavor I'm going to choose one of these to kind of check and look at we can check all three of them because they're on the screen um and you can also check them for yourself if you want to make your own inform choice so I'm going to click the candy cane finishing sugar and I'm looking for the ingredients so it says sugar red radish juice color and and extractives of peppermint so those are the ingredients and if you've watched my totally free labor rating class link down below where I cover a lot of complicated food labels in the United States and how to know if they're gluten-free and I help you build your own skills so you can do it quickly and more accurately than any label scanning app out there um if you have watched that video then you know that because we don't see any gluten here we don't need to be worried in general about about it not being gluten-free if it appears gluten-free it's likely very likely 95% chance that it's going to be glutenfree unless something went wrong um but even even if you're someone who is a little bit more nervous and you want some more reassurance I've already read this allergen statement I think it's an amazing brand statement an amazing brand approach to have such a clear allergen statement for your products and your policies I've read this and it says they clearly identify gluten just like that uh employee let me know on the Instagram comment that they they identify gluten they don't hide it under any ingredients but they clearly say for spices and natural flavors and actually for spices they're not allowed to hide like if if any spices was listed on an ingredient list that contained gluten they would have to list that in parenthesis after the spices spices can only be used if it is there to identify actual spices like cilantro cumin if there's another ingredient in the spice spes that is not a spice like wheat starch or something like that they would have to identify that in parenthesis afterwards anyways um they say that they don't they don't hide uh any ingredients that are an allergen like these in spices or natural flavors and they do say their facilities have allergen sanitation and hygiene programs in place employees follow good manufacturing practices and are trained on the importance of correct labeling and the necessity of Performing thorough equipment cleaning up and ch change over procedures to minimize cross contact of ingredients so in this case I'm going to go with this is probably gluten-free I would eat it I would not be worried about it unless you're someone who needs to be extremely strict which a very small population needs to be and that's between you and your provider and I would enjoy this finishing sugar um there was something oh there's something else I want to say for in a lot of cases a lot of Brands aren't always going to Mark something as gluten-free even if it could meet the criteria and qualify um even if they have other products that they are saying are gluten-free because it can be expensive um gluten-free certifications are extremely pricey but even just maintaining and verifying that products are gluten-free it might not be worth it to the brand especially if it's a limited time option or a limited time offer um you might also see this in other things like holiday shaped Rees I Do cover that in a lot of the different resources that if you want to poke around on my page um and I think I have a video coming out about that but I just wanted to make note of that um you can also watch again my totally free label reading class I it's completely free it's literally here to help you quickly and accurately identify if a food is going to be gluten-free in the United States more accurate than a any label scanning app that I've used cuz there's a lot of inaccuracies and it's here to help you feel confident and secure in your choices because I know it can feel really scary out there and there's a lot of things that you can do to feel empowered and there's a lot of things that once you understand are a lot less scary than you may have realized so that class is totally free it's link down below but I'm going to move on to one of the other sugaring sugar finishing sugars um just for the sake of example and having more examples I've actually not looked at the white frosting finishing sugar which also sounds like a lot of fun now that I read that I didn't even realize that was one of the uh flavors so here we have sugar they spelled vanilla I think wrong but we have sugar vanilla bean extracts oh my video is blocking this I wonder if it was blocking the last one um oh I can just scroll has sugar vanilla bean extractives and natural flavor so I would be worried about the natural flavor it is rare but sometimes that can hide gluten in the United States we talk about all of those confusing ingredients in that free label reading class by the way if you haven't watched it link down below um but because we've already read that allergen statement and they clearly State they don't hide gluten in natural flavors or they don't yeah like they're not hiding gluten under that name um we know that this is going to be okay and I would use it I I would be excited to use it I hope I hope that I can find these in store um I'm I would be so excited and interested to get my hands on these and all of that said are you excited by these do these sound interesting fun would you eat them um have you watched my free LA braiding class let me know in the comments down below what you thought of it or watch it link down below and all of that said my name is Taylor registered dietitian specializing in celiac disease and I will see you in the next one
