a little bit um hang on I've got a little bit of a new setup which I'm actually really really excited about um as you guys know Kim and I are expecting our third son so we've had a little bit of a little bit of a move around in the house so I've got a little bit a little bit of a new setup but I'm very excited about it's going to be nothing but better quality uh for you guys it's going to be a much better setup um I'm super excited about it so again if you guys are scoop Ultra members go ahead and fire those questions in Kim uh if I miss one she is in the chat uh moderating tonight uh Devon is in there as well I appreciate both you guys always being awesome uh again thank you guys uh we're going to go into uh the film room tonight cuz again I know that you guys love when we we break down a little film so we'll kind of go a little bit back and forth um this was the beginning of the game you know some of what chip Kelly's own and this is a very vanilla version of it but it's a nice way to kind of break some stuff down you know he uh he opens it up with Trey uh they did some stuff with quincha to start you know here they they break the the Huddle they did the little T formation thing um to start the game which was a tribute to what he Hayes they didn't show that in this little highlight reel um but it it was try and quinon and then they cut that out but then it's a lot of empty it's a lot of getting guys in space nice easy throw you know a guy that's had a great summer it's been G Scott and this is a guy that we need in the worst way because our tight end room is pretty baren but here's G up here and you know he doesn't have to do much but you know he gets he gets loose right here um obviously the defense is playing a very vanilla coverage um but again this is a nice easy throw and catch move the sticks this is something that g you know G is a guy that's got he's got big ass ration HEK in is a really talented guy um a guy that kind of went to bat to get CJ strad an offer um and that turned you know CJ str's turned into one of the top two or three players in the entire NFL um but I think G's got a real chance but this is some stuff that I love that Chip Kelly does this is Jayden Balor this is kind of uh this is number nine this is kind of the end of the road for Jaden Jaden is um you know he's not he's not a pup anymore he's he's senior and this is it um you know and he uh this is some stuff that I I I love that that chip does because this is such an easy way to get the fastest guy on the team the ball so you know this is a a quinan Judkins you know full Zone look here we have everybody turn um and run full Zone over here and then you bring the fastest guy you know and I I love when they do this little cheat motion where you kind of get him going ahead of time and then he could catch a dead Sprint across the line and you see them look back get the ball again I I get what they're doing with the blocking you know you're going to kind of fake stock and then crack inside in here and you're just going to try to hope that you can beat him with speed but to me I think it's you're better off if you just block him and block him now the hard part is that is a very long block and the hard part is when you have a very long block like that um that's where a lot of guys get dinged for holding so you know you they kind of you do a little like fake release stock block and then he peels in for the man player um you he's is and again because this is a Mecca this is one of the smartest players in Ohio State history playing the slot and he um you know they tell him come come in here and fake it because if you just say go block him for 7 seconds or whatever it is or four or five seconds to develop this that's an that's almost impossible it's so hard to do without getting called for holding um so I like what they're trying to do here but you know Jordan Hancock is you know one of the best corners in America um and he sniffs it out and makes a nice play this would have been a short Gainer but again I like the creativity because again when you've got all of this you know when when you're one of these these linebackers here or you're this safety and you see you know full Zone coming this way you see a six-man Zone and you see Quinn Chan who's maybe the best running back in the United States of America heading that way like that's going to draw a lot of attention you see these guys you they have to they have to honor that I mean they can't just say oh here comes Jaden Ballard back the other way you got to honor this um because if you don't do if you don't honor then all of a sudden he's going to go out the gate so um it's a real nice easy easy throw and catch Jaden balard is the guy that has to get involved this year I mean I mean they they have not trusted him his entire career they put him back as a punt returner um obviously we've had you know some very Dynamic um players at the position it's been the the most loaded run of of receivers in the history of college football so it's not totally his fault but it is uh it is tough um I'm going to check out uh check out all right Devin I see you got your question on here my scoop Ultram man I appreciate you brother I hope you had a nice date with your lady last night uh Ohio 7715 I just call you Devon because I know you Devon uh thank you for being an ultra member thank you for being a mod thank you for being awesome and thank you for Cujo being awesome uh re Stockdale is in the top 10 of several measurable testings on the team any insight on if he could be a possible impact player this year well I I always love guys like him that are the walk-on types that are guys that uh they've added value you David Adolf was a walk- on they got put on scholarship yesterday so um for those of you that aren't familiar with with what a walk-on is a walk-on obviously is someone who uh is is a guy who's he's paying for his school and he's still doing all of the same duties of playing football and scrimmaging and being at 6 a.m. workouts and summer conditioning and all that excuse me but he pays his entire way and that was something that I always thought was uh absolutely uh incredible just because I was sitting there and you know we had 30 or 40 of walk GS and these guys all go on to be bankers and doctors and successful guys CU you know they're not they're not really playing to you they all everyone dreams of going to the NFL but realistically they know that they they're planning to go to the NFL so they generally after football have as good as or not better careers in the scholarship guys CU you know they they're going to med school they're going to become dentist they're going to become Bankers so they add a an extra layer to the team um they always buoy the the the the team GPA because they're usually four-point guys or 3.8 guys are like really really high GPA guys so team GPA goes up um great kids that that work hard you know uh Tyler Wy was the guy that was a scout you he was he was a walk- on tank wh you guys that are from my Southern Ohio boys shout out to my Southern Ohio boys I haven't said that enough lately I apologize for that but tank was from ironon one of the toughest uh kids in Ohio State history he was a like a 5' 10 Center like offensive Center and like he was one of the strongest guys on theam team cuz he was compact he's a little short guy but he has a 450 500lb Venture 670 you 670 is on the squat just an absolute monster tough as nails and his senior year actually moved to fullback and Trussell put him on scholarship and he actually was a hammer he was a great fullback for us uh got a try out with the Cincinnati Bengals which I mean for a walk- on you know 5 foot 10 offensive lineman Center to actually get a triy out with the Cincinnati Bengals is incredible and again like he he was a great Walkin story but you David Adolf is a great walking story re stocksdale um you know we've got this uh uh Brennan tram we've got this like kind of tradition of CJ Saunders was the one that got a little um a couple cracks in the NFL it's uh it's it's an incredible program um and I think that he could be an impact guy again these guys a lot of times when these guys make impacts it's stuff that you guys don't notice you don't see it's not in the buck score but they run down on kickoff they're on the punt return team they're on the punt team uh they do a lot of dirty work they get in and block a little bit you know it's uh it's stuff that it's not like the they're not going to have the Gody box score numbers that Trey Henderson and JJ Smith are going to have it's more of um doing the Dirty Work and again and they do a lot of stuff from you know Monday to Friday you know in practices and workouts and whatever um that you guys don't see but it it adds value to the team because they're they're competitive they're tough um you know some of the best guys I played with were Walk-Ons like you know John Conroy was a guy that was to walk- on guard he got into the game in ' 05 when I got hurt in ' 05 at Penn State when we were one of the best teams in Ohio State history John Conroy was the guy they put in the game A Walk On from St Nation he' been on he was on scholarship you know trust used to like if a guy was a productive walk on he tried to put him on scholarship for his last couple years um but yeah it uh they they're they're so invaluable and that's why I I'm so against they're they're trying to cap the number of players on the roster at 105 and I think that's crazy I think you should have it about 120 um cuz you need bodies and it's a long season and guys get hurt and guys transfer and you got to get those uh those good guys in uh inside the building so I am uh let me I'm going to scroll up real quick so you guys have to bear with me because I got to run through this chat and make sure I didn't miss anything but I appreciate you guys and I apologize for the the slight technical difficulty um I I had to rearrange some stuff and my microphone was not actually plugged in so that was actually kind of hilarious so apologize for that um but yeah it's uh when you have to move a podcast setup and there's I don't know 80 different wires and inputs and you know if you forget one then it all goes to uh to kind of crap so I had to fix it real quick uh Caris Washington appreciate you uh as always um my question and again I hope uh you and Beth are having a great night my question is who will be the biggest surprise breakout this year that is a fantastic question who will be the surprise breakout of this year oh God because it's it's hard you know when you say surprise breakout I assume you want me to pick somebody that nobody's ever heard of um but when you have a team that has this much returning Talent it's really tough to do that you know because when you have a um you know two veteran defensive ends Jack and uh JT when you have um when you have uh Ty Le you know Sanders I mean Kaden McDonald would be a great candidate now it's hard to break out as a defensive tackle um because you he might just dominate on the inside but he might not accumulate a lot of sacks or stats or whatever um but he would be a great candidate in my opinion um I I think Carson hinman's going to take a step I really do I mean again I he went to that Center um you know Charles Bentley's the center Symposium was fantastic there uh I think going to take a nice step uh really I mean G Scott I me for G Scott this is the end of the road you know he wants to keep playing next year I he's got to have a big year and he's got block better he's going to be more physical he's going to be a tougher player than he's been um he's going to be a better player than he's been you know I mean and again our tight ends are we a nice little run with with Rucker and Kade Stover and those guys were mid R and NFL picks and you know if you're if you're a tight end in this offense it's it might be the greatest position in the entire in the United States of America for a college player because nobody cares about you when you when you play tight end here and I mean that sincerely when when you're a defensive coordinator and you look at Ohio State and you see JJ Smith eka Uka Carell Tate Trey Henderson quinan Judkins and then like who's who's they got G Scott okay like no one he's going to be single covered for days nobody's G to try to stop him so if you're good and you're hungry you could eat that roll up you know eat it for lunch I mean you can talk 30 35 catches you know get you 6 700 yards um get some touchdowns you know again he he did good in a spell uh last year when you know when Kate server was hurt and it was funny we had a prediction you know bold predictions for one of the games last year and and we said g Scott would score a touchdown because we knew we knew that Kade was out we knew that he was hurt and was getting held out it's it like I think the first drive G Scott scored a touchdown nuk had that one and I was like hey you know it helps to know people on Inside the Woody here but I uh G Scott could be I think G Scott could be a guy you and again I've been I've been critical of him I've been critical of you know everybody CU again I'm just fair and and I don't it's not because I'm a hater it's not because I'm whatever but you know I'm I'm critical like if something's not the standard you I I don't want to go come off the top rope and be ridiculous about it but you know you gota you got to go through some stuff and uh yes I'd say G Kade McDonald Carson Hinman would be great picks um you know to to break out um but that that right side I feel like it's going to be Carson either Carson has been at guard or if they want to really lock down the interior put uh Josh friy Right Guard it put George Fitzpatrick right tackle so that'll be an interesting battle because it really comes down to who's the BET what's the best past protecting five person unit in my opinion um and that'll be like I said that'll be kind of the battle of Camp because the good thing is is like you know if you put one of those guys out on the edge um one of those backup tackles and they got to go against Jack and JT like there there isn't a better set of ends in the country so you're got to find out real quick if you're going to get baptized by fire or not so I um I appreciate you uh I hope you and Beth are having a great night I appreciate you guys uh Larry Daniels uh appreciate you my friend thank you for being Ultra member when did the NCAA start to allow lineman to use hands do you think it's one of the reasons that pass the passing game started to thrive that is a fantastic question and I honestly do not know I I don't know if there was a time where you're only allowed to use like the old flipper technique and not use your hands um I think that I think something that is really helped passing games Thrive obviously every single rule that goes into football right now is all slanting everything towards offense because these TV deals these TV networks these you know they they don't want 10 to3 in the national championship game they don't want Ohio State Michin to be 7 to3 or like my senior year at 07 when the dinosaurs roam the Earth we won 14 to three and like you know it wasn't it was the most beautiful game of football I've ever seen because it was freezing cold rain we literally could we threw for 50 yards but we ran for two like 230 um and Michigan I don't even I think Michigan had 100 yards of offense like our defense pulverized them beat the living tar out of them and again that was you know you all to talk about games like this guy like my favorite kind of game just pulverize the team like absolutely just run the ball they and again I I hate the stupid cliches oh they know it's coming they can't stop it but that day they knew it was coming and they couldn't stop it we kept we read like four different plays and we just flipped them and we couldn't throw the ball so they could put 10 guys in the box and uh our defenses Vern goson and cam Hayward and Laur nidus and Marcus Freeman and those guys I mean smash you know Malcolm Jenkins I mean smashed those guys so it was that was beautiful football but I think that you know the overall athleticism of the game and the rules that have changed um along with you know things like targeting you know K well why does targeting matter I was like well I got a I got news for you you know any of you guys that have ever dreamed of you you guys play the college football video game like I do or play Madden or you watch football incessantly like I do um imagine you're that wide receiver and you got to go run a slant you know a slant is just a little like you run five yards and you know run you know diagonally across the field when you know that that safety can kill you and there's no real reprecussions like there's no targeting then it's a totally different BX now if that guy hits you he's suspended and you know in the NFL when you're suspended you literally lose money like you lose a game check a big game check or in college football you you're suspended for you know uh the next game or half of the next game whatever it is you're thrown out of the current game and then you're suspended for half of the next game so I mean it's a severe penalty um which again is I think it's I think it's good for the game do I miss the day where it was absolute madness out there I do but I also understand that you know you don't want guys to be you know um CTE and in really bad shape neurologically because they took too many severe hits that you could have prevented so I think that um that has helped the passing thr and and hon linen are just much better athletes now I mean you look at the body types the length and the amount of training uh I think honestly and again this isn't I'm not old head new head guy but if you look at the athleticism across all sports right now it's never been at a higher level now I'm not I'm not saying they're as tough as they used to be I think that the toughness is down I think the athleticism is up and I think that anybody with eyeballs could say go watch like Conor McDavid in the NHL go watch you know LeBron in the NBA or Anthony Edwards or some of these Nicole yic these guys that are super freaks that you know they're all over the court Durant Joel embiid uh go watch the NFL and and look at the how how fast the giant miles Garrett like I there weren't guys like that 20 years ago 25 years ago I there there there were some I just don't think there were as many you know obviously you can go back to Lawrence Taylor and say the guys oh yeah we had this guy but you know you look at the offensive Lan 80s 90s versus today today's guys are much leaner much better Shi Much More Much More agile faster um and I think a lot of it has to do with nutrition and training and personal training and you know all of the the the ways of the world now um so I think that that's helped the passing game Thrive uh again like you know the games you know between illegal illegal touching or illegal next excuse illegal touching um illegal contact excuse me that's the one that's like if you touch a receiver after five yards it's a penalty uh the way they call pass interference now I think the sophistication of the offensive um you know the offensive schemes where you know everything's way more spread out than it used to be that obviously helps the passing game as opposed to the olden days where it was tight end fullback you know two receivers like you know again that wasn't that long that was you 15 years ago that's how football was but now it's three wide receivers is the norm nickel defens is the norm um so I think that uh you know seven on seven football in the south I think it's helped it Thrive because I think that a lot of these kids they show like when JJ Swift shows up to Ohio State and he's like yeah I could I've already killed guys that are as good as you that and on the seven on seven circuit when he's going against some five star kid um I think all of that helps uh uh this like I said the slant TS offense the fact that there are so many offensive head coaches um I think that helps you know I mean a lot of defensive coaches are going the way of the dodo because if defensive coaches don't change and become Progressive on offense they're not employed for very long so you go look around who's getting hired as Ryan Day Lincoln Riley um you know who the Carolina Panthers to for Bryce young um the offensive coordinator from Tampa Bay uh you know it's it's kind of Just The Way of the world I mean the offensive coach is kind of rule the roost right now and U I think that and a lot of those guys are passing game guys like Ryan D you played quarterback so what do you think he wants to do throw the ball and he knows the concept so that's a fantastic question Larry I really appreciate that um I keep cranking along make sure and Kim I love Kim to death cuz she is texting me if I miss anybody you guys are the best Kim Kim literally texted me the super chat questions I uh Kim I love you you're the best um all right I got Googs next so yeah like I said if you guys if you guys need any uh have any questions you're a Super Chat member or excuse me a a scoop alra member this is something we're going to do probably once a week uh you know maybe once every two weeks or so so just when it feels right to hey let's you know if you're scoop Ultra member let's do a little Q&A um and we'll also take the Super chats as well U but again we just appreciate you guys that are scoop Ultra members because it really it helps out our pay it forward and again we've signed up a bunch of new members to Buckey scoop.com a lot of veterans you know we're very Pro um military here and we' we've talked about that at nauseum so we appreciate you guys how out Googs Bob call me Googs googly I'll just call you Googs appreciate you Googs thank you for being Ultra member my friend Kirk do you believe that Ryan Day leverages himself by announcing the starters on the entire depth chart before the akan opener in 6 weeks why besides constant success is OSU so hated honor it um here's the thing that's interesting about us you know with with uh with Ryan day you know he has done away with having a depth chart which is bizarre you know it's kind of a a thing you know trust had a depth chart Urban had a depth chart you know when you used to open the program up in the old days like you know there's the depth chart and it says will Howard SL Devin Brown or whatever and they would put ores in like if there was two guys that were kind of the ties you co-starters like for for running back you know if Urban Meyer ran the team he'd say starting running back Trey Henderson or Quin Shan Judkins because literally they're kind of the same they're the same stature um Ryan got rid of the depth chart which which you know Harbaugh did that too which I I thought was kind of funny when he did it but I uh I think that you know there's there's Merit to doing it because I think that um you open up a can of worms in the transfer portal era because you know on a depth chart traditionally there's you know there's 22 spots on offense and defense then you've got a punter a kicker a Long Snapper kick returner punt returner so there's you know double that so there's 10 four 4 so like there's like 54 names on a standard depth chart give or take and some might name a third down back whatever but I I think that when you don't have um when you have you know the the parents and the agents and the the the amount of stuff that goes on in the transfer portal like I don't think it benefits you to to to name you know a two deep and then you're you're missing a kid and he's upset and you calling Dad calling the agent hey you know I'm not even on the depth chart I'm not even second string third string man I got to get out of here um I think it's a shot to the ego and and I think that that's something that Ryan removed and again I don't think that he's being a snowflake for doing that I just think that it's something that um why put yourself out there and again like you know you could say oh well the opponents might have some sort of Advantage like the death TR doesn't matter it's stupid you know and our Lads has a great death tro that's pretty accurate so if you need a death Thro you can go do that Phil seal has a great one as well but I think that when you have um the portal ER it's hard to put one out again I wouldn't put one out and and again I don't care what people call me but I just I know that kids are sensitive and we live in an era of sensitive children now on the team and if they're not listed or they're not you know the second team guy or the starter or whatever then um it can be uh you know the bells of St Mary's ringing in the Woody a so I don't know I I don't mind it um I would do it I mean honestly I'll I'll probably probably do kind of a a projected depth chart show you know um leading up to games I'll just kind of say this is how I think is going to start um and things can move obviously you know guys can get hurt during practice and whatever but I think people like to have something to look at on paper and again that's why I'm gonna have Phil Steel on pretty quick here um and I'll let you guys know when that is it'll be another live show but he loves Buck ice cuop he came to our outing he is a great Patriot a great uh great person and just one of the uh the the the Godfathers of of college football media he is the best and he loves Bucky cuep so I appreciate my dude so much um why and again this is the second part of this great why besides constant why behind constant success is OSU so hated honor it um you know I I just think people in general hate greatness especially consistent greatness I mean it's just part of the territory you I think people um I think that there's a a media Market that's dishonest that uh they make a lot of money by harassing Ohio and Midwestern Sports F especially Ohio because I noticed like with when Baker Mayfield was with the Browns when LeBron was in Cleveland when Ohio State Urban Meer it it seems like there's always like an inordinate amount of press on like first take or Colin card and Colin card is a genius like Colin card is is a gazillionaire because he knows how to get a rise out of people and get ratings and he's wicked smart like I mean he's one of the the guys that really knows what he's doing but I mean he he was always talking LeBron always talking Baker always talking Buckey because Ohio fans care more about sports I believe than any other section of the entire country and again call me wrong but I mean did who who who sells the most merchandise oh highly about guys who sells the most tickets who who does who these these bow games murder each other to to hope to get a bull bid too the Buckeyes the Buckeyes come to town we sell tickets we you know we drink the town dry we sell out every hotel we stay for two days before the game we stay a day after the game so you know our fans are they're awesome I mean even I'll never forget of all the bowl games I played in I played a couple National Championship Games whatever like when we went to the alamoo bile the alamoo bile is not a and that is a like a C or D tier bowl game you know back in the old days when it was the Big 10 versus um the Big 12 we played Oklahoma City we had four losses our fans like packed that place in San Antonio and it was like three days or four days after Christmas and I'll never forget how deep our fans rolled you know cuz I thought you know you got to remember my game that I went through my freshman year we played the Fiesta Bowl it was in Arizona beautiful part of the country playing Kansas State um it was Kel's last game so we had a huge crowd for that one but when our fans traveled to like a to watch our 7 and four team you know it sucked all year like actually you know play and we played a great game and we smashed Oklahoma State but I'll never forget that so I think that people are jealous of Ohio State I think people are jealous of consistent success because there's been no unit that's been more successful over the last you know 30 years in Ohio State I mean if you go to really like the I say I want say the mid90s you know Coupe you know whatever but when trust started you know you start 02 to now nobody can really touch us except for Alabama Alabama's got us the national championships obviously but you know for the first you know from 02 to 08 like Bama wasn't what Bama became you know obviously Bama became the the monster but they weren't that for the first seven or eight years I mean Ohio state would have smoked them we I mean they like I always tell people like Alabama when I played was never a factor at all nobody cared about Alabama they didn't even exist they weren't even in like the top 25 so you know they became incredible under ni sa obviously so I'm not taking anything away from but I think people get um they get a little they're jealous of the success they're jealous of our our fans are great they're boisterous they're loud um some people think it's annoying I think it's amazing and and you know our supporters you know again I don't even like us the word fans or Fanatics because I feel like they're supporters to me because they support what we do cuz if we don't if we don't have them then nothing exists it's this like with I scoop like you guys support what we do I love seeing you guys I mean a lot most of you guys have my phone number text me all the time which I love because again I I love having a real like you know bond with you guys and I appreciate all you guys um always being on here and and and and chatting and having a blast and kicking it on a Saturday night having something to look forward to every night um but I uh you know I I think that my favorite part about Ohio State supporters is that if you lose they're extremely hard on you and and honestly like people are like cre you're crazy why would you ever want that you know they're big meanies and they might say Mean Tweets and whatever and I'm like I love that because because again if you win and you win the big ring you win the whole thing then all of a sudden you you're you're the tier of agulation that you get is is second to n there's there's no higher agulation you could ever one than being like a star on a national championship team at Ohio State you know so again you can't have it both ways you can't have it oh the pendulum you know is this up up here when we win the title and it's way over here when we lose to Virginia Tech or we lose um to Missouri or whatever lose to Michigan um but I like that because again the day that our supporters stop caring is the day that we're going to be you know Purdue or Michigan State or you know Tennessee or you one of these ala Rand programs that nobody cares about and whatever you know they're irrelevant um they're just kind of pablum but you know we're not that and again I hope it never changes and again I like that our fans are hard of them and again if the kids can't take that then they can go play at akan they go play at Malone or they can go play at Ken state or Walsh or wherever they want to play it because you know you got to have a chin to play here it's tough again I and I lost two national championships so I mean there's there's no greater expert in the world on coming back from losses and being in this town after we lost to the Florida Gators got massacred so you know again but again I would was fine with it I was like look you know when you when you lay an egg and you stink and you suck like that you know I'm good with it like you know sometimes you need that medicine a little bit you need a little bit of that Humble Pie and again I loved it so I'm going to keep rolling through here again Kim I appreciate you being my co-pilot you guys want Kim to get on the show one of these times I keep want her to get on and she uh I think she do really well um Kim I love you so much she sending me all these things right now all right I got to get my uh let me get you on the screen I'm trying to find you guys all right Charles what's up AE AE is in the house Sean shck what is up brother oh I gotta I got I got I gotta put this on this is not a super chat but this was pretty great so you want to talk about like something that's cool um um hang on one second uh let me find this real quick I'm in the scoop 13 chat so my guy Sean shrock actually is rocking a Kirk Barton Jersey which I thought was fantastic and again I was very um you I would have loved to worn these black jerseys because I think these are the best jerseys in Ohio State history in my opinion so uh he texted me that I do not want to talk to your number on there that is sick my dude I appreciate you for doing that um so yeah I appreciate you Sean I appreciate all you guys that are on here every night Torah uh Devin Ste Chris you know all you guys Barb um Blitz I mean all you guys are all in here obviously uh Beth and Carris love you guys to death you guys are awesome I appreciate you guys coming out to the deal sorry guys I am digging to find these Ultra chat so bear with me while I'm digging uh Kim should be the producer that'd be absolutely hilarious um let's see you guys love B the Wolverines that is absolutely funny huh Kirk when you shut down I was directed to menace to sports oh really that's funny I love Zach so I mean I I have nothing bad to say about Zach Zach's a brother of mine so I appreciate him Dev sorry okay I found these sorry I have to scroll through my chat to so I can put you guys on the board who's who will score the first ring touchdown receiving touchdown first sack first interception okay this is good I like this first rushing touchdown God I really want to see quinan Judkins I really do I think that for whatever reason I think that they're going to try to get it to trade this is a ceremonial thing first touchdown of the season rushing receiving touchdown I think it's going to be JJ I really do I mean I think JJ's getting a touchdown the AC game I think that's kind of something that they've pre-ordained and they want to have happen and you know I mean the the hype Monster is real and why not throw you know some jet fuel on top of the fire and let it just completely ignite um first sack I'm gonna go CJ Hicks that's a little bit out of left field but I mean the way they they've been blit they were blitzing CJ in Spring and the way that he can Blitz with his speed um I think he's a guy they're gonna feature as the Blitzer I really do I think he's gonna be a guy who's going to be a significant pass rusher um from the linebacker depth and um that'll be good first interception Davidson OS I think he's going have a huge year I think that people are um you know if you ask me who's better between him and Denzel I mean Davidson's nasty I Davidson's got big time upside man he's a little taller a little lengthier um I think that he'll see more targets defensive targets where your know teams are throwing his way and uh I think he gets his hands on one again I mean he gets s on man he's going to the house he is not he is not playing around so I uh I love David SOS in the chat I want to hear who you guys you guys answer this question for me who will score the first rushing touchdown first receiving touchdown first sack first interception CU there are so many different like realistic people that you could put in that because there's probably going say will Howard for the rushing touchdown I think we're going to we're going to run read option again I going to break down ship Kelly a little bit um I'm going to get to that in a second um Barb Barrett appreciate you my friend uh any concerns about our kicking game have uh have you seen any of our kickers work any concerns about the kick game I think Jaden Felding is a guy that they felt comfortable with I mean they let the the uh luk grow Award winner walk which I was despondent but he's only going to be eligible for one more year he's going to kick that one year at Alabama um and I think that you know with Jaden fing they've got him for three more years so I think it was kind of a did we go after this kid cuz I mean to to me I'm loading loading up on a great kicker if you get the grer award winner because he kicked at Miami of Ohio so he's two hours away I have taken him in heartbeat but you know you you guarantee you lose Jaden Felding in the portal instantly so it's kind of one of those you know do you do you do this or that um so for me I don't know I I I mean I I I I don't know I I would have gone after the the the kicker from the grer W and put him in this offense and slept like a baby at night cuz you our kicking game has not been good and for whatever reason and again I'm I'm not trying to be overly negative but like we can't find a guy that can make a 50 yard field goal consistently like I mean Michigan had Jake Moody and they get kickers that have these cannons for legs but for some reason like we've got a national reach we have the most powerful offense in the country and we can't find a guy that can consistently make a 50- yard field goal so I don't know um but I think Jaden fing will be better this year and I think that um you know like I said with with the infinite coach rule where we have all these extra coaches now you can kind of have a defective special teams coordinator and not have it soak up one of your your 10 on the field recruiting coaches so um I know that there's guys in the building that going be working special teams some quality control guys and uh I think our kicking game should it should be excellent this year um let me see uh sorry guys I'm scrolling you guys the thing I love about you guys the chat is awesome and man it is a uh it is is a long um it is a lot of a lot of stuff to go through so I uh appreciate you Devin does not Min words he's she where this blocking sucks and has spent all off season focusing on that yeah I mean I think that all of our Titans need to get better at walking I think that that's the thing that they can actually do um uh Googs what is up I'll give you another one since I just found it uh Kirk the humongous Australian planner stands well on the running for the starting role uh what have you heard on special team subjects I kind of you know with with him and uh Jaden Felding I think that they're both in the running uh F Fielding the punter Styles is a prime K return I I I think that you know the punter is going to be a coin flip right now um I think Lorenzo Sal Jr needs to be on the field as a return guy kick return and punt return I think he I'd put him on the field over Jaden Ballard because he'll do something with it the thing that drives me crazy is our our punt game is non-existent now and I I I think Lorenzo Sal Jr is dying to do something and you know our our um our cornerback room is is the most loaded in the history maybe of college football uh with our top guys then you look back you got Jan Matthews Jr you've got um Jordan I mean uh Jordan Hancock you've got Calvin Simpson hun Bryce West I mean Aaron Scott I mean you've got this ungodly number of quarterbacks then you got the Jr who played against us two years ago when he's at Notre Dame as a receiver and he's kind of you trying to flip to be a corner and compete but I mean God bless it's the most loaded room we've ever had so I mean like I'm sure he's dying to find a role where he's on the team CU he red shirted last year he played four games and red shirted so I I would love to have him be a kick returner because he is a speed demon burner like the guys I talk to you know that train these guys can fly and I was like well we got to get him on the field if a guy can run and he doesn't really have a role like I I love there is nothing in this world that I love more than giving a guy who deserves a role again that's why it drove me crazy when AAA was back there Fielding punts and again I know that AA is is the most sure-handed guy in the world and all we do is fair catch it but I'm like dude like let somebody go do it and do something with it like you know I mean because I guarantee you if you put Lorenzo junr back there he's not going to fair catch every time he wants to go do something with that ball go get in the end zone because again all these guys like the sand is falling out of The Hourglass as we speak um and he's you he ain't got that much longer he's older than Sunny you know Sunny's draft eligible this year and Lorenzo Jr who I think is a really good player and he's a Dynamic Athlete um he's got to find a way to contribute and and catch the eye of some some folks in the NFL because again when he runs and they look at their stopwatch they'll be like yeah this guy this guy got NFL talent but he's got to find a role and again it's not his fault that he joined Ohio State and we just happen to land two five star corners and you know we've got this we have this crazy amount of talent like if you guys if you guys play the college football video game we have like 12 cornerbacks on the team on the roster which is insane you got to move some of them to safety but yeah I uh appreciate you guys and again I appreciate you Kim uh Pooh beard what is up brother appreciate you uh thank you for being on uh the message bo uh Pooh beard is one of the greatest and funniest guys of all time because he literally um 12 again this for be an ultra member he joined Buckey sc.com and he's on our message board constantly and he's such a great ad because he's so hilarious and he always has he's really sharp insightful things so again I know you guys love this this content I know you guys love the podcast I see the numbers um you guys are the smartest Ohio State fans the best Ohio State fans and you guys really want to know what's really going on inside the program so I guys watch us and we appreciate that you know Nevada and I um but he's on our site man and that is the that's where it's at I mean you want to really know what's going on inside the team and plus it's like it's like a party that's 24 hours a day because people are always on there talking about something so I love it I love our online community on bucky.com so again I know that's a plug but I'm telling you if you if you join it man I tell people it's like Hotel California man you you you join it man you're never leaving because people love it I they just they get on it and they get on your phone while you're watching your show and it's so fun F but I appreciate you poo beard uh Kirk I know you like to podcast right after the game so would you ever go uh to the first half of one got a ticket with your name on it I go to a decent number of the home games um I the hard part for me and I I hate that I'm admitting this I hate this and and you guys all think less of me after I say this but I generally leave like at some early part of the fourth quarter what which I hate I hate as much as you could ever imagine cuz like I never leave any sporting event early like ever like when when I take my kid to a Blue Jackets game we stay until they're done doing the three stars at the end of the game like I never leave sporting gam early but when I have this podcast and I have you people you know counting on us to get on here so we can tell could decipher what was going on tell them what was going on give them the best analysis in the game uh which is what we do um I got to get home you know so when you're parked at the stadium man it's like you guys know like if you if you wait till the end of that game man it is gridlock for hour and a half 2 hours to to break out of the that little lane avenue Corridor where it's you all the roads are blocked off and and now that they've they've tore up the the hospitals is even worse so um but I love going to the games I you know again because we only get you got remember we only get eight of them a year so you 365 days only eight of those days are game days at home um so I love going to the games um again we're going to do uh some get togethers on Fridays uh you know of some of these games where we'll invite you guys out uh it'll be uh Town Hall Buffalo Wild Wings or Twin Peaks vary the locations so you know so some of you guys uh like different ones but you know we'll we'll have like a Friday meet up and you know I I like doing the stuff on Friday CU I know a lot of people like to tailgate tailgates are hard because people um you know they they want to come at all different times and you plus a lot of people super sious on the day games and a lot of people are basket cases cuz they're so nervous if we're playing like Michigan or someone people never so the Friday before the game is kind of the thing I like to do because everyone can kind of hang out uh eat some chicken wings drink some iced tea you know have a good time um so that's probably what we're going to do but Pooh beard um shoot me a DM I'll give you my number I appreciate you brother as always always being on here always being hilarious um would love to you know if you ever want to catch up grab a beer whatever it'd be great so and again that's for all you guys I mean again I I'm I'm not I am not hard to find I you guys know I'm not I'm not hard to find at all um Sean shrock appreciate you brother uh again thanks for that Jersey is fabulous so I hope you enjoy it and let me know when you want to meet up and I will get that Inked up for you uh appreciate you my man uh and thanks for being Ultra member I see that in chip Kelly's blocking scheme he likes to use the pin and pull could you please break that down I would love to let me uh see if I can where put put my pen got to get my pen let me uh dig this thing out real quick and see if I can find it yeah y okay all right I got to see if we've got one I don't know if I have one on here so I'll try to see what is the best way to do this um pin and pull is basically a play where you um essentially there is somebody that does a pin and another guy that does a pull you a play that was uh the pin and pull play let me see if I can find it real quick ezekiel's um humongous you know 85 yards through the the heart of the South that was a pin pole play um so let me see if I have that I I don't know if I do um I'd love to have it if I have it in my Tator CU that would make it even better CU I could actually draw on it but I um you know it's a play where you you get a lot of guys out oh praise God we are lucky um this might not be true pin pull but it's pretty close to it okay it's not it's not it's not perfect but it kind of it has some of the same uh some of the same metrics so I'm going to break this down real quick because this is uh this is some film that is going to be uh so this is this is obviously 85 through the heart of the South um so here you see the mechanism of the PIN and the the pin can be uh a receiver coming back you know coming down into motion and pinning a guy or it could be a tight end pinning a guy here we just use an inline tight end um and this gets a little wonky and then you see Ezekiel turn the afterburners on and go to the house but let me get to the back end of it so you guys can see kind of what the pinning and pulling is so here um you know it really depends on where these guys are line Alabama was an was an odd front like kind of a three Force defense so you got a guy who's a little bit here um but generally like you want to pin somebody and then you pull around um or you could Motion in a guy and you could you could pin this guy it just depends on the alignment uh who's pulling so here Billy's pulling um so this is kind of the pin with Taylor Decker and again versus Alabama's defense is totally different than than most normal fronts um because they have an kind of an Oddish front um back here uh ideally you'd want elfline to get out here and pull um I think he's trying to but we gave him some penetration so you know the pin um again this is not a perfect pin pull but this is close this is close to that I can diagram it for you um he's pinning he's pulling okay now sometimes it could be a tight end you know if this guy if this guy say that this end was aligned wider and this imagine that this guy's not here then you could have Nick Vanette here pin the end and then You' have Taylor Decker pull so it just depends on the alignment who's pulling so here they had Taylor Taylor does the pin and um and Billy does the pull so again versus other teams it'd be the opposite so there's the pin the pull um you EV this is the best part you know Evan Spencer knocks out a guy kills him and then it knocks out a second guy who's unblocked you know so if Evan doesn't knock him if he doesn't knock this guy out then this guy's making the play but hey in life sometimes it's better to be lucky than good you know so Billy Billy Billy Price you know he gets to the top level and you know knocks this guy out and it I mean it just all kind of just works out perfect um and again this is why you recruit great tailbacks you have guy like Ezekiel that little crease with the afterburn is turns into touchdown you know go go good guys so that is that is a close version of pin Poole I'll try to find you a better one I apologize that I don't have one um but against part of don't a live show but I appreciate you that that's a great question but basically it gets guys out in space it gets guys running horizontally um it's why you recruit guys like David Sanders Jr and Paris Johnson guys that are quick and can get out on that edge um but but chip loves it because he likes to to stretch the field horizontally not just vertically you always hear stretch the field you think of um Al Davis you know and the Oakland Raiders throwing long touchdowns you know the vertical shot um but you can stretch it horizontally too which is what pin pull does and again I like it because you know the backside doesn't have to BL anybody it's the guy at the front side if you get a good pin and you got a tackle that's athletic like it can be a very dangerous play it's not it's not something that I would say is like the main course like part of your running game but it's something that's like a good appetizer or good side dish part of your running game like I don't think there's not te like their core thing is pin pool because it's easy to stop if you can if you expect it coming consistently um but it's something that's it's a great change up to um running inside Zone inside zone is going to be our focal point this year you know and we'll do um some counter stuff and that kind of thing but you know chip is a Zone re guy he always has been like when he led the nation in rushing two years ago with Dorian Thompson Robinson and Zack herban I mean that was that was the gig so all right I uh but I appreciate you Sean um let me see if I can get to these next ones Kim I appreciate you I I uh okay let's see I love Caris you guys are putting these raccoons to the show that's hilarious so it's funny like I love reading the sh but I don't get to read a ton of it because when I'm D on the show I mean guys like we're I mean we're running the show the running the show is tough but this is a uh this is an absolute fantastic uh deal and I love ding this and thank God I have Kim for helping me out um she's the absolutely best she says it's Ultra night she's the best um okay I got a super chat here so I'm just literally scrolling down the chat so I will get to all these questions I promise you guys JoJo for 4 312 thank you for the five appreciate you my friend I keep hearing about how will ard's arm does not have the accurate or does he have an accuracy issue or an arm strength issue I think he's a good quarterback well you know I I think that he was probably I he he has a good enough arm guys like Ryan day I I know how much he paid this guy to come here and Ryan Day again and and I could be wrong but I think Ryan day is a very good evaluator of quarterbacks and you look at the guys that he he's taken um you he he bet the farm on getting Justin Fields here worked out great um took CJ stoud late uh which I thought was obviously an incredible move developed Haskins uh you know I mean it's I he's he's a guy that in my opinion you know if he again this is this is the year you know this is Ryan Day it's not his career I'm not trying to be that dramatic but this is a year where he has to win a National Championship he has to you know this is in a year where you could just go beat Michigan and you hope to be a top finish top six or four like you could to win the whole thing this year so he had to go out and find a quarterback he had a bullet his old quarterback and I I I'm just telling you like he likes W hard and you know who likes a more ship Kelly ship Kelly with Chip Kelly and will Howard together and will Howard's running ability because for me like I know that everyone is you know the quarterback it's all about you know the arm power the accuracy the touch I want the whole package like give me a guy that could run to too if he can run like will Howard can run and you know again will Howard you know people watch this from from Kansas City but like Jaden Ballard would be their number one receiver at Kansas State you know I they their their top his top weapon ever was Duce vaugh a 5 foot five running back that got drafted by the Cowboys or five6 or whatever he was he's too short for the tape at the combine so I mean you know now he's got quinon and he's got Trey and he's got JJ and he's got a mecha bua I mean you know like he doesn't have to be like Superman he doesn't have to be Godzilla out there he just has to you know take what they give him do what chip tells you and again he's never been coached like he's been coached out chip and Ryan and again those guys got him in the in the furnace right now and he's going to be good like again I I don't you know again mechanically Ryan gets a lot of stuff cleaned up he coaches these guys very hard it's not they're not just eating you know they're not just having tea and crumpets in the quarterback room it's you know Hellfire and brimstone and that's good so I think it'll make him better again he's had eight months with Chip Kelly now and um excuse me not not eight like fiveish months with Chip Kelly so I think he's going to be um a whole different player than he was at Kansas State and this offense is going to be awesome so I think that he's going to be outstanding uh but that is a great question again I appreciate you my man again I you know again Ryan has got a lot on the line and this is the guy that uh he picks I mean he could have gave K mcord the same nil deal that he gave will Howard but he didn't so you know and again we almost made it to the dance with a quarterback that was good enough to only end up at Syracuse again I'm not trying to denigrate K McCord I don't care about k mcord at all but you know like when he hit the open market you kind of are what you are what teams you know are willing to offer you and pay you and guarantee you for a starting job and Nebraska passed on him you know most you know the top basically 100 schools in the country passed on him he ended up in Syracuse so again that's not being negative it's just a fact it is what it is um all right let me uh keep rolling Dave matys appreciate you my friend H great question uh congratulations on five months of scoop Ultra membership that is awesome thank you brother um what was your mindset going into Camp uh this time of year were you ever worried about losing your spot to anyone if so who uh when will day announce the QB lastly Styles or Hicks uh oh well Nevada's not here so I'm just going to take his IO from him so IO appreciate you guys this is a great question what was my mentality going into Campus S of the Year well I think that it varies dramatically based upon what's going on in your in your trajectory like when you're trying to win a job like when I was a so you I I had five Training Camps at Ohio State and my mindset was dramatically different across the board so my first year um in ' 04 we um you know excuse me 03 I was a freshman no no uh expectation of playing at all and I was just trying to survive I wasn't trying to survive I wanted to thrive like I wanted to do good and be good in the drills and be tough and do whatever but at the same token you know I I had no pressure to play I that was a team that was that was literally the team the year after we beat the Miami Hurricanes so you know I nobody expected me to play I didn't expect to play but I end up making the two deep out of Camp because I had a great training camp they put me as the second team left tackle now I did not play that year um I remember we were playing Washington which is our home opener and we we're to the point where it's a blowout and they get ready to put the twos in and I'm thinking I might be I'm going in I'm thinking I'm going into the game because on the depth chart in the program it says Kirk Barton freshman left tackle second team behind Rob Sims so you know there second offensive lines up and I'm like I'm over there and I'm like you am I getting ready to go into this thing you know I mean first college game and whatever but I really did not want to play I I did not want to play I did not want to go on the field that night because back then if you played one single play Then you burn your red shirt and I was like I don't want to waste a year of Eligibility playing two games so and when I look back at it it was genius by me because the only two games our backup L and get into that entire year was that Washington game they did one drive and then they got into two drives against Indiana that was it so the rest of the time the ones rather cuz our offense stunk and we couldn't score points so we didn't pull the starters like ever so you know I was happy so 03 I was just trying to make a name for myself work 04 trying to win a job I missed all a spring because I had a shoulder surgery and then I sprained my ankle severely uh to the point where I was in a c i was on crutches because it was so bad so I missed all of spring trying to win the spot I lost the job kept battling ended up winning the job week six week five I was entrenched his right tackle um you know they brought in Alex Boon and Alex was going to be the backup at left tackle and yeah that's what he played in high school but you know there were people that you know a lot of Message Board Guru thought Alex was going to beat me out and I was like there's no chance in the universe and it obviously didn't happen and then uh you 06 I was in trenched you know kind of projected as a preseason all big 10 guy um so I was you know it's just working and getting better and um staying healthy and just trying to to get that next level of technical stuff done and then 7 was different because you know we'd gotten smashed by Florida um we lost Troy and tedin and Gonzo and all those guys so um that was hard you know so so like I was in in the mindset I was like I got to be the captain of the offense and I wasn't formally named the captain yet but I had to act like the captain because we didn't have anybody on the offense that had experience at all so I was the only guy back in the Huddle and you know I'd been starting for four years and I I think I had more starts than everybody on the offense combined at that point so I was like I better talk up and you know in 06 and 05 I didn't have to I didn't say two words like the entire season because I had Troy Smith Troy Smith one of the greatest leaders and maybe the greatest leader in Ohio State history um tough as Nails great vocally uh on the field you backed it up with his play um so I didn't have to say anything you know but then when Troy's gone and you know you got Todd Beckman who Todd Beckman is was a really good quarterback for s07 but he didn't he never played a game so it's hard to get out there and say hey guys you know I'm going to whatever and you've got no career starts so that not a slight on Todd but I mean I when I had no career starts I wasn't talking like later so I kind of had to be like the leader and set the tone for the offense and hey we're we're not going to be as talented or as skilled but we're going to be more physical than we were in 06 and we were we were much more physical and we ran the ball with beanie and you know we we did good like we were an overachieving bunch in ' 07 and when you're a captain like the best the best thing that someone can tell you is that your group overachieved you know because you know a lot of teams you know in Ohio State's history underachieve and that's not a great Mark that you want when you're a captain so to overachieve with a team that was picked to win three to be third in the Big 10 you end up going to the national championship and losing to you know the number one team in the nation LSU um it's not all bad uh was I worried about losing a spot not really um you know I mean Alex was a festar guy coming in but you know you can't you can't worry about that kind of stuff you know Alex was a kid that um you know heralded and he was kind of like the David Sanders of of my era um good player I mean massive player 6'8 way bigger than I was but I I don't I don't fear anybody you know on the field and this is kind of how I was and that's kind of the mentality you have to have because a lot of these guys they get nervous about recruits and depth charts and whatever and it's like if you're scared then you better go buy a dog because I mean if you're scared you ain't going lasted a place like Ohio State because I think about Ohio state is they're trying to bring a five star behind you every single year and they hope that he beats you out because then they get they can get a little bit younger you know then they get a little bit more security so I mean that's just the name of the game you know I don't care about death charts I don't care about who they're bringing in who they're bringing in in the portal like you got to go win the spot and that's just kind of it's kind of the mentality you got to have at a place like go say because if you don't have that mentality you you'll get eaten alive at aive State like I said you better go go elsewhere because it ain't it ain't uh it ain't for you um when will Ryan Day announce to QB I mean it's will Howard like there's no competition but I'm sure that he'll he won't announce it until the you know the you know the first drive of the akan game I'm sure just to keep us all suspense and there's literally no Su suspense at all uh lastly Styles or Hicks I think CJ Hicks will start um I think Sunny overtakes him uh in the season I think Sunny's got more upside um you know but Sunny's got to figure out he's never played linebacker before I mean that's a big you he's played Safety and um the back end and running back and he's never played linebacker and that's something that nobody really talks about CJ's been playing linebacker through high school and you know whatever so he's got you know six seven years of playing linebacker Sunny's never played linebacker and again nobody says anything about that but that's a big transition because everything happens way faster when it's that close to you when you're back at safety man you got a lot of time you're up at linebacker man those guards are are coming to double team for you you know you got Center coming for you I mean it's it's a whole different ball of wax and I think Sunny's got to get used to that but Sunny physically is is dominant of the kids we've had in the last 10 years so if that light bulb comes on it'll be scary and again that's why I think a kid like him has to be like he has to be a priority Blitzer he has to be a guy hey we let's get Sunny going let's have him Blitz let's have him go kill the quarterback go kill the running back run run through him to the quarterback and let's get him excited and Juiced up and you know let's get him going you same with CJ I mean CJ's going to build confidence and I think that something that can Inspire confidence is when you're kind of the like the key the key man on a blitz the guy that has to get home to the cuz you got to understand like when you Blitz it's not all all the guys are designed to get to the quarterback there's a guy that's designed to occupy the the the running back who's in pass protection there's a guy that's designed to occupy this the offensive line um and then there's a guy that's designed to get home and get free so make sunny and CJ that guy because they're fast as can be and and they're going to um do damage once they get there so that's a great question though I appreciate you Dave um thank you for being Ultra member and I love the Thanos thing that's excellent all right I love this Jimmy uh Jim duel one of the greatest human beings in the world I'm glad that your knee is feeling better when he says gibber that is Alex Gibbs Alex Gibbs in my mind is the greatest offensive line coach who's ever lived uh if you want to watch something great watch his uh Clinic videos on YouTube where he was the guy that ran the Denver Broncos offense when they uh when they had Terrell Davis and all those they'd always have some random running back run for 1500 yards and uh be a ER because of that's how good his line was so yeah Alex Gibbs was a different type of animal man um scrolling I'm still scrolling through this chat I guys and please bear with me because this is so you guys are awesome and you guys chat like in in a a ton so I'm scrolling and it's like it's like the things moving like so small I appreciate you guys uh uh JoJo 4312 does w Howard play like cren I don't think so I I think W Howard is is a better athlete than Craig was and and I know Craig had some very timely runs versus the Hurricanes but that really wasn't his thing like they weren't you know Jim Tron wasn't designing runs for Craig kenel to get the ball on the edge and that really wasn't a thing back then compared to now um but I I I don't think so I mean now if he plays like Craigs and wins a national championship that'd be great but I think will Howard is a much better player than Craig kenzel and again I'm not this isn't denigrating Craig but and again at the end of the year you can look back but you know will hard's a he's a legit dude he's I think he's bigger I think he's faster but Craig has the big ring so as of now he is the better player um but will Howard in this offense is going to be uh I think he's going to be nasty guys I'm telling you I'm on the will Howard Express and you guys can all laugh at me if I'm wrong but you know you give me will hard and ship Kelly and I'm taking that all day every day and twice or maybe about 10 times on Saturday so I uh appreciate you guys let me keep rolling um you drink it that is a great thing do not f with Lawrence Taylor yes Lawrence Taylor is probably the best defensive player who's ever lived in my opinion I he is an absolute monster a monster of a monster um Sean shro thank you for being Ultra member appreciate you brother uh when you were Kirk when you were playing or coaching did you ever see any coaches or players fight in the locker room yes fights happen all the time I never saw coaches fight I saw Tom Herman and and um Vel get into it which was hilarious because you vel's 6' five and you VES has the longest arms he looks like an orangutang walked around but you know Tom is Tom you know Vel played football at high State Tom played football at rice and I like Tom but I couldn't even imagine the betting OD on if that actually would have went down but that was like a 6 a.m workout and I'll give Tom credit man he had balls I mean he was going after Vel which is like why don't you go after like one of the little secondary coaches or one of the little interns or something like that wouldn't you know the only one that would have been worse is going after Luke you know cuz Luke is the guy that nobody wanted to try in the what he is and I mean cuz Luke was the heavyweight champion of of Ohio so I mean that's that's ballsy I mean Luke is Luke fickle is one of the baddest men that's ever played at Ohio State Bar by far um and I I love Luke to death I hope that he tears it up at Wisconsin and does great stuff and one of the smartest most ethical dudes in the world love him to death so but yeah fickle and uh or Vel and uh and and Tom her going to go at it at a 68 minute and I I would have loved for that to happen because that would have been hilarious um players fight all the time you know I got in fights all the time in practice especially when I was younger I got in a lot of fights as I got older I kind of was kind of over it you know it's kind of like when you're it's a lot like an NHL hockey player trying to make in his career early on and he he's trying to just stay in the league and cause a Ruckus and you know protect his guys and fight and that kind of thing uh but when I got older you know I was just like you know I you know the thing I was always scared of as a football player I'm not scared of that now but as a football player is like if I throw a punch and I break my hand I'll feel like the biggest in history because like without your fingers and your hand you can't block like if you put a club on my hand like it's impossible to pass F you got to grab cloth every play so I was like I would look like such a with a club on and then I'd be ineffective as a player and I just feel like a douchebag so I'm like you know again but you know when guys got in fights we' come running the Lin always come come running um funny story is like when I was with the Chicago Bears we actually had a roll if there was a fight that broke out in practice and you were not running towards the fight like if one of the offensive linemen got to fight or any of the offensive players got to fight um and you weren't running towards the fight in on the film when we watched it it was a $500 fine in the offensive line room and I was like that is the greatest thing I've ever heard of my and I loved it so you can bet man when there was a fight that went down in in Chicago Bears training camp I was flying to that cuz I was not trying to lose 500 bucks over something that stupid cuz like most time when you get in there like you're not really going to fight I mean but um we had some knockdown drag outs man when I was with the Detroit Lions in ' 09 either N9 or 10 minute we had it it was like we got in fights every day it was crazy um Jim Schwarz threw us all off of off of uh the field um and it was it was it was actually epic I loved it so um I'm I'm very much pro- fighting in uh football just cuz like you know I don't need all my linemen to be you know nuns like we need some guys are actually going to go you know tow somebody off and and get after a little bit you know you can have you know the alter boys you know for some of your guys but you need some guys that you want to take in the dark alley and sometimes I don't think we have enough of those and again that's just my opinion but again it is what it is what do I know but you know like I had guys like you know you know Boon was always in it um me and Kuda would get into it m Kuda was like you know he's ungodly strong so it was great um Marcel Frost are getting fights all the time I mean some of those guys uh oh God Andrew Norwell about killed a kid on Scout team I mean it was yeah I I I love that stuff just because I think you need some of that edge I don't think it it needs to all just be like vanilla pudding all the time but that's just my opinion and again I I I I don't want to see it in the locker room I don't want to see if it's if it's once you're in the locker room it's over you know it doesn't matter what's done um you know and there's a line like I I never said anything disrespectful we'd fight um but it never went into the locker room ever um just because it it uh it's just one of those things where I um I don't know on the field is one thing off the field totally different kiss and makeup you're all good uh guys uh bear with me I'm scrolling through these to find these um again I appreciate you guys um you drink it you're fine bro I appreciate you brother as always you have to apologize to me um or Kim Kim's Kim's going to be in a household with me three boys it's just her and a girl dog and we got a boy dog too so she uh she's used to kind of everything uh mow what's up brother I hope you're doing good my friend uh thank you for being Ultra member as always uh Kirk what do you think about Justin fr's recruiting strategy he doesn't offer many linemen and believes in casting an a net it's frust frustrating as a fan well I think it's hard just because you know you have to you know everybody wants David Sanders and they want Josh Petty you want the five star kids but you know you have to balance how many spots you have in the class what's your budget um and uh you know like I mean he really wants to land David Sanders Jr and I mean he's got a huge nil deal on the table for him um we've pulled out every stop known to God and man to get this kid uh so it's it's it's hard and again I've said it a million times and again you guys can say Kirk you you have no idea what you're talking about but I literally used to do this for a living in the recruiting realm um a lot of these big guys don't want to leave home they don't want to go far from Mama I don't know if it's mama boy effect or whatever it is but like you know you look where Bama gets their guys Georgia gets their guys predominantly from within 5 six hours 5 six hour drive predominantly um now there's you can always they got this guy from Texas or this guy from California but predominantly 5 six hour radius so when we're outside of that radius for some of these kids and they go elsewhere it's you know I mean I I I don't know what to tell people like I tell people it's hard to recruit offensive L to Ohio State and again nobody wants to hear that but it's the truth like like skill guys like receivers and you know they're they're out driving their Lamborghinis and they're doing their their thing I mean they're they're all about jet setting and getting out and doing their thing they'll leave in a heartbeat they don't care skill guys they leave they'll come from any place um you'll see kids from Florida go to USC and Ohio State and that's no thing lineman is just it's just different and again I don't I don't know what it is but I mean you can go back and track it go go look at the all the different you know top you know 1,000 or top 100 recruiting list go look at where the tackles end up and go look at where they're from and look at where they go to school easy so you know I mean I think that that's why I laughed again you know I I don't know Greg sidara I've met him like twice in my life but he he brought in a lot of like five star guys from out of state and I was like we've never done that before we didn't do that with Jim Bowman didn't with Ed Warner um so it was kind of an anomaly like you're kind of almost at the mercy of the guys that are in the state of Ohio so like if if you have a Paris Johnson great if you have a Taylor Decker great uh Andrew Norwell Cy Lindley Jack M great all Ohio kids so it's like you know those kids didn't leave and go to Alabama or Georgia you know Jackson Carman who's you know kind of a a weird bird and you know really was was zero loss for the program he was an anomaly and he went to Clemson Andre Walker was a weird kid from Glenville went to USC um so yeah like I mean it's I mean you're going to have some different contrarian type kids and I don't think it's anything different than regular kids like I mean one of my best friend's daughter goes to Clemson uh there's you know there's kids that you know they want to get away from the nests they want to go to a you a school there's kids in Ohio that want to go to Alabama for to be the girls that want to be in a sorority or there's kids that want to go to Texas or the or the Miami Hurricanes whatever for for just school so I I think sometimes kids just want to get out and again I'm not I'm not making excuses for Justin I think he has to get David Sanders Jr but um I think if we if we get him awesome if we don't we we'll survive we've survived for years and I like our line class and in the ER of the transfer portal I love adding the portal guys CU I think Josh Simmons I mean he's playing like a five star uh he was really good last year and I think he's going to have a huge year this year um I think sth M Lockton is like it's like he's like adding a five star you know for one year like he's going to be a really good Center for us he's a really big ad so two of our five starters on the o lineer portal guys so um I'm not really to pull the plug on Justin I know a lot of people are down on Justin especially if we don't get David Sanders I think we're getting David Sanders but um you know I it's it's uh it's tough cuz if you if you C this big wide net and you throw all these offers out a lot of those aren't real um and it can damage your reputation pretty severely if kids try to commit and you say that it's an uncommitted offer so um it's not as easy as you'd lead it to believe in my opinion all right let's see still scrolling Barb what is up my friend I hope you're good thank you for seven months of being a scoop Ultra member appreciate you Kirk have you watched the kickers for this year uh do you have any concerns with the King game uh oh iio appreciate you um yeah like I I think Jaden Felding is he's going to handle it again I mean he was young last year and I think he'll be better this year with a year of experience again like Mike nen in 2001 was terrible I he's awful I mean he could barely I mean him and Jos Josh Houston combined like could barely make an extra point and then you know Mike nent turned into the best kicker in school history in my opinion won the lug gr award was I think a second or third round pick in the draft played in the league for 14 15 years um Josh Houston was a good kicker for us at 05 um so I I don't really have any concerns about the kicking game um because I think that you know I'm I'm hoping that these guys are uh are are on point you know they get rid of Parker Fleming so I think that they've got better Talent evaluating the kickers now so yeah I I think that um jayen fing should do a good job and if he doesn't that's on Ryan day it's on mark panney Cuz if we don't have if we don't go after that kicker from Miami of Ohio I I don't know what we're doing like we let a kid that won the lug gr award who is at Miami of Ohio go to Alabama because we had that much faith in this kid so time will tell again they know this kid better than I do um I've watched him you know I think that he'll take a step uh I think confidence is a huge thing with kickers and he's got the talent um but again I still can't believe we can't get a kid who's got a bigger leg uh than the kids we've had still uh scrolling apologize guys I'm trying to dig through the rest of these I appreciate you guys so much for being on here bear with me because you guys like I said you guys love these chats man these chats are amazing um and they're so fun and I usually read them a little bit afterwards um Caris and Beth love you guys both appreciate you guys uh I just uh thanks for been Al member eight months of membership that is outstanding so thank you so much I just wanted to thank all of the wrenches we appreciate all of you guys um Devin and especially Kim because you're my wife so she get a little bit more love than the other two I love the show in the family is the highlight of my night go buuck uh oh IO appreciate you uh Beth and Caris you guys are the best can't wait to see you guys at the next outing uh yeah kimbo's on here with you know kids around her and dogs around her and she's sequestered up in the bedroom right now so I can get a nice quiet good audio podcast so uh again she's the best I appreciate all that she does um I love it thank you Bob yeah this is great you're four months behind in the Ultra lineup yeah I'm going to put some new badges up for the season too so you get new badges every month you get a new badge so the longer you're here the better your badges get so I'm going to actually upgrade a bunch of the badges this one of my projects I'm working on this weekend so I uh appreciate you need to Market those Barton Jers that's the ni Sean someone that ordered it so um and there's we have a uh a burke carton Jersey out there too so I um like I said I appreciate you guys so much I think it's hilarious uh uh Steely appreciate my man a massive love to all the scoop family yeah I appreciate you I just love you guys being on here AEM Kirk my dude thank you so much I appreciate it this is funny Joseph I appreciate this too Kirk your opinion is valued if you sugarcoated turds it would be obvious I for want to appreciate your accuracy in terms of Val I appreciate that cuz I again I put a lot of time into it and it's not just a him hul like you know I I look forward to doing this and I think you guys can tell in the energy that you know Nevada and I bring because we we go seven nights a week so people think we're psychotic for doing that but we love doing it we love being a part of it with you guys and kicking it with you guys and you know so we we have to bring accurate information it has to be the best in the in the industry Bar None um and the film breakdown stuff I love to do just because I know that you guys you guys love to learn it and I like to um I just like to you know try to explain things in a simple way that's fun and you guys you know get a little bit a little bit smarter learning football while you you're here and you have some fun doing it and you meet great people again like you guys are some of the greatest people ever around um Buck IBA I appreciate you thanks for the de my man preaching Kirk hold holding them to a higher standard yeah I mean you know the standard is the standard and it's like when you're an Ohio State man like I like I said I don't mind it I know like we've got a lot of people that oh you know they're so mean and our fans are they say mean stuff to me I'm like I don't care you know like if I if I'm wrong you guys can let me know I don't care I'll be okay I'm a big boy if I if I if I have some crazy misevaluation or some crazy bad prediction or whatever like I'm fine with that that's why I try to be accurate you know and again when I when I played at Ohio State again I was a part of the worst mass you know one of the worst days and Darkest Days in SPO we lost that Florida game man and it was nasty I'm talking about nasty you guys all remember it I mean it was bad and again I was sitting there I was like you know I don't mind it I mean it sucks it's terrible it's a nightmare it's it's like one of the worst days of my life but you know like I mean we we deserve all of the anger and the fervor and what happened and again like I'm good with it dude I mean I signed up for Ohio State I love Ohio State and I never want that to change ever I don't want any of our fans to ever be like oh it's okay to lose and we'll get him next time like no like that's not it's not what it is you know I mean I mean again it's because when you win that whole thing it's uh it's absolutely uh fantastic uh Googs I got you again appreciate you my friend Kirk why does the program self-promote and recognized in 1970 I have no idea this is a great one um why does the program promote recogniz the 1970 national football foundation's pre- bowl game Natty that's the dumbest thing I've ever seen in my life I mean it's sincerely I have no idea why um but well for those you guys that don't know like in 1970 uh we still celebrate the national championship and there's a banner in the shoe that says 1970 national champions um the National Football Foundation gave that trophy out before the bowl game so you know Ohio state was G national champions basically after they beat Michigan um and then they lost the Rose Bowl so they celebrated a national championship where they lost their bowl game which is literally impossible but we celebrate it I mean if that existed if that existed in my career we would have won a national title in 06 and 07 because we were the number one team in the country in the regular season now we lost to two natties but you know like that's that's why I think that's hilarious I'd have two rings and I mean I couldn't imagine you guys couldn't even imagine me if that would have happened that would have been hilarious but I um I appreciate you Melo I agree with this I think Jordan Hancock is he's probably the most underrated player in America he's I mean the more I watch his film he is really good and playing nickel is really really really hard to do uh but I agree with that that that was a great statement still scrolling digging for your scoop Ultra questions again I appreciate you guys being on here kicking it with me absolutely fantastic um all right Sean Shu when you played at ocu did I pull much or at all uh as an offensive tackle we did some pin pull at Ohio State not a lot it wasn't like a staple um but I did not as a tackle uh we didn't run counter uh back then so uh I did not pull much at all those was our guards our guards pulled like crazy so you know I uh I did not pull um but our guards pulled a lot cuz we ran um our power play constantly I'm sure you guys remember like Adrien Clark pulling and Steve ring and those guys um Ben person TJ Downing a lot but I never I don't I might have pulled once or twice in my career actually I mean it was on um a pin pool play but we we did it wasn't like a core competency for us so it was uh a little bit uh all right I'm just digging guys appreciate you guys Devin is checking out appreciate your brother have a great night um I like this Sean let Lorenzo Sals and mil Graham return tons and kicks I think that'd be excellent that be absolutely outstanding actually I like that Ste later cujo's dad that is hilarious so I appreciate that Coo's dad um Larry Daniels it's a great question can a kicker improve leg strength for distance and work uh with Mickey or is it flexibility and leg speed I think it's a combination of both I think the kickers can improve their leg strength but obviously you know kicker is such a different animal from the rest of football because it's like it's basically like asking kid a golfer improve his his velocity if he gets stronger yeah he can but you just can't compensate it and lose your flexibility I think flexibility is one of the most critical things um one of the most critical things that that there is uh in in football in terms of injury prevention um I think it's uh you it's something that you know you can definitely work at now are you going to add you know 10 yards to your field goal no that's still technique um still flexibility um and a lot of it's just natural ability um so it's kind of a combo platter of all of it but yeah I mean you can always improve a little bit not a ton but a little bit um okay appreciate you guys I'm still digging through these we got a ton of these there you go treasure there you go Torah AEM Hotel California baby told you that's a good reference I know you guys like that all right let me uh me grind through this I'm almost there I'm like three4 of the way folks so if I did not get your question yet I'm digging through these because again I love you guys to death you guys love to chat and it's absolutely awesome so it is uh the greatest thing in the world I get to go through all these um and dig around again Kim's been she's uh helping them but I still got to dig through and uh do this yeah yeah Steely um he was at our event and our event was great and again we had we had a blast at our event um it was at Twin Peaks our next one will be at Buffalo wding so love to have you guys come through uh meet the crew it's a blast we got to get a Keem to an event you stop playing around and get out here cuz I think you'd have a good time dude I think you'd love it um dukie what is up appreciate you brother thank you for being an ultra member you're never late you're always on time appreciate you Andre Andre is there it was awesome uh here there we go okay Kirk how good do you think that the team at North Run game will be I think it's going to take a significant step back because they lost Blake corm who I thought was a good player and they lost five starting offensive linemen so um I think that uh you know and you lose Jim Harbaugh who I think Jim Harbaugh is one of the greatest line coaches line advocates in the history of college football so I think it'll take a significant step set back I know they got Donovan Edwards I know he's on the cover of the game but um I think they take a set back just because you lose five starting offensive lineman that's devastating I don't care I don't care if you're Michigan Alabama Georgia Ohio State the Browns um it's hard to rebuild that chemistry and that Talent um so yeah I think that they're going to be uh significantly significantly worse and again you guys can hold me to that because if they come out and just mle everybody with five new starters then shiron Moore might be the greatest offensive line coach who's ever lived but uh you know shiron mo I think is a very good line coach but he's now the head coach so you got to new guy coaching the line you got five new starters that is a difficult situation I don't care who you are um so yeah I think it's going to take a very uh significant uh step back uh digging through let's see if I can get any more of these again I appreciate you guys being on here tonight kicking it let's see I know you guys can't wait for football I know you guys are just like me as I'm scrolling through this thing cuz football on Saturdays is the greatest thing ever so there's like this void um that's absolutely crazy you know this is funny the picture it was awesome that uh James Lear not shed with Kirk yeah I James is a brother to me um I was so happy that he came back and got into coaching he was a really he was a really good color commentator for the Big 10 Network but he wanted to get into coaching and I I think he'll do fantastic work doing it um yeah James is uh he's a beast now I mean he's he's as good as there is and he he's one of the best teammates him and AJ Hawk are the two best teammates I ever had in terms of they just did everything the right way smart excellent production um just you know Nick Mangold was one of those you just you never had to worry about him on Saturdays set your watch to the fact that they're going to dominate and and play well and really well-liked guys good people um so James getting into coaching I think is is going to be he has no ceiling like I mean I think he could end up being the head coach of deas one day you know in in in 10 15 years whatever it is dukie what is up brother appreciate you my friend what is up Kirk um again I appreciate you being an ultra member of my friend what's up Kirk I'll have to say during a podcast working in media it's funny when fan bases try to discredit me but when my predictions come true I have better sources than they're beat well the Michigan beat is the worst the Michigan beat is the dumbest beat in the history of sports so if it's Michigan yeah I that doesn't surprise me at all they're basically just message board fans that you know got websites and became media folks but you know the the media as a whole talent wise is is way down from where it was 15 years ago I it's crazy when I I look at the guys that used to cover Ohio State versus now it's it's almost a joke um but yeah I I I think that um you know you keep doing your thing Andre again like you know if you're sourced up dude they can't deny when you're right you know like when we were breaking all the Michigan news and breaking who's going to be the starter and Breaking All the Ohio State stuff we break light just chalk it up you know I mean cuz the thing I know is that people lie but numbers don't so just keep cranking dude I'm telling you you do a great job your podcast is excellent and uh you know like I said it's it's um it's a tough it's a tough gig but if you love it and you're good at it and you're sourced up hey I mean you know it's it's it's as fun of a gig as you could ever have poo beer 12 thank you uh for being an ultra member another Ultra chat uh again po beard has been an ultra member so if you're an Ultra remember you get to ask questions tonight so I appreciate you I think we can all tell that David Sanders is very good but when you watch the film uh what are the things that he play excuse me what are things and how he plays that you're looking for to tell that he's Elite well the number one thing isn't is again just like in anything else in life I can show you better than I can tell you uh so let's get him dialed up real quick uh David Sanders his movement skills are extraordinary I mean it's it's something it's it's a rare thing when you see a guy that this big that can run very tall angular um you hear he's on a tunnel screen so there he is right there on your screen take your question down Pooh beard is little too big but you know the finish here is obviously incredible um you he's not he's blocking a guy who's obviously you know Corner he's doing something that he should do to a guy who's you know a little DB um but the Finish is great um just watching how he moves mechanically is great um that's why he's the number one tackle maybe the best player in the country um I think it's the size of movement the fact that he finishes this is not great football um but he's a guy that you know if you look at him he could gain probably 30 pounds and still be you know twitched up and shredded and and a guy that would be an easy first round pick now he's got to go somewhere who wants to develop him like again if I'm that kid if if if his parents called me and say Kirk why should he go to high he said Mickey Mora period Point Blank he's the best strength coach in the game best one that's ever lived at Ohio State he'll develop that kid he'll make him strong um you know the thing you can and again you guys can say I don't know what I'm talking about but look at how few of our offensive linemen Miss games um you know and a lot of it's because they're tough as nails but it's also because they're trained well uh they're trained um the the depths of their lifts uh the stuff that he has them do like those guys they don't miss many games so uh he trains durable tough lineman um the kids got no ceiling uh I I just I love watching his tapes I'm just going to let that run um but yeah he is uh he's a monster man and and again I I I just I love watching the speed The Edge and you know I like the Finish like not every kid at his age is a finisher uh but he likes sar's kids which I like I mean you know because again when you're playing guys that you're way better than you should be putting him on the ground and pancaking him and here he's going to the second level putting a guy on the ground again um so I love the finishes I think that that's a one of the best parts about his game but his athleticism is just exceptional rare um and absolutely fantastic so like I said I I love watching uh everything that he can do um hardest D lineman I ever went against uh arasmus James from Wisconsin and I went against Mario Williams who went first overall on the draft uh arasmus was the best guy I went against in ' 04 now I was younger I was it was a little different um Tom bahali was really good he was a first-rounder all the guys that were hard that went against were first rounders you know Tyson Jackson in my last fav game he was third overall in the draft um but yeah it's uh you know I think rasos James from Wisconsin now he got his knee blown out in a wicked terrible high low that Purdue did but he uh he's a guy that um when I played him in the middle of 04 he was the best defensive lineman in the country probably the best defensive player in the country he would have won every award um but Purdue High load him and it was one of the dirtiest plays I've ever seen in football and he was never the same like he the rest of the season came back for their bowl game versus Georgia and he looked slow as could be like it looked like that thing like his knee was like gone so it was a pretty interesting deal cuz I thought it was it was exceptionally dirty I hated that again I don't know the guy at all but he was he was that dude when I was going against him I he was you can barely get a finger on him cuz he's so fast I mean he he was super twitched up super quick um it was absolutely fantastic so uh I think think I knocked these out I'm looking to see if there's any other Ultra chats if you guys have any other Ultra chats oh Sean Rollins what's up brother got a um a super chat from Sean Rollins appreciate you my friend uh this is great I love this um thank you there something is different that I love about what we do shout out to Matt going out of his way to meate members of the chat
