what's going on YouTube this is sg1 sports and we are previewing each team's schedule and giving you a very early projected record Arizona is up next uh before we get to the 2024 schedule let's look back at 2023 of course they played Mississippi State in the nonconference lost that game in overtime uh also lost to Washington and USC but this was a team that was really hot down the stretch winning their final six games of the regular season and now you have the coaching change and you know how good is Arizona going to be I think offensively they're still going to be really good some question marks maybe on defense but let's look at this 2024 schedule and let's break it down first with the non-conference of course now they are in the Big 12 they'll play New Mexico Northern Arizona and Kansas State at Kansas State but that is not a conference game so this game was scheduled before the the changes in the in the conferences and it's still going to be played but it's not going to count towards the standings so we saw that with I think it was B in Utah as well so there will be some some funky things in the Big 12 this year but yes Arizona Kansas state will not count towards the Big 12 standings uh the home schedule here again New Mexico Northern Arizona they play Texas Tech Colorado West Virginia Houston and Arizona State uh that means they'll play five home games in the Big 12 and four Road games but if you count Kansas State they'll actually play five home and five away um and you know these are all winnable games you look at their their schedule at home they have a chance to win all these games at home so that that works out pretty well you look at the road schedule again there's Kansas State it's going to be tough with Utah on the road BYU on the road UCF and TCU as well none of those games will be easy wins and uh again that's a pretty tough road schedule for a team like Arizona so they'll start week one with on August 31st they'll play New Mexico and then September 7th they'll play Northern Arizona so you like that start to the season you like having a couple of easier games uh especially the new coaching staff everybody kind of getting things figured out that that I think is really good for their schedule and then Kansas State on the road September 14th again that will not be a conference game they get a bye-week after that so not back-to-back weeks with road games because there is a bye in between but they'll play Utah on the road September 28th that will be their first actual Big 12 Conference game against a former Pack 12 team of course Texas te will play be next at home on October 5th then they go on the road on the road to play BYU on October 12th after that is Colorado on October 19th and then West Virginia on the 26th then they'll get into the month of November with a road game against UCF they will play Houston on the 16th but a bye-week before that game so a byee in between UCF and Houston and then they'll play TCU on the 23rd on the road and closing out with Arizona State on November 30th I do like the way the I don't know if every team has has been done this way I feel like they have from what I've seen so far but they do play all of the former big or Pack 12 teams so they'll play Utah Colorado and Arizona State I think that's how it should be I think those teams should play every year just to kind of keep those I I don't know if you'd say rivalries but keep those matchups going every year and again I don't know what the plan is in the future but I would I would go that route if I was the big 12 but anyways you look at the schedule here and again it's not that tough there are no real tough stretches uh I mean going from Texas Tech all the way down to UCF those will all be games that are somewhat difficult um and again there's a bwe between Kansas State and Utah if those games were back-to-back weeks that would be a really tough back toback there but overall again I think this schedule sets up pretty nicely for Arizona uh I think I think it it it's going to give him a shot in the Big 12 u in a conference that I think is going to be wide open so let's get to the projections first let's get to last year's projections they were 9 and three in the regular season our projection had him at 5- seven I picked them to go six and six Athlon picks picked them to go six and six and the over under was at 4 and 1/2 that was really low obviously they blew that away I thought this team was going to be pretty good I think the reason I missed so badly on them is because the rest of the conference was not as good as maybe I expected it to be uh again this was an Arizona team that I thought would be pretty good and I can't remember what all I pick I think I did have them getting an upset or two this past season but uh anyways 9 and3 had a really good season um and then we look to 2024 so this is the scale that we use under 20 over 80 games where I think uh you can almost count it as a guaranteed win or loss uh 20 to 29 71 to 80 games where I think the spread will be double digits 10 to 16 maybe in that range 30 to 39 61 to 70 games where I think the spread will be about a touchdown 6 789 points and then your 50/50 games will stay in the white between 40 and 60% games where I think spread will be three or four points uh or maybe less than that so easy wins for Arizona I think you got a couple of those New Mexico Northern Arizona and again that's how they start their season should not have any problems with either of those teams they should be able to roll in both of those matchups and then of course it does get tougher we go to the games where I think they'll be favored by about a touchdown I think we got Texas Tech BYU on the road Colorado Houston and Arizona State BYU the only Road game in this slate of games but I think they will be favored in all these matchups you know Texas Tech's a team that kind of wait and see how good they are Colorado don't know really how good they're going to be uh I feel a little bit I feel like I know a little bit more about BYU Houston and Arizona State in terms of uh them being a a tier below Arizona at least that's how it seems right now so five games where they should be favored but not by a ton enough again to where I think this rad could be about a touchdown and then that's going to leave Kansas State and Utah both on the road West West Virginia and then UCF and TCU both on the road and these are your 50-50 games these are the games that will determine the type of season Arizona is going to have uh these are games that could really go either way it's never good when four of your five 5050 games are on the road that that does not bode well because a lot of times these 50/50 games are going to go to the home team and so that could be four losses right there even if they're able to beat West Virginia and then you slip up and lose another one of those games in the purple and all of a sudden you're seven and five so yeah it's um it's a it's not a horrible schedule by any means but there are still a lot of games that could get them you know they don't play Oklahoma State I think that's a positive they do play Kansas State they do play Utah again Kansas state is not a conference game um but you know they don't play Kansas so you're talking about Kansas and Oklahoma state two teams that are uh top 25 teams for most people so you you avoid those so that's that's pretty good um you'd like to maybe play Cincinnati they might be the worst team team again in the Big 12 but overall it's it's a pretty fair schedule for Arizona and you get to the projection here again we're we have a formula that we use so the games in the white are counted at 50% games in the purple at 65% and the games in the green are counted just as wins and when you average all that out you get a projection of eight and four so a pretty decent projection there you know if they were to go three and two in the 50/50 games and that would mean that they lose a couple of those games in the purple or if they go two and three in the 50/50 games they might lose one game in the purple you know a lot of different ways obviously you could get to that record but I think that's a pretty fair uh projection I think you're going to see several teams right around that projection at the top of the Big 12 we've already done Utah we've already done Oklahoma State those teams were both eight and four and so I think ACC and Big 12 are both going to have a lot of teams projected to go about 8 and4 and it's just going to be about the teams that can win some close games and and push that record up to 9 and three or 10-2 and those will be the teams that have a chance to win or get to the conference Championship game and so for Arizona I think that's what they'll have to do they'll have to win some close games on the road um in these 50-50 games and if they can do that then I think they could put them in in a in a position to get to that big 12 championship and who knows maybe get to the college football playoff because if you win the Big 12 you're going to be in the college football playoff with the new formula so eight and four is our projection do you agree do you disagree give me your thoughts on Arizona down in the comments below
