today in our top story A McLean County Sheriff's Department Corporal was injured during a pursuit from McLean County into Burleigh early this morning. According to the Highway Patrol, the deputy was driving south on Highway 83, just north of Wilton when a 20-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Cobalt refused to pass the marked squad car, so the Corporal pulled over to the shoulder. The Colbalt Driver then took off at high speeds into Burleigh. The deputy pursued the driver for about 10 miles when he deployed his Grappler Police Bumper to stop the Cobalt. The Grappler wrapped the rear tire, but both vehicles then lost control and entered the ditch. The squad car overturned onto the roof in the ditch and the Cobalt driver fled on foot. He was captured shortly after without any injuries. The McLean County Deputy was brought to Sanford Hospital with minor injuries. The 20-year-old had several outstanding warrants, he is allegedly being charged with fleeing a police officer, possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia, and Driving under Suspension. The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
