US Capitol Arrest Update: Richard Cook SENTENCED

Matthew blon was arrested Patrick Montgomery was in court Jonathan manaa will stay in federal custody no I don't take responsibility at [Music] all everyone welcome to the show so 38-year-old Florida man Richard cook followed the mob to the capital after Donald Trump's speech at the ellipse and cook knew he wasn't welcome at the capital because he admitted later that the police were using chemicals and they were using flashbang grenades to try to disperse the crowd he pressed on though he was seen chanting and yelling along with the mob on the stage that have been set up for Joe Biden's inauguration and then a while later cook was seen rushing into the Lower West Terrace tunnel and he participated in one of those Collective heho pushes um so cook was pushed out of the tunnel initially he ran back in 2 minutes later and this time he was literally seen gritting his teeth and pushing against the person in front of him with all of his strength now eventually he was forced out of the tunnel again and cook was seen standing just several feet away from officer Michael fenon when he was being tasered and beaten and during phone's assault cook was seen on video he was chanting with the mob for the police to stand down then cook moved back to the tunnel entrance and he stood cheering for an hour and a half while other people were attacking the police um so they were using all kinds of weapons he's standing there cheering he left the capitol ground sometime after that and he agreed to a voluntary information uh interview with the FBI prior to his arrest but the investigators say that cook blamed the police for the violence on January 6th and he showed absolutely no remorse for his actions so cook was arrested on March 9th of 2023 and he was charged with civil disorder entering restricted grounds disorderly conduct on restricted grounds two counts of physical violence and impeding passage on Capital grounds cook refused a plea deal he opted for a jury trial huge mistake and the government pointed out that cook made many false statements during his testimony um this one was pretty funny cook tried to convince the jury that he was forced into the tunnel cook said there was this man who was glaring at him with quotee unquote devil eyes and he had a quote death grip on Cook's neck the prosecutor was able to completely disprove all of his lies with video evidence and they showed the jury a video of Cook's interaction with this so-called devil eyed man they wrote in their sentencing memo quote the video footage showed that the man with devil eyes had touched Cook's shoulder for No More Than 3 seconds as he waved numerous riers into the tunnel so in May of 2024 the jury found cook guilty on all counts and he was looking at a combined 9 years in prison 16 years of Probation and over $550,000 in fines the prosecutor though requested only two years in prison three years of Probation and 2,000 in restitution um US District Judge Reggie Walton presided over Cook's case and in the end he sentenced cook to 18 months in prison three years of Probation and 2000 and restitution I'm a little surprised by this that he didn't get the full two years Walton is one of the tougher January 6 judges and he often will give the prosecutor what they ask for um I think the sentence is decent for someone who didn't injure an officer if this had been any other most any other judge he would have gotten less so it it was pretty tough comparatively um I just believe you know repeatedly lying under oath um you know refusing a plea deal wasting the Court's time that should earn you more time that that should have given him the full two years but anyway again like I said if it had been any other judge probably would have maybe gotten six months at the most so let's count our blessings let's look at the Silver Lining all right thank you all so much for watching and listening please like please share and subscribe please donate if you can love you all take care talk with you soon [Music]
