[Music] oh [Music] shoot welcome in ladies and gentlemen to NBR or as we like to call it around here nothing but ran the show where I find topics that I'm oddly passionate about and I pontificate upon them these are not hot takes but rather takes that I'm hot [Music] about like you really like [Music] that let's shut up and grass some tape what is up ladies and gentlemen welcome into the film guy Network on a terrific Monday evening boys can you smell it I almost I almost wrote a a poem this morning about the things that I love about football it really wouldn't have been a poem it would have just been a bullet list buddy I I I'm giddy I'm like I can almost smell the fresh cut grass it's a very unique football grass you know I'm talking about it's not the grass like you mow your grass in the backyard it don't smell like a fresh cut football field no I am itching cuz ladies and gentlemen we have football coming to pod's pad's going to be popping by the end of the week all right not only here in Athens not only across the state of Georgia in high school football but across the country because we are officially 1 month away from week one okay week zero was last week so just a couple people got a little action across the country of real life football but come the end of the week almost every SEC school will be out here getting after it and we will no longer be in the quote unquote off season we will officially be here we are absolutely here we have made it we have walked through as I call it the Oasis of the off season all right and now we are here for college football um we do indeed have a lot show for you guys but another Georgia football player got arrested or in trouble I should say uh this past weekend so I have to open Today's Show there uh it's kind of the rule a bulldog player gets arrested that equals a Brooks Austin opening on the film guy Network about said topic um if this were an isolated incident um this would be just a personal matter it would it wouldn't really require any type of comment or any type of addressment or any type of addressing I should say here on the network um it would just be another football player and in some deep [ __ ] and some hot water um but it's not an isolated in incident it's not an isolated incident with Georgia and the law there in Athens Clark County nor is it an isolated incident with the individual rra Thomas and this particular uh you know let's call her victim's the wrong word this other party we'll call it another party this not an isolated incident with rra Thomas and this other party uh rra was arrested this past weekend uh for cruelty to a child and Battery uh it is not the first time he had a violent runin as I mentioned uh nor the first time with this uh party involved uh he was arrested for family endangerment and false imprisonment back in January of 2023 he got off on the first charge it was dismissed and he uh obviously remained involved with this party uh and now this um my question as I can feel the nerves around this because it's a very sensitive uh topic and very uh serious matter that's going on right now with rat Thomas and this individual and a child is involved um as the Chargers State um I I don't know I don't know what to do if you're the head football coach of the football program I don't know how you avoid again this incident if this were just isolated again we would come out here and we wouldn't even talk about it really CU I don't it's a it's a private matter with something that happened to do or happened outside of the football building and has nothing really to do with football it just happens to deal or happens to be this individual goes to the University of Georgia and Georgia has been in the news quite a bit as of late with regards to the law um I don't know what the answer to the what what should the coach have done here I saw a bunch of hot take articles about this is another you know blemish on the on the record of Kirby Smart I don't know what Kirby does as the head football coach to avoid any type of incidents like this other than have a complete Zero Tolerance policy and had it had he had a complete zero to policy in January 2023 maybe Raod Thomas is suspended indefinitely then but we don't know public what actually happened in that first incident in January maybe that was just a loud argument this one sounds like it has escalated into something that is very very serious worth uh you know suspending him indefinitely without any uh you know answer as to what is actually going to happen in court they just didn't even wait for that they said no he's gone he's not going to be a part of this football team at all until this is resolved or he has proven innocent of this we are just going to you know remove ourselves from the issue I I don't understand the the repercussion or the backlash towards Kirby about this one because again this is an isolated incident but it's not you know what I'm saying um the rest of the stuff is the traffic violations and all that good stuff um not good stuff you get what I'm saying I I don't have that much of an in-depth answer about the ra R stuff I don't have any in-depth comments about the raw R stuff however I was thinking about this today and I I I did my own research I I wanted to find hey my thought process upon going into the research Gathering process was this everyone wants to blame money about hey money gets involved into college football and now all these kids are rich and now they're making really really bad decisions and I always thought man like that's kind of a goofy it's kind of a goofy one to just like ah give money to young people they're going to do stupid [ __ ] it kind of makes made sense to me but it really wasn't a a a verifiable reason to blame things like this on or blame any of the things going on around college football particularly in Athens around give kids money they still need to make good decisions that was my thought process however I go back 10 years okay when nil wasn't even on the the landscape of of of topic discussions right 10 years ago we had we had no future or no ideals about paying college kids particularly the type of money that we pay them now so I go back to an article in 2015 just curious hey were were college football players getting arrested at a high rate back then versus you know maybe the NFL arrest records and the the NBA arrest records so here's the numbers that I found today per a study in 200 15 now these are overall percentages of athletes arrested in the league or in that P specific sport these are not uh altered or Twisted by the number of players in the league for for example NCAA college football players the number of those is drastically higher than that of the NFL these are specific percentages in those specific leagues okay I want to get that out front before I give you these data points in the NBA 3.75% this is in 2015 3 . 75% of the total numbers in or total number of players in the NBA had been arrested at some point 2.25% of athletes in the NFL had been arrested at some point you go to college in 2015 okay the NBA number was 3.75 the college basketball number is 4% the NFL number was 2.25% in 2015 the Collegiate football number was 45% what I am telling you years ago data showed us you give us you give an extraordinary amount of money to athletes their their chances of being in trouble drastically increase from less than 1% to over 3% in some cases to over 2% in some cases of football players so long story short yes we can kind of attribute some of this to hey you have given really really young people and really really immature people a lot of money also we need point to the fact that this is uh seemingly an isolated incident in Athens and in Georgia because I don't hear of these types of increases in in inciden is at other universities it seems to be here in Athens um so that still needs to be addressed however it also needs to be pointed out that clearly money has played a role in some of these decision-making processes welcome in yeah I I I think it just you keep I keep seeing these questions of like Kirby Smart needs to do something something needs to change about the program but the the continued question I ask and and I know we have asked this as well as I just don't know what you could do about this and I don't know what you could continue to change because efforts have been made whether people want to acknowledge them or not I think efforts have been made but clearly I don't know it's just it it just continues to be an issue you look like you're in deep thought there Cur it's it's never something you want to I don't even want to say make excuses for make reasons for at all but it's also you have to wonder how much of our situations like these put in a different light or put more attention to because of the driving incidence have occurred Oh you mean like because this is again like I said a nonisolated incidence yes that this just compounds the problem corre yeah these are exponential reports at this point like you've had situations like this before I believe Jeremiah Hollman was a similar reason for why he was dismissed from the team so it's not like this has never happened and Georgia hasn't dealt with things like this before but because you have again the the number 24s hanging over the the program's head now of the the arrests that or the violations that have been made traffic related this now compounds with it it goes into oh my gosh does Georgia have a culture issue to your outside narrative is they believe it's yes I mean we we see the program every day we're probably more in touch with it than most people we understand that there are certain things that you just can't control in here but when the outside narrative is they don't have control as what's going on and then stuff like this happens it's not helpful some of my show notes just got changed because Anquan Fagan has just committed to the University of Auburn or excuse me Auburn University oo um as the number nine player in the state of Alabama uh committing to Auburn over Alabama and some other schools so we'll talk about that here in just a second um but yeah the the overall message here uh don't know what's left for Kirby Smart to do uh it sounds like as we mentioned about a week ago this is going to have to be a player-led movement of hey we have got to be better we have got to got to got to be better uh welcome in we got a great show for you tonight we're going to be talking about the national title contenders those with the most holes and those that seem to be at least on paper appear to be Flawless uh heading into this year ages in college football are going a little bit nuts they're getting a little bit wild we're going to talk a little bit about that tonight I've got an I Told You So segment that I'm going to lead the show off with because every once in a while your boy hits the nail on the head it's a little bit more than every once in a while it seems like it's it's a thing um but I like to tell you when I told you so especially when I'm extremely right as we were recently uh tennesses slap cooking on the recruiting Trail we're going to talk about that tonight does the Big 12 ever have a shot at winning another National Title I believe Kirby added this to the show notes tonight curious as to know why I definitely have my opinion as to why not U and then we're going to play a little game of One Crazy prediction we are nearing the start of college football season we felt it necessary to give you one of these crazy predictions every single week in the leadup to college football to see if any of these are going to hit last year's craziest prediction that hit and I wasn't even being faci or wasn't even trying to be hot taky guy I 100% believed it was going to happen and It ultimately did Carson Beck would lead the nation in third down completion percentage just drilled it last year we're going to see if we can hit another one of those types of like three quarter length shots um from long range um no ad reads tonight for you guys because uh though we spent a good solid year with the folks over there at prize picks um they're moving over we got a different set of uh Partners joining us at the end of this week we're super excited to uh bring those announcements to you guys I want to preface it with saying come Thursday I need you ready I need you ready to throw the full support of this machine and this bandwagon behind our two new sponsors that we're going to announce and start rolling out as the week um and as the season nears closer so make sure you're paying attention to that and make sure you're showing support to those who support us also hitting that Thumbs Up Button like subscribe rate review all the above however wherever you support this channel make sure you're getting after it uh if you miss any portion of tonight's broadcast it will be made readily available over on our wherever you catch your podcast I should say however wherever you catch your podcast we are readily available all right um where do you guys want to start do you want to start with I Told You So CU that's where my notes wanted to start if that's where you want go tell us oh I love I told us so I TOA so um Hugh freeze has uh now gotten three or two commitments um from position players three if you include um you know Specialists which are cool I guess um three commitment if you include the specialist and two additional commitments from former Alabama commits so he has flipped two Alabama commits and landed three more uh in the last calendar week uh a few weeks ago I came on this network and I told you that kayin dor is battling something in the state of Alabama that Nick sain never really had to not even never really had to never had to and that's a competent recruiter at alurn Nick Sabin coached through four coaches at Auburn uh Tommy tuberville's last two years one was a winning season one was not uh were the first two years there with Nick sa run in Alabama then he got the Jen Che Jen excuse me Jean chisik years out there at Auburn which just pretty much culminate with Cam Newton and then nobody which rolled into the Gus Maan years of recruiting at Auburn which was a non recruiting Festival under Gus maon they pretty much hovered anywhere from 12 to 20 on the annual recruiting rankings all right and then there's the Brian harson years uh which you guys know was about a big of a joke as it could possibly be especially on the recruiting Trail and then he had one year of recruiting against uh our man hu frees in which he lost four out of the 10 top 10 battles in the state of Alabama okay he signed three of the top 10 players Auburn signed four so in the one year Nick Sabin actually had to recruit against somebody that was worth a [ __ ] on the recruiting Trail he actually lost the state and right now kin dor is getting his eyes boxed in right now by Hugh fze all right hu freeze is doggy walking the state of Alabama all right players number excuse me players ranked number three four 5 7 8 n and 10 are Auburn commits right now number two Jared Smith is predicted to land at alurn all right so it ain't even close right now they're going to sign nine out of the top 10 players or yeah excuse me eight out of the top 10 players the other two in the top 10 in the state of Alabama Naim offord uh and our guy Zion Grady are going to Ohio State all right right so Auburn is doing their their D or damn uh best in the state of Alabama and here that's bad news for Alabama but here's the good news for Alabama kayin dore's got the number two ranked class in the country and he's getting walked in his own backyard so it's kind of this interesting Dynamic going on right now boys where it appears to me that if all things go like it seems they're going to go for Auburn this year they're going to land a top five class basically doing it all in the house or the state of Alabama and then Alabama's going to sign a top five class signing everything nationally this is I would say not great for the rest of the SEC particularly if these two teams are going to recruit at the top five level um you you you got some dudes to battle out there with those two programs yeah I think I touched on this a little bit last week but I think the state of Alabama is such a unique situation because I think Alabama is really the only state where you get two big time programs going head-to-head on the trail really and like big two like Texas is the only other state that I could really make an argument they got three yeah because Oklahoma Gets In the Mix and they're not in state but they might as well be exactly and I would say that it really doesn't even feel like this though if this continues to be the trend of Hugh freze and kayin debor battling out on the trail so I think it's very unique that one they're taking kind of different approaches kayin deor recruiting nationally taking some guys outside of the state Hugh free tapping into the state so I think I hope this continues because I think it provide a good case study over the next few years of well who's winning they're both on the trail but whose method is winning best on the football field I mean dor has got five five or three five stars excuse me from three different states he's got five stars from Texas Mississippi and California I think it's four from three different states I think he's got two five stars from Texas wow I think the the worst part about this for the rest of the SEC is it's it's a sustainable model there's always going to be good talent and the state of Alabama for Auburn to pick from going on the assumption that Alabama continues to follow this model hu freze continues to follow the other the same there's always going to be talent in Alabama there's always going to be Talent nationally and if kayin deor can tap into that pipeline nationally and H freeze can dominate the state of Alabama you have a massive problem to where both these programs have an ability to recruit for a long time do you think people fail to realize that or or fail to remember or at least fail to credit Hugh for what he did at Old Miss on the recruiting Trail because I tweeted about it today I feel like people forget that Hugh FES was out here stealing recruits from Alabama at Old Miss and granted he did so with some backlash from the in of BL but now we know that like there are no Governors there are no rules you can do whatever you want and by the way he's doing that now at Auburn Which is far better of a recruiting pool than Old Miss and oh by the way he's got the Yellowwood money which runs deep which runs really really deep so and I I love that Hugh has approached this as as we we will go when it's time to go you know what I mean we're not going to be rushed to go out and and get heavily involved in the transfer portal at quarterback this year despite the fact that we obviously need a better quarterback and our quarterback s situation is not great we're going to hold off cuz we're not ready we're going to wait until the next year instead of just constantly pushing the chips in every single calendar uh or every single cycle I should say rather so I I like what they've got going on I like the idea that I walked into the Omni hotel room at 12 or hotel lobby at 12:30 the night before Hugh F was supposed to speak to the media and he was already humming up and chumming up the media in the hotel lobby I like that I don't I don't know if that's always like I don't know if I always would have liked that but I you know the idea that he he seems to be approaching this as I've got to hit all of the bases at the right time uh as opposed to just you know trying to hit home runs constantly and I think that what he did at Miss is just push to the Wayside because there was um just these allegations and like he don't counted cuz he cheated yeah exactly and I think that since we're kind of pretty detached from that time period of when that was people kind of forget of what was going on the happenings and also like what the new college football era is right now and so I think it was oh Hugh free is coming in he's not going to be a recruit because he's a phony and we know that because the only way he got recruits is because he cheated well now I mean the door is open for him he can have the pck of the litter and he's also a really good recruiter as well chat's talking about is not going to have a top five class and laughing at it they're seventh right now prior to the addition of Anquan fagans that just hit about 15 minutes ago and they got a good chance to land five star Jared Smith so where do you see them going because I see them going up I don't see them going down or at least holding where they're at I know there's a bunch of five stars left out there I know Tennessee's got a five star or uh top five ranked class and they're in the mix for guys like David Sanders they're probably not going to land Jamie French but they're in the mix for other five stars but where where do you see T Auburn class going cuz it ain't going to freaking Plum it plus if they don't land a top five class it'll be a top 10 class and when's the last time Auburn had one of those it's been a minute like you're seeing massive improvements on the recruiting end at Auburn no matter where they end up this year I mean they've they've basically solidified themselves as Landing a top 10 class I think and the point remains you've you've got a problem if you're Alabama you got a problem because there's competency at little brother's program and that's not happened in 20 years on the recruiting Trail that that's the problem the point remains nonetheless um despite whether wherever Auburn lands alurn landed with 10 of the top 11 players in the state or nine of the top 11 players in the state and you didn't get any of those that that that's important to notice I think it's also important to bring up that Auburn was a batted ball away from everybody looking at their season last year completely different I mean in the iron ball they were literally a batted ball away from beating Alabama probably keeping them out of the college football playoff and then I mean that you in the season by winning the Iron Bowl your first year Hugh freeze you had Georgia on the ropes as well at Jordan hair I mean that season would have looked completely different just by beating Alabama I mean you had them on the ropes till the very end should have won that football game so I think that people would be looking at them completely differently espe and giving them a lot more respect adding on what they're doing on the recruiting show right now I mean [ __ ] they were uh God dang phone's going crazy they were a uh a fourth quarter comeback away from beating Alabama and Georgia this year yeah yeah and the I personally I think the only reason they really were in that game as competitively as they were against Georgia was because of Hugh F's offensive game planning MH the the quarterback run design that they had in that football game was phenomenal probably the best run package that was developed all year last year against Georgia yeah yes um and it was something that was out of nowhere as well I think that was like game six that game was like in the middle of the year last year may early like fourth game first true Road game correct and they had like three or four games on tape and pton Thorne hadn't had any design runs they did all of it with Robbie Ashford and then all of a sudden in that football game they they had three or four designed runs for pton Thorne and they all hit like nobody's business so I I think he's not only a really really good recruiter I think he's obviously a relatively good football coach as well so like I I think it's it's a different challenge that again I don't think Auburn's ever presented to Alabama Gus maon battled in football games mhm I mean he had a what I think he was seven and5 against Nick Sabin or excuse me five- seven against Nick Savin I don't think they played that many times I think it was like two and four all right two and four nonetheless he was he he was closer to 500 or better than any other coach that has gone up against Nick Savin um but he did so through schematics and trickeration he did not do so through du to uh uh acclim or uh accumulation right this hu cat is out here recruiting dudes and has been uh pretty much since he started uh the the the game of recruiting do you guys know how Hugh freze got his start yes we talked about this I think uh if you started telling the story I might remember it h frees was the offensive coordinator for Michael or yep uh oh yeah I do remember and got a graduate assistant job with Old Miss and then the rest of the story is written so there you go there you go um shout out to getting connected to a five star you know what I mean just if you want a college job and there's a five star near you just go hop in the pocket of that joker cuz you might end up on a Collegiate staff someday um all right let's go on to this next one National Title contenders with some holes all right so here's how we did this we went to our favorite gambling site that shall be uh left nameless until maybe down the road went to our favorite site and we found the national title odds now we cut these odds off when there was an obvious drop off meaning like Vegas doesn't think you have a chance so we're not going to uh we're going to agree rather with Vegas on this so here are the teams Georgia at plus 310 Ohio State at plus 375 Oregon at plus 750 Texas at plus 800 Bama at plus 1200 Old Miss at plus 1500 then the the odds really start to increase almost double Notre Dame at plus 2400 Florida State Michigan yada yada y on down the list so what I'm telling you is Las Vegas and the the the betting uh books think there are six national title real true contenders based on the odds George Ohio State Oregon Texas Bama and Old Miss so what we are going to do gentlemen is look at these six teams and I want you to tell me which one of these teams first of all shows no flaws meaning looking at them on paper there are very very qu few questions if any at all and then after that I want to go through the flaws of the teams that have them okay make sense yeah all right who wants to go first do we all want to agree on the flaw a Flawless team I think the two teams that you so you have two teams for the Flawless category yes okay I have one and I will tell you why once we announce them you have two I only picked one but I think you can make an argument for a second one all right so the two teams we're obviously talking about are Georgia and Ohio State correct all right we don't need to necessarily talk about why Georgia is Flawless um apart from who's going to be the other guy at corner amongst the three really really talented probably NFL football Corners um that's the only real question going into camp and this new this new wrinkle with r but nonetheless yeah and you're also replacing a lot of players in the back end of your defense I mean M Starks as good as he is he's the only returning starter with the exception of D Everett so there's a lot to replace there on the back end and I think the secondary is where if George is going to lose a game in the last three years it's been because their secondary gets torched so I think that's the one where you could maybe say it's a question but it's also Georgia in a Kirby Smart team you know that roster is going to be full of talent all right so we'll put Georgia in the Flawless category iously here now you chose Ohio State I am anti- wih Howard deep State I think quarterback is limited I think there is legitimate question at that spot so that's why I left them off of this list because I could see them losing a football game because I don't truly believe 100% their quarterback I totally get why that's the case but will Howard had 3,000 total yards of offense and 24 touchdowns and 10 he was a solid quarterback I don't think he's a Heisman Contender I don't think he's a other worldly Talent at the quarterback position you've proved that you don't need necessarily need that I mean the last few national champions as good as the STS and Bennett was he wasn't a a jayen Daniels like Talent like he wasn't a world beater JJ McCarthy certain certainly wasn't this either so you don't necessarily need the world beater talent and his stats prove he's a very solid option at quarterback I think so the two examples of not great quarterback play or a guy who threw for 4,000 yards and finished third in the Heisman and a first round Pi I think that my question too for Ohio State maybe not even necessarily the quarterback position but I think too just it feels like there's going to be this somewhat shift of offensive identity for them and I don't necessarily know how I feel about that because the Ohio stay I know over the last six years is this team that has really good wide receivers that gets them the ball and they just dominate for four quarters and oh by the way they have a good defense as well they're going to get you off the football field and then they're going to go score in three plays because of their great wide receiver turning this if it kind of gives me the Vibes of what Alabama was pushing that preseason propaganda that they were trying to push of we have this great Run game we're turning back the clock we're going to pound the football throughout these football games we have two great backs in Ohio State that's kind of what we're going to do we have Chip Kelly Great Run game coordinator as well I don't know if I can fully trust that until I see it I just kind of want to see what that looks like what that feels like because I think if you get too drastic of a change on offense you're kind of losing what you've benefited from over the last few years I would be be more aopo to have a lot of doubts about this whole identity change and maybe becoming more of a run base offense if it weren't Chip Kelly yeah mhm like Chip Kelly took his offensive scheme and his Run game and then proceeded to lead the NFL in rushing for like four years while simultaneously being considered a shitty NFL coach real weird real real weird situation there with Chip Kelly all he did was go 10 and six and get fired in Philly and everybody thinks he's a [ __ ] it didn't work it didn't work in the NFL no it worked he just wanted NFL guys to practice at 6:30 in the morning they all said f you that that's what really happened right um but no it worked the guy the guy's football acument and football uh methodology certainly uh pays dividends on the on the field um so I am I am with y'all in the sense that I if I were to just go paper for p like on paper I think o Ohio state has just as good of a roster as Georgia I just don't necessarily 100% believe in the quarterback play cuz I I 100% believe that if you don't have a quarterback that can go like I said last week that can go 330 meaning in a football game if he has to can he do this can he throw for 330 yards on 75% completion can he throw for three touchdowns and not turn the ball over because sometimes in this sport nowadays that is what's required to remain perfect particularly in December and January I think it's going to play out more and more and if you don't have that guy you're you're you have a flaw in my opinion and that's the flaw for Ohio State um just just so you know he threw for 330 yards against Texas last year so maybe they have this guy they lost that football game right but and he had a turnover he had yes four touchdowns one interception so he kind of got it but he didn't he does that he he does that with Ohio States roster he's winning the football game right okay so this is a little Fair he do that all right so maybe he can muster up this type of performance I got to see it before I yeah it's fine to have reservations I don't I'm not out here like clamoring like you have to support this but I think I don't think he's as much of a liability as people want him to be because he's not the CJ strs and the the other guys that you've seen at Ohio State the last few years punch a hole in Oregon's roster right quick I don't have necessarily a hole to punch in their roster I have concerns with the fact that you're having your first year in a big 10 schedule and you're going to do a lot of traveling pun a hole organ's roster right quick cuz I got it I think my my my biggest hole right now with Oregon is not even on the roster it's Dan Landing in big games still kind of waiting on you for that one still that's kind of my that's really the only criticism I have of Dan Landing as a head coach both times we were in these big game situations kind of got a little questionable kind of felt like you HED your football team just a little bit you know think great coach but still there goes our scheduled interview with Dan I said great football coach I said it's the only question I have that's a joke fair question y'all do know why I I truly believe this is why other shows Don't Give opinions like that yeah cuz they know if I say that he ain't coming on or if I continually say that he ain't coming on I think Dan probably the guy that doesn't care if we say Dan probably does not have time to watch the film go Network despite his allegiances with the with the channel yeah um but that'd be cool if he did that' be sick um except for that part right there uh the hole on D on on Dan's roster out there at Oregon is pretty simple to me he's got 10 new transfers on the two deep defensively alone like we can talk about the new quarterback we can talk about second year in the offensive coordinator with a new quarterback we can we can talk about whatever you want to talk about with Oregon's roster the main thing is the fact that they got 10 new guys on that to deep that I guarantee are going to have to play this year for that defense so I don't expect the offense to take a step back in fact there's potential that the offense actually somehow improves I don't even know how that would be possible but it very well could Jordan James is an elite running back Dylan Gabriel is an elite quarterback by the way I think they have the two best slot receivers not named Luther Burton in the sport okay um both of which you know one's returning from last year number 15 I forget his name and then obviously they brought in uh the transfer Evan Stewart Stewart from Texas A&M so they have plenty of Firepower I I just wonder if they're going to take a step back defensively in a conference that you can't really afford to take a step back defensively uh pocah hle in Texas's roster go shoot I got a bunch of holes I think this is I I think you can make the argument that they're the most flawed title Contender right now because when I look when I look at their roster I continually fall upon questions that I have about them like first one you went and got Isaiah Bond and that's a great thing for your wide receiver core but you also lost 80 mits when you lost Xavier worthy you also brought in another transfer Matthew golden from Houston he's coming off a season where he had 38 receptions for 44 receiving yards so like that's good that you got some Replacements to follow up the guys that you just sent into the league but I don't know if it's going to be enough to replace the Firepower that you had last year at the wide receiver position position I think there's also fair questions to have about Quinn eers just like how we harp on Carson Beck needs to get better at the Deep ball Quinn uers needs to do the same thing he was historically bad last year soad like 26% completion percentage oh it was horrible yeah we read the stats off one time on the show but you know everybody like everybody remembers the one deep ball he had against Alabama perfect but that's not how it is every single Saturday for Quin so just like we say the same thing for back the same needs to be said for Quinn eers and they're going to need him to be better in that area for them to be better offensively and then also the secondary Highly Questionable they were 116th last year in pass defense and the spring game did not show any indication that it was going to improve this year also no Extreme Measures in the portal to improve such a defensive back field no along with all everything you said you lost receiver Talent your secondary was shoty at best last year you lost to vandre sweat your ability to plug up the interior offensive line on the line of scrimmage went down to significantly I think that they probably are going to take a step back in that regard as well which means you're going to have to lean more on the secondary which we all think is suspect so and the first round defensive tackle number 90 forget his name Brooks was that it no that Jonathan Brooks was a running back a couple years ago for them um he ended up going to Seattle I think his name will pop up immediately I think people are really falling in love with Theon byon young byon Murphy Murphy I think people have really fallen in with the lore of you know Texas is finally back they're actually back they're a playoff team that they've kind of looked past all the other flaws that this team has I mean it's Quin it's Steve sarkeesian which we all know he's an offensive genius Texas is going to be a good football team and know by the way they're suffering again from what I think Oregon I think a lot of teams are going to realize how difficult it is to play a new conference schedule nine defensive transfers on the two deep on a defense that was really really bad last year particularly against the pass they were they were okay against the Run they were okay in Havoc plays but outside of that it's like hey can Anthony Hill make a bunch of plays for us this year and then everybody else needs to take a drastic and massive leap they were so down bad at uh defensive tackle they took two defensive tackles from Arizona they took our guy uh Bill Norton yeah sir beats a Lot bill Norton and they took Bill Norton starter at the nose tackle position from Arizona so when when you're reaching to the depths shout out Bill Norton I bet the beats are sick but when you're reaching into the depths of the portal for Bill Norton your defensive line is uh your your cupboards pretty Barren right there all right uh poke H's and B's roster go wide receiver core to start it's not great yeah that would that'd be the first one and then also too that that's a lot to replace in your secondary ton all across much you still Malachi Moore is still there correct though going to play safety this year so he is there and that's great that you have a they got Keon Saab from Michigan that's right they did get Keon Saab that was a big transfer G for them but still I mean a lot of freaking talent in that secondary I mean arguably the best most talented last year in college football that would be my biggest concern right now for um Alabama then altogether just the amount of players that you did lose to the transfer portal after Nick sain retired I think that there that just creates um questions of its own this will be the thinnest and probably the worst Alabama's been at corner in 15 years yeah good Lord yeah since s sa was there I mean we're going to say that a lot I would imagine this is the first time since or whatever I mean but it it's noticeably uh impacted their their Corner depth you're right but you lose two guys to the draft both of which were underclassman no koola was a red shirt junor right he came back for another year he was drafted eligible after uh the 2022 three season um no 2022 season but nonetheless they're they're hurting a little bit at the at the corner spot for sure yeah I think another thing you have to look at is the quarterback position is going to be a question can Jaylen Milo run an offense that is systemed around kayin dor can kayin dbor alter his offense for just Jaylen milro as well that's one of those questions where if it pays off it's going to pay off very well cuz he's the most athletic quarterback in college football right now but if he can't adjust to that and you can't make that match make in heaven it's going to be very ugly if to start for Alabama's offense and no by the way you're in your first year as a head coach I think that's the biggest red flag there are going to be hiccups now he did just take a team to the playoffs with Washington but when you adopt a new roster when you adopt a new culture it doesn't matter you know how well you recruit how good your exes in those are Kirby Smart went 7 and5 Nick sa went 7 and5 uh Urban Meer went 9 and3 DAV Sweeny went 8 and four and their first years like no one really overachieves to this level when you take the first year so I think that's the biggest question you have I'm looking at the depth chart right now deanii Jackson the transfer from USC is going to start at one corner uh Deshawn Jones uh junior transfer a retro Junior transfer will start at the other and then after that the depth chart is comprised of three true freshmen uh zav brown red Morgan and jayen mbak they're an injury away from a true freshman getting on the field so a true freshman's going to be starting at some point this year for Alabama because that's almost guaranteed yeah you know that's that's a long way from having like four or five of them jokers just sitting on the bench over there hanging out no doubt um it's quite a fa all right poke a hole and Old Miss I think it's Old Miss I I think is that your hole I think the B well the biggest hole is like you've said when you have a mercenary roster if one thing slips you can kind of see it all fall apart much easier secondly Lane kein doesn't exactly have an excellent track record in big games and if you want to be a national title Contender you have to win big games so I think that's going to be the biggest question and again that's not necessarily a roster issue that's just a historical statistic thing that you look at As Old Miss and go hm this is something that you would raise an eyebrow at all right so toughest I when it comes to Old Miss I look directly at their Road games cuz their their their home road splits are completely a travesty with regards to offensive production so they have to go to LSU this year um they have to go to Arkansas they have to go to Gainesville okay those are the three hardest Road games that's not that bad it's not horrible you know B's not in there no Texas they get old Miss at home the schedule's not home they get old or excuse me Oklahoma okay the schedule's not terrible it's not terrible it's not terrible at all it's Ferman Middle Tennessee Wake Forest Georgia Southern Kentucky South Carolina LSU Oklahoma Arkansas Georgia Florida Mississippi State I mean it's got that should be 10 and two it's a manageable schedule for sure but again like we've said yeah what happens if the wheels start falling off the thing crash completely because it is a mercenary roster like we said it's assembled from a bunch of guys we pulled from the transer port this year and this year and you've got a lot of mercenaries on this roster H there's also probably other holes that you can find like the the the fact that I can't name a single offensive linan from Old Miss that's probably true is that fair is that prescor I was trying to look is the tight end back presc scoring is back yes okay uh I was looking at Jackson darts stats um 3800 with some rushing yards well I was trying to pinpoint specific games like he he was harping on the big games and I was trying to look at Jackson dart's big game stats and I looked at Alabama and Georgia last year and swallowed in both football G both of them he went zero touchdowns and interception of both of them and like 220 yards in both so I think that if you could if if that Trend continues but isn't that also that also falls under the category of road games CU they played both of those on the road last year I just the the system and granted they're a lot older now they're a lot more mature a lot of those guys came back guys like Trey Harris and obviously Jackson Dart and and some other prescor and they they have a lot of continuity and return value on that roster but if you can't take your system and run it without the bells and whistles and still win football games then it's really hard to win on the road uh you can hear every great coach in this conference talk about how hard it is to win on the road if you uh follow up on those questions about the difficulty on the road with a question like what do you do on the road to make things simpler for your offense from great coaches like Kirby Smart you will hear them talk about how you have to simplify simplify simplify basically you have to be able to line up and beat the people across from you in order to win on the road in this conference because the bells and the whistles get taken out by the crowd noise if Old Miss can't do that they're not going to be able to win on the road this year that has been their biggest problem since Lane's been there and since that offense really has been created in college football it doesn't travel well especially in this conference when it's really really really really really loud everywhere you go H meat and potatoes on the road that is absolutely it right there um we talked about that let's talk about these ages in college football you have a stat for us s CB yes I do so this year the 2024 college football season there will be S players beginning their seventh year at least of college football the seven yes yes is that what you're counting in your head I was like what is he about to drop yeah I have to do the Spanish numbers like I do the alphabet if you tell me o I have to go l m n o with uh Spanish numbers you said seven so I had to go Cino say C I'm over here doing that does your brain do that with the alphabet or can you immediately some letters I can some letters i p q q nailed it see I would have had to go M N O P QRS it's all right the more you know the more you know what were we talking about just keep saying the alphabet seven players are starting their seventh year at least in college football some of the most notable named is Cam ryzen quarterback for Utah he started college football in 2018 at Texas we were both still in high school weren't we yeah that was my first year out of college into the real world I was a junior in high school good Lord the mo the longest 10e one is Cam McCormick tied end for Miami started in 2016 Tyler shuck Louisville quarterback started in 2018 brt cuth tied end for Utah so Utah's got two guys that have been on here for seven years word up are they Mormon too I don't know this guy doesn't very Mormon cuz you know he could be one of those super old seven years too there's a lot of names on this list of you're like holy [ __ ] they're still here Gary bannan former Baylor quarterback he's at BYU now he started playing college football in 2018 is he even starting at BYU I don't know I don't think so but that's what I was about to say is every single one of these players outside of Cam Rising I guess like not really worth ass salt it's not even worth like there's not NFL player on this list well well no yeah they were they gone we're not even talking about like oh you're a quality like college starter yeah no it's just like you're a quality body yeah you're you're just hanging around this is the last this the last year of this right this is it yes so we shouldn't have any more Co additionals no should not right cuz if you were on a roster in 20120 you have the ability to get this so four years out I thought it was going to be basically till 2026 six technically cuz you could you could be on a roster in 2020 red shirt in 2020 uh medically red shirt uh or excuse me the 2020 year does not count you can medically red shirt in 2021 uh take a real red shirt in 22 and then you have three four five six to play yeah you're right 2026 will be the last year of this but we are going to see more and more of these phased out I believe it was so so predictable I wish I you know what my next our next employee might be an employee whose job is to categorize everything we ever say how about that 2016 recruit um and here's why I need this cuz we have had so many good takes and we've been like man when did we say that like prime example I remember being on uh Keith Miller's show out he's a a scout from California and I was on his show when the news that broke that Mark emerit was going to give him a additional year of Eligibility to everyone who is on a roster in 2020 across all sports and I immediately threw my hands up and I said this is the stupidest thing I've ever hurt and Keith Miller was like why I said it's an obvious backlog it's obviously going to create a backlog if we just take this large group of people and we push them back one year well what are you going to do to the next incoming people you're just going to push them down another year and guess what they ain't got nowhere to go High School seniors in 2020 couldn't just be like hey I'm going to redo my senior year I'm going play another year to avoid this backlog so it was so obvious to me how much you paying not enough not enough um but no we do need we do need a off-air producer I feel like I can't give y'all any more you know like certain things still flip through slip through the cracks every once in a while cuz we've got too much things going too many things going on so I want somebody that's just there to categorize Clips like going and finding the one about Hugh freeze like that we said that a week and a half ago and I wish I could just be like like hey remember that time I said that thing about Hugh freze go find it and then he goes and finds it and we play it so there is the resume or the job description for the the title of the the next employee for this company I like it there we go all right um where were we at we've got a couple topics left we oh Tennessee Tennessee Tennessee I want to talk about Tennessee uh Tennessee's been out here battling and I'm talking about winning them like Tennessee is out here winning battles against like the big boys Georgia and Ohio State and they've nabbed somebody else here recently like Oregon and I'm not talking about Tennessee beating out Kentucky not talking about Tennessee beating out Missouri I'm talking about Tennessee going to bat on the recruiting Trail against dudes and coming out smelling like roses all right um just recently they F flipped DeShaun brain a four-star tight end out of Kansas that was committed to Oregon I absolutely love this kid's tape um he's 6'5 to 6' six depending on what industry service you you you like to follow he's 230 lbs and he run like deer he run like deer now he a little stiff but he he's going to be a guy I believe on the college level um they beat Georgia South Carolina and Florida for uh lonza Hayward the safety out of uh tombs County and they not only beat those programs they were first to this Prospect so their Prospect identification process is really really good because the only reason the main reason I should that they beat out South Carolina Florida and Georgia for lonza Hayward is because they were first and if you're first on a 6'2 205lb safety out of tombs County Georgia you're pretty damn good at what you're doing okay you're pretty damn good at what you're doing um they beat Georgia and Alabama for Travis Smith Jr uh they beat Georgia for Christian gas these are really really good football players that I'm not going to sit here and tell you oh Georgia let that guy go no Georgia lost those battles just like Georgia lost the battle with Mike Matthews last year ladies and gentlemen Tennessee is recruiting like a really really really really competitive SEC football team and if you do this for enough years you won't just be a really competitive team on the trail you'll be a competitive team in the college football playoff picture okay and it's not he must have juice behind closed doors cuz we've talked about it he ain't got juice out in front of a microphone talking about Josh hyp he is not one of these flamboyant uh you know gravitational pull type Ora human beings in front of cameras never has been on the sideline doesn't even look like one of these doesn't even look like a high energy uh High Juice individual however he must recruit like one behind closed doors or maybe spy Sports does but hey he just beat Oregon for a guy too so it ain't just the money because if it was just about the money Deshawn brain would still be at Oregon all right cuz you ain't winning money battles against Oregon you must be winning recruiting battles against Oregon as you were in some of these other uh situations this has been I mean this is kind of the first season where it's felt like Josh hyp and Tennessee are actually creating like serious T attention and moment not like top 12 recruiting Buzz nabbed a couple five stars we're talking about D like battling in in major uh battles yeah like we have a recruiting class and it's great because Nico imala is in this class like it's not that it's George McIntyre is in this class and there's a whole bunch of other really good football players in this class as well and they're stacking it every single year now it's getting to the point where next year you're going to have Nico and you're going to have George McIntyre in this class and then you're going to have Mike Matthews and some of these and Travis Smith and all these other wide receivers that you're getting and the defensive side of the football is what's really impressive is that they're getting some dudes on the defensive side of the football and that's kind of been the whole thing and the whole knock against Tennessee and hypo is okay it's great that you have this terrific offense and it works but your secondary has been susceptible well they're recruiting on the defensive side of the football now I I study a lot of football you guys know this more so Tennessee than probably any other school that I watch that's not Georgia defensively everything that they do makes so much sense to me as to why they are doing it in 2022 they were one of the most Blitz happppy football teams in the country they gave up a bunch of explosives in the passing game the reason being they could not get home with just four so they became a blitz heavy team they didn't have a good defensive back coure that could hold anybody up okay so it didn't matter if if I gave you a second or three we were cooked so I might as well give you a second and hope to get you on the ground so that became a really Blitz happy football team last year James Pierce develops into one of the best pass rushers in all of college football so you know what they stopped doing last year they didn't Blitz near as much last year all right they stopped giving up as many explosives last year they changed football identities defensively week in and week out and just continue to get better um on the defensive side of the football and now they're recruiting dudes on that side of the ball and we know that offensively they're going to be competent in fact we know offensively they're probably going to be in the contention for top five more than likely top three offensive unit in the conference that's what they've done over the last three or four years with this football coach so and Lord knows they're going to be able to run the football as long as he's there they're going to be able to run the ball so um the the the stock is looking up for Tennessee whereas all the other traditional SEC East foes it looks like it's heading down now it doesn't matter divisionally obviously but in terms of where the SEC power is moving it's moving towards Tennessee away from South Carolina away from Florida uh in situations like that yeah absolutely I'm not saying they're stealing Thunder from Georgia yet but [ __ ] they took Mike Matthews you know they took Christian gas you know they might end up Landing David Sanders like this is a football program that's recruiting I don't think they're going to land Jamie French but I wouldn't coun them out at this point to land anybody right it looks like they're doing you know they they if they really wanted to I bet right now they could take Josh Petty seems like Josh Petty might be the first fivar to ever end up at Georgia Tech cuz he's 267 pounds but he's a five star and he's going to boost somebody's rankings really really highly whenever he lands um thoughts on the Tennessee thing at all I'm just trying to Rack my brain in general like is this the best the sec's ever been like in terms of of Talent it's acquired like Missouri's up Auburn's recruiting at a high level again if you don't include Texas and Oklahoma you go traditional obviously adding them makes it yes the best but yeah I mean LSU is a nine and3 football team but right I'm just going the conference normally they're one of these 11 and2 like potential National Title contenders we don't view them that this year but you're right there are you know Missouri's up Tennessee's up uh kuy's midling ky's Kentucky misses up misses up um I would say Auburn's On The Rise Auburn's On The Rise they're not up yet but they're on the move right B Bama might not be's still there Georgia they are yeah but they're still very good yeah I it's a good discussion to have I mean it seems like there are more teams that are on the rise or at least have their [ __ ] together than there aren't MH yeah like I I remember a time when you look at your schedule you go oh we got Missouri okay that's a 20-point victory that's a we have to play Missouri this week that's a battle nowadays yeah like even Tennessee 5 years ago okay we've got Tennessee we should be able to win that game no matter where it is Tennessee is a very good program now even Auburn like Auburn was a joke for the last three years they barely barely lost Georgia barely lost Alabama like and they have a top five recruiting class right now or they're going to probably so it's just a thought of mine Florida USC junr Vandy Mississippi State not good but those are all down yes who else would be in that down category South Carolina I already put him usfc JR oh yeah my bad um that's it it's about it everybody else is either oh Arkansas Arkansas is the fifth right there but is Arkansas down or is Arkansas just Arkansas Arkansas's bottom Arkansas's bottom and and they're are so far down their bottom we know what up looks like up looks like beating Texas at home and maybe winning nine or 10 games being a top 10 ranked opponent when you go on the road to Georgia that's what up at Arkansas looks like valid you how you got something over there Jay I was trying to think back of is this the best SEC has been in quite some time and for some reason 2014 popped into my head that was an odd year for to pop in my head but I went back and looked at just anyways and um Missouri that was the year Missouri won the East so they went 11 and three Georgia went 10 and3 that year Alabama went 12-2 that year Mississippi State went 10 and3 um Old Miss was ranked at the end of the year 9 and4 Auburn was ranked in the year 8 and5 that was a good SC and um South Carolina while their record was s and six I they beat Georgia that year I think Dylan Thompson was the quarterback or Thompson something Thompson was a quarterback they beat him in Columbia that year yeah Skyler Thompson maybe maybe Thompson right yeah for some reason that that's just you know you talk about weird football brain that was weird football brain moment yeah that was a weird football brain moment that makes me a little proud to know you right there that was pretty impressive um great year for the and it is a an upe without a doubt for the SEC it is a down year and a down uh future according to the show notes for the Big 12 wh why why did this get thrown into the show notes there CB I was just looking at statistics of national champions and all that and you realize like how that the run the SEC had during the BCS era was from like 2006 to 2013 They just won all the natties and then it was basically they've dominated as well with the exception of Ohio State in 2014 and Clemson those two years and you have to think about it Texas was the last Big 12 team to win The Natty that was in 2005 they're no longer in they're no longer in the Big 12 so even if Texas wins a national title it won't be a big 12 thing and I'm just kind of thinking like is the Big 12 ever going to be able to win a National Title with the way that college football is set up right now and the teams that they have all right so I broke this into categories of no shot and I could see it happening right all right here we go no shot tell me if you disagree on any of these teams Baylor's got no shot to win an national title as of now so we just talking 2024 I'm talking about Point Blank Baylor's got no shot really smu's got the shot for the small dog in that in that state nowadays y'all talking about y'all talking about recruiting battles Baylor's got to beat Texas Tech Texas Oklahoma Texas A&M and now SMU for recruits and oh by the way Houston ain't letting those caliber football players just walk out of Southeast Texas okay so I don't see Baylor in the way that the college football is constituted now winning a national title um even those bless you even those Cinderella stories like Robert Griffin's team they're not winning four games in the playoffs y'all can get the hell out of here with any idea that they would all right so y'all I any agreements you you gave me hesitation they're the fourth best team in the state of Texas I don't disagree with doesn't include Oklahoma I the only reason I'm pushing back a little bit is because they are one of the few Big 12 teams that like showed life in the early 10 like those 2014 the 2015 those art brials teams were very good now they were very good those art brials teams in 2014 are not winning a college ball playoff all right BYU no yeah I agree with that ciny not anymore Colorado nah Houston Iowa State no no don't even try me Kansas maybe H if they don't do it this year it's a no I would entertain them making a run I'm going to say no I don't think they have a shot Texas Tech nope West Virginia I'm good Arizona State nope all right those are the absolute NOS now it never happening no shot give it up um these are the teams that I think have a shot all right I'm going to give you a first tier and then there's a second tier I'll give you a second tier first TCU I mean they've there have been two or three in in the last 10 years they like in a national title TC is undefeated they managed to squeak it out have had two you know really really good coaches there over the last two decades we'll give it to them uh Oklahoma State m I mean consistent 9 and3 team could be could make a playoff a consistent 9 and3 team could be a 10 and two team one time and get dumb hot in December yep so it's a possibility possible I would we could see it K State sure could see it could see it all right now these are the ones that are in the first tier of this this uh uh conference in my opinion because of proximity to talent I have UCF here I think UCF could recruit like a top 15 team if they got an absolute Freakazoid dude of a football coach in there that cared G Milan's recruiting at a top 20 Level I believe right now and like I told you earlier during the Auburn segment that dude don't give a [ __ ] the only reason they recruited that well is cuz T will was there for like eight months all right and he basically signed every kid in metro Atlanta that was worth a [ __ ] um after that I put Arizona in the list of potentials um I think there's enough Talent out west that if you know Jed fish had a a jetfish type football coach had stayed there for a while they might have been able to put a run together and then I have Utah in that first group of teams that actually potentially have a chance yeah and but again going back to my original point of this like you're talking about one of those teams has to have a really really good season by Big 12 standards which is win 10 games in the regular season then you have to win three or four straight against the best teams in the country like it's going to take a and if if that did happen it would be the Cinderella story of all Cinderella St like what TCU did in 2022 was almost was B L like amazing the fact that they got as far as they did so it's just to me like I think we're we're shifting to a paradigm in college football where Big 10 and the SEC are the big players acc's got Florida State and Clemson for now and those are their two contenders and the Big 12 is just kind of a secondary conference I would assume they removed the limit per conference on the new 12 team playoff cuz when it first got pushed this format you were only going to have allowed to have a maximum of three per conference but that was when the Pack 12 existed so I would imagine they got rid of that stipulation now and it's just going to be straight up 11 top ranked teams and then the one freebie I'd have to assume so I would too because people like Matt ruer are out here making comments that are both Blasphemous and would be against the rules had that rule been in place the idea that the Big 10 should automatically get four which is absurd um that's a crazy take that's a crazy take I want to nail some crazier takes I want one one crazy prediction from each of you guys and I'll hammer it home before we head to the local hour are we ready oh I'm ready all right who wants to go first by the way I'm writing these and putting them on the wall okay I go first shot so you can go first do we have posted notes anywhere I don't have any over here I don't have any got student anymore I don't need I got quart tet over there um maybe we should we shouldn't permanently put them on the board should probably not probably not it's a bad idea I'll figure something out you guys get to talking we'll get our intern to save these takes for later and then we'll shout out to the intern I had the folks in the SEC podcast think we had like 20 people working on this show I'm like N Dog N dog small op small opop go ahead anyways so week zero college football there's a tradition lately I don't know how long it's been going on but say like the last two years maybe yeah for a while week zero there is a game played in Ireland it's usually with an ACC team last year I think it was Northwestern and Nebraska or something like that that this year it's Georgia Tech in Florida State it's a week zero game in another country with two teams that are for all extensive purposes On The Rise I'm going to go ahead and make the hot take that that is a ones score game so who's who's winning though or you you don't want to give that yet I'll give Florida State The Edge on that because their roster Talent is a lot better but I think the strides that Georgia Tech has taken in the last two years under their new head coach Florida State I think is going to be a regression it's weak zero you haven't had a lot of time to practice it's going to be the first time against live bullets you're going to have mistakes you're going to have mess ups things are going to happen in this game I'm going to say Georgia Tech versus Florida State is a ones score game I don't think that's very crazy had it been what would have been crazy as had you picked Tech to win that football game you don't think a one score game is crazy no that's going to be the line's going to be 12 points that's going to be 15 points I think you think so it's crazy man it's crazy you WI a a touchdown off the line it's insane all right well I mean you you to be fair you gave us this prompt like 15 minutes before we went on air that's fair that's fair what do you got for me well there's no excuses cuz I'm about to give you a crazy one I think I'm going to top both of you with this crazy take I'll go ahead and tell you one of the Heisman finalists for the end of the season right now you can go ahead and book it in right now so we got Georgia Tech versus FSU one score game all right what do you got big man I got Ashton jinty as a Heisman finalist is that he is Boise State's running back and he's he's going man with dreads he's going into year three this year last last year he had 220 carries over 1,00 total yards last season 19 touchdowns and still averaged over six yards per carry so we got a little uh Northern Illinois quarterback situation going on here what was Buddy's name k oh my God that was like man mans finished third in the Heisman that one year and was on a doggy doooo Northern Illinois football team they weren't doggy doooo I know but they ended up losing late and they were doggy doooo cuz they had a non power Five schedule and they lost a a game that they were heavily favored in um do you think Boise State wins enough football games for mans to win the Heisman well that was my other point Jordan Lynch in 2013 Jordan Lynch that was my other point of kind of harping on this is that the the group of five now is going to be in a bigger Spotlight more than it ever has been because they hold a playoff spot and I think Boise state is one of these teams that very well can end up being one of these group of five teams that get takes a playoff spot um I mean you read off the schedule it's they they obviously have some tough games cuz it's Georgia Southern then they have to go play Oregon so that one probably not going to go too well but it's Portland State Washington State Utah state Hawaii UNLV San Diego State Nevada San Jose State Wyoming and then Oregon State move the hell over Paul fine bomb cuz I got a hot take USC loses six football games this year six they're going six and six they're going to go six and six this year here's how they're going to do last year yes how how is that not as hot of a take one one more loss I'm clear out well listen to these losses they're going to lose the LSU Michigan Wisconsin Penn State one of Maryland Ruckers Washington Nebraska and L to Notre Dame six losses USC Lincoln Riley here's the toer fired into the season oh that's what I was going to say I was going to say you want to that's how you do it son that's how you hot take take a lesson take some notes take 45 seconds we'll be back very nice [Music] welcome into talk the dog the show where we find a bone to pick and a take to give these are not hot takes these is dog takes can I talk that [Music] dog you really like that [Music] let's shut up and grass with tap Chad said we're sleeping on Miller Moss as if linoln Riley didn't find a way to go 7 and5 with the number one overall pick facts welcome into to the local hour we have a loaded one for you we have a full on depth chart preview I'm going to undress that depth chart like nobody's business okay um it's going to be hot it's going to be awesome uh and you're going to learn a lot about this Georgia football team going into 2024 tonight uh we are going to ID the position battles of note during that position uh or depth chart preview what does Camp actually look and feel like for a college football player talk a little bit about that tonight um and then what is the most important player on the roster not named Carson Beck and of course we're going to start tonight's show with the commitments as of late cuz folks Georgia has been on a tear uh davius Wyman a 2026 Corner out of Jonesboro High School committed two days ago JJ Haney uh Haney or Haney how we goingon to go with that I have no clue Han I think Han I mean it's all right JJ Haney is a a German defensive tackle by way of Nigeria love that uh plays his college or high school football now out out in California we'll talk a little bit about him in just a second and Dominic Kelly just flipped from USC uh to the University of Georgia let's go in reverse order here let's talk about Dominic Kelly first uh Dominic Kelly was a or was a 2026 defensive back commit to USC which means during his commitment long-standing committ at USC meaning he committed to Dante Williams uh as a defensive back coach at USC he was one of the very first offers during the transition from Dante Williams at USC to Georgia as soon as he got to Georgia one of his very first phone calls was to Dominick Kelly to make an offer to him he played at IMG Academy be the last two years he will finish up his high school uh career at another School in Bradenton Florida from my understanding uh or maybe he ends up uh remaining at IMG nonetheless there's been a school change there during his time in high school um and he's a really really talented individual play for Raw plays for raw seven on seven you don't play for raw unless you're like one of the top five corners in the State of Florida and if you're a top five Corner in the State of Florida well by God you are a take you are a take at just about any University in the uh United States of America that plays college football so that's the Dominic Kelly kind of run down there we may or may not take a look at his film depending on how the week goes we got a loaded show tonight so we might not get at it um let's talk about JJ Haney the defensive tackle like I told you from Germany this is a football player that is part of the PPI organization which is an organization I was explaining this to someone today I don't know what PPI stands for but basically their job is to find people who have NFL bodies that don't live in America that might want to play football so that's their job they're basically a scouting firm for the rest of the world to pipeline football players into collegate unities here say what like the MLB kind of but the MLB just has islands that they do this with and they just pillage the village of the islands this is a uh organization that is out here scouring the Earth for really large 1centers and just saying hey want to play some football I'll teach you to football whatever you do just don't eat me like that's what's going on on with PPI and they've really really specialized I've kind of they've been on my radar for about three Summers now based off my understanding PPI really just specializes in freaks like just really big humans for example Tennessee took an edge rusher out of PPI last year um that was 6'6 had a broad jump of 106 and a vertical leap of 42 in uh had just basically started playing football was a former basketball player and now is an edge rusher at Tennessee so they do this over and over over and over and over again in terms of producing Collegiate bodies um and this is where this individual comes from he's very new to football he's only been playing football for a full football season and about two calendar years of of Collegiate football got his offer or high school football got his offer from the University of Georgia at Camp one of these guys that came down camped and absolutely balled out um during which and received an offer from Trey Scott now is a member of the class one of the very first questions I got or kind of predicted would get um maybe it's already shown up in the chat maybe it hasn't what does this mean for the Elijah Griffin and Justice Terry recruitments I would say nothing nothing at all this is a high cealing football player that even if you know even if and when he does sign with the University of Georgia uh is probably a developmental project this is not someone that is expected to come in and make waves immediately this is no different than what they did with lad Maki this is no different than what they tried to do with Jacob Hood this is no different than the numerous of stabs that they've taken with one 1% talented individuals and whatever trait that they need that individual to be 1% talented in for lad makoni it was speed for this individual it's athleticism at 65 280 lbs that he possesses it's very 1% now you watch this kid's highlight tape I talked about it today in our evil love him it's very Tasmanian devilish okay meaning he's just a whirling dervish he's just running around he doesn't know anything uh regards to football he just see ball get ball and that's great but you can see it in his movement patterns his body is very very um disconnected when he's out playing football the more and more he plays ball the more and more those movements will become streamlined the more and more they will become efficient the more the better athlete he will ultimately end up becoming so I really like the high-end ceiling of a player like JJ Haney particularly when you're trying to pair him with defensive tackles that look like they're going to be fresh ready to go the moment they get to College which is what I think a guy like justice Terry will be you sign Justice Terry he's going to be ready to play that Fall you sign Elijah Griffin he's going to be ready to play that next fall this individual will probably not be and that's okay that's a good balance of your roster um gavius Wyman is a football player that I didn't get a chance to see work out because he was still dealing with some track stuff and dealing with some uh hamstring tightness when I went to Jonesboro this year but it was very obvious when I was there just how much that High School staff believed in him uh and how much of a very special athlete that individual was any wanted to come to Georgia so those are very important traits for an instate take like J tavius Wyman uh and he I imagine will remain in this class I know it's very very early but I imagine he remains in this class this is a I guess a mission statement via PBI PBI recruits is the Premier Global organization dedicated to identifying developing and supporting exceptional International talent to enable athletes to achieve education yeah what I said they go around ntion they go around the world looking for big humans and say hey can I teach you to fot foot and then they teach him to football and they get them scholarships um by the way now that the chat has helped us out I want to take this moment to do something completely unnecessary and that's cook the oil industry once again um I made a statement the other day oil tycoons not like they're brilliant you know it's kind of just a hey let's find a spot hope we strike oil literally hope we strike oil and then all of a sudden we're like one of the richest human beings in the world one of you guys took offense to that and you sent me an article about how oil companies are started and the first step was find Capital all right we got to raise some money the Second Step was put together a management team okay that's every business the third step was get out and find a hole the fourth step was hope the whole got oil the fifth step was now you're rich sixth step was repeat process if not rich already you're not brilliant oil folks now the Engineers that run your plants they're probably brilliant they probably went through a lot of mechanical engineering classes and they're probably really smart to run those machines you idiots that decide where you're going y'all are just lucky that's it and I don't want to hear nothing else on the topic all right we can move on from that make sure you hit that Thumbs Up Button like subscribe and rate review and it's literally called striking oil it's a euphemism for luckiness what are we doing all right um depth chart dep chart let's do it depth chart let's do it all right to the board we go um can I leave the notes Here I think I can you can do whatever you want man thanks buddy thanks for telling me I have freedom to do whatever I want on my sh that's so nice of you that's so nice of you all right we're going to be in yellow today I like yellow and I left my pen on the table so let's go get the pen hey why don't you go get your pen hey you know what I I saw a tweet from Glenn Schuman today and I just want to say that it must run in the the the genetic pool of really really smart football Minds cuz my man got chicken scratch handwriting like your truly so I you know I feel a little bit better matter of fact I think my handri was a little bit better than what I saw on display from Glen Schuman today I think that's just a coaching thing okay well I'll take it doctors and coaches yeah and Brooks you know time out halftime you ain't got time to make it look nice and pretty you just got to get the point across my point is not a bad group to be associated with okay all right not a bad group here we're going to start on the offensive side of the football um the question here at this position is how do they rank these two cuz we know Carson Beck and Gunner Stockton are solid at 1 and two uh I'm going to make a change here just because and I'm going to flip these two I think they go to start Camp P gley first until rashada or excuse me put gy up in this depth chart before Rashad's up to speed what you the way I I I see why you're saying the way I put this is say you have some freak accent where the night before Clemson Gunner stockt and Carson Becker unavailable food poisoning yeah they're going to start rot just because of the experience now hugi has more time in the system I think but that in-game experience they've shown they value that's why I put rash there that it's it's a valuable point right there we'll we'll honestly leave it but that's the talking point in this room nonetheless there is no position battle there's no questions about who it is Rumor Mill says gunar Stockton grew his hair back out I don't know if that means anything oh [ __ ] is Right watch out SEC defenses gunar Stockton's got some lettuce um but I you know there's not much to talk about this room it'll be more of one of the more melan years in in in Fall camp that we've had at the quarterback position so we can move on um now this is the most important thing about this uh running back room right the idea that Branson Robinson could potentially be 100% healthy fully himself by week one against Clemson that would go a very very long way for this depth chart at the running back position I honestly wouldn't I'm trying to think of a time I feel like for the last definitely for the last two years the running back room in week one has been banged up you've not had had your top three guys going into week one that'd be a massive um that'd be a massive addition to the depth chart I think it's one of those situations that the medical team at Georgia has always allowed guys to not only take their time but make sure that they prove that that they're themselves in live action on Saturday before they start making any adjustments to the depth chart okay so what I'm saying is I think you're going to see maybe a game or two where Branson's thrown out into action maybe not in real meaningful action early on but thrown into action to make sure he's 100% comfortable before they start giving him 100% of the workload that he's inevitably going to get on this roster cuz I think when all is said and done if he's 100% back to himself what we saw him as his true freshman season we think he's the number two back on this roster do we not yeah I think so I mean I love what we've seen from Rod I I truly do but I think Branson of all of these backs has an ability to be like really really special based off what we know of his pedigree coming into uh you know not only what he did his freshman year he did stuff his freshman year JW that nobody outside of Nick chub had done correct when you get the nickname baby chub like you're doing something that was profiling to be honest with you okay you play running back you lift weights you Nick chub um well you also run through people and put up almost 100 yards as a freshman against Auburn that's fair that's fair yes see um this the stat you referencing is what he did against Auburn it was the first time that a running back in his first 10 plus carry performance had over 85 rushing yards and Sony Michelle there you go that's solid stats from Dr Jay will over there the stat man here on the show now the wide receiver room has probably had the most shuffling go on over the last week with the news of R Thomas being indefinitely suspended off of this roster now rro Thomas was going to be the starting X all right he was now that's marked through and now you have to make some adjustments now the question that I presented to sources inside the building today was hey is Kobe young just going to slide into that starting xot you're going to ask him to kind of make up for what happened with Rah all right we don't need to make any shuffling we had this addition via the transfer portal this offseason he's really really good let's slide him in automatically not ask any questions well it sounds like that's not what's going to happen okay what's going to happen is a combination of that with a combination of what happened last year at Tennessee if you guys remember last year at Tennessee Rah messes up his foot he's banged up lad Maki not available he's banged up Dylan Bell slides in at the role excuse me at The X receiver spot and has over 100 yards in that football game throws for a touchdown really kind of breaks onto the national scene as this Debo Samuel type well the great thing about dvo is he can play everything including the ex receiver position I think what's going to happen to start this season is Dylan's going to slide over into the X position okay and going to kind of take over that role until Kobe young proves that he can be the primary X on all Downs at that point I think Dylan Bell moves back to more of a z position role and you see these guys bump down this list right now I have Arion Smith starting at this position I think he more plays a a let's get him in the mix when we need to take a shot once Kobe young becomes a true ex receiver in this offense again this aren't just my thought processes this is something that I've had confirmed inside the building over the last 48 hours since this news has broke um the other thing that makes the uh this change right without Dylan Bell being over here at the starting Z position all right Aran Smith gets bumped up to the starting roll while also London humph I think has a little bit more of a role in this offense as well this year in his first year at Georgia as opposed to what they thought was going to be a year a year two development with the with the young man from Vanderbilt so those are kind of the talking points there at the wide receiver position and how things I think are going to ultimately uh Shuffle out ideally Dylan Bell returns to the designated pass catcher role that we're talking about it's really really hard to move an ex receiver in motion he's an ex receiver cuz he's an ex receiver he's over there by himself his job is to win one-on-ones we want Dylan Bell ideally as an offensive staff I want that guy in motion I do not want you to be able to account for him no different than last year with Brock Bowers I did not want them to be able to account for him until the ball is snapped the same thing with Dylan but you can't do that until Kobe's 100% ready at the exposition okay so I think that's ideally what you do uh towards the end of the season Once uh Kobe young is 100% up to speed I think the tight end room is pretty basic right here right you brought your Ros in for a reason I think he's going to play a lot of snaps this year for you guys but so will LW and lucky okay I I don't think you're going to be a a 12 Personnel football team this year I think you're going to be an 11 personnel football team uh just like you were last year 72% in 11 personnel last year with Brock Bowers and Oscar Delp on the the roster what you smirking for I'm just laughing about this time two years like they're going to run 14 person yeah yeah we we're out here talking about whether or not they're going to put four tight ends on the field a couple years ago and now we're transition ing all the way into modern offense where it's going to be 11 unless you're in short rardy situations and you'll see 12 all right so that's kind of how the the of all the offensive rooms these two are kind of the most boring uh in terms of how they're going to shake out I think they're pretty obvious with how things are going to roll now on to the offensive line uh don't love the way you did this I would have went left to right but hey you know what how how I should have made that comment prior to the show that's on me all right so right tackle uh Xavier trust him in R freeling I don't think there's any way Xavier loses this uh position battle uh any earlier than like week five week six week seven of this football season Monro fre is going to have to steal that thing from him or an injury is going to have to steal that thing from him that is what the history of Kirby Smart and his decision-making process has told us over and over and over again uh on this roster I think I was muted the entire time no I wasn't I just muted myself all right um all right on to the right tackle position guys this is the one I want to highlight cuz I have seen Jamal Merryweather in pads and on the sideline for 2 years and we didn't really get to see him in gday scrimmages the year before last or the year before this spring cuz he just wasn't high enough in the depth chart to really pay attention in the ones and twos group that changed this spring all right and he's always looked the part honest to God the very first time I saw him he looked like Andrew Thomas just from a physical standpoint as a true freshman he's one of the very few true freshman I've ever looked at he like you know what that guy already looks like an SEC football player the kid from Brunswick was exactly that I don't know if there's a an Avenue for playing time for Jamal this year I know this y'all better hope y'all keep on a hold to him CU I think he's an NFL football player your building thinks he's an NFL football player I just hope there's playing time early enough for him in his career where he doesn't have to go elsewhere to find it okay cuz if Ernest Green doesn't leave this year then you're looking at hey Jamal can you beat Monroe out right tackle next year I don't know that's still another question going into a season where there's a bunch of NFL bodies in these rooms and it's it's statistically impossible for you to believe that you're going to hold on to all of them okay for the remainder of their Collegiate careers um let's go into Center a huge year for Jared Wilson we'll talk about that here in a little bit uh with our Twitter question that we proposed to the audience today huge year for him here's the one thing I will tell you you talked about if it happened today what would they do if it happened today if Jared Wilson were to roll ankle in practice Tate Ratt will become the center for this roster okay they will move Michael Morris up to a starting roll at the right guard position and then they'll move forward all right I think if that happened today that's what would the change would be however when they practice Drew Bobo is the two at the center position and he's really serviceable okay he's a winnable football player at that spot all right move on to the guard positions these are the three names you should know this season Tate rage Dylan Fair Michael Morris you know the deal the other one that's going to get playing time I would imagine this fall is Daniel coun obviously Kelton Smith hadn't medically retired so he's marked off of this list all right but Daniel coun of all of the freshman in that 2024 class I think Daniel's the only one that really has a strong case to make the bus all right I think they're going to travel eight or nine guys on the offensive line this year as they typically do uh I believe Daniel kahoun makes that cut all right any questions about the offensive dep chart so is Xavier truss going to be the plug- in play replacement if someone else gets into your outside of a right tackle position or are they going to go into their to deep no it'll be Micah okay Micah can play tackle he did so in the spring game as well cuz that's kind of what he was last year where it was like Hey we've got some talking about truss yeah truss was very much so the swing sixth last year especially with am Marius and Ernest playing The Tackle spots he will not be the that this year he will be the starter at right tackle if anybody goes down Michael Morris becomes the swing player got it's a great question though that kind of answers my question cuz I was going to be what's the best Avenue for Michael mors on the field cuz obviously you don't really want to take Tate or Dylan off of the field this year well they will even when everyone's healthy they'll rotate um I would imagine based off last year Micah replaced Dylan but I'm I'm going to tell you in my opinion Dylan's the better football player than Tate and I know that sounds crazy but Dylan's got a chance to be a first- round draft pick Tate's going to be a second to third round pick um they might still rotate Michael with Dylan I would go three series meaning like everyone plays two so Dylan and Tate get the start they play two series then Dylan comes out for a series then goes back in and then Micah goes to Right Guard but it's really really hard to expect Micah to be playing left and right in the same football game I think that's part of the reason why they've always they always rotated him with Dylan and Dylan Alone um but we'll see one thing I know is that Tate's got plenty of tape on the in his uh you know catalog it's not like he needs extra reps if they want the extra Reps for Micah you can take some of them from Tate sure all right um any other questions about the offensive dep chart so really what I would take away from Rah no be no longer being on the depth chart is it really doesn't take anything away from the exposition but more so the Z not take away but adds to because now you mentioned it London humph now has an ample an ample opportunity to get playing time this season maybe that was kind of a question coming into this and based off what we saw towards the end of last year I think and the spring game I think there's no question you have to design opportunities for Anthony Evans in this offense I if if it means Michael Jackson never plays a meaningful down at Georgia and and hits the portal again or whatever that's it's not fine but it's far better that Anthony Evans get that burn than anybody else you know I think he has real real dynamic dynamic dynamicism I still didn't say that word right d there's no ISM it's just Dynamic right yeah I think it's just Dynamic but if you add the nature of being Dynamic to the offense you're adding Dynam Dynamic just just dumb football brain being dumb football brain all right that is the offense let's go to the defense can we one click this I think I have to do it over here all right give me an arrow all right we're on the defense now all right so we'll start I'm glad this is the first one this is the only this one and these two spots are the really only thing going into this uh fall camp that are kind of up for grabs and I don't think star is I think jonel Aguero is the guy will be the guy until he ain't they have invested so much in making sure that this guy is who they thought he was coming out of high school that I think they make sure he's not before they change anything um and by the way I think he has an opportunity it sounds like the off season has been really really good for jonell even since the spring he has an opportunity to play like a five-star cuz that's what he was coming out of high school he was a 6'1 205lb 438 Runner son of a [ __ ] he was a badass dude coming out of high school they need him to play like that this year he is the most physically gifted athlete they've had at that position probably since Tyreek Stevenson probably since Tyreek Stevenson he's more physically gifted than Tyreek Smith and I know I know ta excuse me I know ta what he just did at the combine but this guy's 2 in taller and faster all right I know what Bullard did at the combine this guy's 2 in taller and faster youall see what I'm saying this is as physically gifted as any football player that they've had at that spot he's got to find the instinctual nature that makes this spot special the guys that have been great at this spot the last couple of years have been instinctual freaks they just know where to go they know where to be they know how to impact football plays this is a guy who's going to have to develop that by the way I think with time he can do that right with time that that type of stuff can be found it's not always second nature even though for most of the great ones it is second nature all right uh jakori Thomas I said in our defensive depth chart article today he's just too good of a football player and he's just done way too many things right to not believe he's going to be in the in the in the mix this year for playing time okay he's also by the way on leadership counsel I'm telling you right now if Kirby Smart if you're one of the first seven guys he throws in front of the media you're going to play You're going to play that year I I can almost 100% guarantee it so I think they find roles and ways to get jakori Thomas on the field at some point I also think it's worth talking about this right here all right dalen Everett potentially playing the nickel position and I I emphasize the word nickel not star I do not expect dalen ever to be out playing nickel on First and 10 I do not expect D ever to be out at nickel on second and two on third and 17 I'd play him at nickel I'd put my I'd put my five best cover guys on the field and guess what he's one of the five as is Julian Humphrey as is Daniel Harris so on Third and 17 I I think they might bump Dal ever into the the nickel spot have him cover whoever he needs to cover provide safety help and then on the outside allow an opportunity for Julian Humphrey or D Daniel Harris whoever didn't win the starting job that week to get some burn on obvious passing Downs I think it makes the most sense for the entirety of the room that includes the safeties that includes the stars that includes the corners for that opportunity to present itself let's go to the strong safety spot I do believe Dan Jackson gets the start um here at this position opposite of Malachi Starks we've talked about it ad nauseum however I do think KJ Bolton gets an opportunity to make his way into this lineup at some point look I've talked about this over and over again if Kirby Smart mentions your name as a true freshman you're going to play like that's just the way it goes you're going to play if he's talking about you at SEC media days if he's answering questions about your your ability to to pick up the defense and do all stuff you got playing time coming your way I don't know how soon it's going to be I think it's going to be as soon as Clemson I think third or fourth series of that football game you see KJ Balton in the mix all right I think that's how good he is I think that's how well of a transition he's made from high school to college this room kind of speaks for itself I think that's pretty uh self-explanatory Malachi Starks doesn't come off the field until he Taps his helmet and that dude don't tap his helmet all right uh the corner battle I do believe Julian Humphrey kind of gets the the initial nod and then you see uh who wins ultimately between he and Daniel Harris um I think what I saw in the Orange Bowl tells me Daniel Harris might be one of the most talented Corners they've had in a long long time I think there's a lot to the game that still needs to be made up um but the physical traits that Daniel Harris provides they're crazy they're crazy he's 6'2 he's 200 lb he might be 6'3 honestly he might be closer to 63 than he is 6'2 um and his fluidity is insane the ball against Florida State he's beat by like three or four yards on a deep ball and he finds the recovery speed to close the gap and then the length of his body of his frame to stick his hand in the play in The Catch Point make the play those types of plays are invaluable at the corner position particularly at Georgia when they leave you on an island quite often so I I like the idea that this is the battle I also like the idea that they play them both until they can't play them both until they have to make a decision I like the idea of rotating those two guys um the only talking point I have here at Mike is I do believe raayan Wilson he played a lot of will last year almost exclusively will but I think that was by Nature um and by not necessarily by Design I think by nature for the same reason this year he has to move to Mike for immediate playing time and here's why obviously everybody knows pop left this room at the Mike linebacker position which has promoted CJ Allen I think CJ Allen might have beaten him out anyways that was part of the reason for the the departure from pop however all right these two guys played together last year in the tw's unit all right raayan Wilson uh excuse me CJ Allen played the Mike raayan Wilson played the will but this year the Will's pretty spoken for in terms of the two deep all right Jaylen Walker's probably going to be that number two at the will spot smile mondon obviously going to be the starter I think that allows an opportunity for raayan Wilson to get on the field with the technical twos right at the mic position what I don't think they do all right is bump ra Wilson for Troy BS or bump Justin Williams for for raayan Wilson and keep this room over here way way way way way too crowded all right so bottom line I think that's kind of the rotation and by the way if you can play Mike you can play will at the University of Georgia if you can play will you can play Mike the rules are relatively the same apart from the pass game UH responsibilities all right so I think that kind of solidifies those two rooms as we move on to the defensive tackle position all right this is a big one obviously Jordan Hall is down here as well I know that looks like a g it definitely doesn't look like a J uh maybe an O Jordan Hall's down here as well probably won't be available until maybe week one um it sounds like that uh what was it a uh a stress fracture some type of fracture some type of Str fracture some type of stress fracture some type of what I I think deemed medically a hairline fracture sounds like a small issue that will be repaired without injur or without surgery just needs some time for the bone to heal um which sounds again to me like a hairline fracture all right so he will be available at some point uh leading up to week one there are optimistic uh you know viewpoints on the idea that he will be available for week one but you guys know the deal if you're not fully healthy for Camp I don't expect you a full participant in week one of the football season so these are the three names that have to play really really well week one against Clemson that's Warren Brinson Xavier McLoud or as we call him around here mcle out and Kristen Miller who I I put it out on patreon Kristen had a really really good summer I know there was a a little flirtation with the portal and there was an idea that he might leave and things like that but it sounds like a light has come on for Christen Miller during the offseason workouts sounds like there's been some some growing up some toughness created um through the last couple of years at Georgia so they're they're they're bullish on on his number 52's year going into year three at the University of Georgia the nose guard position um I think through the transition of what's going on with Michel I think you're going to move slightly away from playing as much mint as you have in years past also because you don't necessar have the Jordan Davis of the world last year you played considerably less mint than you probably ever have a lot of that due to the fact that you didn't have both Jordan or Jaylen okay so I think you move more to maybe this looking more like a two defensive tackle unit than it does a true zero and a three Tech okay um when a true zero is required however jaw Jarrett will do that work I imagine this year I think J Jarrett has worked his way into the true zero role by the way he's the only guy on the roster that really fits the physical build na Zer stack house is a huge a very large human he is not monstrously big okay he's 6'4 he's 310 he he moves really really well he's an NFL body and an NFL mover he's not 66 350 jaw Jared is 66 350 and it sounds like he's again found that toughness now I think the the reporting and the the the discussion around Mikel Williams moving to Jack has been slightly overblown um cuz I don't think it's going to be his only home I think going to play he mentioned it to me in our interview at SEC media days as a jack package as he's going to be playing both I think he splits duties at both and I I think this is the way it goes I think on first and second down you see him playing defensive end on any pass rushing Downs you see him playing a standup Jack role being able to get after the passer and do so freely um as opposed to years past where he's playing in more of a four ey role on passing downs and the other guys getting the opportunity to rush I think that kind of tilts this year in favor of Michel's ability to get off the ball um these two guys are really really good tan inam Dawkins and Gabe Harris um if my memory serves me correct I don't think George has ever had this type of depth at the defensive end position they've had years where Trayvon Walker and Malik Herring are on the roster and Trayvon Walker is a number one overall draft pick and Malik Herring was undrafted but still on an NFL roster but I think all three of these guys play on NFL uh roster for a very long time M Kel angard and Gabe Harris and oh by the way Joseph Jonah Jon as a true freshman has shown the like ability to maybe potentially play in year one so I think he's going to be an NFL guy I don't think George has had four draftable defensive ends or what will go on to be draftable defensive ends since I've covered them that's not how this has worked okay so you're you're deeper at this spot than you ever have been by the way also think you're deeper at this spot at Jack than you ever have been okay cuz when we're talking about having to find we we're going to have to manufacture snaps for Dam Damon Wilson we're going to have to manufacture snaps for Sam and Pima and oh by the way we're going to have to manufacture snaps for Jaylen Walker to rush the passer as well you have an uh an ample amount of options at these positions it's a matter of identifying uh their most winnable weeks all right I think they're going to be weeks with these three these two names plus Jaylen Walker I think there's going to be weeks with those three names where those guys have multiple sacks all right because the the staff has identified hey this week the right tackle really struggles with length and speed Damon Wilson hey this week this guy really really struggles with anybody who has an ability to bend salmon Pima hey this week this guy kind of struggles with a combination of rushes let's go jayen Walker right that went there was a a a coaching Clinic that got put into the Discord uh a couple weeks back about Dan Landing uh finding the donkey I think is what he talked about you got to find the donke donkey and what he was talking about was when you look at an offensive line there's almost always a donkey meaning there are five horses standing there well there's really only four horses and one of them is an obvious donkey he is clearly not a stud so we attack the donkey we find him and then we attack him they'll do they still do the same thing at Georgia now it's about uh winning your matchup and identifying the matchup that you're most likely to win AKA finding the donkey which ever donkey presents himself that week I think is how they choose to uh deplore these options that they have right that is the depth chart going into the spring or excuse me fall camp for Georgia this year and it is a damn good one boys and girls any thoughts would you say this is the deepest Freshman Class Georgia has had on defense deepest freshman class from a standpoint of the most amount of guys that will impact this roster that's what exactly what I was meaning by that yeah I I would argue that it is I mean you got KJ Bal Ellis Robinson and Joseph Jon Jon off the top of my head that I think are going to make impact Justin Williams Justin Williams got a long way to go in terms of the depth chart but not in terms of Readiness to play yeah I would think he's going to be a guy that's you know I can't wait to watch Justin in in mop-up Duty watching him flash Chris Cole the same I mean those are those are two very very freakish human beings that play safety or play linebacker at Georgia Stefan Shivers is going to be a borderline firstr draft pick whenever he comes out even as a nose tackle uh Stefan Shivers uh better keep his weight down if that's going to happen that's all I'll say spon Shivers last time I heard is like 385 s Shivers is a big man and you ain't I don't care who you are you ain't playing in Georgia unless you're under 350 borderline unless you're Jordan Davis and you can do it at 365 lift yourself at 350 but you're a freak of nature so the the the touchdown run on Stefon Shivers as highlight tape is scary though yeah it's very scary however the weight it is too got got to got to got to keep the weight down got to um and it's hard it's really really hard to keep the weight down um but it is what it is all right um what does Camp look like I want to talk about this cuz I I do find it unique to our platform that we do have as many former athletes on this channel as as we do um even though it's two out of three from the football perspective it's three out of three from the hoopers perspective um I didn't play in high school yeah you're right sorry man's got no hoop skills no I don't I would't even lie I mean I didn't play competitive Hoops in high school either but I was going three out of three from a competitive athletic standpoint valid very very valid um we're not just people who liked sports but couldn't play them so they chose to make it a career out of covering them that's what I'm getting that's that's fair that's what I'm getting at um all right so this what does Camp look like until school starts it's hell when does school start for Georgia the first class school starts August 14th on Wednesday two weeks all right so for the next two weeks this is what it looks like cuz there's no class to ba you out boys and girls so you're just you're at the mercy of your football coach so nine times out of 10 this is what the schedule looks like for the next two weeks for 14 days straight this is exactly what a college football athlete is going through you ready Waits at 6 a.m. or 7: a.m. depending on when the offense defense split is that week so one week you'll have it at 600 the next week you'll have it at 700 um then meetings will immediately happen after that you'll be sweaty as [ __ ] you'll have an opportunity to maybe take a shower depending on how early or late your lift was you'll run immediately to meetings right after that you'll spend about an hour maybe an hour 15 with your position coach that's just your position coach so you and your 10 guys y'all will sit there y'all will watch either an install or y'all will watch film from the day before y'all will watch some type of something coach will Coach you up on it and then y'all will go over whatever install you need to for again a good hour and then you got a slight little break all right you can do whatever you want for the next 90 minutes but at noon we need you back in the lunchroom for team meal all right we're going to eat as a team at noon and then right after that right after we get done after eating as a team we're going to go down to the team room and we're going to split up offense and defense and your coordinator is going to address you as a unit normally during this we're doing again some type of install for the week we're doing some type of packaging and updating what we're doing defensively or offensively in that team meeting and you'll be in that team meeting for a good hour uh with your uh offense or defense and then after that from 1: to 2 at 2:00 you'll have whatever pre-practice routine you got so so you'll go down to the locker room me I was a tape and stem guy so I'd have to get stem first on whatever was bothering me um probably wouldn't go ice probably go heat during the stem cuz we're about to go through active work um and then immediately after heating stem I'd be on the trainer's table getting my ankles taped I'd tap my wrist myself after that we'd go into the locker room put our gear on at 3:00 practice starts but if you're anything revolving additional responsibilities meaning if you're a snapper if you're a holder if you're a quarterback if you're a Center if you have anything that's outside of basic position play you have pre-practice at 245 so you have an additional 15 minutes of practice you got to show up for if you're a snapper you're snapping if you're a quarterback you're doing what's called QC exchange okay you're over there with quarterbacks working on your snaps all that good stuff uh if you're a defensive back maybe you're over with coaches working drops there's a pre-practice process at 2:45 at 3:00 we'll start practice practice will normally go about 3: probably 3 and a half hours practice will end at about 6:30 uh and then team dinner right there after that uh immediately after team dinner we'll have another team meeting of sorts probably bring in some type of speaker it's the end of the day your attention spans dog [ __ ] we'll bring in somebody to give you some type of message about team and unity and then at 9:00 we'll release you to go back to your room lights out at 10: we start it over again tomorrow 14 days straight love it bro you'll never see student athletes so happy that class has started never every year during Camp I prayed when when did school start when did school start cuz it's the only thing that gives you a break because during Camp you're it's not even two days it's all day you know what I mean oh I forgot a walkthrough a walkthrough is mixed in there somewhere so pretty busy I say every year during this time if you DayDay football player just know see you see bye he ain't he ain't cheating on you he ain't worried about you uh he worried about himself and surviving the next 14 day so leave him the hell alone leave him alone turn your red receipts off boys get to work did they make you stay in the dorms when you did well at shorter you were in dorms no matter what yeah so yeah but any other football team you'll be in dorms they'll be in regular student dorms um checking in there will be tape on the doors there will be all the whole full security measures to make sure you are a trapped prisoner for the next 14 days were you a spat guy or under the sock uh I was under sock guy I never spatted during practice um spatted one game and it was my final game senior year most athletic trainers refuse to spat yeah most most good athletic trainers refuse to spat for those of you who don't know uh what he just asked me was do I tape my ankles underneath my my socks and my cleats or do I tape over my socks and my cleats that's called a spat job most people spat their ankles for just good looks I do think it looks sick as [ __ ] every trainer I ever had refused to do so I would have to tape myself uh cuz they said it was just show tape and it makes their job harder if you were to roll your ankle with spat on they got to take that all that [ __ ] off and then tape your ankle like they're supposed to fair enough um the craziest athletic training tape thing that I've ever had was my senior year of high school I had to shave my legs really because my ankles were so bad that my athletic trainer basically told me I refuse to tape you unless I can tape you to your skin we're not going to use prewrap so we're going to tape you straight to your skin and unless you want me ripping your hair off every day you need to shave your ankles so I had I it was a Nike Elite time period so I didn't really have to worry about it cuz everyone wore Nike Elite socks and those are up to your mid Shin anyways so I was yeah I was a skinless I was a hairless cat from the ankle down straight to the skin straight to the skin it actually it it feels much better once the sweat starts to work but that first 5 minutes is is pretty rough yeah yeah that's right at 300 lb I was sweating within five no doubt no doubt I was sweating thinking about sweating um but yeah that that is what college football life looks like for these individuals for the next several days most important player on the roster not named Carson Beck that was the question I proposed to the Twitter audience today we had over 160 replies today boys and over 45 quote tweets on this one tweet so the Georgia fan base was more than willing to get interactive uh as was every other fan base willing to make jokes at the expense of Georgia because the number one response I got today on this question that I proposed on Twitter of who's the most important player on georg's roster not named Carson Beck was the Athens Clark County defense attorney and uh people thought that was hysterical so good for them we got the jokes I'm going to tell you right now I said it in Discord I'm going say it right now Kirby I need you to figure everything out and just have a perfectly good roster because my Twitter mentions and my patience is up I'm good I'm good on every Athens clar County uh joke I can see I'm good on every defense attorney lawyer I can see I'm good and I don't even root for you Jokers I just cover you and I'm tired of seeing it for Christ sakes all right what are your options and why go ahead it's honestly kind of hard to select because we we just went over it they're so deep this so deep you feel like if one guy goes down you could probably have someone not necessarily as talented but adequate enough to play that position to where it's not this is a detrimental loss I chose Mikel Williams because I think his skill set and the fact that he can play multiple positions on that that front seven makes him so unique to where if he were to go down it would be a massive loss and it would take multiple players to fill his void this a solid answer I got two answers I'll give you one offense and one defense on offense is Dylan Bell for me I I think he is the most versatile weapon that you have on offense I think you can you can plug and play him anywhere you can do so much with him and he in my opinion is the key to really unlocking this passing offense and he's the guy that you need the biggest year out of so I think he is the most important player on that offense because if he's having a big season that means everybody else is too that means that offense is eating that means Carson Beck is doing what everybody expects him to and the offense took a step forward and then um for safety or for sorry for defense it's Malachi Starks because you're talking about replacing if if if you do not have Malachi Starks that safety room immediately drops down by five 10 spots on whatever metric or ranking system you want to because Mala Starks is the headliner of that defense he is U he's the glue to that room and he is the most important player on defense in my opinion Malachai star's glue guy just Elmer's Glue though we're talking about Gorilla Glue we're talking about Gorilla Glue oh yeah my grandfather uh talked to me about Gorilla Glue yesterday as if I didn't know about Gorilla Glue and I had to be like what's it called what's it called you Saida is that spelled like gorilla or is that spelled special but anyways um sometimes you got to abl them yeah sometimes you got to De especially a great man like that youever put Gorilla Glue on a cut no but that's a originally why uh superglue was invented did you know that World War II put Cuts together yep now we have Gorilla Glue um my thought immediately when I proposed this question was it's now Kobe young I think it's so important for this offense to have a true X we've talked about it for years on years on years end on this channel um and having a solidified X I'm not saying Dylan Bell can't be that but Dylan Bell as I talked to you about on the board Dylan Bell's best trait for this offense this year is to be a designated pass catcher they need to find ways to get that guy motion to hand him balls on jet sweeps to get him balls in the in the space uh out in the flat uh via uh quick screen passing games things like that it's hard to do that as a traditional X um at traditional X spots we're doing things like running deep posts we're doing things like running one-on-one comebacks we're doing things like running digs okay we're doing things like winning on Slants on on third and four we're doing those types of things at X we're not as a design game explosive at the exposition as we could be at the slot or as we could be at the Z or as we could be at uh you know running back or wherever they want to line him up it's hard to make him undefensible if he's playing one spot at the exposition I think kobby Young's development in this roster or on this roster rather is pivotal for the success of this offense now I want to go to some of these Twitter suggestions I want to read some of these can I ask I saw this question in Discord and since you just talked about him I think it's a good time to ask this question someone asked when you say KOB young turns into the guy does that mean the staff is expecting him to overtake the X like were they expecting him to overtake X even with Rah on the roster they thought I was an NFL football player okay um the Lo it is a loss like this is not some guy that they just thought was a placeholder like ra Thomas was a guy they thought was like maybe a second or third round draft pick I the type of football player they thought he was going to play like this year um because it was a little bit of a slow grind last year and oh by the way he had a foot injury last year did ra Ro Thomas so he wasn't even 100% himself on top of not being 100% into the Playbook or caught up I should say with the rest of the offense on the Playbook side of things um I don't think they expected Kobe young to be the true dominant like guaranteed he's our guy at X prior to this they're hopeful that he can develop into that after this um which again is why I think they start out this season with Dylan at X and work Kobe young into that role all right let's hit some of these Twitter replies this one comes from Joshua Harold uh I liked what he had to say Oscar Delp just because Bowers is gone doesn't mean Georgia plans on changing its whole offense still going to a lot of tight end involvement relied on um I think and I've said this before I think the perception around Oscar Delp would have completely changed had he caught maybe like three of those deep balls last year yeah if you add 120 yards onto his stat line last year he goes from a 450 yard receiver to a 670 yard receiver and we're talking about how georg's got the best tight end coming back in college football like that would have been the discussion I feel like had things gone a little bit differently and and both of those are both of those guys like a couple of those deep balls last year like the one at Auburn we counted him he had seven and a half steps to make an adjustment on a ball that was obviously thrown inside he catches that ball this year and not only does he catch that ball I think he might take it to the house there's nothing but green grass in front of him there was another play like this on the sideline where a ball was just slightly overthrown over his head it goes off his fingertips out of bounds that's a 45 yard completion if it's caught I think these things completely change the narrative around Oscar I think the narrative around the TIY room completely changes not only that but if y OIC isn't hurt last season and he has a full season and he like duplicates what he did the year prior I think they're everybody already talks highly of Georgia's tight end room just because of the history more so but also what they seen Oscar de but if you had a healthy season from you're aing a bigger season from Delp last year s c h e i m a NN Skyman shiman we're going to call him scheman our boy Nick scheman over on Twitter says the word quote important is ringing out I'm hearing I'm hearing D ever come to mind having a lock down corner on one side of the field has been a staple of every Kirby Smart team I like that answer I do too that's why I liked it literally um it's true Georgia has always had a strap on one side of the field um and it's always been year two strap you know what I mean it's like hey year one you were the guy they hunted now guess what you're the dude they're going to stay away from you because you're a strap by the way I thought dalen had fewer moments of oh my God they are they're going to kill that kid all day today than even like ail Ringo did two years prior I don't think people remember how how Dreadful and how terrified ke Ringo looked game one against Clemson he got multiple dpis he got dunked on like once or twice down the sideline in a football game in which Clemson could do nothing offensively oh that South Carolina game that year was same way yeah and he he misplayed a ball against Florida that same year um came back and made another play a little bit later but there are examples of this every year and I don't remember I think that was a blitz though wasn't it maybe I don't I the point is I don't remember a ton of these examples of Dal just getting picked on last year where maybe Auburn but even Auburn he made one of the bigger plays in that football game on Third and long denying a ball on the sideline like there were a couple of football teams that thought they could hunt six Old Miss was one of these football teams uh I think Luther buron got him early in the football game against Missouri and then they moved him into the slot and it was null and void at that point but dalen didn't have too many like God he's awful plays last year and social media treated him like he did well I mean that's that's the typical Georgia social media way if you've noticed but I mean there were Mo it seemed like d ever's worst moments came against some of the best players in the country and that's going to happen in your first year you're getting true burn I I think he's going to take massive strides and I think it's kind of unfair the way he's or the The Narrative around him is unfair right now so I I I do think he's one of the more important players of that defense it's just one of those positions where if you're not playing perfect you're playing bad in some people's eyes there a very similar to offensive line in this talking about you is for bad reasons if you if you let one pass Pusher through or if you let one deep ball get over your head and make a big reception then that's autoally written automatically written as that's a bad game you suck find your replacement and it's both are very hard positions but defensive back especially I mean one of the hardest positions ever and on top of the fact that nobody knows what you're really supposed to be doing at corner you can think you know everything about Corner play and there's odds are that you don't know exactly what coverage that individual is supposed to be in so you might you might watch somebody give up a 5 yard hitch and meanwhile they're in cover four like he's he's got deep quarters he's going to give up the 5 yard hitch shut the hell up guy on Twitter that thinks the kid sucks that happens so much more at The Corner Spot than any other position that I can remember other than maybe like quarterback you don't know how they're taught to read their progression so how could you sit there and criticize their progression or the read of the progression uh more of these Twitter respons is our guy Winfred franois our guy Winfred franois on Twitter says number 11 on both sides so that's Aran Smith and Jaylen Walker on both sides of the football both going to play very unique roles I don't think either of those individuals are going to play starter minutes but I think both of those individuals are going to be put onto the field to do very specific things Arion to be explosive Jaylen Walker to impact the passer I think if you could guarantee me that Aron Smith is going to hit on 80% of his de balls that's pass is going to be accurate and they're going to catch it and Jaylen Walker is going to have a 80% pressure rate on third down that's a incredible guarantee for Georgia this year absolutely yeah I I don't think they're going to make a break whether or not you win or lose games but they're certainly going to help you if they Doh all right on to uh our next response here on Twitter this comes from Josh Armstrong one of the more uh vocal members of our chat over the last couple of weeks says at Brooks aus NBA this team needs a vocal leader on defense the QB if you will bull is gone Kamari is gone who can bring the juice is it Everett KJ Balden Gabe Harris smile is pretty quiet I think Michel steps up in a huge way being that he's finally healthy um I think the burden falls on CJ Allen say I got this vibe from CJ Allen I did during the Spring I felt like he was he's not going to be a scream at you when you're not doing your job type of guy he's going to scream at you before to make sure you know your job mhm does that make sense very akin to noobe in this sense now noobe did some corrective action in the national title game against cheny Tindle but majority of noob's uh additional support to his teammates was pre- snap yep I'm I'm going to make sure my teammate knows what he is supposed to be doing prior to the ball being snapped so I I could see CJ taking over that role um it's it's going to be KJ's defense two years from now when he's a junior everyone will look to him everyone will he'll have all of the answers um maybe even as a sophomore next year might next year maybe even as a sophomore next year but I think it's a little too early to to ask the true freshman to be the vocal leader on this defense um Mikel certainly is an introvert by Nature um kind of handles his business doesn't want to be vocal but I guess he's kind of in a role where he has to be now the same thing said for Malachi um but in terms of who is this defense going to look to in the fourth quarter to make sure the call is right it's going to be CJ Allen I would imagine all right on to our next one uh it's an easy an answer but a big seizon for Michel would really help the defense jonel Aguero showing out would be huge name uh someone less obvious I I like the addition of Jonah Aguero into this discussion it's important that he plays really well because that position historically has been very vital to the success of the Georgia defense um and then what the more over what Oh I thought you said something I thought I heard something is that my own Echo um the uh the most frequent response was Jared Wilson today got to have a big year from the center replacing SVP obviously a a very large hole to fill both from a leadership standpoint and a performance on the field I think Jerry Wilson's going to be very important from a pre- snap standpoint like I think the the drop off you're going to have from level of between the whistles isn't going to be super noticeable on field people don't usually watch the center anyways I think what happens before the snap is going to be the biggest impact he's also your comfort on the road is drastically impacted by your Center play as well I I think the most hostile environments last year with Auburn and Tennessee they didn't have a pre penalty in either football game y wow that has a lot to do with SVP it also had a lot to do the Tennessee game was one of the more brilliant offensive game plans with regard to taking out crowd noise that I've ever seen they got on the ball so quick and called their plays so quick that the fans couldn't even get loud because you fans y'all like to scream the last 10 seconds of the play clock but if I'm on the ball and we're ready to snap the ball with 15 seconds left on the play clock you're KN and void you don't matter we've already got everything figured out so I thought they did a great job on the road last year of doing exactly that um to where the the impact of the the center position and the other office Aline weren't as meaningful um all right that is our show for tonight make sure you hit that Thumbs Up Button like And subscribe and on your way out we will see you
