been here a while it's rough we so seldom have a guest appear we're so happy you've joined us here so sit back and relax cause stress makes you stringy and tough and we run out of our supplies so we must improvise welcome back to our dinner party that was a clip from this Summer's highly anticipated new reality Hulu show it's called drag me to dinner creative out of what Hollywood's most beloved couples with us today Neil Patrick Harris and David Brooker where does one the mind how do you create this show I mean I can't even form the words here are you lying in bed and you wake up and go I know dinner party kind of I mean drag queens make everything better when you see a performance by them we both are fans of drag I did Hedwig And so I've been in drag some uh and we know our way around dinner parties and we thought I wrote a book called life is a party so I mean it makes sense drag queens cooking shows we love competition cooking shows but is it a real competition they do they are competing they are competing but it's not it's more of a mock you can't competition so they are actually cooking and they are throwing a dinner party but there is a lot of a lot of fixes and a lot of sort of TV magic that happens as well but it's intentional that it's comedic okay we know that people who watch drag content are smart and have like quick senses of humor and we know the people that watch the cooking competition shows have seen them before and they know how it works right so we wanted to do one that wasn't in like a send-up of all of those things so the categories are Decor food and drink design and decor and entertainment and overall Vibe we're not called judges we're called judgers because snap we gotta read Bianca Del Rio is one of the judgers you can see her there and uh each episode it's sort of like a little Pee-wee's Playhouse a little because I'm looking Between Two Ferns it's intentionally committed this is uh this was uh sort of a carnival episode Big Top big bottom is what it was called David did I say that you can say it now we had one called the whoring 20s oh which is that theme and what was that Decor Speak Easy Vibe yeah 1920s yeah a Tupperware party okay so we know that you all throw great parties um yourself let's take a look at one you had it's a really impromptu dinner and yet beautiful look at these plates very fun house Farm that's where we are we're at Fun House Farm here's the food whoa thank you pasta David does what they're called but I say steak pasta I like what that was a good dinner party I yeah that was me cooking a drag cream wasn't cooking you were doing the cooking to do how do you manage that because one of the challenges I have when I'm doing a dinner party is trying to entertain and do the cooking I I just I mess up every time it's it's not easy it's really not easy I mean having people help you having have a potluck the modern potluck and there's nothing wrong I'm all about that yeah but but it's it's hard to say like trying to get it all together I I sort of just excuse myself for a little bit and make sure that everything's ready and then I'm able to sit down and enjoy the party we have another guest for the dinner party the host of the show that you have dragged me to dinner Murray Hill now he's a comedian actor who's with entertaining fans for 30 years most recently as Amy Schumer's eccentric boss also named Murray in the hit comedy series Life and Beth please welcome to the party Murray Hill come on I forget it forget it oh my God oh my God Mary the move so tell me this the idea for this show when you saw the concept why did you know they're already calling it the most anticipated show of the summer they are okay I'm gonna Splash you with this one you know I posted live shows for you know most of my career about 25 years and it's always been a dream of mine since I was a little kid and I looked exactly the same as I do now except I had cheekbones all right and watch as Johnny Carson when I was a kid so when I got the call to host the show I was like I am there this is a big honor for me and it's literally a dream I mean you're in between royalty here I'm also in between two gay guys between two friends you said it you said it okay I like it I like a good uh game but I don't often play games on the show but look here if you had to pick which one to invite to dinner and you could only pick one that's easy all right I I know the cameras are rolling but I've got to ask a question who signs the chicks who makes the dinner well no I don't care about that but you're the producer right I'm the producer too uh I you know what they're such a beautiful they're such a beautiful American couple that I would like to have um both of them don't don't get it yeah you can't no Sophie's choice because that's what she's doing Timmy don't make me call you Tamron Tammy don't make you no you have to pick one because at the dinner party you know people play Truth or Dare they play those awkward games that you regret it is awkward it is so you have to pick one Murray kenifa uh well the way he's looking at me uh I'm gonna oh this is this is okay okay we're gonna go to a break when we come back has to determine which up will make the will it be Neil will it be David we will find out and more behind the scenes drag me to dinner after the break we're gonna let our guests decorate their own divorce cake I think that's like a good bee look at that everything bagel bites okay so you're going to want to separate the dough just like your marriage [Music] this pole is sticky I've seen them do this on TV shows that was a clip from the new reality show drag me to dinner starring Our Guest Neil Patrick Harris David burka and Murray Hill alongside 40 drag Stars competing to pull off some of the most over-the-top dinner parties imaginable but last we left commercial break awkward dinner break we were putting our dear friend Murray on the spot he had to decide which guest would make the cut you can only pick one David Burke or Patrick Harris um well I was briefed on commercial break by the police officer that's outside and um I would choose David oh okay that was a risky move risky move why David Cameron you're killing me today well David is the youngest cast member on the show and you know he he's just a little baby boy so I wanted to pick you went with youth yeah you know what he's a lot of fun gay people are usually a lot of fun and you know he why are you looking at me like that and he he put admiration I feel very close now that you picked me yeah well that was that wasn't the intention I was looking for but I'm excited okay well I think I think you picked David because of my Aunt Sue my my suit yeah my aunt is on the show sous chef yes your aunt Sue's Chef we have a photo of Aunt Sue sous chef sous chef yeah that's uh look David's David's Aunt Sue uh comes on at once per episode and wreaks havoc on the team that's that's doing uh worse but she looks familiar she does she looks it's very much family resemblance that's David in Drag and that's him look trying to look at his most beautiful that's his fishy drag right there you got curves that's for sure yeah I got a lot of the moves where did Aunt Sue come from you know there was this character I did a long time ago called Grandma Bonnie and I had that wig in that hat those glasses and we just thought it'd be fun to sort of play with the my my character in the show uh is sort of the expert the Tim Gunn that comes in and helps the girls uh finish their their dinner party their dinner party and so then the losing team that doesn't get the trivia question that Murray asked gets Aunt Sue to help and she does not do a good job helping it usually okay can I tell it ends in a mess this is like Carol Burnett meets I I'm trying to rap but when you went to the pitch meeting for this show what was the pitch it was It was kind of what we have just said to you like if you get two teams of drag queens together and ask them to slave over a hot stove in their full outfits and try and then figure out and prepare dinner parties that seems very watchable and let's be honest we live in a very strangely algorithmic and kind of divisive world right now and so we wanted to create we wanted to create content that was enjoyable and a positive representation of I love it I love it I love I love it I love it we want people just to have a laugh and a smile and a good time for 45 minutes forget about what's going on in the world and just enjoy I love it and so what's the prize what do they win oh it's huge it's maybe the best price in all of television Tammy tell her tell her they win the Glorious golden grater cheese grater it's a giant she's gold-plated cheese grater you
