hello uh Richard Criswell here um this is assignment task three uh for the unit uh operational Improvement um so it's been a bit of a journey um and I'd like to go through a few of things that uh I learned during this course um and you can just follow along with those slideshows um and basically I guess the first thing and the the thing that resonates with me the most is uh the learnings that we had around understanding the theory behind managing operational Improvement and there's some different parts to that first of all around operational Improvement so um that was talking about you know things such as uh understanding the fact that every organization uh whether it be from a paper manufacturer all the way to government services um it's really up to them how they Define it um for their own perspective uh for example you know it will depend on whether the uh organization or business is is concerned about you know the customer so if they're a customer Centric uh focused organization um whether it's resource um or whether they're more focused on profit um so that's uh a little bit about the operations management that we learned also talked about capacity management so again uh looking at ways that uh we can make sure that we for example in a service iny uh industry that we're meeting customer expectations so looking at things like buffers uh to ensure that the customer um or those uh processes are in place so that um we can meet that demand um because what you don't want to do is to let your customer down and very there's very few businesses that can operate at 100% um so that's that's about capacity management also we did a lot of work on technology advancement so digitalization um we looked at things such as industry 4.0 um and also the effects and opportunities from digitalization that were involved in that um [Music] um we also looked at uh managing change so change management it's a big industry um in itself um however managing change is all about you know looking at operational Improvement um also looking at the cycle so um not just this is an improvement process off we go it's about the implementation and measuring the success of that uh change um we also looked at um operational Improvement plans um specifically I looked at a specific business unit that I'm in charge of the uh enforcement team um and and drilling a little bit further down into into things such as kpis or key performance indicators so that's a start it's um you know uh a little bit about the theory on um managing operational uh improvements um also we talked about Supply chains as well which is really interesting um and obviously the longer they go uh the more the the prices increase uh along that supply chain and that's a pretty important concept I think um especially when you look at other aspects that we learn which is lean uh for example um really good process to look at um but yeah basically with that supply chain um we we talked about how essential that is to maintain an efficient operation um and again back to that bit of a cycle there where you monitor measure and you manage um that supply chain throughout the process again digitalization industry 4.0 was a big emphasis uh especially for the first assignment that we did we looked at how we could integrate that into um the unit that I'm uh in charge of um also we we looked at Theory between uh behind artificial intelligence um and when you look at things like that you look at cost versus benefit which is something you know government organization such as my own really need to focus in on um but coming with that there are some risks so workplace culture is something that um really needs to be considered when looking at digitalization industry 4.0 know for example you know staff they they'll need training uh on the new uh software or or uh systems digitalized uh systems that you put in place and also you need to be mindful of uh that any sort of change that goes on with an organization the staff need to be taken on that Journey because inevitably they think about the things that they lose rather than the things that they gain and that's a really important concept that I learned during this course um but also some of the other benefits in in digitalization obviously the data collection is a huge one that data can be used for a whole raft of things and I looked at my organization in regards to that and the opportunities are quite quite significant um also that customer relationship so everyone expects things to be faster and quicker and more efficient nowadays especially when it's uh in relation to that public purse so government organizations need to be really cognizant of how that they can be as efficient as possible but also make sure that any s sort of service industry that we maintaining that customer relationship okay so that's a little bit more um we also looked at operations and um process designs and and the simple fact that it all comes down to the strategy um so what do what do the changes mean for the organization also what did customers get out of it and and going back to the previous point about that customer relationship is uh just really important so business strategy and the risk as I mentioned before there with all these types of things there are risks involved but also there's also the risk of doing nothing as well so um during the course um I know I was I was going back a lot with my own business unit um analyzing things such as the risk involved in implementing it uh versus a risk of not implementing it um analyzing the timing that you'd Implement such uh some of these digitalization um changes and also the speed of um of those as well so they were all part um that we we learned during the journey now um obviously there was a lot more that we learned during the during the course but applying it was something that I really got a lot out of um and I'm just cognizant of the time here so I'll I'll get through this fairly quickly so digitalization advantages and how they can be applied to a business unit such as uh my team enforcement team um I focused in on that spu there um looked at forces of change so why do we need to implement things such as digitalization or other um processes um to increase our operational efficiency or Improvement um also looked at the integration of 4.0 into the team and how I could improve our organization our customers experience also looked at as I was mentioning big data and internet of things and something that I didn't know about before this course was blockchain which is quite interesting as well um also something that I'm uh really did take away from this was just sort of understanding some of the enablers and some of the barriers being government we do get sometimes caught up in the barriers but really focusing on those enablers is something that I've definitely uh taken on board and something that I'm already doing and using uh focusing on that also utilizing the concept of managing operation Improvement so how to use non-d digitalized techniques to manage operational Improvement it's all not to do with AI and Industry 4.0 you still have to look at the process procedures that've got in place um and that's something I really did get a lot out of during assignment to um looking at opportunities within msq and the uh specific business unit uh to explore those Solutions um whilst that whole process was going in reading a lot of information um researching different management philosophies um some of things that we did look at especially in my situation was um an agile approach um also it sort of goes hand inand a little bit with the lean and the kaisen approaches um and using those couple of different approaches in particular agile and kaisen um and applying those philosophies to the specific business unit and actually exploring the opportunities and the uh improvements that come with that um last couple of things so some key recommendations you know that I found during throughout the course especially for my business unit by building my knowledge and my awareness of the unit that I've been running for the last 5 years and it's amazing what you don't know um has enabled me to to look at it making insightful recommendations to improve the business unit and also the organization as a whole which is something that's just fantastic lastly did this course meet expectations for me well resounding yes um I'm able to understand examine operations management theories and apply them um I'm now able to assess my organization's operation systems and discuss improvements a lot better than I was able to evaluate digital operation strategies and apply them to my Organization for Mo uh able to compare and contrast the cycle Improvement for operational strategy and I've developed my skills and Analysis and critical thinking professional application say look I feel a lot better off uh than I did before I started a course which is a good thing um and just a big shout out to you Mo uh Mo for the for the efforts um I found your uh lectures really engaging and informative and uh thoroughly
