High School up there and looked pretty good last week until you know late in that ball game but he's got great legs year Brad Brad Brennon talk about uh Brent brenon I'll call his I'll call him by his brother's name a lot tonight uh Brent brenon talk about that dampier his legs really maybe his strength yeah he's he's an excellent dual threat quarterback and so the Lobos will be running left to right from our Vantage Point here and again Dan P quarterback he'll work out of the shotgun to open things up two receivers left two stacked to the right ball left hash mark running back in motion dampier looking to throw flushed out of the pocket rolling to the left now he'll run it out over the 25 to the 28 out of bounds into the Arizona bench so wild cats good downfield coverage there and no throw available that's the one thing that Arizona has the ability to do they can lock up and man coverage and just let their defense play freely and then we saw that on the first play there forced him out of the pocket dampier showed his legs on that play as well gain three so it'll be second down and seven damp out of the shotgun hand off going nowhere the wild cat stuff it for a loss nobody even close you can hear the crowd I mean Sanders got the hand off and he barely hung on to the football and Jacob Manu just blasted through loss back to the line of scrimmage the original line at the 25 that's that new aggression that Arizona has talked about Manu was coming down here from the snap of the ball he almost took the hand off in the back field Big Time play by Jacob Manu so RI Sanders loses three it's third down and 10 for the Lobos and dampier empty backfield now trying to get the Wildcats to jump they don't he'll step up now back again got three receivers left one to the right H back to the right low snap dampier picks it up now looking downfield throwing deep downfield and that ball is going to be knocked away and incomplete there is a flag down and we'll see which way this goes now boy that looked like good coverage to me I mean man man right down the the hash that's a bailout I thought there was a lot of contact either side Nick tril was the receiver oh man he bailed him out if they if if he Defense number 20 15yd penalty and forcing the previous SP automatic first down Maris Groves kibu it's one of the new Wildcats he's a Richard sopore out of Atlanta transfer from Louisville but well usually you allow some contact and it seems like both players were battling yeah that's one of the thing Dwayne Aina had focused on in Camp because KBW a lot of times in manto man cover she was holding a lot and he said you don't have to hold you're in good position and he was in excellent position that time but there he is he's W kind of yeah arm fighting with him automatic first down out to the 40 first and 10 Lobos at their own 40 no score opening drive for New Mexico D Pier will take the hand off and or take the snap and hand off out to about the 44 will go Eli Sanders Junior from Oceanside California another one of the many transfers for New Mexico the second most transfers in division one football this year he was at Iowa State a year ago yeah he looked really good in the first game and and that run right there was no different that was an excellent run up the middle second down and six for the Lobos at their own 44 yd line moving left to right damp out of the shotgun two receivers right one left H back right and Sanders to the right of dampier fakes the hand off fires under pressure downfield and overthrows his receivers and I think he had to get rid of that probably a little sooner that he wanted heavy pressure from the Wildcats so it's incomplete third down and six Arizona has lived in this back field and and damp has taken some hits he took a shot as he was letting that one go there I mean Arizona is really playing on the other side of the line of scrimmage and that's what coach Aina has talked about throughout Camp third and six for the Lobos at their own 44 fans turn up the volume dampier out of the gun two men wide right one left dampier rolling to the right looking to turn the corner fires the pass broken up incomplete and it'll be fourth down and there you go trayon stooks perfect timing to knock the ball away yeah this this secondary really plays together and trayon stooks is is the ring leader of that secondary he can play corner he can play safety he can play everything and and this is a guy that really dway Aina leans on in the secondary he's an excellent player problem spot for the Lobos last week against Montana State one of eight on third down now one of nine on the season and so they will punt it away here and back deep is Aaron Rodriguez averaging 412 last week on four punts senior out of New Hall California and the line of scrimmage is to 44 Wildcats going for the block but not picked up the punt is going to go over the 10 to the five and down to the one boy that was a great get there by the Lobos as Rodriguez he's considered one of the best punters in the Mountain West and showed why there oh man they got Arizona pin there Arizona's got to be careful down here um because New Mexico is a a high pressure team and I I guarantee you they're going to uh you're going to see some pressure down here so the Wildcats will have to start at their own two- yd line first down and 10 no Score first drive for the Wildcats tonight Noah faf at quarterback the Richard sophomore out of Huntington Beach California last season of course tremendous 2869 yards 25 touchdowns six interceptions completed 72% of his passes set records here and there set a great camp set to go cross be Merritt in the backfield quick snap quick throw and it's caught McMillan tried to break a tackle wrestles away gets a few extra yards he's out near the 14 yd line well that's a shot from no FIA to his favorite Target team matcon puts a ball on a rope to him looks like we got an injury on the field that's a lobo's down and injured so yeah McMillan doing exactly what he usually does Cam Watts the injured lobbo he's a senior out of Tulsa cornerback and so the training staff out to take a look clock stop with 1245 to go opening quarter no score in the football game so we can talk a little more about a T-Mac here and by the way that pass by Noah ffid that's all he only needed three yards tonight by the way to go over 3,000 career passing yards wow and he got it on his first play so it's first and 10 Arizona out to the 13 yd line but Tetro McMillan the junior out of Hawaii of course 90 catches last year and his last four games last year I mean my goodness 38 catches 649 yards and three touchdowns and on a lot of preseason All America lists and yeah you know why he's a special player I mean he's a Difference Maker he's a guy that when when everything breaks down Noah always can look in that direction and pretty much know that you know what if I throw it it's a good chance that he's going to come down with it all right gain of 11 and a first down for the wild cats at their own 13 yd line and so wats the injured Lobo walking off the field under his own power and now the Wildcats will set it up with two receivers right they'll play a lot of two tight ends as they are here and crossy Meritt in the back field and he'll get his first hand off big hole right side breaks a 20 25 breaks another tackle out to the 30 and a first down for Arizona so there you go jakori crosy Meritt grew up in Montgomery Alabama and boy is he something to watch and he's got power at 511 208 yeah he's exciting he's done that all Camp um I've been really impressed with his ability um to make reads in the hole in his acceleration he's a complete package 18 yards the pickup first down Arizona at its own 30 cats on their opening drive of the season and fait out of the shotgun will take the snap back to throw Here Comes The Rush steps up in the pocket rolling right fire on the got a man open McMillan nobody's going to catch him 302 15 10 five touchdown Arizona that's what happens when you Blitz Noah for he finds teamm naked in the middle of the field drops a dime on him and he just walks into the end zone Big Time play by Arizona and Arizona goes up 70 H how do you lose track of number four that's my question Lamont I have no idea that's the guy you should have three people covering but for some reason he was by himself so yeah 69 yards and the Wildcats lead at six to nothing Loop in for the extra point two big plays three on the drive and the Wildcats out to an early lead and Tyler Loop the outstanding senior kicker puts it up and puts it through he's never missed an extra point and with 1145 to go in the opening quarter the Wildcats strike quickly on their opening drive they leaded 7 to nothing and we're back in a moment this is Wildcat football from Arizona Sports Enterprises zero Z NADA now with ro taxes and fees included plus save up to $115,000 off a new GMC SI NADA at Royal Buick GMC in the Tucson Auto Mall or Royal tucson.com [Music] Drive summ brought to you by Jack for your tyan autoare since 1960 here to get you there well this is one to remember three plays 98 yards in a minute and 14 seconds 69 yards from FID to McMillan that is now the uh ties faf for the longest pass play he's had in his Arizona career 69 yards and that is now the longest catch for Teto McMillan previous 57 that one goes for 69 and the touchdown the wild cats lead it 7 to nothing so you know you trapped at your own t lont and uh you get a a nice play on first down for a first then you get a big run by crossy Meritt and then you just open it up and I'll I'll say it again and this is for the benefit of the next 11 opponents know where number four is on the field well don't play a manto man that's the other advice I mean the fact that he was manto man the defensive back tried to press him and he fell down and and then there was no one else there so but what what uh the calculation that that U New Mexico had was that they were going to Blitz and they thought the Blitz the pressure was going to get there and and uh Noah was able to play in the pocket avoid the pressure step up and deliver a strike and that's what he does Noah is very comfortable in the pocket and so yeah he's a guy you don't necessarily want to Blitz Drive summary again brought to you by Jack fer Ty in Auto Care since 1960 here to get you there seven nothing Wildcats and Tyler Loop will kick off here and the Lobos will get another crack at it with 11:45 to go in the opening quarter wildcat's back here next Saturday night 7:00 against New Mexico The Lumberjacks opening there season with an easy win over Lincoln we'll tell you more about that later for the Lobos mention they lost at home last week they looked like they had pretty good control of that game at Halftime but gave up 214th quarter points to Montana State they really did have control of the game I thought it was all but over they were up by I think 17 at the half kick off by loop again over the in line and so the Lobos will start at their own 25 first down and 10 their opening drive tonight got them thanks to the pass interference got them some yardage out to their own 44 now they'll start again at their own 2 first down and 10 damper 0 for two passing on that first drive the Wildcats again didn't give him much time at all they really didn't they were playing in the back field and that's really what the goal of of this new defense is to play on their side of the line of scrimmage right out of the shotgun dampier will take the snap hand off Sanders and he's met immediately and just pushed back El like Sanders nowhere to go loss of one on the play and well that front line again this is a whole new look front line for the Wildcats and yeah that looked pretty good I'll tell you that Trey Smith the Richard JR out of Mesa transfer in fact he was all Mountain West last year for San Jose State second down on 11 loss of one de Pier from the shotgun weong in motion play fake rolling right he'll throw he's got a man open out to the 30 35 to the 40 to Midfield and into Arizona territory all the way down to the 44 yd line so Sanders out of the back field was wide open and danamp Pier rolling out and spotted him and Sanders did the rest yeah Arizona was in manto man coverage that time and and someone blew an assignment that time Sanders was wide open up the sideline 31 yards first down Lobos will go in a hurry and dampier will keep it to the right got a hole to the 40 down to the 35 and out of bounds near the 32 so now a couple big plays for the Lobos and they get their offense rolling yeah they're taking advantage of Arizona's aggression um playing using counteraction trying to get Arizona running in One Direction and then using the legs of the quarterback damp here you can see his athleticism already he's a dynamic player and here's the line change for the Wildcats four new defensive linemen come in and this is something they're going to use we saw it last year and this staff has has kept that with the added depth there on the defensive line so first and 10 Lobos at their own 33 dampier will hand off and Sanders Dives inside the 30 to the 29 and about four for Eli Sanders Chandler High School by the way uh where he played he grew up in Oceanside California but moved up to the valley went to Chandler High School won a state championship there yeah we've got some Chandler players on our team as well Isaiah Giants who's in the game now also played at Chandler Cario Davis that last tackle for the wild cats second down and six for the Lobos damp Pier from the gun short drop swing it out in the flat and caught there and then just drilled is Javin Jacobs into the sideline that that had to hurt that tario came downhill on him pretty hard it really stuck him that was great defense by Arizona Javin Jacobs another Chandler product by the way although he went to Saro High School up in in Scottdale and a transfer from ASU where he played a couple of Seasons so no gain on well they give him a yard on the play so third down and five now for New Mexico right about its own 27 yard line Daner takes the snap back and flags down they'll blow it dead and we'll see what transpired here clock stop with 913 to go opening quarter 7 nothing Arizona and waiting previous play is under further review okay for what uh could it be targeting ah I don't think it was from tario because tario hit him pretty hug upright we I'm just guessing here because I I I don't know what else they might be looking for yeah when they say play Under review no you're right that's usually what they're looking for but I thought he kind of I thought he was upright when he hit him so okay well our referee tonight is Steven Baron and we hope we don't hear Too Much from him tonight now see the the head is down the helmet to helmet was that a helmet to helmet hit yeah oh boy so did he did did I can't see the well they they've stopped it up on the video board and they're not showing anything else on the monitor up here so it's kind of hard to tell right now but you can see taro's head is down yeah it is and did he hit him with the crown of his helmet he did he's he's out of the game yeah and that will be that be AIG that's a huge loss all right here's the ruling after review there is no foul for targeting third down all right well again the replay doesn't our replays don't always tell the story yeah true and so the replay guys down the hall I rode up on the elevator with them today and um I will say this they are dressed very nicely and that's their job is to to find the the best replay so no harm no foul and here we go again at third down and five for New Mexico at the Arizona 27 damp out of the shotgun two receivers left one right tied left damper straight back to throw has some time fires towards the end zone and overthrows his intended receiver double coverage down there and we got a flag back at the line of scrimmage so hold everything well I notice Trey Trey uh Smith's helmet was off that was great coverage downfield by the way double coverage yeah and dampier was under so much pressure TI Tai yalele broke through the line and immediately and had him on his back foot when he was throwing the ball personal foul hands to the face offense number 76 that 15yd penalty will be in forced number three lost his helmet as a result of that foul he is eligible to stay in the game so Trey Smith stays in the game but the penalty on New Mexico will back them up that's a major penalty by the way so it goes back all the way to the 40 well right between the 42 and 43 yeah 853 to go opening quarter big thing about that is that pushes him out of field goal range if Arizona can can hold here I mean this is third down and we'll call it 20 here for New Mexico dampier out of the gun two men stacked right one left they go with that H back to the left and P long snap count trying to get the wild cats to jump they don't back to throw steps up has time throws as he's hit downfield and it is caught what a spectacular catch down at the 12 yd line for Luke weong my goodness oh my word right between two wild cats What A Catch he was I mean there was there was a safety over the top of him damp was getting hit as he was throwing it and he just that's just an incredible catch stukes and Malden AO sandwiched him but Luke weong the junior out of Rio Rancho New Mexico what a catch that really was that was a spectacular catch so first down Lobos at the Arizona 12 trailing here s to nothing that was a 31 yd play to weong who you know was the New Mexico high school player of the year Mexico has called their first time out of the half All Right Time Out New Mexico he was the New Mexico high school player of the year back in 2021 and and then last year got hurt played only four games six catches last week but boy that was spectacular there all right we'll take a timeout here 818 to go in the first quarter cats seven lobos's nothing this is Wildcat football from Arizona Sports Enterprises The Window Depot has everything you need to here in the red zone and a first down at the Arizona 12 yd line while we've got a moment let's pause 10 seconds for station identification this is Wildcat football from Arizona Sports Enterprises culus Media Station you're listening to the flagship of Arizona Wildcats Athletics this is Wildcats Radio 1290 Brian Jeff Lamont love it here at Arizona Stadium opening game of the 2024 season just a lot of Buzz around the Community could hardly wait to get here to see this one tonight Brent Brennan new coaching staff and uh they've really I think energized the community yeah rightfully so well the Lobos here have energized their fans who made the trip over along with the the Lobo band as the big pass play of 31 yards um dampo weong puts him in great shape with the Arizona 12 first down and 10 Danier now after he missed his first two has now hit his last three passes he's been impressive he's been under pressure all night long and and he's he stayed in there and and hasn't really flinched and I mean he's I mean delivered some passes while he was getting hit inaccurately so they break the Huddle now dampier out of the shotgun he's got Sanders to his left two receivers left one to the right you go with that HB to the left L snap D here picks it up looking left right now he's going to run it up the middle and he's going to be gang tackled shy of the 10 he might have gotten a yard out of the play and lucky at that so again excellent coverage there uh nothing open left or right so he tucked it and look to run but nothing there you saw chuay and he he stopped on a on a dime when he saw that that's a massive human being miloto is uh 65 280 yeah so second and 11 dampier takes the snap pump fake fires over the middle flag down Cod is made but they're going to blow it dead the play apparently the flag came before the snap we'll see which way this goes but Sean Miller was the guy that caught the ball and was down to the five y start offense number 76 5yd penalty second down that's why yeah so Wallace Bambu who's their right tackle Junior out of Garland Texas so his missq there and they'll back him up now to the 16 second down need about 14 yards vampier shotgun rolling right throwing on the Run got a man open it's caught at the goal line and it's TouchDown for New Mexico wow again just a a heck of a catch and that's a y song again he made that 31 yard catch which looked almost impossible and now this one yeah that's a big time play i d Pier has been been really good uh very accurate um Gunner Maldonado was in position had an opportunity but just could he got out battle for the ball and weisson comes down with it that was a great Drive uh by New Mexico they got the big play the 31 yd play and then with stod that that penalty and so now extra point up coming now they are reviewing the touchdown as they always do and he did catch it right at the goal line but the the official who straddles the goal line immediately called it a touchdown yeah and so they're just waiting to hear from the replay booth that they need to take a closer look all touchdowns are replayed in the booth it does look like it was close to not being not being a touchdown but okay I the fact that they haven't stopped anything I no they went ahead they counted it so here we go so not for the extra point now dwiki Luke DZ wikii out of Shelby Township Michigan had all four of his PS last week Loo's looking to tie it up here with 723 to go in the opening quarter kick is up and the kick is good and so we are all even now 77 with 723 to go in the first quarter Hughes Federal Credit Union home of the official Arizona Athletics debit cards whether you're buying your first car or purchasing a new home Hughes is here to help you take it further visit hughesfcu.org further to learn why Arizona fans choose Hughes ensured by ncua 8 plays 75 yds 4 4 minutes and 22 seconds and the pass from dampier to weong for the touchdown and Lobos have tied it up now at seven yeah they're doing everything that I saw them do last week I mean they you saw them make some big plays offensively and and dampier creates a lot with his legs and he really makes it difficult on the defense because he can really extend plays when seems like he's under pressure um you know and there's always that threat of his run running the ball so you have to you can't is you know sell out Jeremiah Jeremiah Patterson the Deep man for the wild kits we mentioned early he's one of the wildcat's new wide receivers he'll return some kicks and again watching him in practice an electric player and I think we're going to see a lot of him as the season goes on for sure so here's the kickoff by Stein camp and Patterson about Midway in the end zone will let it go over his hands and through the end zone for a touch back and so the Wildcats will start at their own 25 yd line now first down and 10 well their first drive they were buried deep that didn't matter they went 98 yds so this almost looks like a luxury now starting your own 25 yeah now Noah faf two for two for 80 yards on that opening drive and crossy Merritt 18 yards on his one carry the Wildcats 98 yards on their opening drive it's taking New Mexico two positions to get to 99 yards so the cats out moving right to left here in the opening quarter two receivers right one left and faf out of the shotgun crosy Mara to his right in the backfield Noah straight back to throw deep drop looking for the screen throws it and it's caught in the flat out to the 25 to the 30 and just shy of the first down goes Roski Merritt he'll gain about eight maybe nine on the play well they they they got the Lobos to bite on it and that paid off yeah they set up the screen nice that time and that's really what you want to do if you if you're playing a team that's coming with a lot of pressure screen is a way to slow down that pass rush and correct I have to correct myself there it was quy connley who made the catch and he's out of Fresno Senor out of Fresno transfer from San Jose State so he gets the eight yards and now the handoff coming to the left side weaving his way and they blow that one down oh my gosh he was gone yeah and that was Conley again and yeah he had nothing but Turf ahead of him what happened he was gone no he was untouched going through that hole Yeah so what do we got here for targeting oh jeez okay we're going back look at targeting again from the previous play so I didn't now that first one you kind of thought something might have been there this one I I have no clue so the catch out there by Conley all right he's downfield stumbles a bit Dives and then a player comes in from the left oh that is targeting and hit him on the side of the helmet so that's targeting yeah so that very well could be that looks like the definition right there he dropped his head and hit him in his helmet Jaden Wilson the sophomore out of El Paso who was one of their top defensive players and that's who they're looking at right now let see if indeed there's targeting 644 to go in the first quarter here in Tucson 77 our score of course this is the first big day of uh college football and how about Georgia and Clemson today now I know the Bulldogs are ranked number one and you know one of the top teams in the country again uh the game was in Atlanta on a neutral field quote unquote but the Clemson Tigers ranked 14th and they're usually pretty good they got drilled today 34-3 yeah they got dominated uh not a lot of surprises Penn State B West Virginia uh 34-2 Texas blank Colorado State 52 nothing Ohio State 52 akan 6 uh some teams out of the Big 12 Iowa State over North Dakota 21-3 Cincinnati B talson 38-20 uh TCU over Stanford that was a game last night at Stanford 34-27 and also Thursday night might mention cam Rising back for the Utah Utes and yeah he's back five touchdown passes he didn't even play the whole game 49 nothing Utah beat Southern Utah yeah like he he makes Utah a completely different team when he's at the when he's at the helm he is like one of the best trigger men in the country um and when he's healthy like I said there's not a quarterback you know much better than him he he's got a lot of experience been to multiple rose balls I mean he's just he's a big time player Utah pick to win the Big 12 this year and of course the Wildcats will visit the youths and you know it's not going to always happen every year but you know the great thing about moving to the Big 12 along with Colorado Utah and Arizona state is that you do still have some familiar foes out there y that you're going to see uh year in and year out and so we'll see Arizona State at the end of the season of course Colorado will visit Tucson and will be in Salt Lake City take on the yous here's the call it was determined there was targeting by number 24 of the defense that 15yd penalty will be added to the end of the Run automatic first down number 24 is disqualified that's a tough blow Jaden Wilson and he had seven tackles last week in a sack against Montana State he's a linebacker and that hurts for the Lobos yeah he's our best linebacker so that's that's a big loss so with the penalty it takes it out now to the Arizona 48 first and 10 for the Wildcats there 77 gam 644 to go in the opening quarter and ffo who three or three through the air will'll take it out of the shotgun receivers either side short drop now spinning away to his left sets up as time deep downfield and the ball is caught down at the 25 yd line first down Arizona keep Ian Bernett the tight end who had a marvelous training camp holds it in big play again that's the new Kean Bernett right now he's just a much more fluid athlete after this camp and and all throughout Camp he's gotten down the field and gotten behind the defense and that was a spectacular catch by him that was beautiful Bernett 66 248 he he runs pretty good too yeah he does 27 yards on the play first down wild cats at their Lobo 25 tie game at seven cat scored on their opening drive have the ball now on their second and here's the snap faf throws it out on the right flag caught by Patterson breaks a tackle inside the 20 spins away again and Tackle about the 17 yd line there's your first look at Jeremiah Patterson yeah you make the F what I always say great players make the first guy Miss and he made that he made that guy whiff I mean incredible spin you can't tackle him in a foam Booth gain of eight on the play second down and two for the Wildcats at the Lobo 17 yd line and they'll play a lot of tight ends by the way Sam Olen coming in transfer from UNLV also San Jose State in fact I checked that just San Jose State he another good player and so the Wildcats second down and two at the Lobo 17 faf gun takes the snap firing Corner The End Zone caught by mcbill and breaks away at the five he's in the end zone touchdown Arizona second one tonight for T-Mac that's a a great job T-Mac just coming back to the ball um and his catch radius is what's so amazing about him he reached out snatched that ball I mean his hands are like fly paper grabs the ball steps into the end zone untouched Big Time play by TM and by the way at 65212 he's kind of strong too he's strong he's he's pretty strong he's gained a lot of weight since he's gotten here and it's all good it's all muscle so big time play by T-Mac yeah Tetro McMillan the junior out of Hawaii remember that great game he had up at ASU last season 11 catches 266 yds extra point good by Loop and the wild cats regain the lead with 56 to go opening quarter 14-7 to you by Jack fer Ty and Autocare since 1960 here to get you there four play 75 yards in 2 minutes and 17 seconds and so the Wildcats two scoring drives have gone right about a combined three and a half minutes right now final 17 yards from faf to McMillan uh no one's now six of six for 140 yards tonight in two touchdowns and McMillan three catches 97 yards and two touchdowns that's not a bad start on no no it looks really comfortable back there and that's not what you want you don't want him sitting in the in the pocket surveying the field and just throwing darts because that is what he's doing right now um very accurate and he's just throwing the ball all over the yard yeah keep in mind 72% completion last season it it was it was one of the best in in school history let's put it that way yeah and consider also that he was not the starting quarterback when it opened that was Jaden Delora and he came in in that Stanford game after Delora got hurt and then a couple games later started the streak of seven straight wins Where the wild cats sit right now entering this season yeah he's he's yeah he's good well here's another way this is the the 10th straight start now for Noah ffid and in those 10 starts he has thrown 26 touchdowns to only six interceptions that's pretty good that's pretty efficient that's the type of efficiency you like to see and I bet you he's he could lost sleep over every single pick he threw because that's the way he is we song The Deep man for New Mexico here on the kickoff by Loop and U Tyler does not allow many returns another guy that probably deserves more attention than he's received thus far in the preseason when you take a look at his his career at Arizona here's the kick off and we's going to let that one sail over his head and so the Lobos will start at their their own 25 yd line first down and 10 all right well you know New Mexico on the opening drive didn't get much going second Drive they did and uh yeah 75 yard Drive they found something in that second drive by Going Up Tempo um showing Arizona a lot of different formations they they were sharp they really put the pressure on Arizona's defense so we'll see if what type of adjustments Arizona makes uh to deal with this Tempo that New Mexico's thrown at them Deon dampier the quarterback 46 for 79 yards in a touchdown tonight on first down to 10 low snap picks it up in a quick handoff and they're lucky to get yardage out of that boy that play almost blew up in their face as uh it was the the end around in damp here it was a low snap he picked it up and was fortunate to get the handoff clean for about two yards so it'll be second down and eight two receivers left one to the right short side of the field they put their tight end in motion from right to left now may be checking off dampier up to the line now steps back again Sanders to his right in the back field dampier will take the snap short drop fires the pass over the middle and it's caught out near the 40 yd line and there's weong again and he has been the show tonight for the Lobos why is a big time player I mean this guy has got some incredible hands made nothing but acrobatic catches all night long and he finds ways to get open he's a good player Mark it out to the 30 39 yd line 12 yds on that play first down and 10 Lobos they're trailing 14 to7 with four minutes to go in the opening quarter Danier from the shotgun Man in Motion play fake dampier to throw steps up has time throws downfield caught again at the Arizona 40 yd line for a first down it's we again well yeah why not weong somebody needs to cover him because he's tearing Arizona up right now take it down to the 39 so first and 10 Lobos going in a hurry here now at the Arizona 39 yd line trailing by seven dampier out of the gun hand off or keeps it right throws on the Run there's weong was he inbounds yes he was for another first down at the Arizona 26 wow this is the Yong show right now Arizona's got to they got to figure out something with this guy cuz he's he's open I had six catches for 95 yards last week against Montana State averaged 16 yards a catch and he's showing why right now again played only four games last year due to injury that was an RPO and he he he he came open 13 yds first down at the Arizona 26 dampier low snap again picks it up now he's going to run it got some room Dodges the man at the 20 coming near side to the 15 and knock down inside the 15 they'll mark it at the Arizona 13 first down New Mexico well you know dway Aina first thing he talked about this week when the Lobos came up dampier with and he didn't talk about his his passing he said it's his legs were worried about the most oh that's what's scary yeah because when plays break down like that and you don't you get out of your pass Lanes he's going to take off because he knows he can get 10 15 yards well he gained 13 there that's it first down New Mexico at the Arizona 13 lobo's down by seven in the Red Zone danir will take the snap hand off to Sanders looking for a hole not much there might have gotten a yard to the 12 so just the the straight handoffs tonight for New Mexico if you look at their rushing yards I mean Sanders that's his fifth carry for four yards yeah Jacobs one for two but Dan Pier's doing everything else yeah they yeah you're right right now they got chubba Maya in there I noticed when he's in there that middle the the middle is just being stuffed I mean he just blows up the middle he's kind of a game Rec there weighs in at 349 lbs hard to get around that y here's the snap dampier looking to throw looking to run now flushed out of the pocket rolling back to the left now being chased On The Run he's down to the 15 to the 10 pump fake and out of bounds around the 5 yard line so dampier again showing his legs there that play was to the right nothing open so he circled around got chased by Chase Kennedy I don't know how they didn't call holding on that Chase Kennedy he was Bare hugging Chase Kennedy when he was trying to when he got around the corner but the ref wasn't watching cuz that was holding so out of Bounds at the six they still need three yards for the first down on third down definitely in field goal territory minute 10 to go in the opening quarter the Lobos here like to get this game even now dampier under center for the first time tonight two-man backfield dampier to throw in the flat it's caught it's a touchdown boy that was an excellent play call and the way had that kind of dialed up nari Rogers the junior out of Virginia beats Virginia makes the catch and the touchdown and the lobo's an extra point away from tying it up yeah they got Arizona on their heels right now and what they're doing is they're they're throwing a lot of formations at Arizona and they're doing it with Tempo and so you really don't the the defense doesn't have a chance to to you know diagnose what's in front of them and they're snapping the ball quickly and sneaking guys out and it's it's an excellent scheme right now now that New Mexico's running extra point is up and it is good by driz wikii and we are even now at 14 with 58 seconds left here in the opening quarter eight plays 75 yds in 4 minutes and 8 seconds and Rogers will end up with the touchdown on the 6-y pass play from dampier and now he's thrown for two touchdowns tonight and we're all even up thank you to right Right Way heating and cooling for being tonight's game sponsor do not settle for anything less than the best call now and get it done the right way all right are we going to have a shootout tonight they used to play for the they used to play for the Kit Carson rifle which was retired some time ago for obvious reasons yeah so could we have a shootout tonight well we're in one right now I mean this looks like the definition of it I don't know we'll see which team makes a first stop I mean Arizona looked pretty good defensively early on but they've got some Playmakers on this New Mexico team and and Arizona's got to figure out a way to slow them down I think right now it's just that you know they're throwing some stuff at Arizona that they haven't seen and this is what happens when you play a team that you you know haven't played before so yeah they're looking good and also keep in mind we talked about the balance here Arizona first game New Mexico they played a game and even though they lost that game you can see it in their body language they look sharp too they've come out and they've executed on offense Stein Camp to kickoff and this one might be returnable Patterson Yard deep is going to bring it out out to 10 to the 15 got a hole out to the 20 and stops short just oh just over the 25 out to the 26 he was this close if he he almost got through that level if he broke through that level there hit was nothing but green grass there well a little risky take the catch in the end zone but again I think you're going to see that's why we've been talking about Jeremiah Patterson because I think you're going to see a lot of that this season he he's quick you can see it so first down wild cats at their own 26 in a 14-all game less than a minute to go in the first quarter Noah faf so far 6 to6 140 yds two touchdowns working out of the shotgun white outs left and right wild and he will take the snap hand off inside nothing first time New Mexico has been able to really do some damage in there on a simple hand off yeah they just came with more guys than Arizona had blockers they they Blitz their safety right down the middle and they Blitz their uh their linebacker and uh somebody came free so crossy Meritt first time he's uh been stopped for a loss it is a loss of three it's second down and 13 croski Meritt lined up to the left now of faid and short drop Noah throws it out right side it's caught that'll get him back probably to the original line of scrimmage and that's lonus Craig with his first catch of the Season just a quick out and that's one one of the things that New Mexico showed on film last week is that they play a lot of soft coverage they play man but they play back and so they'll give you the underneath stuff they'll give you five yards no so really just you know just back to the line of scrimmage and that was it y so now a big third down in 13 faid surveying the defense 14 seconds left in the quarter Noah will take the snap back back to throws got some time waiting and fires over the middle and it's caught first down out to the 40 yd line and Out near the 45 goes guess who Tetra McMillan finding open space in the middle of the field another first down yeah Noah faf is very comfortable in the pocket does not panic they blissed everybody that time but Arizona did a nice job picking it up and Noah just stayed in the pocket stepped up a little bit delivered a strike right across the middle for a first down that will end the first quarter here in Tucson after one Arizona 14 New Mexico 14 this is Wildcat football from Arizona Sports Enterprises K's life is cold logger cold filtered and cold packaged for a smoother finish it's got that crisp right we start the second quarter here in Tucson tied up at 14 and the last play of the first quarter another big one 24 yards from Noah ffid to Teta McMillan ffid now seven of eight through the air for 164 yards and 121 of those to T-Mac and uh two touchdowns between those two guys yeah and the wild cats have a first down at the Lobo 46 yd line now moving left to right here in the second quarter on opening night here at Arizona stadium and it's a white out tonight the Zona Zoo all got their uh their t-shirts and again if you joined us late the wild cats wearing white that was not the original plan tonight but the Lobos didn't get all their their Road uniforms shipped in and so the Wildcats wearing white tonight and the Lobos going with their cherry red tops and silver pants and helmet turned out to be a beautiful night it was 89° at kickoff tonight had a nice rain shower maybe that was actually a nice rain shower late this afternoon as long as you were prepared for it I wasn't cool I got caught in it when I was walking to meet you earlier well well sorry about that it's all good you know like you know you played football and Southern California and Arizona you're just not used to the rain right yeah this uh this warm weather is softened to be yeah and by the way and I I've been telling this a lot to people that this schedule for the wild cats this year has Lamont love it written all over it because we're not we probably won't play a single cold weather game this season all right that's music to my ears we go to Kansas State in September yes all right and then you look at you know going to Utah twice and it's not going to be that cold there and Central Florida oh yeah Texas come on you're right but I don't like humidity but that's another story all right yeah well pack the jacket just in case you never know I don't want any excuses here all right here we go first down 10 arizonas we start the second quarter Noah faid at quarterback McMillan will come wide right and again as Lamont has mentioned they are single coverage on McMillan tonight and it has not paid off for the Lobos no well pa is going to work out of an empty set here or check that he's going to go under centered tonight for the first time and take the snap play fake back to throw Here Comes The Rush he's in trouble and he just throws it away up in the air and it goes incomplete now no Flags I tell you what that was dangerous there the officials are talking it over here the ball didn't get back to the line of scrimmage was he outside the pocket they may they may be grounding they're talking themselves into it I can see yeah did they throw the flag no no flag throw the flag all right so say he got out of the pocket all right didn't catch all of that but I think that was basically the ruling there yeah so second down and 10 Arizona that's a good job of Noah too recognizing that he didn't have anything they they came basically with an allout Blitz um that time and had one high safety and everyone came and they just had more rushers than there only had blockers so second and 10 from the 46 and the hand off to the right side trying to turn the corner is Conley and he's busted out of bounds after a very short gain and the Lobos defense now starting to crank it up a bit yeah they got Arizona in another third and long situation and again you know they're going to come with pressure so third down nine for Arizona wild cat so far tonight on third down they've only needed one attempt and they converted that McMillan wide left Patterson in the slot left two men to the right including the tight end Bernett and F working out of the shotgun calling to his right in the backfield here's the snap from the right hash back is faf time to throw fires near side and it's knocked away incomplete intended for Bernett and nice coverage down there for New Mexico by Paula Gates that's Noah po Gates Senior out of Gilbert by the way yeah breaks up the pass it'll be fourth down first punt tonight for the Wildcats yeah this this the first time that New Mexico really flexed on the def on the defensive side of the ball got Arizona in a bad situation and they beat him true freshman Michael Salgado Medina doing the puning duties for the wild CS he at a mission vijo High School great kicking career there both as a punter and a place kicker and he gets the boot off line drive down near the five that's where it's caught and immediately out of bounds around the seven and so so that hung up there just enough and the Lobos will have their worst starting position of the night to take over here in a 14-14 game that was a little bit scary on that punt it almost got blocked but he got it off so they'll mark it at the seven that was a 48 yd punt for the freshman and I know the coaches have talked about they love what this kid's going to do and think about the future I he he's got a chance next year when when Loop moves on that uh he could do both for the wild cats both Punt and play kick that's difficult so here we go dampier eight of 10 through the air 132 yds two touchdowns he's also rushed for a teami 35 he'll take the snap looking right throws as he's hit and it's caught out into the 15 yd line that'll be short of the first down but again they get out of some trouble there and that k made out there by Ryan Davis the senior from Roswell so it'll be second down and five maybe closer to Second we'll call it second and four here after a gain of six Ryan Davis Senior from Roswell transfer in from UAB in motion weong from left to right dampier will take the snap rolling to the right looking downfield being chased and he's going to be sacked he throws the ball he just got rid of it incomplete wow that was a magical act there for Daner to get rid of the ball well there two or three wild cats there ready to pull him down he got rid of it yeah that was a big time play because um you know the number one one of the first things you have to learn how to do is a quarterback is not take sacks and he was sacked somehow he got that off Trey I say Trey Smith and Genesis Smith no relation were were there to bring him down but danamp Pier got rid of the ball that's a nice adjustment by Arizona CU they showed that play earlier and and they got you know a nice gain on that time Arizona reacted better so third down and four now and the zono turns up the volume dampier out of the shotgun weong in motion back to throw there's the throw as he's hit downfield that's going to be over throwing incomplete it'll be fourth down again the Wildcats pressure damp here had to get rid of that maybe a split second too soon and PID for it that's exactly right that pressure got to him and he had to throw the ball well before he wanted to and it was Jacob Manu bearing down on him and he just had to throw it a smidge too early and there was no one there so fourth down now for New Mexico from their own 13 yd line and now they've got an excellent punter as well and Aaron Rodriguez and in order here not to you know you're going to flip the field here but Wildcats have a chance to get some pretty good field position you can see both teams have made some adjustments defensively cuz it looked like the first two series that no one can stop anybody but now all of a sudden both teams have flexed their muscles Jack lell back to receive for the Wildcats here's the kick by Rodriguez and they're going to blow a dead flag is down they take too much time I don't know delay of game yep offense 5yd penalty fourth down yeah let I say that's not what you want to do in that situation nope you were at your own your own 13 now you're going to be inside the 10 here yeah and push Rodriguez back maybe into the end zone we'll see where they they line it up at the eight yeah he's got a punt out of the end zone now let's see if if Jack Latrell can can do something oh he you maybe have an opportunity here so Lal right at about Midfield snap to Rodriguez gets the kick off and just barely LOL will take it at the lowo 45 down to the 40 and gets near the 37 yd line so boy that penalty hurt yeah short fi for Arizona nice job of latro filling that ball too because he ran he ran forward to go get it a lot of times when they say if you have to run like that to get it to Let It Go but he he did a nice job of fielding and getting some extra field position for Arizona flip the field really quickly there wild cats will take over at the Lobo 38 when we come back 1316 to go second half second quarter here at Arizona Stadium Wildcats 14 New Mexico 14 this way and there's a packrat in our garage okay I'll call University termite and Pest Control today we'll get rid of all of them okay honey thank you University termite and Pest Control luckily owned find them online at bepest [Music] free.com well great field position to start this drive for the Wildcats at the Lobo 38 yd line first and 10 Arizona 14 New Mexico 14 the wild cats and the total yardage in this game almost dead even Wildcats 179 Lobos 180 and passing nage Arizona leading there 164 to 138 the cats have only rushed for 15 yards so far in this ball game New Mexico's got 42 yards rushing and almost all of that from you Deon damp here their quarterback so and we you know that was one of the question question marks I think coming into the season the the loss of Jonah Coleman DJ WIlliams Michael Wy how could the Wildcats make up for it I mean it's early yeah and you like the look that you've seen in in Camp from crossy Merritt and Conley and of course Speedy Luke and and others running the football but you know Bren Brennan would like to see a little more yeah from that I I agree I don't think they've tried very much either they only had how many carries have they had this this game so far I think maybe three or four well total carries rushes tonight they've rushed three times yeah so good point yeah they haven't pushed the issue okay I say crossy Meritt in the back field and Noah FF under Center he's got two white outs to the right tight end left and ffid will hand off broken Tackle by croski Meritt and then twists his way down to the 36 yd line so a gain of two but give the Lobos credit I mean they're playing the Run T they really are and what they're doing is they're a lot of their athletes to the ball you their safeties are really involved this is where I think Arizona may be able to hurt them they need to you know line up in a run formation an obvious run formation play action and throw over the top because their safeties are coming downhill like Fast um to stop the run gab Lopez and Noah ainger combined on that tackle ainger the the cite graduate so you know how that matches up snap faf looking looking looking firing Down The Far Side got a man oh open is a caught in bounds no he's out of bounds INE so boy a well thrown ball there was no doubt about that and crosy Merritt made the catch but he came down out of bounds yeah he caught crosy Meritt on a wheel route of the back fi you can see he's got beautiful hands oh wait a minute now how close is that Lamont let's look we got to look at it again was that foot it was very close to the line are they going to check it boy I well he thinks he got it we want to see here oh he pretty close not stopping play oh man third down in eight and now it won't matter so fita to throw pump fake over the middle and it's incomplete intended for McMillan down at the 25 yd line for MCM inom so now you got an interesting spot here you're it's fourth down and eight at the lobbo 36 yd line I mean the hted here and just try and pin him deep oh he can make a field goal from here oh okay yeah he he that's this is well within his range all right all right you're very confident I like that I've seen him do it that's why you see how they came out here like this is in his range so this would be a 54 y from the left hash mark for Tyler Loop that would be a career long for him by the way it's on the left hash so here we go ball down kick is up that's got enough distance is it through the uprights and it is good for Tyler Loop a new career long at 54 yards I should have believed you Lamont the minute he stepped onto the field no I've seen him do it know he can do that wow he he could have made that from 60 easily look at he had distance on that thing that's beautiful I'll tell you about a great story when we come back about you know Tyler Loop and and kicking footballs when we come back field goes good 1216 to go in quarter number two Arizona 17 New Mexico 14 this is Drive summary brought to you by Jack furer tyan Autocare since 1960 here to get you there well normally you have a Fourplay 2 yard drive and you don't expect to get a lot out of it but then you don't have Tyler Loop 54 yard field goal the possession went one minute exactly and the Wildcats back in front 1714 so uh Bren Brena was telling the story about Tyler Loop and why he is so good kicking the ball you you play golf lemon right okay not very well all right that's okay you know when you hit the ball there's a a sound to it you kind of know and if you listen if you ever go to a a pro tournament when they hit the ball there's a sound and when Tyler Loop kicks the football there's a sound to it that is unique and and and Bren was telling me about uh he was talking to Becca moros the U OFA soccer coach and she was asking why he was so good kicking the football and he says just listen and when he kicks the ball there's that sound you only hear it when when you're in the stadium and that's why he's as good as he is yeah I believe it yeah he's got all kinds of accuracy and distance I mean he's he's as good as they come I mean I think he has a future probably playing on Sundays with with the way he can kick the ball yeah absolutely so and now Loop will kick off with the wild cats up by three and Lobos to get the ball here this will be possession number five coming up for New Mexico each team has headed the the ball four times tonight and the kickoff again will go over the in line that one didn't even uh get close to the back of the end zone and the Lobos will start at their own 25 first down and 10 so Deon demp here 9 of 13 138 yards tonight leading rusher as well for the Lobos 35 yards on five carries and Luke weong five catches 94 yards in a touchdown he has been their go-to guy yeah he's made some he and McMillan tonight have made spectacular catches yeah Arizona has hasn't really found an answer for weong just yet all right so first and 10 Lobos empty set now for dampier on first down from the 25 left hash mark Quick Pass screen play he throws it over the head of the intended receiver into the lobbo bench that will be incomplete yeah uh that was Jacobs the intended receiver but he's uh 5'9 and needed to be 6' N I don't know if you noticed the tight end in the game he's number 38 he is 61 303 lb Isaiah San they just ran him in motion to block on that screen right there that was a sight to see well good thing is they didn't need him yeah all right Danier on second down and 10 out of the shot gun now two receivers right tight end left and right play fake damper to throw with time throws right and it's caught by weong of course out near the 40 yd line for first down he's good I mean weong does an excellent job of creating Separation on his routes and it was a man-to-man route again against uh kbu and he just uh he got open my mistake that was Ryan Davis who made the catch oh you're right so he showed great hands so it's first down for the Lobos at their own 40 yd line trailing by three dampier will take the snap hand off looking for some room not much there now breaking a tackle and inside the 50 down to the Arizona 40 foot race to the 30 and finally tackled for behind at the 28 yd line is Javin Jacobs just some bad tackling that time looked like they had him for a loss and just he just stepped through those tackles and took off Jacobs the uh sopore up in Chandler so big first down for him finally trayon stooks caught him but 32 yds later first down for the Lobos at the Arizona 28 trailing by three damper to throw over the middle and it's caught and they're going to mark it at the 20 he is efficient I mean and what what what they're doing right now the strategy with Arizona cuz Arizona's coming with pressure um and they're playing man coverage so dampier's getting the ball out of his hands really quickly he's taking one two seconds and the ball is out and they're hitting them on these Crossing type routes and so it's a great strategy against a team that plays a lot of man-to-man coverage First Catch by the way by Trace buckler outstanding tight end so second down and two after a gain of eight and damp will keep it to the right turns the corner at the 15 down to the 10 and Out of Bounds at the five and there he goes with his legs again yeah it's it's difficult to stop I mean they're doing a nice their their scheme is nice they're doing a great job of of really creating conflicts with Arizona they're having they're running the running back to the left and dampier's pulling the ball and and going to the right and so they're creating conflict with that you have to be very disciplined with your eyes when you're playing this team because he can slip out the backside just like he did that time right there first and goal Lobos at the Arizona 6 1015 to go second quarter wild Kats with a 1714 lead everybody in tight condensed formation here damp Pier will hand off and Jacobs looking for some room but nothing there so no gain on the play in fact they might Mark him for a loss yeah this is that same formation where they ran that naked play with a quarterback last week and they got in this formation earlier and snuck a running back out and he was wide open so every time they get in that formation you kind of have to they do a lot of different things out of it all right so they'll bring in Nick tro had a big catch earlier tonight he's wide to the left is the only true receiver wide receiver in this set and now they'll move Buckler and two men out to the right in a stack set now two men left stack and empty set for demp here looking left throwing left got a man open caught at the three but Jacobs his momentum took him out of bounds nobody was there and had he been able to put the brakes on would have easily scored yeah he was wide open so they'll move it to the three now it'll be third down and goal New Mexico well the Lobos you know last year and you know they didn't have a banner season last year but the Red Zone was very good they were one of the best in the country in that department low snap damp with it rolling right throwing Fade to the far corner and incomplete intended out there for troo so now it is fourth down in goal and let's see what Bronco manhal wants to do here yeah stooks did a nice job in coverage that time LC Dre Wiki will come out hit one of three field goals last week against Montana State Qui yd field goal attemp this will be attempt from 20 so the Mark will be at the 10 yd line left hash he's a right footed kicker snap ball down kick is up and the kick is good and we're even up now with 917 to go in the second quarter Arizona 17 New Mexico 17 and these teams just trading punches now yeah it's been an entertaining game it has Mexico's you know Mexico's been good I mean they they they've been really good on offense put together some nice drives hitting Arizona with some big plays um but Arizona did a nice job of turning them away that time um changed that momentum because they could have scored a touchdown they inside the the red zone and Arizona turned him away nth play 72 yards in 2 minutes and 59 seconds and the final 20 on the field goal by driz wikii so tied at 17 Wildcats will get the ball back here they have uh all three of their timeouts remaining a lot of time left here in the second quarter and keep in mind that we have the two-minute timeout now and so it adds a timeout and that I think that's a great part of the Strate strategy now and Bren brenon was talking about that on his Monday radio show that having that extra timeout you can really kind of you know in a tight ball game use that to your advantage oh for sure just like the NFL yeah yeah all right here's the kickoff and that's a short one again Patterson will take it at his own 8 yd line now up to near hash and twists his way over the 20 out to the 24 that's where the Wildcats will take over first down and 10 cats back here next Saturday night Northern Arizona in town Lumberjacks make their trip down off the mountain they had a big win today over Lincoln a school from Oakland California and that'll be a 7:00 kickoff next Saturday night all right they'll mark it at the 23 and that's where the Wildcats take over here first down and 10 Noah F so far tonight 7 of 12 164 yds two touchdowns he'll work out of the shotgun connley in motion out of the back field ffid will throw it out to connley in the flat got to beat a man tried to jump over him but uh pushed out out of bounds up at the 28 yd line nice gain on the play now nice job of of of Noah just taking what the defense is given them I think they need to do a little bit more of that sometimes you get a little greedy with with uh getting explosive plays and you're not just getting taken what the defense has given you so Arizona did a better job on that series gain a five out of the play second down and five from the 28 pistol set to start things out here for fif and now connley will move down to his left two receivers right one left Noah will take the snap looking right throwing right caught by lonus Craig tried to break a tackle he's Twisted down but has enough for the first down out to the 34 on a gain of six again that's back a little bit of what I was talking about again Arizona just taking what they're giving them and then and trying to put together some drives you know so they get a new first down here from their own 34 tie game at 17 818 to go in the first half Roberto Miranda the tight end just leaving the field down he was in the Huddle but got out of there in time cat will leave the left side blank faf under Center two to the right on the short side of the field and the handoff will go inside to Conley and he'll take it out near the 39 that was a nice adjustment to connley that time they they the play start it was a Zone play to the right and they noticed connley noticed that hole in the back and he just kind of pressed the hole and cut back and got a nice gain on the play and stopped by Kyler Drake senior out of sand Nino California second down and six Arizona after a gain of four see Malachi Riley in now wide left along with Patterson single man right faf out of the shotgun he'll send Conley in motion out of the back field faf quick pass over the middle and it's tipped and picked off and the Lobos will take over at their own 49 yd Line pass intended for Devin hayatt and tipped up in the air and the Lobos intercept it Christian Ellis the free safety makes the pick first turnover of the Knight and now the Lobos in a tie game will get it back with 725 to go yeah Hy can't be surprised by that that was it was a in Cut route to him he was open for just you know put some heat on that ball and he looked surprised when the ball came to him popped it up in the air and that's the worst possible scenario of the ball popping straight up in the air well first game action for Deon Hyatt Richard freshman out of Bron Florida but now the Lobos will take over at their own 49 17 all our score damp Pier at quarterback empty set takes the snap throws left and it's caught right about the Arizona 46 yd line I think that's where their mark it so gain of about I think they'll give him five on the play so be second down and five now for New Mexico plenty of time left here in the half that was bruckler by the way the tight end and a nice game last week four catches 34 yards and a touchdown he's 63 244 out of Frisco Texas so here's dampier looking to run it and he weaves his way inside the 45 to the 40 down to the 35 and slides down with a first down but dampier right now is at least for New Mexico he is controlling this game on the offensive end he is he's such a he's such a playmaker and that was a situation there where it really looked like he was going to get sacked but instead he ends up getting a first down uh because he's got such great legs down to the Arizona 35 first and 10 Lobos tie game at 17 dampier out of the shotgun he'll take the snap rolling right on the option pitch it goes to the right side to Sanders doesn't get much Wildcats filled that hole in a hurry Sanders down to the 33 yd line and so he's second down and eight for New Mexico Dalton Johnson Richard JR out of Katy Texas makes the stop for the cats so second and two Daner looking over the the defense he'll send two men wide left one to the right that tight Dan seelman now moves from left to right dampier will take the snap back throwing down The Far Side lot of contact but it's incomplete out of bounds so it'll be third down and eight now for New Mexico big opportunity here for Arizona and that was uh R kabu Who was there on the coverage and good coverage so third down and eight for New Mexico they're two five so far tonight on third down Zoo turning up the volume dampier out of the shotgun trips left single man right here's the snap dampier Quick Pass screen play caught bumps off a man inside the 30 down to the 25 first down at the 20 and there's weong again boy what a night it has been for Luke weong that's his sixth catch now he's over 100 yards here in the first half and the Lobos have a first down at the Arizona 20 yeah they did a nice job of of blocking that time and just just actually sprung them 13 yards on that play mark it at the 21 it'll be first down and 10 for New Mexico 1717 with 520 to go in the opening half damp Pier from the gun will take the snap looking left dumps it off and it's caught at the 20 breaking away at the 15 and Out of Bounds at about the 12 that's Eli Sanders they're starting running back tonight nice move there to get away from the initial tackler gain of eight on that play they are they are so efficient tonight um with this offense and they've just got Arizona simply on their heels it's like they don't know what's coming at them and isn't that the idea absolutely trips right they'll break out of that now bring a Man in Motion weong play to him rolling right damp here he's going to run it inside the 10 to the five into the end zone touchdown New Mexico and the Lobos Take the Lead Arizona is in a game tonight and New Mexico came to play Devon damp here again just rolls out um it's really the best thing you can do with him is get him in space and and force Arizona to have to tackle him and and so far they haven't done a good job of it 13 yards for Deon D here and Lobo scope up 23 to 17 extra point upcoming so damp here tonight 190 y passing 73 rushing and the extra point by twii is up and good and with 451 to go first half New Mexico 24 Arizona 17 more in a moment this is Wildcat football from Arizona Sports Enterprises you hear that that's the sound of a guitar saying wow like wow Delta Dental as a nation's largest network Mexico has a 2417 lead over the Wildcats you look at New Mexico's uh offensive possessions tonight punt touchdown touchdown punt field goal touchdown Arizona tonight touchdown touchdown punt field goal interception well was the first turnover of the night and and that is one thing you do not want to do in a game like this is give a team an extra possession because that's what just happened right there Ona played has played pretty clean up until that last uh that last drive there there um there's a stat that doesn't get a lot of attention it's uh points o off turnovers okay and this was right there seven points for New Mexico off a turnover and um last year the wild cats made a total turn around let's go back two years ago right Arizona was outscored by 52 points off turnovers last season the Wildcats scored 63 points gave up only 24 off turnovers that's a big reason they went from five wins to 10 wins yeah no question about it I mean those are those are game-changing plays and uh we saw you know the result of that right there I mean if you can win the turnover margin in games there's usually a pretty good opportunity that you probably can win that game by the way there was a penalty on Arizona on the uh the extra point a personal foul on tario Davis and so Stein Camp's going to kick off from Midfield I you know it's like why bother but yeah unless they want to squib it down there which is a possibility mhm so now the officials waiting not sure what they're waiting for Stein Camp will ret the ball oh I see they just haven't finished the commercial break yet mhm got to get to that so Charles Stein Camp sophomore out of New Mexico and he will kick off from the 50 so this would be easy just to blow it through the end zone or like I said he could squib it down and you get a you get a bad bounce or you you know get great coverage and maybe you you keep the Wildcats inside the 25 that would be a plus for them yeah so here's the approach and he is going to just line drive it takes a bounce and the Wildcats will pick it up about the two yd line out to the 10 to the near side and to the 20 and they got pretty good return on that for connley yep and so you it probably worked well for both teams New Mexico keeps him inside the 25 yd line now Mark it at the 22 and that's where the wild cats take over well we mentioned it during the our our pregame talk Lamont that there's three things that Bren brenon really looks at statistically turnover margin yep third down conversions Red Zone so we start with the turnover margin and the wild cats are down one now and they have the football at their own 22 first down and 10 Noah F at quarterback pistol set with trips left single man right no will play fake throw left going for some type of screen I think to Patterson but had to throw it too hard and right by him incomplete Jeremiah INE yeah that just bad execution that time I don't know what threw the timing off of it but uh they were not on the same page there so second and 10 while gets 441 to go here in the first half 2417 New Mexico with the lead am monus Craig wide left McMillan to the right faf out of the shotgun five men up front for the Lobos faf back to throw has some time going deep trying to find McMillan he's battling for position but it's the overthrown got uh slowed down a bit there by Noah paa Gates and that was just enough so it'll be third and 10 now and boy now here's the scary part Lamont you give him the ball back if you don't convert here with a lot of time line yeah they can't go you know they they're finding themselves in third and long way too much they their efficiency on first down has been bad um the last couple of drives and and this is a team like New Mexico this is what they want because they want to continue to pressure you so third and 10 Arizona the Wild Cuts on third down tonight one of three fafo will take the snap play fake to Conley back to throw dancing around back there looking firing over the middle caught by McAn first down to the 50 McAn to the 40 to the 30 to the 20 to the 10 to the 15 into the end zone touchdown Arizona oh gosh that's a big time play just a Crosser to T-Mac and he accelerates up the sideline for a big time play Arizona grabs that momentum right back third touchdown tonight from faf to McMillan I thought the angle that TM I didn't know he could get away but he's got speed well he's already you know you know ff's already had his longest touchdown throw his longest pass throw as a wildcat he just upped that now 78 yards wow wow that was huge that's what Arizona needed that's for sure and if you're having a hard time that's a guy that you want to throw it to he won't drop it I guarantee you that no he got in the open and scored quickly the thing is they did not Blitz on that play they' had been blitzing Noah but they gave him time and if he can sit back there in the pocket he can hurt you well he hurt him there yep so ff's third touchdown of the night he's at 253 yds passing now and McMillan has caught five balls for 199 Loop out for the extra point ball down kick is up and it's good did you say 199 199 yards receiving for Teto McMillan on five catches here in the first half and how about this yards after catch ready for this yes 109 yards after catch for team he may be leading the nation after tonight I don't know oh boy that's crazy but Arizona's got to find a way to slow these guys down yeah big plays have been huge tonight you got the you know the 69 yd pass play from faid to teamac that opened the ball game for the wild cats that that was just an adjustment that wasn't even a Crossing route so T-Mac was running up the field but when he saw Noah um he saw Noah um he he he he broke off his route and and and just just basically kind of improvised and came open so again the pre previous best for faf entering the ball game tonight had been a 69 yd pass play and he tied that earlier and now a 78 Y and for McMillan his longest catch as a wildcat prior to tonight was 57 yards and now he has 1 for 69 one for 78 oh just a small one of 17 earlier yeah it's been pretty Unstoppable but they keep playing man on him so well one thing and after the kickoff here and that will go over the end line uh first of all our Drive summary brought to you by Jack fer Ty in autoare since 1960 here to get you there three plays 78 yards and 24 seconds and the Wildcats back in the tie ball game but you brought up a good point Lamont You Know the Way New Mexico has been moving the ball that everybody's celebrating but there's still 421 left uh the Lobos have two timeouts and the two-minute timeout yeah Arizona hasn't figured out how to stop these guys yet early on they were getting a lot of pressure but their solution to that is to get rid of the ball quickly and move the quarterback and and so far they they haven't gotten pressure on him as as of late so first down Lobos at their own 25 yd line moving right to left D Pier will take the snap hand off quick handoff and that got nothing maybe a yard and that's it and the everything has revolved around two guys for New Mexico tonight Devon dampier and Luke Weiss oh he's he's been there there goto guy and he's he's had a huge night damp here it's just been he's he's really been Dynamic Sanders gets get a yard on the the carry Jacob Manu the tackle for the Wildcats second down and nine for the Lobos at their own 26 yd line clock under four minutes here in the half empty set now for dampier he's got two receivers stacked right in the slot one wide right single wide out left dampier long snap count here play clock down to one they have to call a timeout something wasn't right and so dampier had to call the timeout to avoid the penalty and with 333 left here in the first uh first half they've used their second so they have one timeout plus the two-minute timeout and again that's when it it comes into play all right we'll uh throw in a couple more scores for you here uh JW mad we'll have a complete look at the scoreboard coming up at halftime Oklahoma State ranked 17th beat South Dakota state 44-2 today and um see if there's anything else of uh of Interest the it's get it's you know one thing we're going to have to get used to and that's the the Big 12 teams now Old Miss by the way leads Ferman 73 to nothing going to the fourth quarter Kansas State the wild cats will see them here in a few weeks in Manhattan leading Texas Martin or Tennessee Martin sorry 41-6 that's late in the game Oregon bit of a surprise here 4 minutes to go third quarter Oregon leading Idaho 14 to7 all right back to play dampier looking to throw look to run nowhere to go now being chased to the near Side by Manu still turns now he throws and now it's picked off Wild Cat's intercepted and they'll take over the football at the New Mexico 44 yd line how about that yeah that Gman Genesis there is a flag down on the far side now did that occur during the play Let's see hang on so Genesis Smith right now with the interception ball would be at the New Mexico 44 here's the call the result of the play is an interception after the play un Sportsman like conduct Arizona number 12 that 15yd penalty will be en forced over first down you know it's supposed to be fun yeah football is fun let them have some fun I mean you get a an interception Genesis Smith you know gets an interception I believe that's his first no check that is second he had one against Oklahoma at the Alamo Bowl yep and uh sophore had a Chandler and yeah he celebrating Andy flag I know it's a rule I'm just saying no I'm I'm not arguing with you on that one man I I I hate that he's a call the NFL the no fun League because I used to get mad when people uh celebrate it but now they're kind of letting those guys do that now all right so the wild cats now will start from their own 40 and again 322 to go and they've got all three of their timeouts and now flag is down before the snap procedure against Arizona or wait a minute Point yeah could there be disconcerting signals coming from the Lobos both teams are pointing at each other let's find out delay of game defense abrupt shift 5yd penalty first down it's it's exactly what you said Brian they're when they're when they're telling those guys to do that shift they're trying to make it sound like a snap count to try to get Arizona to jump off and I think that's a rule of emphasis this year and so the wild cats will get five yards back and now start at their own 45 first down and five TI game at 24 snap to faf hand off croski Merritt cross Midfield that'll be a first down gain of seven to the lowo 48 I like it I want to see mered get the ball a little bit more I think I still want to see more of him because he's he's a Workhorse 1190 yards 17 touchdowns playing for New Mexico last season started his college career at Alabama state so first down Wildcats at the lobbo 48 tie game under three to go in the first half the Wildcats have all three timeouts plus the two-minute in motion ber Bernett from right to left AO will throw left caught by McMillan breaks a tackle and out of bounds should have the first down let's see where they mark it here no I'm going to say stepped out a yard short okay so nine yard gain it'll be second and one mark it at the 39 of newx Mexico McMillan will stay on that left side Theon is Craig to the right ffid lining up under Center use that extra tight end take the snap croski Merritt trying to twist away and he's not going to get much in fact he's stopped for no game so now it's third and oneis well I think you know one thing we've seen tonight the wild cats with you know three new offensive linemen yeah and that's just an area of growth and get into live action and this is a learning curve for them yeah and I and and you know I and I agree with what you're saying one of the things I think that's a little bit different um this team is they're not they're not really going up Tempo they're huddling every play and they're bringing in their their shuffling in guys and you can see New Mexico waiting to see um what package comes in and they're doing a good job of of dusting and and sending in you know their personnel based on what Arizona is doing so from that standpoint they're not really challenging um New Mexico's you know with with with Tempo or anything like that just kind of lining up and doing it so New Mexico is doing a good job of matching whatever Arizona brings in so two-minute timeout I'm not going to call this a two-minute warning we won't steal that from the NFL right just two-minute timeout we'll take it and in a 242 24 tie well cats have a third and one so let's take a look at the uh the schedule coming up Lamont because I alluded to it earlier and uh it's new of course for the Wildcats joining the Big 12 this year and so na here next week they go to Kansas State that's a non-conference game and a lot of people ask about that again the story is that that game had been previously scheduled prior to Arizona joining the Big 12 in fact it's a home in home with Kansas State and so uh the the Big 12 allowed it to be a non-conference game and and Arizona is not the only team by the way that has run into this now Utah is in the same boat where they've got a non-conference game they're have going to have to play against a big 12 opponent and uh the reason is that football scheduling is done way in advance I mean if you look at Arizona's future schedule for example their non-conference schedule is filled out now for about 10 years ahead and that's that's usually the case you see at every at every school and and so let's just say a year ago not even a year ago when U you know the the Pack 12 dissolved and uh all of a sudden you're told hey you got to go out and find another non-conference game it's almost impossible because everybody has their schedule fill right so that's the reason behind it so anyway Kansas State on the road then the Wildcats have a week off before they go to Salt Lake City and face Utah that will be their first official Big 12 game and then their first Big 12 home game on October 5th against Texas Tech they go back to Utah to play BYU on October 12th they' got Colorado at home West Virginia at home the following week then the trip to Central Florida Houston at home at TCU and then Arizona State at home to wrap up the season on November 30th two by weeks uh this year as well which is somewhat unusual New Mexico has three by the way remember they started in week zero right so they end up with the three by weeks this year and so that's a look and it's going to be fun I think as we see these new venues and see these new rivalries absolutely and we know Arizona's got a rivalry with ASU and you can say they've got a rivalry with Utah and Colorado because they played them now uh for over 10 years now as part of the the what was then the Pack 12 but who's going to be that new rival I I that's what I'm waiting to see it may take a couple years yeah that exactly right it's going to have to play out it's got to be back and forth for it to become a rivalry it can't be you know one way so we'll see how what happens it'll be interesting to see all right so now third and one Arizona at the Lobo 44 two minutes to go second quarter again the Wildcats still have all three of their timeouts Noah ffid has had what you had hoped to see a great start here 10 of 18 253 three touchdowns he'll throw out in the near flat caught at the 40 down to the 35 to the 325 and out of bounds is Conley with a first down wide open and and that's taking advantage again of knowing what the tendencies that New Mexico's shown you can see soon as Arizona sends someone in motion their safeties automatically come downhill they they're coming downhill to bring that extra guy in the Box it's been a nice strategy to get an extra guy in the box but Arizona took advantage and hit him in the flats and got a a big gain off of it Mark it at the 20 three so gain of 21 first down Arizona snap to faf handoff connley ins side he'll just Barrel his way down near the 20 so the wild cats are certainly in field goal range right now but hey still got uh three timeouts minute 40 clock running yeah they've got to be thinking touchdown down here they can really uh grab the momentum because they get the ball back um in the in the beginning I mean in this in the next half so Bernett Patterson lonus Craig to the left McMillan to the right cat's not in a big hurry here faf out of the shotgun coning to his right in the back Back Field here's the snap and F going to hand off to connley and nowhere to go so he's actually going to be dropped for a loss of a couple yards and the clock continues to run minute six left in the half just such a promising drive so far but two two runs up the gut and nothing now they're back to Third and long again I mean they know they can get a field goal out of this but be nice to see them get in the end zone here not using timeouts here yeah so McMillan slot left Patterson wide left faf shotgun connley to his right in the back field Noah back to throw looking left still looking left throwing for the corner of the end zone and it's broken up I think would have been out of bounds anyway so McMillan the intended receiver so it's fourth down they got to kick a field goal here and that's think they're just going to let the well they can't let the clock run because the pass was out of bounds yeah so Loop will come out to try and put the Wildcats ahead here with 34 seconds left 33 Ty L this will be a 41 yd field goal attempt he's already hit his career best of 54 this will be 41 yd attempt Michael Salgado Medina The Freshman Hunter by the way is the holder and whistle and delay of game no he's just trying to freeze him 5y penalty oh no it is down are they going to are they going to yeah H I mean it's not it's not a problem for him as far as distance goes unless he misses it yeah right I'm saying distance is not an issue it's it's about accuracy here so now 46 is the yardage for Tyler Loop right hash mark right footed [Music] kicker here's the snap ball down kick up kick good that would have been good for oh yeah a lot further than that let's put it that way yeah so loop with his second field goal of the night the wild cats Take the Lead 2724 with 30 seconds left in the half and now of course the object here is don't let anything crazy happen yeah well that was a good answer remember after New Mexico had gone ahead the Wildcats came back to tie it on the 70 yd pass play to McMillan and now take the lead with 30 seconds left in the half Place Y 2 48 seconds Luke 46 yd field goal so again the Lobos will get the ball back here with 30 seconds left they have just for the record they do have one timeout now I would think you're on the road and you're right in the game right now you know don't do anything silly yeah yeah I mean they can if they want to try to take a shot they definitely don't want to get you know you're right I think you just run the ball go at the half and be happy that you you know this is a a really competitive game Loop will kick off and it will go through the end zone for a Touchback since the Lobos will have the ball at their own 25 first down and 10 and no time off the clock 30 seconds left here in the first half but it's been competitive both teams have had an interception both have scored off the interception I might add or yeah off the interception and so but New Mexico got seven Arizona gets three so we'll see what Bronco Med Hall and loas want to do here again if it's me and this is why I never coach football you know you sit on the ball yeah it's crazy but can dampier do that he's out of the shotgun he'll take the snap and a hand off and nothing there so maybe that's what they're going to do and they don't have to run another play now if they don't want to yeah so Sanders took it for virtually no game [Music] and again the Lobos don't have to snap it again and I don't think they will they're just going to watch the clock it's under 10 seconds Arizona will have the lead at halftime entertaining first half certainly and uh a lot of offense almost dead even 306 yards Arizona 305 yds for New Mexico scoreboard almost even two cats lead 27-24 at the break more Wildcats took the lead with 30 seconds left in the half on Tyler Loop's 46 yd field goal 2724 favor of Arizona so Lamont what do you think one half down what' you see um I think the offense has done some good things tonight they definitely have have had a lot of explosive plays I'd like to see them do more um not more but I like to see um put together more drives where rather than just go for the big shot all the time because I think you sometimes you can get kind of enamored with that and and you've seen the offense kind of struggle a little bit because you know they've been looking for the big shot the big shot but put together some drives take advantage of some of the things that this defense is doing and throw underneath throw some quick shots um I think on the defensive side of the ball um they're just off they're they're completely off balance right now and they're trying to figure out you know they're trying to find themselves defend L right now they were coming with a lot of pressure early on and they were getting to damp here a little bit um but he continued to to attack them and and now they they found some things they found some holes in our defense and they they're just continuing um to keep Arizona off balance with what they're doing so Arizon is going to really have to make some adjustments and we'll see what happens um because they're struggling right now to stop them all right tight game halftime 2724 Wildcats JW Madden has scores coming up next then we'll hear from Desiree Reed Francois the new athletic director at Arizona sit down with her and talk our tradition at halftime of the first football game every year to talk with the director of Athletics at the University of Arizona so we're pleased to uh bring in and she's not new but uh re introducer for our radio listeners Desiree Reed franois 5 months on the job now Desiree um surprises uh I what's the the most thrilling thing maybe you've seen here in the first five months the most uh well first of all it's good to be here with you and five months in I still think I can I can carry the moniker of new can't I uh you know the best part of of my job is is the students without a doubt and I just love the energy that have seeing students and and being around students so that's my favorite part of my job this is also coach Bren Brennan's first game as head coach of the Wildcats I know everyone's excited to to see his career grow here at Arizona and he's been very successful at San Jose State but in your mind Des ree how has coach Brennan captured the attention of the Arizona fans and the optimism that we see entering the season two things actually three the first being his authenticity uh he is a dick Tomy Protegé and when you think of Coach Tomy and again I was a lost student in 1997 but that was during the teddy brushi era and this was 94 to 97 I was here so I think I must have caught Teddy's like last uh last season and just seeing that desert swarm um but what you always got the sense from coach Tomy was it was about the team the team the team and that's what I see in coach Brennan uh this second piece is his generosity of spirit whether it is our uh soccer team and you will see him out there uh cheering on the soccer team he brings the entire team there he is the first one to volunteer to be in the dunk tank at our welcome back barbecue uh and you know he just he's a team the Ultimate Team player and then the third piece is his intellectual capabilities and capacity uh and what I mean by that is he is always learning and from a leader persp leadership perspective that's what we're looking for you know we always can and he has that humility and we're always um sharing books or sharing just different things that we've learned and I I really appreciate that about him uh football drives the bus economically for every college football program across the country so I'll ask you the importance of the Arizona fans continuing to get behind this team and what that can mean for the success not only this season but future years and I talked about Coach Brenan and his uh you asked about kind of what I was interested about Coach Brandon and what's surprised me or what I've enjoyed getting to know and I talked about him as a leader um but great coaches they're great leaders they're great Educators and they're great students of the game and great recruiters and Coach Brandon is that complete package now in terms of the economic impact that our football program has and and all of our Sports I think we represent roughly $266 million in economic impact every year to our state uh our governance model is based on football and it's we're going to be an and school we are an and school you can have comprehensive Excellence across the board and I believe a rising tide lifts all boats so we are excellent in men's basketball and that Championship Legacy and what coach Lloyd um is continuing to build upon but coach br and he um football is a really big economic driver and like I said our governance model is based upon football there's something so special about having uh 50,800 screaming Wildcat fans all cheering for that same goal uh and what that brings and how that galvanizes a community it it can't be understated so um I'm really looking forward to Big 12 competition I'm looking forward to expanding the reach of the University of Arizona across the country and uh looking forward to welcoming some new fan bases and letting them experience how great tan is and by the way the minute that they sample how great our food is they're going to want to move here I mark my words okay all right finally um you've been involved in college athletics for a long time so you and your your fellow athletic directors face challenges every year is there one with the the changing landscape of College athletics is there one big challenge right now that that you and your counterparts are facing they we're there's shifts across um the entire landscape I mean this is the first year of the expanded cfp this is our first year in the Big 12 we have um the massive shift in in nil that we've seen But now the real opportunity is is our implementation of the house settlement that's why we have to go back to our core value um of Integrity respect Community excellence and resilience and those are unique to the athletic department here at the University of Arizona and we have to figure out our guides and our guides as we're implementing our house program uh our guides are we have to be competitive this is a community that has seen championships and that's what we owe them we have to be fair we have to be Equitable and we have to be great stewards of our resources and our thanks to Desiree Reed Francois 306 total yards for the Wildcats 278 through the air 28 on the on the ground 11 first downs three of six on third down Wildcats are run 30 plays in that first half averaging 10 yds a play for New Mexico 305 yards of offense 190 passing 115 rushing 16 first downs for the Lobos three of six on third down as well and they ran 42 plays in that first half Noah faf 12 of 21 for 278 three touchdowns one interception Wild Cat's top rusher in that first half jakori crosy Meritt five carries 23 yards Teto McMillan six catches 208 and three scores in that first half for New Mexico Dev dampier 15 to 20 through the air for 190 two touchdowns one interception dampier the top rusher eight carries 73 yards in a touchdown Luke weisong their leading receiver six catches 106 and a score as well wild cats will get the opening kickoff here in the third quarter and I'm not saying they need to go down and score necessary necessarily Lamont but you know it nice to establish something right away yeah no they they definitely need to jump out on these guys and and grab this momentum back because it's a back and forth game and uh when you have an opportunity to to to get some separation they really have to take advantage of that all right for the Lobos they te it up at the 35 yd line Charles Stein Camp is their kickoff expert and for the Wildcats Patterson is deep great crowd on hand tonight beautiful night for football and uh if you you love an exciting game well you've seen half of one now and ready for the second half and here's the kick this one headed for the End Zone Patterson about a yard deep he'll bring it out again up the far hash to the 10 15 slips The Tackle to the 20 still L at the 30 out to the 35 finally pulled down at the 40 I'll say it again Jeremiah Patterson watch out yeah he's a he's a big time player and you can just see his quickness right away and and I thought early on that he had a couple opportunities early where it looked like he almost got through the crease that time he found the crease and uh made a really nice gain on the play yeah he's a wide receiver for the Wildcats and obviously will return kicks and he is exciting all right from the 40 the wild cats will start their opening drive here in the second half leading 2724 Noah ffo we mentioned his stats 278 through the air three touchdowns one interception they'll take the snap on first down and a delayed handoff and up the middle breaking a tackle and another is crossy Meritt and he'll get almost to Midfield close to the first down that's a nice gain by crosy Merritt he runs with great patience but then show some explosiveness at the very end he set up his block and he cut right off of it and made a nice game Bryson Taylor makes the stop for New Mexico second and one for the Wildcats just shy of Midfield as they open this third quarter moving right to left faf surveying the defense starting the pistol set here here two receivers left one to the right ball right about the middle of the field on that block a faf back to throw looking right looking left looking again throwing to The Far Side trying to find Craig and is he out of bounds What A Catch he made the catch at the 20 yd line what a catch that was incredible concentration by Montana that ball was in the air he threw the ball in the spot where really only he could get it but it it took great concentration to keep his feet in bounds oh that was McMill of course should have guessed another big play and a first down for the wild cats at the 21 of the Lobos and now yeah the official's going to take a look at it I thought it was going to be out of bounds it looked like it was about to too far but they're going to take a closer look at it here for RW it's close yeah cuz his knee it looked like his knee and foot almost hit at the same time so it it's going to come down to whether his foot he had a foot in bounce but his knee hit the ground too so out of Bounce all right well give me a moment here to tell you about the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies last night up at La Paloma and they were also introduced on the field tonight at halftime Julie leonte from track and field Dr Don Porter one guy that was a a physician to so many student athletes for so many years ly Lang track and field Bob Ralston from U OFA baseball Nick Ross from track and field Andre Gala H he won a few titles in the NBA Kenzie Fowler great softball pitcher Jason Terry who also uh has a couple rings they were honored last night they're all here in the stadium had their families along as well and what a special night it was and it always is every year and uh congratulations to all of them and I I'll point out keny Fowler because her office is right down the hall for me she works in the creative services department and her husband Kyle is our co-host on our pregame show and of course awesome great wild cat as well indeed so she's a stud all right uh uh they're still looking at it here right now I think it's a catch B okay he got he got his foot he definitely got a foot down before his knee did it was just like it was bang bang it like his foot hit the ground and then his knee hit out of bounds so it would be 30 yards if it holds and he first down at the lobbo 21 so I mean the Wildcats in this game you know the big plays have been huge I mean you just look at the touchdown 6978 then that play there for 30 but I think you talked about it as well amont at halftime as there that you know big plays are great but after review it was determined that the pass is incomplete be third down and one at the previous spot who I thought his foot was in his foot hit the ground first that's interesting they maybe they thought the ball was moving or something I don't know but his his foot was in okay that's interesting well they didn't give us a further explanation other than it was incomplete so Wipe Out the 30-yard play and now all of a sudden the wild cats are faced with a third down and you take the ball all the way back to their own 49 yd line so now they need a a yard here to keep the drive alive but yeah back to what what I was saying though yeah I I I do think that they need to get more of a I'm not saying there's anything wrong with getting explosive plays obviously we'll love them but I don't think you don't search them out I think that you know you take what they give you all right so here we go on Third and one now and the Wildcats line up for the first time tonight in their power eye McMillan will be the lone white out to the left and again fif taking a look at the defense as they get ready to snap it Lobos crowd the line faf is going to hand off there's a first down and more for the Wildcats inside the 40 there goes to the 10 to the five touchdown Arizona we talk about an explosion for connley Bly connley 51 yds just like that that was an incredible there was a crease on along the outside and that's old school football that time he had a fullback leading away for him kicks there's a kickout block and Conley goes untouched up the sideline Big Time play for Arizona touchdown Conley out of Fresno transfer from San Jose State rushed for 842 yards last year and nine touchdowns and his first one as a wildcat gives Arizona a 3324 lead extra point upcoming that was a fullback actually in that play so here's Loop for the extra point flags are down it's good if it counts and I'm wondering if the Lobos had too many men on the field they ran a guy in late and when you see the the flags come down right at the snap you kind of think the officials saw something there so we're going to hold it here for a second wild cats will take the extra point and let it was against Arizona but there are fouls on both teams okay holding kicking team number 88 substitution in fraction defense 12 players in formation will those offet will'll replay the down all right so the holding was on Kim Bernett and then yeah New Mexico ran a guy in late and nobody came out yeah that's not fair is it no youve got to have 11 on all right so Loop will get another shot and again Tyler stre he's over 100 straight extra points now without a Miss don't laugh kick is up it's good I was hoping you didn't that wasn't the kiss of death I was like you never say that Brian I know I I knew you were going to I was like oh it's good 1340 to go third quarter Arizona 34 New learn more call us at 7191 1433 today advisory Services provided by Meridian wealth management a registered investment [Music] adviser cats up by 20 I checked that by 10 with 1340 to go in the third quarter Drive summary brought to you by Jack F your Ty and Autocare since 1960 here to get you there three Play 60 yards in a minute 11 quality Conley with the 51 yd run and that gives the Wildcats this 10-point so let's take a look now at the big plays tonight for the Wildcats and I'll just I'll run run them by you by numbers uh 69 yards 27 17 24 78 16 18 and 51 so any play over 15 yards is a big play and that's what the wild kits have done tonight and uh but their drives again have been short now you go back now to their their first scoring Drive minute 14 their second 217 their third 1 minute then 24 seconds 252 has been their longest drive and now that one a minute 11 and so New Mexico has the time of possession tonight they've run more plays the Arizona defense has been on the field more tonight yeah but they've got a 10-point lead that's the good news but you know you you start getting later in the game now and it starts to wear on you a bit and uh so I think that's a factor we have to keep a close eye on yeah it it's a great it's a great point and I I think it's something that Arizona you know they I want you want to see that element too like I said obviously no one's going to say we don't want explosive plays but I think you want to see them um put together some drives too I think you want to see them have the ability to do that when they need to put together a drive you know you want to see them do that all right Lobo to get the ball Luke to kick off from the 35 and here it is and again it won't be returned we may have to keep a you know we do keep the stat on how many returns are made against Loop and not many no so Lobos from their own 25 first down and 10 now Devon dampier had an outstanding first half he and Luke weong really carried the load for them dampier 190 yards passing 73 rushing responsible for three touchdowns weong six catches 106 yards and a TD so see what they do here in the third dampier out of the shotgun takes the snap and hands off that's Sanders and he'll surge ahead to about the 29 Now bring up a second down and six so neither team has well I I shouldn't say neither team you know that 51 yd play gave the wild cats a 88 yards rushing yeah lobos's with 115 yards on the ground tonight second down and six New Mexico from its own 29 yd line two receivers left short side of the field one to the right down dampier out of the shotgun but a Man in Motion dampier throws caught weong inside the or outside the 40 and up to about the 43 maybe 44 yd line so a first down for New Mexico there you go Luke weong with his seventh catch tonight yeah it's another timed route Lon again running right underneath his zone defense and and and time rout gain of 14 first down for New Mexico from its own 43 down by 10 points snap to dampier throws and it's picked off on a bounce play cats with the ball the other way stooks to the 39 Arizona takes over trayon stooks will pick it off ball off a lobbo and stooks right there second turnover for the Lobos and the cats take over in New Mexico territory and that's just being in in great position that time because the ball pops up in the air and you got players all around the ball and uh he was in the right place at the right time Shawn Miller was the receiver for New Mexico and had the ball go you know right basically off his chest threw his hands off his chest and there's tradon stooks to pick it off so the cats will take over their Market at the New Mexico 40 first and 10 that was a bit of an adjustment by the defense that time I noticed that they were playing a little bit more Zone coverage that time where they've been pretty much man and coming with a lot of pressure they kind of stayed a little more base defense that time two men left one to the right for faf snap out of the shotgun throws over the middle caught by McMillan inside 30 dodges man to the right side to the 20 1510 nobody will catch him T-Mac In The End Zone touchdown Arizona that's a strike by Noah faf I mean he threw a laser as T-Mac was on a Crossing route and he did the rest just ripped right through the defense untouched to the end zone Great Play Again by the Arizona offense well add 40 yards to that big play list and the Wildcats lead it 40 to 24 he may have 400 yards I said it earlier he may get that well I can tell you faf has his sixth 300 yd game passing oh smokes and now McMillan at 248 receiving and here's Loop for the extra point well the cats made the Lobos pay for that turnover Loops extra point up and good and so with 1226 to go in the third it's Arizona 41 New Mexico 24 Loos will get the ball back I you know last week against Montana State you know the Lobos they ended up losing that g that game of course they were up 31 to 14 yeah going to the fourth quarter and ended up losing that ball game and I wasn't going to immediately draw comparisons but yeah well here they are now all of a sudden find themselves down by two scores and I mean you know what turn turnovers I mean that those that's the one thing they were playing so efficiently in the first you know in the first half um and and and would remain turnover free but just like that you give a turnover up and it's a that's a big swing really quickly well the wild cats have scored the last four well you go back to the the second quarter uh McMillan 708 yd catch Loop 46 yd field goal connley 51 yd run and now T-Mac a 40 yd catch and New Mexico has not been able to answer Loop to kickoff and again over the in line and Lobos at their own 25 first and 10 Drive summary brought to you by Jack forer Tyron autoare since 1960 here to get you there one play 40 yards it took 9 seconds that's a heck of a time in the the 40 when you think well for you and I yeah no I'm starting to think teamm may not be human I'm not sure let's pause 10 seconds for station identification this is Wildcat football from Arizona Sports Enterprises kcub Tucson accumulus Media Station we have the Arizona Wildcats covered on game day like no one else we are Wildcats radio 129 first down dampier throwing on the run to the right and it's caught out at the 34 yd line diving catch by Ryan Davis and one official said yes the other one said no so let's see I think no I think it's no I think it's no yeah yeah one so one official called it good the other one said nope he had a better angle so take it back to the 25 it's second down and 10 yeah I I've I've noticed this these last the the other Series in this series Arizona's kind of they've kind of backed off of the aggressiveness where they were coming coming with pressure every play they're just rushing for and they're dropping back in coverage now trying to really forcing New Mexico to work their way down the field now all right I think we're going to get a on this one all right so they are going to review this clock stop with 1219 to go third quarter Arizona 41 and New Mexico 24 cats back here next Saturday night na coming to town 7:00 kickoff don't forget on Monday night we'll take a look back at this game and look ahead as well with the Brent Brennan radio show on many of these same stations or if you're here in Tucson we invite you to come on by join us in person at Union Public House from 6:00 to 7: also say thank you to our longtime sponsor Desert Diamond Casino proud partner of the Arizona Wildcats with four convenient locations open 24/7 Desert Diamond Casino is an Enterprise at the ton of nation all right they're looking at it that ball moved it moved when he when he hit the ground his body you can't see it from this angle but from the other angle the ball moved when he hit the ground all right we'll see what our officials and that's you know I I should mention that as well that now that the Wildcats are in a new conference uh they will have new officials and some of them have moved over from the the Pack 12 but uh Big 12 officials and um that includes tonight so a lot of unfamiliar names and maybe that's the way it's supposed to be you don't want the officials to be you don't want to be too comfortable right right or maybe they don't want to be too comfortable that's the trueth okay yeah all right I think the fish who said no he had the best view of it the one behind him he didn't see the one who was looking right at it CAU the ball was moving yeah he had it in his hands but when he hit the ground it moved with his body I I I I'm going to call this one okay well but I've been wrong already so uh yeah but you're at 97.3% accuracy over the length of your broadcasting career which I think is pretty good I believe you lead the nation in that department and no one else knows that but you though bur well no I brag well it is they are taking a long look at it they are I you have to look at the one there was the one angle where you saw the ball move when he hit the ground well the other thing is look like they're going to give it to him New Mexico is acting like they're going to give it to him the other thing I'm looking at did his helmet hit the sideline before was that the first thing that hit the ground was his helmet which would have been out of bounds see that's a good point too so multiple angles they're putting them all up on the video board here I think the ball moved okay here we go after further review the ruling on the field stands second down all right no catch there you go Lamont chalk another one up up so second and 10 Lobos from their own 25 early third quarter while cats up 4124 two receivers right wide side of the field one to the left tight end left as well out of the backfield in motion is Jacobs now he'll line up as a slot receiver to the right trips right now for dampier who's out of an empty set from the left hash dampier claps his hands a couple of times waits for the snap snap count weights takes it back to throw here comes the pressure flushed out of the pocket rolling to the right and he'll run it 25 out to the 30 and out of bounds that's good defense so that was a heck of a job there by Dalton Johnson to run him down it it really was cuz that that that could have gone a long way but Dalton took a great angle on him and basically hit him and forced him out of bounds so a gain of five and it's now third down and five his Arizona lost contain on that play that could have been a a really long run all right dampier out of the shotgun two men left one right short side of the field tight in right dampier will take the snap short drop fires the pass caught first down over the 40 and stuck hard by the way was Nick trio trio there for the catch and the first down out of the 41 and he's tackled immediately by gunar Maldonado yeah they're doing a great job just that was a timed route right in the right between the zone and just excellent accurate pass so first down Loos from their own 41 Trail linge 4124 this is their second offensive possession of the half the first one ended in an interception damp out of the shotgun here on First and 10 will take the snap fake the hand off roll left he'll run it and then slide down at about the 48 they're going to throw a flag now see I don't like that now yes he went into the slide the quarterback's allowed to do that as a safety measure but when when the defend is already in motion yeah how do you stop no that that that's that's a terrible call I hope they review that cuz he almost fell on top of him it wasn't like he went through after the play dead ball personal foul late hit defense number five 15 yds added to the end of the run first down that's a ridiculous call yeah I mean I get the I I understand protecting the quarterback in that sense so he goes into the slide and you know Jacob Manu was was headed for him there's no way he could have stopped though EXA yeah all right well we won't win that argument first and 10 Lobos at the Arizona 39 Arizona's fifth penalty of the night they go trips right leave the left side open on the short side of the field dampier out of the shotgun will take the snap play fake to Sanders rolling right under pressure throws it downfield and it's caught at the 29 yd line that'll be good for the first down down by NOP it should be good enough for the first down by Ryan Davis and then a little pushing and shoving after the play so gain of 10 first and 10 New Mexico at the Arizona 29 tell you what you know dampier weong Davis they' they've got some excellent skill players he's accurate I mean that that's a great throw Danier hands off to Sanders around the right hand side has to beat a man he does down to the 20 and bumped out of bounds Sanders now'll mark it at the 19 so again that should be an it is 10 yd gain first down once again got Arizona off balance I mean they're just they're mixing their offense up very well doing a great job of of passing it the short passing game getting the ball out of his hands quickly and then mixing in some good runs and then dampier you know pulling the ball on these you know run pass options so first and 10 Lobos at the Arizona 19 New Mexico down 4124 damp will take the snap hand off to Sanders pecking his way down to about the 15 so he'll gain about four on the play bring up his second down in six you know New Mexico has picked to finish 11th in the Mountain West this year they they're much improved they look good again Bronco menal their new coach the guys had success at at BYU at Virginia took a couple years off and and he's back now and making you know early strides here and he hit the transfer portal big time all right second down and six and rolling right to the 10 and inside the 10 down to about the mark it at the eight that's a first down I think I believe so damp here nice run and it should be and it is a first down it'll be first and goal New Mexico well keep in mind they turned the ball over in their opening possession of the third this one they're marching yeah first and goal D will take the snap hand off not well I tell you what pretty strong run there by Sanders might have gotten a couple yards on the play looked like he got stacked up early Sterling Lane with the stop for the cats on the give him one yard on the play so second down and goal at the seven dampier's got Sanders offset right dampier will take the snap keep it rolling to the left now got a man to beat he does to the five to the corner touchdown New Mexico AR's getting blocked they they're not getting off blocks and and he gets to the outside that's that's another nice job by New Mexico just blocking everybody second rushing touchdown tonight for danamp pier the first one went 13 yards that one for seven and that'll get the Lobos here could get him back within 10 the extra point is good DZ Wiki in Kick is up kick is good sponsor don't settle for anything less than the best call now and get it done the right way 10 Place 75 yd Drive in 4 minutes and 24 seconds and Deon D Pierce with a seven ydd run and New Mexico back within 10 now let's go down and uh you know check a couple these stats here total yardage now Arizona 406 New Mexico 383 and I think one thing to to look again is time of possession the Lobos have had the ball almost 11 more minutes than Arizona's had tonight despite the fact the wild cats at the 41 points their big plays have have scored again like you were talking about earlier Lamont a good thing but the flip side of that is the defense has been on the field a lot tonight well and you're seeing the results of that when you put together these 10 and 12 Play drives the defense is gassed and they're getting you know they're they're chasing this guy all around the field he he's uh you know I I know that everybody's going to going to be all over the defense tonight U because they they did give up a lot of yardage but Dan Pierre is he's really um you know he's causing them a lot of problems because you have to respect his ability to run the ball and uh but his his accuracy throwing is what's really been the difference tonight I mean he can he can beat you with his legs but he can stand in the pocket and deliver accurate passes he's played an excellent game won a state championship at s High School up in uh in Scottdale also in his bio he's credited for playing back in uh 2022 for the Tucson Turf 7 on S uh league so he's he's back here you know he wants to prove something in his home state no he's he's given a great account of himself I don't think anyone watching this game is going to have anything bad to say about this performance regardless of the outcome he's played his tail off right stank Kemp to kickoff here and lets it Go Patterson at the goal Line's going to take it and he loves it out to the 15 out to the 20 and almost to the 25 yd line Y jiah Patterson has been fun to watch tonight and it's just game one yeah I'd like to see him get involved in the offensive a little bit as well well the Wildcats have scored a touchdown on their first two drives here of the half and they'll take over at their own 23 first down and 10 leading 41- 31 Noah faf 13- 23 for 318 and four touchdowns tonight he's got two white outs left one to the right and takes the snap out of the shotgun here comes the rush trying to set up the screen it's caught out of the 20 to 25 to the 30 35 over the 40 spinning away near Midfield is Speedy Luke showing why he's nicknam speedy and a first down for the cats he's a big play waiting to happen and that was a screen setup play to him and just like that I mean if if he gets in the if he gets behind the safeties this over well Speedy Luke who uh now a junior out of Los Angeles 153 yards on the ground last season there a different set of receivers are in the game now looks like they're giving T-Mac a blow right now and he deserves it gain of 26 to Speedy Luke first down Arizona from its own 49 Here Comes The Blitz f f under Center the hand off it's fumbled and then Luke's going to fall on it to uh preserve exch the ball for the Wildcats they'll lose a yard I believe on the play you know you put the ball on the ground you're coming out of the game and just like that that just uh H everyone is clamoring for Speedy Luke because he's such an exciting player now T-Mac back in as well and Chris Hunter who was in the last play will exit Malachi Riley on the field they go trips right Riley the wide right and T-Mac the lone man to the left fa F out of the shotgun now on second down and 11 pressure coming again from New Mexico Quick Pass caught by McMillan and he's tackled immediately maybe the best tackle on T-Mac tonight and that's at the 47 yd line they got some positive yardage out of it and uh Noah paa Gates who has been busy tonight for New Mexico he's out of Gilbert made the tackle there so mark it at the New Mexico 47 yard line third down now and six for Arizona know they'll send connley out as a wide receiver to the right side trips right empty set now for faf so he's got three right two left ball just inside the left hash on third down and six faf may be checking off quick drop looking to throw rolling to the right now being chase still has time turns the corner now he's inside the 45 to the 40 and Dives for the first down well F can run now I know maybe they don't want him to a lot but I tell you what you give him a space like that he'll make you pay oh he showed the quickness right there he's been working on his speed a lot too he got a chance to show it right there he had a receiver but he said know what you know what I'm going to show you guys I can do this too all right gives the Wildcats a first down at the New Mexico 36 yd line 10 yard gain for Noah faf Wild Cat's up here 4131 508 to go in the third single setb now receivers left and right two tight ends and faf on a handoff and that will go to connley it'll jump over a man and dive to the 32 I like this I like this drive because again you know were talking about the explosives but I like sometimes it's good to to keep that defense on the field and and kind of wear them out a little bit run the ball down their throat a little bit gain of four for quy Conley second down and six Arizona from the New Mexico 32 yd line M melan wide right single man left faf under Center single setb ball right hash faf handoff and into the muck goes croski Merritt but not much there nothing is there it'll be third down and six yeah literally the entire New Mexico defense is in was on the tackle that time they just brought everybody up to the line and just sold out to stop the run led by Gabe Lopez transfer out of Washington state and we got an injured Wildcat on the field so they're going to stop the clock here with 412 to go in the third and Arizona leading by 10 can't see who it is at this angle he's on his back I believe it's one of the linemen but uh we'll tell you when we come back take a break 412 to go third cats 41 Lobos 31 this is Wildcat football from Arizona Sports left tackle Rina Tua to to Tua sorry TOA to there you go and uh walks off pretty much under his own power but now Matthew ldo who's a true freshman out of AP poo high in Glendale on the field and could take over at left tackle he had a red shirt freshman replaced by a true freshman yeah that's always a little nerve-wracking especially in a game like this well you know you looked again at some of the things some the question marks for the wild cats entering the season and you know that defensive line uh was one and they bulked up there with a lot of depth uh you replacing geord Morgan certainly big on the the offensive line and uh you know the running back situation I mean yeah you knew there were things that uh we were anxious to see here and the Wildcats have been able they tonight Arizona's run for 101 yards tonight I mean the the big play the pass plays have been so key uh they've also given up 158 yards rushing got speedies speedies in the game again right now Speedy alert I wonder if savan is going to move over to the left tackle here he is at left they got they got savan at left and they brought L over to the right side okay so turn to savan the the junior out of American Samoa and of course he's got some mileage so they'll they'll trust the veteran there in that key spot at left tackle and L will work on the right side wild cats have a third down and six at the lobbo 32 leading by 10 with 412 to go in the third and line it up fa out of an empty set with trips left two man to the right wild cats on third down tonight are five of eight here's the snap F straight back to throw over the middle caught by ban inside the 20 Dodges the man at the 15 Cuts back to the 10 he's at the five dies for the goal line he is short by half a yard this is ridiculous I mean that might have been the best play of the night it wasn't the longest play but Teto and McMillan my goodness what moves I think that's a touchdown I really I think he I think that ball broke the plane but I don't know all right well we'll see if they take a look at it I think they should he he reached it out and the officials called it short so the Wildcats have it first and goal inside the one yd line faf power eye now with Conley behind him and I think it's a touchdown okay New Mexico has called their first time out of the half oh maybe though no now the officials can no his elbow his elbow hit okay all right that's H down okay well the lobo's called timeout here yeah because they're about to go down all right well just making sure you never know now let's go back to the the the power eye okay because this is a formation that uh that Bren Brennan put in this year and you mentioned Kaden Luke who running to the left this time of Noah ffid more or less is a fullback he is a fullback he's 511 239 uh he's out of Tucson went to CDO high school and um they won the the 4A championships last year and so this is you know one reason they recruited him was to play this position he may not get a ton of carries out of that set but uh it's a very valuable spot oh yeah now they move Jonah back over to the right side this time so okay and Luke is in the game by the way all right here we go out of the power eye faid to take the snap and he will hand off to connley to the right side and he Ducks into the end zone touchdown Arizona there's a flag though okay flag the so the fireworks go off Defense number 89 that penalty is declined touchdown well it Con Cony touchdown for the Wildcats 4731 Arizona Conley's second touchdown of the night first one was 51 yards this one they'll give him one yard even though it wasn't quite that long yeah just ran on the right side behind big Jonah and W Moy and he just pushed they just pushed the line back so Loop in for the extra point kick is up kick is good 3113 to go in the third Arizona 48 and New Mexico 31 and the Wildcats continue to keep the low bows at Bay Arizona has scored now on all three second half possessions and dating back to the you know the the second quarter they have kind of Taken control of this thing yeah so Lobos Now find themselves down again 48 to3 won our scoring Drive summary is brought to you by Jack fer Tyrant Auto Care since 1960 here to get you there 8 plays 77 yards four minutes and 43 seconds again PA Conley with the one-yard touchdown run he is second of the night puts the Wildcats at 483 yards of total offense but here's the the best news Lamont we've talked about it quite a bit tonight time of that drive 4 minutes and 43 seconds that's what they needed to do and and and and what I really liked about that drive they actually ran the ball a little bit in that drive and had you know kind of a physical presence on that drive and and that's what you really need to do is particularly when you get to the fourth quarter you want to start wearing on that defense and eventually you want them to break as I mentioned earlier uh you know New Mexico had the big lead over Montana State last week they were up 3114 entering the fourth quarter and we outscored 21 nothing in the fourth and lost that ball game well I I'm not inferring that it's the exact same thing tonight but the wild cats have found some better Rhythm here in the second half as Loop kicks one over the end zone again and so the Lobos will start at throwing 25 first and 10 Coors Light Mountain Cole refreshment choose chill official corporate sponsor of Arizona Athletics celebrate responsibly yeah I think the Arizona defense wants to get some wins here they've gota they got to figure out a way to get New Mexico off the field and and they know they've got to improve they're going to have a lot of film to look at this week Deon dampier 18 of 28 for 225 yds two touchdowns two interceptions in fact two of their last three possessions ended in interceptions and he's trapped there the ball is loose and that is a fumble and let's see who's got it it's picked up by Arizona Wildcats with the ball touchdown Wildcats oh my that ball got knocked knock loose from dampier it was rolling near the far sideline MGK and who was going to get it the Wildcats picked it up they'll call it about a 22 yd return I think they're going to give it to Maris oh Maris Rose kibu scooped it up Manu Jacob Manu I think knocked it away yeah I mean this is this is what you got to do I mean you know they got themselves for possession a turnover that's a big time play gamechanging play for Arizona Trey Smith knocked it away nice big Trey and so gross keru Richard sophomore transfer from Louisville and now the officials want to look again how many replays have we had tonight they sure like them I think the fans are feeling the same way we are it's like I just wanted to make sure he was down I guess maybe I don't know oh if was possibly down well okay well we got to look at it then yeah saw I saw the ball squirt out but yeah I mean he was hit was his the left knee is not down at that point and we're shielded from the right knee can't be down based on the angle of his body yeah so oh it's out oh did he throw it though well maybe call it a call it an incomplete his arm may have gone forward that's what they're looking at all right and his arm did kind of go forward I don't know I think he lost the ball well by how the I think he lost the ball well the good news about the replay system is you get it right yeah true yeah his knee never touched the ground so the only thing this could be ruled is an incomplete pass that's a fumble that's a fumble right he try he he was trying to get his arm forward but he got hit and I the the way the ball kind of went out I think that's a fumble his knee did not hit the ground either he was trying to stay up 259 to go in the third the Wildcats well do they lead 54 to 31 we don't know exactly yet it's close it's he tried he was trying to throw it but he got hit when he was doing it that's why I think it was a fumble but hey another reminder Brent Brandon radio show Monday night 6 to 7 Union public house here in Tucson many of the same stations had a great time last week after review it was determined that the quarterback's arm was coming forward with the ball in control it's an incomplete pass be second down New Mexico oh well they destroyed the ball with the turnover sword okay I guess well just keep it for later I guess yeah maybe we could get one maybe that one we could get because it doesn't count you know they got to throw it away well I thought it was a turnover so let me keep it at least you can have it all right so Lobos catch a break and football back to the 25 it'll be second down in 10 with 259 to go in the third this game is now almost 3 hours old dampier takes the snap flag is down either false start or off sides I think it's off sides I think that uh big chuba he couldn't stop that load from going forward all right here's the call on that yeah offside Defense number 92 5yd penalty first down chuba mayi yeah and uh he is large human being yeah and he's lost weight by the way yeah he has he think he's lost like 40 lbs he said he was like over he said he was like 400 when he got here I was like whoa listed now at 349 I felt 349 all right hand off going nowhere nice tackle it was second down and five out of the 30 after the penalty and the wild cats stuffed that in a hurry and there's Genesis Smith who's having a nice game tonight so it'll be third and five now for the Lobos at their own 30 so New Mexico here in the second half interception touchdown and now this is their third possession dampier Deon dampier who has been their most dangerous weapon tonight 2 125 yds passing 97 rushing will take the snap out of an empty back field trips right two men left dampier backpedaling to throw now rolling to the right still rolling to the right throws deep downfield and and has a man and it's incomplete just off the fingertips of Nick tro and I tell you what that was a heck of a throw on the Run he's good put it right on his hands and Trio just couldn't hang on well Marcus uh Gro kbu had something to do with that he he continued to battle even though he was beat on the play he stayed with it and when the ball hit his hands he swatted it away I mean that's that's what you want to see your defensive backs do not pass interfere not pass cuz you're beat but just continue stay in position and make a play on the ball and that's what he did yeah exceptionally well played yeah so fourth down and New Mexico will punt here's Aaron Rodriguez line of scrimmage again the New Mexico 30 false start so another whistle here ball start offense number 34 5yd penalty fourth down J Z is stabilized on defense and then now they've made a another stop I mean this is what they need well sometimes you know you need that halftime break and yeah figure things out yeah game one and I think that's the advantage the Lobos had they already played a game yeah and I noticed they're not subbing as much this this half and and I think that they've they've kind of found gone with a kind of a the same group on the defensive side Jack lutel deep for the wild cats punt almost blocked maybe got a little piece of it and it's going to take a backwards bounce did a hit a wild cat if it did then the Lobos recover and they'll have the football it did hit an Arizona player yep so it hit an Arizona player think in the back of the foot it did and the Lobo spotted that that made it a live ball they made the recovery and New Mexico gets another break wow they'll keep the football now at the Arizona 42 that's just one of those it's just an unfortunate play it it's really nothing he could have done differently the ball the ball dropped hit him in his back you you maybe want your sometimes your your uh the punt returner can say stuff like poison to get out of the way or look up but there's really nothing he could have done there all right so here's the snap handoff Sanders left side trap can't get away maybe a yard on the play well played by the Arizona defense this time they were they were all in position that time uh were not fooled by the play action they tried to get hit him with a reverse that time and Arizona was right there second down a nine for the Lobos at the Arizona 41 less than 2 minutes to go in the third quarter Wildcats up 48- 31 Luke weong back into the ball game he's been their go-to guys seven catches tonight 120 yards in a touchdown dampier out of the shotgun will take the snap pump fake looking deep looking right looking left now rolling to the left pump fake again now he's going to run it and step out of bounds good coverage downfield he'll gain some positive yardage but Out of Bounds at the the 38 refs are keeping that flag in there I've seen some holding in there and they're just not calling it so third down call it third and six here New Mexico tonight on third down four of eight ball left has two man wide to the right side one to the left damper checking over the defense checking his play sheet as well takes the snap out of the shotgun weong in motion he'll fire the pass downfield incomplete went right through the hands of tro yeah they've hit Arizona on that pass all night long but they're kind of you can see the defensive backs are kind of they're playing that that pass play now and he had to try to throw it in an area and he just couldn't he couldn't fit it in there so it's fourth down but you're in a spot you're you're down 48 to 31 you've got to go for it here on Fourth and six the Lobos will do that yeah yeah they're in a no man flam you don't want to punt it and you definitely don't want to try to kick a field goal here with their kicker pretty good Jacobs in motion out of the back field damp Pier steps up now maybe to change the play nine on the play clock steps back now S three men left one to the right dampier looking left looking left firing the pass over the middle and a diving catch is made at the 21 but a flag is down and maybe they found holding what do you think yep it's holding all right well you were waiting for that well I've been seeing them holding like every time on the defensive end every time he's tried to pull away and go back the ref's like I didn't see nothing here's the call I think they want to check with uh Bren Brenan here see what they want to do holding offense number 76 10yd penalty fourth down well now it is fourth and forever and I think they're going to have to punt it away now yeah so but you know they the officials know do listen to you lont I'm not sure during the game or not but you know you were calling for holding and you got it well I've seen two obvious ones and then just yeah okay I think they're looking at dampier and not that you know what's going on with the line all right Rodriguez to punt and gets it off tries to hang it up there and it's going to take an Arizona Bounce and Ball's no it's out of bounds well they're going to see at about the 14 I think that's where he touched it so at the 14 and that's where the Wildcats I believe will take over here no yeah they will put it down there at the 14 okay 7 seconds left in the third quarter it'll be first and 10 Arizona at uh their own 14 yd line leading 48-31 and probably just one play here Noah faf 16 of 26 381 for touchdowns he's under Center crosy Merritt behind him croski Merritt will get the hand off right side breaks the tackle over the 20 still going spun away and gets all the way out to the 30 yd line for a first down gain of 16 that's a good way to end of the third quarter yeah good powerful run be first and 10 wild cats when we come back going to the 4th Arizona 48 New Mexico 31 this is Wildcat football from the from Arizona Sports Enterprises hey Wildcats kickoff is coming Arizona do so Noah faita tonight 381 yards and four touchdowns now his High game at USC remember he had five touchdowns yeah and also five against Arizona State um he's gone over 300 yards now passing for the sixth time in his career Tetro McMillan on the other hand nine catches 285 yards and four touchdowns tonight for McMillan and uh for him that is now a new career high in yardage his previous best had been 266 at ASU last year on 11 catches and his uh his four touchdowns tonight obliterated his previous season I have two yeah he's been amazing tonight well we sometimes you know I think about this that you you have expectations going in you don't want to build it too high no I think we may not see him for the rest of the night if this if the game goes the way it is what Arizona would like to do is is run the ball take the air out of it put together a drive and and and put these guys away all right first down wild cats from their own 30 and faita under Center two wide outs to the left he'll take the snap and handoff looking for some room and nothing there right at the line of scrimmage and so Roski Merritt with no gain against his former teammates it'll be second down and 10 and another thing and I'm just I'm projecting here is that it would be nice uh if as well maybe to get Cole Tannon bomb into the ball game or Bren Dorman yeah they're going to need that for sure but I think they want to make sure that this one is in hand before no absolutely yeah yeah but I I agree with what you're saying all right second down and 10 Wildcats trips left single man right for feet out of the shotgun looking over that defense again he'll take the snap connley in the back field he'll throw left and caught out on the flat by Malachi Riley sheds off a man and does a nice job getting a couple more yards out of the play yeah Malachi Riley showing some sweet feet on that play mark it at the 37 yd line of on the so third down bring up a third down and three now for the Wildcats after a gain of seven one minute into the fourth quarter Wildcats up here 48- 31 Bobby Arnold made the the stop for New Mexico and if not Malachi might still be running so third and three fit out of the shotgun two men right one left Noah back to throw fires near side wide open at the 42 yard line McMillan jumps over a man over the 50 into New Mexico territory that was more a s side step than a jump but just the same I mean come on yeah that was a beautiful move too I mean you might want to cover T-Mac again they Blitz off that side T-Mac wide open in the flats uh threw the ball to him shakes the guy out of his shoes and gets an another 10 yards maybe after the play but what a what a what a play by T-Mac well what a game by T-Mac yeah right wow so first down Wildcats at the New Mexico 44 yd line faf from the gun a little delayed handoff to Conley squeezes through spins and Dives to the 41 G about three on the play that was a 19 yd play to Teto McMillan putting him over 300 yd receiving tonight oh my goodness on 10 catches he has a 176 yards after the catch my goodness he's going to be triple covered I guarantee you for the rest of the season these guys I mean they decided they were going to play man on them and and I mean that's what you get second down and seven for the Wildcats at the lobbo 41 faf under Center he's going a hand off right a little hesitation and then spinning away inside the 35 and that's crossy Merritt to mark it at the uh 32 that'll be good enough for a first down and Arizona is doing what they want to do now in the fourth quarter you can see when they decide that they want to run the ball they have the ability to do it and they've got the backs to do it um and now they're taking the air out of out of the ball and they're just basically running it cats 130 yards rushing tonight faf under Center again just under 12 to go here in the fourth Arizona up 4831 ffid will take the snap handoff crossi mer comes to the right side breaks the tackle 25 down to the 20 15 to the 10 and out of bounds with a flag down a touchdown oh no he's out of bounds stepped out about the four there's a flag there though yep and that looks like he's in the back field too that's a heck of a run though I don't care what anybody says that was an amazing run holding offense number 73 10yd penalty and four from the spot of the foul The Freshman first down Matthew ldo The Freshman that's going to happen yeah so instead of first and goal wild cats will have to head backwards now to the 42 or check that 38 so that's where now the football here third or uh first down at the lobbo 38 what a run I'm I'm stuck on that run I I love to see a beautiful run like that well broke a tackle got to the right hit the Jets yeah ffid out of the gun flushed out of the pocket rolling to the left sets up fires deep headed for the end zone that ball is knocked Away In The End Zone incomplete Riley the intended receiver he had a shot at it Bryson Taylor Made a nice job nice job down there for New Mexico knocking the ball away yeah Riley has been a deep Threat all camp and that's that's really what he's been done a good job of but that that play it was kind of it was kind of a tough pass to complete because he threw it late and and both of them were looking back at the ball and he had an opportunity to Taylor had an opportunity to really make a play on the ball as well so Riley out T-Mac back in Conley out Speedy Luke returns Wildcats here with a second down now in 16 at the 38 McMillan in motion right to left fa out of the gun rolls to the left steps back throws the pass and it's caught down near the 22 that's right about the first down marker so we'll see that's nice catch down there by Chris Hunter the Richard sophore out of New Orleans and that would be his catch first career catch that's a first down too a beautiful job of Noah faf though just again he's under pressure and he stays so calm kind of create buys himself some time and just flicks the ball on a perfect strike third down and one for the Wildcats now just inside the the 20 yd line power eye ffo will take the snap and they blow a dead timeout New Mexico with 1031 to go in the fourth so we will take time here Arizona 48 and New Mexico 31 back in a moment this is Wildcat football from Arizona Sports Enterprises hey Wildcat fans Arizona football is here catch head coach BR Window Depot has deserve Goldberg and Osborne 1800 the eagle hey Wildcat fans Arizona football is here hey wild fans Arizona football is here catch head coach Bren Brennan as the [Music] wild all right 10:31 to go here in the fourth the wild cats up 48-31 and they'll have a third and one again at the New Mexico 23 yd line it's been a big second half for the Wildcats and really on both sides of the ball them on that was I know refreshing to see in particular for the defense yeah they made some nice adjustments at the half and and really kind of stabilized what they were doing because um they were they were being they were they took the approach that they were going to pressure damp and uh early on he was just you know he kept scrambling and um he was beating him with his legs beating him with great accuracy in the second half Arizona decided to to kind of maybe pull pull back a little bit on the pressure um be more base in their defense and um just let the guys play football and and and they they really have done a much better job and and just have been in position more times than not and I really think they they they've really uh taken advantage of their opportunities in this half Dalton Johnson eight tackles tonight for the wild cats uh trayon stooks with seven Diario Davis with five Jacob Manu with five those are your leaders on the the defensive side for the Wildcats stooks has a interception tonight along with Genesis Smith and um also uh gross killer brw's broken up a couple passes tonight and I got a feeling he's going to yeah play a key role this season well when you got tario Davis on the other side you the other DB is going to get a lot of work uh because people are going to continue to test him because tario is such a shutdown corner but if you notice ker Bru's never been out of position on any play tonight I mean he gave up a play or two but he's always in great position and I think he has a ton of ability and I really think that you know as the season goes on you're going to see him continue to improve all right after the timeout third and one Wildcats power eye now for faid Conley behind him Luke to the right that's ke Luke and the throw towards the end zone trying to find McMillan and it's just over his head incomplete pretty good coverage down there yeah by PA Gates that's Noah PA Gates and he's called his name a lot tonight for New Mexico on the defensive side I like that you got manto man again tmac had him in position he just he just he just missed the ball but he was in position to get it so fourth and one they got to go you could easily kick the field goal but I think they're going to go for it here no they got you got to get this this this is a pride play right here so McMillan late to the Huddle so he'll get the play from faf they'll line up in that power eye again connley behind faid here's the snap handoff goes to connley right side got the first down and more he breaks it he's gone he's in the end zone touchdown Arizona exactly same play that he scored on earlier uh he had a lead Blocker in front of him blows a hole open and Conley just goes literally untouched for off the power play for the touchdown how about the hattick for Conley tonight three touchdowns and the Wildcats are up 54 to 31 and boy have they changed things around here in the second half they've now outscored New Mexico 27-7 and the extra point upcoming yeah how about that offensive line too yeah well every and and the coaches say well first of all the extra point by Tyler Loop it is up and good coaches tell us all the time your most Improvement comes between game one and game two New Mexico's improved a lot from game one to game two now the wild cats will have that opportunity go back and look at the film but even one half to the other just see a lot of a lot of better things absolutely and again you know you think you're one thing in Camp um when you haven't played anybody and and remember again we've got we've got a new staff and they're still working out working things out um but you know they showed some maturity at halftime made some adjustments um kind of figured out what group of guys they were going to go with stabilize themselves and the offense has come in and just really taking over the game and the defense has done the same uh they they've created a turnover um done a much better job at stopping uh the New Mexico uh attacked and so Arizona has really turned it around and and kind of blown New Mexico out in this half Drive summary brought to you by Jack furer Ty in Auto Care since 1960 here to get you there 11 plays 86 yds 4 minutes and 49 seconds quy connley with his third touchdown run of the night that one from 23 yards and the Wildcats lead 55- 31 so again uh using the clock you know their last two drives now have gone we'll have to go back and look but uh they' they've had two sustained drives here now in the second half and I think that's yeah that's key so kickoff by loop again over the end line so New Mexico with the ball back at its own 25 first and 10 so Arizona now has scored four straight touchdowns here in the second half yeah so I'd say firm control with 1018 to go I think so you may you may start to see some backups in here now well that would be a good thing especially early in the season get some guys some added experience yeah you can you can never get enough experience for your for your backups all right Dan Pier out of the shotgun Sanders Sanders to his right in the back field two men stacked right one to the left hand off nothing and that was uh Quick Pass quick tackle I should say right at the line of scrimmage by Trey Smith now Trey Smith again he was all Mountain West First Team all Mountain West at San Jose State last year yeah and out of Mesa Red Mountain High School I think he has NFL potential he's he's been he's been really good since he's got here second and 10 Lobos at their own 25 Jacobs in motion out of the backfield so now an empty set for damp here trips right one man left short side of the field dampier standing in his own 20 short drop looking right rolling right flushed out of the pocket being chased throws on the run and throws it away into the Arizona bench Arizona was in a Zone def defense that time and what what was the tell is when they ran the guy when they ran a guy in motion no one went with him and so Arizona dropped back into coverage and and there was really no one there that was open and dampier was forced to just throw that away that was a coverage basically coverage it wasn't a sack but great coverage should mention Isaiah Johnson was chasing him he was yeah and U Isaiah 61 311 yeah third third and 10 sorry third and 10 then out of the shotgun two men stacked left one to the right damper looking right throwing right and that's incomplete and things starting to unravel a bit here now and reminiscent for New Mexico unfortunately for them yeah what happened to him last week there is a flag down there a late flag that's probably a personal foul from somebody oh Danier thought he was off the field now we'll see after the play on Sportsman like conduct number 91 defense 15yd penalty automatic first down that's number 91's First on Sports like conduct well we just mentioned Isaiah Johnson in the good sense now the bad so he will go to the sideline and probably hear about that oh he is aen is giving it to him right now I just saw him said go sit down I know aina's tick cuz we had there was a stop on the play and that's a selfish play yeah so automatic first down from the 40 damper low snap picks it up almost sacked gets out of trouble roll right throws as he's hit incomplete over the head of Sanders and the Wildcats all kinds of pressure on dampier that time yeah I think they needed to have a flop rule on damp here he tried to flop at the end there he got smacked early on but then he got up and Manu was kind of by him and he he decide to flop so it'll be second down and 10 for the Lobos at their own 40 916 to go in the fourth cats lead 55-31 they're going to put three men in that triangle set to the left one to the right and those three men on the short side of the field dampier out of the shotgun he'll take the snap dump it off to Jacobs on the Run looking to beat Dalton Johnson and he can't Dalton just chases him down and throws him out of bounds up at the 46 it's a nice job Johnson catching catching him in the flats and and making a nice open field tackle now dton Johnson he's not one of the captains on this year's team but he's one of their their leaders one of their vocal leaders yeah and a pretty good football player too he's a very good player so it's third down that's a gain of six third down and four now for the Lobos at their own 46 yd line two receivers left one right damp out of the shotgun they'll take the snap looking left throwing left it's caught by bruckler the tight end and that's enough for the no it's not enough for the first down no going to be short in fact uh we're going to mark it they gave him all the way to the 4 n so it'll be fourth and one but um yeah they got to go for it lobo's down 5531 Jak a Manu and trayon stooks on the last tackle so fourth down the F first time tonight that uh Lobos will go for it on fourth down line up at that condensed set damp here under Center takes the snap hand off I don't know second effort they got it yeah boy I believe that was Jacob so we'll see when he gets up here yeah the second they had him they stood him up but uh yeah he wanted it more yeah so I thought thought the wild cats had him but Jacobs had able to wiggle out of trouble and get the first down so new set of downs here for the Lobos with 7 and a half to go in the fourth cats up 5531 dampier tonight 234 yd passing 100 ydd rushing Davis in motion left to right dampier back to throw now in trouble now rolling left he's going to run with the football near sideline got a first down down the near sideline inside the 30 met hard by Dalton Johnson and tackled at the 23 yd line took a hard hit there at the end so damp here and he's already had 100 yards rushing add to it there he's averaged seven yards a carry tonight yeah we're still very impressed with him I mean Arizona's really put the clamps on him in this in this second half and he's still making plays I mean he he creates things with his legs 126 now on the ground for Devon dampier rush for 34 last week first down at the Arizona 23 dampier will hand off Jacobs rolling left tries to turn the corner Runs Out of Space out of bounds inside the 20 to about the 18 and chased out by tario Davis that's a perfect example there of of why what what Arizona is doing differently early on in the game they kept running themselves out of position but that time um you saw Trey Smith do an excellent job of setting the edge and really forcing that play out of bounds gain of four second and six New Mexico at the Arizona just inside the 19 dampier out of the gun will take the snap throw near side and it's caught there by weong he's down to the 10 Cannon out of bounds with a first down and again we haven't seen a lot the wild cats have done a much better job now Flags down at the end of that play and he's kicked out of the game that's his second personal foul he's going to be out [Music] so going to say they've done a much better job against weong here in the second half all right let's pause 10 seconds here for station identification this is Wildcat football from Arizona Sports Enterprises the play kyub Tucson accumulus Media Station we have the Arizona wild cats covered on game day like no one else we are Wildcats radio 129 yep he's ejected all right tario Davis ejected for his second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty tonight oh my gosh and uh he'll be reminded of that oh he's going to hear it Dwayne will be waiting for him I promise you so 558 left here in the fourth first and go New Mexico at the Arizona 5 and tario goes straight to the bench and we'll have a seat there handoff goes to Sanders up the middle and he's bent back after a gain of maybe a yard number two STS trayon stooks in there for the tackle number 12 Genesis good defensive play that time by stooks shutting that play Down doing an excellent job of just kind of you know coming down the line of scrimmage and making a tackle in the back field second and goal at the uh the four for the Lobos down to 520 left in this game and they've got a long ways to go but looks like are they a man short now or they had too many out there now they're going to run somebody off the field and you can't do that yeah it was too late they'd broken the Huddle and then they tried to get a guy off the field yeah just a little discombobulated having tario out of the game all of a sudden you got two two new guys on the on the field and and they they got confused so the officials will huddle but flags all over the place clock at 508 and again we want to thank RightWay heating and cooling for being tonight's gametion offense broke the huddle with 12 players 5yd penalty offense second down do not settle for anything less than the best call now and get it done the right way yeah one of their linemen okay which you kind of Wonder okay you have five linemen right yeah so how do you get a six to one out there I know I'm you know sometimes you got tight ends but this was one of their offensive linemen that came running out yeah so somehow they got six into the Huddle so take the ball back to the nine it'll be second and goal now at the Arizona 9 white out one left one right dampier out of the shotgun Sanders to his left in the back field here's the snap play fake little fade towards the corner and it's caught but out of bounds so weong made the catch but he was way out of bounds it'll be third and goal now at the Arizona 9 with 450 showing yeah that was reter freshman Emanuel carnelly on the coverage there that time and did a nice job all right using the side line as a Defender and kind of forcing him out Carley out of Antioch California yeah he's replaced tario so third down now the officials talking about something again well because of the the the many replays we've had tonight uh this going be a long long game we're at three and 1 half hours right now now wow that's cuz they throwing the ball so much too so third down Jacobs now to the right of damp who takes the snap fires towards the end zone it's caught for the touchdown well they dampier wasn't ready for the football but Caleb Medford just made his first catch of the night and it's good for a touchdown he's a junior out of Henderson Texas yeah excellent pass by Dan Pierre threw like a a a a rope onto the end zone and yeah great play so with 444 left to go it's Arizona 55 New Mexico 37 and the extra point upcoming and looks like they're going to go for two here yep dampier will take the snap rolling to the right looking to throw dumps it off it's caught Sanders in for two make it a 5539 score with 444 to go timeout back in a moment this is Wildcat football from Arizona Sports Enterprises hey Wildcat fans the 2024 football season is here and SeatGeek Lobo so it's 5539 Arizona with 444 to go and you never say never but I we'll see if they go for the onside kick here I think they they they may be thinking like that I mean they went for two there so they're they're telling you that we're still trying to win the game so it would not surprise me while wild cats back home here against na next Saturday starting at 700 p.m. the Lobos get a week off and then they'll go play Auburn on the road and you know the first half of their schedule is pretty brutal you got you know Wildcats here tonight Auburn on the road in two weeks yeah then Fresno stayed at home and Bulldog's always good uh their rivalry game at New Mexico state and then Air Force at home that's halfway through the second half of the the schedule they face only one team that finished with a winning record last season so I'm I'm impressed with the execution the level of execution with this New Mexico team I mean this is a brand new staff brand new offense and theyve they've they've been very efficient and their quarterback I think he's going to I mean it would not surprise me if he's an allconference quarterback uh this season CU he's he's really good regardless of you know the outcome of this game he's good Deon dampier tonight uh 252 yds passing 126 rushing and responsible for five touchdowns tonight he's been picked off twice yeah I'm I'm I'm going to watch him though because I think he's going to be a problem for anybody they face I think he's good Stein Camp ready to kick up we'll see if they go on side and he just whiffed it well I think on purpose yeah so now they're going to turn around he's going to kick the opposite way trying to see if the Wildcats adjust which they do now here's the kick on side and Arizona recovers tmac T-Mac course you want a guy with good hands back there right yeah that's what I call it the hands team so he Dives on the ball and the wild cats will have possession here now we're up uh by 16 chance to Salt this one away if that so we'll take another break with 443 to go fourth quarter Wildcats 55 New Mexico 39 this is Arizona football from Arizona Sports Enterprises Sean fer for Jack fer tire and or Royal [Music] [Music] kia.com well the wild cats 4 minutes and 43 seconds away from their eighth straight win and of course keep in mind they they finished last season on a seven game win streak they' also at least coming in tonight had won 12 of their last 16 and you know you love to get that first one if they make a big step ahead next week against NAU and uh then get set for that Kansas State game and I don't want to look past The Lumberjacks by any means but uh it would be great and they have two wins under your belt when you head to Manhattan yeah no no absolutely I mean I think you really have to take the approach that you know it doesn't matter what uniform is in front of you you just have to go out there and and work on being better and and improving on the week improving week over week it's a new system for them and they're all still learning right now so offensively they've got a lot to to be proud of tonight all right first and 10 Arizona at the New Mexico 48 after the recovery of the onside kick and faf in a quarterback and he'll hand off and there's crossy Merritt breaking a couple tackles down to the 40 maybe the 39 gain of nine and so the the numbers again the second half the Wildcats have run the ball more effectively they're at 166 on the ground tonight oh now you go back to you know last year's team they averaged 140 yards a game last year on the ground yeah so good start in that regard we're starting to see some more backups in the game right now you got Kedrick Rano in the game right now and also Alexander Duce is coming at Right Guard and Rano another guy that they have some uh great future he's a Richard freshman out of Texas and faf will hand off and yeah maybe maybe rcano got it back to the line of scrimmage and that's it yeah and also stoval is in uh at Center so we've got three three linemen in there Garrison Walker the tackle for New Mexico clock running with 335 to go and the Wildcats in no hurry here here oh they've got a third down and one rcano from New County Texas transferred from Old Miss played on special teams there last season he's got more of a battering type of running Style real downhill Runner buf will hand off Rosano right side he's got the first down and a couple more as he carries the pile down to the 35 so it'll be first down Arizona the Wildcats here in position where they can potentially run out the clock again the two-minute timeout is coming up so in some ways the two-minute timeout can be a a help on the other hands when you got the game in hand you kind of want to get it over with yeah and they they're trying to get that clock moving right now but they can take their time from here on out all right first and 10 groski Meritt back in as the running back fa under Center and he'll hand off gry big hole he's still the 25 20 15 105 touchdown Arizona that that line just parted on the left side and crossy Meritt exploded through there and that's the way you finish out a game Arizona in the in the fourth quarter and the third quarter have run the ball very effectively and pretty much put this one away I think with that one there so jakori croski Merit the former Lobo scores against his uh his former team puts the Wildcats up 61-39 with 224 to go not a bad not a bad first start for the offense 61 on the board Loop in for the extra point here's the snap oh and a bad snap fumbled a bit now just going to throw it in the air incomplete so the freshman holder tonight uh Michael Salgado Medina couldn't handle a snap and so the streak who we're talking about well does that count as a Miss because he never kicked the ball I don't know the exact rule that's yeah I know he' make it so I don't know yeah well we'll we'll consult our rules okay who do we go to back in New York yeah that's a that's a good question I don't know yeah cuz he yeah that he didn't make it he didn't make it he didn't kick it that's true too so yeah I mean yeah that's his streak may be intact I don't know now we'll we'll check on that for you so it remains 6139 Arizona with 224 to go and the wild cats will kick off here to the Lobos we'll run down uh the stats after the ball game we'll try and get uh head coach Bren Brennan with us we have some uh technical issues we've been working with tonight and so we're going to try our best to talk to him after the game and uh stats scores get you out of here let's see uh we should be out by midnight okay okay hey right Loop to kick off and that one headed for the end line that goes through so Lobos at their own 25 first and 10 yeah just I I can't get over and I don't want to overemphasize it but how much the wild cats you know improve from one half to the the other yeah that's you know again it's the first it's the first game um obviously you know staff they did a nice job going in and making some adjustments and talking through what they did well and deciding that maybe you know we don't need to play as many guys up front and maybe we're going to kind of go more with a base front and then let these guys just you know drop back in coverage and force him to throw into coverage and and he hasn't been as effective uh in this half D Pier has is effective so first and 10 for the Lobos at their own 25 yd line and they'll change quarterbacks here and that's Chavez who is checking in now for the first time tonight Isaiah Chavez out of Rio Rancho New Mexico first time he's played in three seasons he uh he was in a uniform back in 2021 didn't play the last two years now a senior and so Chavez picks up a yard it'll be second down and nine for New Mexico and there's the twom minute timeout a lot of folks headed home and it's getting late and the Wildcats have that one put away they'll go to one and0 on the season win their eth straight and look forward to uh next week hope to see everybody out here next week as well uh we'll go through I got to go through and see um you know how many how many guys the wild cats have been able to play tonight I think particularly want to look at that defensive line and we mentioned it before the ball game that uh you know they they had 14 defensive linemen on the depth chart and uh they were doing the the hockey line change sometimes bringing four in and four out at a time but a lot of it not only I think for for depth Lamont but obviously they're looking at some new guys yeah that's exactly what they did they were trying to see and and this you know um you're getting stuff on field and so you know they can go back to the drawing board this week and look at you know they're going to assess uh grade everyone and see what everyone did and then um make adjustments from there that's what you do you know some guys maybe on film will show that maybe they deserve more more times um on the field and some guys may show that maybe they don't deserve as much time on the field all right uh we would assume maybe at this point uh that Noah faf is done for the night with his 422 yards throwing that will be his second most in his career second to the 52 seven against ASU last year but look at it this way if you look at faf over his last now seven games dating back to last season he's averaging about 325 yards a game yeah he's he's doing a great job went over 3,000 in his career tonight on the the first play and tedo McMillan meanwhile he'd already been over 2,000 yards uh receiving and tonight has added 304 yards to uh that and again if you're looking for you know the record books that was a a career high for him he caught 266 against ASU last season uh maybe it's a chance that he becomes the uh Big 12 player of the week maybe perhaps this week hey well if I had a vote or national player of the week perhaps well I the only thing and I'm not I'm yeah I get it well no I wasn't even going to mention that I was going to mention only 10 catches so I mean yeah I know and I don't know some people look at number of catches some look at yardage but hey consider four touchdowns tonight yeah that's what he did after he caught it that was incredible let's go back to the yards after catch the yak so 304 yards receiving 176 yards after the catch yeah yeah that's what really stands out and the wild cats big plays tonight yeah it's been it's yeah it's a good it's a a very very good game for Arizona yeah all right yeah we'll get the scores coming up at halftime I was going to go back here and look at the big plays again if we don't get a chance these are plays of 15 yards or more and uh Wildcats here here's a list of their big plays tonight in yardage 69 27 17 24 78 16 40 26 31 19 15 18 51 16 23 and 36 it's a pretty explosive explosive offense I guess you could say all right for the uh Lobos here's the snap and they hand off to the right side and over the 35 out to about the 37 that'll be enough for the first down and damp Pier came back into the ball game by the way and now we've got uh an injured Lobo one of their linemen hurt yeah and trying to stay in there but yeah I think he's going to walk he can barely put weight on his leg Yeah they just brought another person in and the clock is running it by the way with the 142 to go they had stopped the play clock and now they have to stop the game clock when yeah injured player goes down all right so yeah you know the Big 12 will have to get mentioned earlier have to get used to this now you know checking your Rivals and so Iowa State won today Cincinnati won uh TC W last night yeah did you watch that one against Stanford I watched some of it not the whole thing it was it was a good game was it yeah Stanford I think Stanford gave a good account of themselves but TCU was impressed me as well right well we'll yeah we'll uh we'll see TCU down in Fort Worth in a late November it'll be warm trust me yeah you'll be okay and uh you know some of the other uh Big 12 West Virginia lost at home today to Penn State Oklahoma State beat South Dakota State um Kansas State over tennessy Martin what was that score that was uh 41-6 okay Kansas State good good team yeah they're really good all right first in 10 for New Mexico by the way nari Rogers got that gain of 11 there for the first down and dampier throws out in the flat and that is incomplete and maybe a good thing would not have Michael Buckley was the intended receiver and uh man you mentioned him earlier Emanuel car Carley uh was ready to unload on it I like I like the physicality there I mean you like to see your Corners play with that type of aggression minute 21 to go wild Kat's lead 6139 New Mexico with a second and 10 at its own 37 dampier out of the shotgun trips left single man right back to throw throws the screen to the near side and oh that's not going to go very far again it hurts when you know the Wildcats land some of these these hers that one didn't feel good and that was uh I think Peters running back who made the I think Carell hurt himself on the play he's his elbows kind of his shoulder kind of hanging he just went out there so gain of two it's third down and eight [Music] 45 seconds left damp here shotgun snap coming up he'll take it short drop looking middle nothing there rolling to the right still rolling now he's got to run it and he ducks in out to the 42 short gain and that could be the last play of the game 25 seconds unless the if the Lobos want to hurry up here they can run another one but dampier walking slowly looking over at the sideline now they will try and call another play we're down to 13 seconds left in the game ruckler the tight end late getting back in formation 5 seconds left dampier out of the shotgun three 2 one they get the snap off dampier back to throw fires it out on the right side it's caught there and short of the 50 is the Tackle by I think 10 of the 11 Wildcats on the field and that is the game and the Wildcats start 2024 under new coach Bren Brennan with a win 6139 the final for the cats here at Arizona Stadium tonight back here next week and Lobo 6139 here at Arosa Stadium tonight and again first half second half and the wild cats did you know some things like this and the total yardage actually is going to be pretty close from one half to the other but I think the rushing yardage is going to be the thing that stands out Lamont the Wildcats rushed for 28 yards in the first half 177 in the the second half was there a more I know in the fourth quarter there maybe they wanted to run the ball a little bit more but at the same time more of a concerted effort to run the ball second half than first yeah I I think in the first half it was such a shootout that they felt like maybe they couldn't establish the Run how things were going but in the second half um you know when they had a lead they had a chance to go ahead and and you know be put a concerted effort and be more stubborn about running the ball and and the good thing about it is they were able to do that you know that's what you want to see you want your align offensive line to be able to assert themselves um in games such as this and they really did they started to blow some holes open and they really started to physically just beat up New Mexico in that in that half uh running the ball and that's that's a that's a big positive for Arizona 627 yards total offense for the wild cats tonight now last year they had 619 up at Arizona State and then you have to go back to 2022 673 against Colorado so that's some of your recent big games uh in total offense for the Wildcats tonight Noah faid 19 of 31 422 four touchdowns one interception and tet McMillan 10 catches 304 and four scores tonight I'll say it again 176 yards of uh Yak yards after the catch crazy yeah really I mean he he looked spectacular tonight I mean we knew he was spectacular but I mean tonight it was another level yeah and he's physically just is changed look how how big he is and fast he is too I mean he really he he put on a show tonight you're right it was another level um he got out in the open showed speed tonight we all knew he had great hands and he rarely misses passes um but he he showed other elements to his game now I mean he's he's he's at his first year he was more possession this last year he showed that you know he could be more of a big play guy but to tonight I mean he just showed out in this game I mean he dominated the way that you want a a receiver to dominate games when you're when people are saying he's one of the best in the country he looked like one of the best in the country tonight the best in the country no question about it no question about it well that 78 yard touchdown catch that he had I honestly thought you know just as the play started to unfold that you know he was loose down the near sideline I thought that the Lobos had an angle on him I thought there was a couple guys that were probably going to get him and that's where his speed took over and his strides he has long strides he's a tall guy and wow just to see him motor down the sideline in that score I mean he made great moves all over the field tonight but that's one I'll I'll never forget yeah that that was spectacular it was kind of reminiscent of what uh Jacob Coen did against Oklahoma on you know the kind of the game-winning yeah it was the same type of deal crossy Crossing route caught it went up the sideline just took off so big plays certainly a big part of of the game in the win tonight for the wild cats but able then to get back to I don't want to call it a grinded out second half but just a a more balanced second half and uh you know I think that was it helped it was helpful for two reasons one those big plays in the first half met the the Arizona defense was on the field for a long time and even time of possession tonight still won handily by New Mexico by about 10 minutes but in the second half then uh Arizona able to use it ground game more they had some longer drives the defense had more chances to get some rest and then you saw some bigger plays from the defense yeah they they they really put it together in the second half and um I'm I'm excited I mean I'm excited still you know obviously they've got work to do and and they'll they'll be the first to tell you that but uh to put up 61 in your first game um I think that that's something that you can be proud of and and in the second half they they really dominated the second half and and looked more like the team that we thought um that they were going to they they struggled early on in this game cuz New Mexico came out sharp Arizona had one game plan and New Mexico said no you're not going to do that to us and they just continued to counter and counter um and and they had a great game plan against ARA Arizona and Devon damp here and they had some great Playmakers so Mexico did a wonderful job tonight um I think they don't have anything to be ashamed of I they just got overmatched as the game went on and and they could not stop T-Mac under any circumstances yeah Danier was was very good tonight and Gib is due 260 yards past in 130 rushing five touchdowns and then Luke weong eight catches 129 and a TD and again team picked a finish 11th in the Mountain West this year and they improved a lot from game one to game two so you know they've got a chance again if they can survive this first half of the the schedule I think they've got a chance to you know put together a pretty good season so and you know Bronco mendenhal again this guy's a veteran coach he knows how to win for sure and so you can see that stamp that he's put on team in a very short period of time and they they went to the portal and we go back to that again I mean Arizona like all schools almost all of them safe for Clemson uh you know they're looking for the portal this is how you rebuild your team in a hurry and uh Bren Brennan went to the portal we talked about a lot of them tonight uh New Mexico has the second most transfers in the country this year uh Colorado has the most by the way and it it can work either way for you but I would say for New Mexico it looks like it's working in the right direction it really is the the the hard part about getting all those transfers is getting them to play as a team and and and Broncos done a good job they look like they've been together you know for some period of time even though they haven't um and and like I say Broncos a good he's he's an excellent coach and and you could see it in New Mexico's improved dramatically from where they were last year and that's just a credit to him cats win at to start the season great way to get your Arizona career started well shoot you know I give those guys from New Mexico a lot of credit you know coach men and all had them ready to play and they did a hell of a job and I liked how our players responded first game we got a lot to work on so that's good you mentioned first game you got a lot to work on how about first half to the second half tonight what did you see out of your team you know you know I thought some of the conversations that we were having you know during during halftime you know showed up in a positive way I thought the coach did a good job making some adjustments you know our defense got off the field a couple times created a couple turnovers which was exciting and uh you know I thought finishing right before half of the field goal and then coming out that first drive and scoring a touchdown gave us some momentum all right McMillan by the way he's a pretty good receiver uh we've had a chance to see him before you've watched him in practice all the time tonight look pretty special for him no question teamac is brilliant a brilliant football player and uh obviously him and Noah have some great chemistry and and uh you know I think that's really it's really it's really fun to watch him play right he's just such a good pass catcher and then his ability to make big plays yard you yards after the catch I'm really glad he's playing for the wild cats I I know you you'll go back and look at the film but just uh you know instant reaction to the the depth you were able to use on defense tonight and get get some different guys in there what did you see well I thought we short things up a little you know a lot better in the second half um obviously their quarterback is an athletic guy and a good player and so you know he was he was getting out a little bit on us but I thought you know we settled in and you know I think we got a lot of work to do I thought we had you way too many selfish penalties tonight which absolutely hurt us in extended drives and so you know we're going to have a lot to talk about over the next couple days but the good news is this team is eager and they want to get better and so we'll go to work on those things coach Brenan um talk about the Run game tonight I really thought that the AR Arizona asserted themselves in the second half what was your assessment of what they did running the ball no I thought we had a good plan in the Run game you know with with all the movement and all the pressure we were getting from uh New Mexico you know we thought that if if we could collect some of those pressures we could we could get the ball out like we did and so obviously it's great to see some of those big runs hit obviously some big plays and and I thought our o line did a good job blocking it so uh I'm encouraged by that we still got like I said first game coming out of the first game we got a lot of work to do we got to make a big jump in this first week all right coach congratulations thanks for the visit we'll see you next week thanks guys bear down all right Bren Brennan head coach of the Wildcats down uh just outside the locker room tonight Arizona wins at over the Lobo 61 to 39 let's take a look at some of the uh the numbers tonight Arizona finished with 627 yards of total offense 422 through the air 205 on the ground uh the one thing coach Brennan just mentioned Lamont nine penalties tonight for 100 yards you you can't do that to be a a really good football team and some of them were uh you know first game mistakes I'm not trying to make any excuses for them but they are penalties and then there were some bad ones tonight so that's and I think he brought it up there and I have a feeling that it will be discussed in practice this week oh yeah there there's probably going to be some uh some debts to pay for the for the amount of personal files uh that occurred in practice and and and rightfully so guys just those are the things that can can lose games for you you know when when this game un for fortunately wasn't that situation but you can't have those type of penalties you there's just no place for those type of penal you can't lose your cool in games like this you got to be smart and and and always be focused and if somebody's mouthing off to you you know you can't take take a swing at somebody and do things like that I you just hurt your team ultimately and two of those again tario Davis who got called for two un sportsmanlike conduct penalties that's automatic ejection from the game Wildcats uh 22 first downs tonight eight of 12 on third down which certainly you know that's a number that jumps out at you and they made their only fourth down conversion as well but the crazy thing is New Mexico ran 23 more plays on offense tonight than Arizona go back those big plays that made a a big difference they really did all right uh the wild cats tonight averaged eight yards here's another thing that that will make you feel good all right the wild cats averaged 7.9 yards per Rush tonight so when they did run the ball they were very effective they were and once again it was explosive plays and like I said it's funny I was I wasn't complaining about the amount of explosive plays I just you know was thinking like you don't want to always depend on big explosive plays but I mean when you're getting them at the clip that they're getting them at you know you just got to sit back and enjoy it because yeah they they definitely this what I saw in Camp I saw this explosiveness I kept seeing these guys get deep I kept seeing you know ripoff big runs and that's really what they showed tonight that they they have that ability um so yeah I'm I'm just I'm going to go with it right now and be happy that they that they're able to hang 61 on the board that's that's that's hard to do against anybody to be perfectly honest Noah faid through the air 19 of 31 422 four touchdowns one interception uh welcome jakori croski Meritt running the ball for the Wildcats 13 carries 106 yards and a touchdown tonight and then uh yeah his uh his backup if you want to call it that qual Conley a senior transfer from San Jose uh he goes for 10 carries 90 yards and three scores tonight uh McMillan and this will be talked about for a long long time and should be 10 catches 304 four touchdowns tonight 176 yards after the catch wow Conley three catches for 29 Bernett caught one for 27 uh Speedy Luke one for 26 uh Chris Hunter caught one for 15 Jeremiah Patterson 148 Malachi Riley 147 Montana lonus Craig 146 for New Mexico tonight uh 471 yards of total offense 260 through the air 211 on the ground eight penalties 65 yards 29 first downs 5 of 12 on third down two of two on fourth down again they ran 80 plays in this game and that's that's very high yeah it goes back to Arizona's big plays uh by the way the Lobo six of six in the Red Zone tonight they also had two turnovers individually Devon dampier their starting quarterback 24 of 42 for 263 touchdowns two interceptions he was their leading rusher 15 carries for 130 yards and Luke weong their leading receiver eight catches for 129 and a touchdown defensively for the Wildcats their leaders tonight Dalton Johnson 10 tackles total four solos uh trayon stooks nine tackles tonight tario Davis seven uh Jacob Manu was seven um Maldonado with four tonight and those are the leaders for the Wildcats on the def defensive side they had uh three tackles for loss tonight and two interceptions broke up five passes on top of that we talked about all those big plays earlier was just a big night for the Wildcats Big Score 6139 the final back in a moment this is Arizona football from Arizona Sports properties hey Wildcat fans score $350 when you do it the right [Music] way the Wildcats winning streak now at 8 straight they won 13 of their last 17 and they got any you coming up next week so before we talk about that Lamont uh I think you've already kind of answered it but I'll ask you again what do the Wildcats have to do better next week than they did tonight um obviously they got to clean up a lot of things in terms of um the penalties you don't want to see that many penalties I think on the defensive side of the ball I think you want to see um them really be able to get off the field and and um I think that you know they were they were trying things tonight you know they were trying to find their footing defensively and I think as the game went on you could see in the second half they made some adjustments and were just just played kind of more of a base defense and just and were able to keep things in front of them and then all of a sudden you know D it wasn't so easy for damp here to run down the field I think early on they were just trying to figure out you know try to figure things out you know they were trying they're being really aggressive and they were getting to him early they weren't getting to him as a as the game wore on so just they they're just going to have to make some adjustments defensively and figure out when to pressure and when not to and and they're figuring things out you know it's a new staff um so um that's what I think they're they're just going to have to make some improvements on the end offensively I think you know Mak him more of the smaller plays I think the big plays obviously are great but I also want to see those guys show some more a little bit more consistency um moving the ball down the field and things like that but um they got a lot to work with and and so it was a great start for them um some rough spots but they just got to go back to the drawing board yeah for the fans hey the big play is exciting you love it when you go to the stadium and watch the game but that doesn't always win you the game now tonight you could say yes it did but you're going to find those games down the road here where you're going to need that grinded out where you're going to need to win the time of possession and and run you know more plays than your opposition hang on to the ball all those things don't make mistakes I mean that's going to happen we know it for sure and that's one thing that uh it really comes in games you know practice isn't going to you do a lot of things to prepare for it but it really comes down to the game when you have to prove yourself there absolutely there there will be there will be games I guarantee you there's going to be games where you're going to have you know some there's going to be some great DBS out there that are going to maybe slow things down forone and other guys are going to have to um that's the one thing that I think Arizona needs to do too is you want to see some other guys get more Incorporated in the passing game so you can't just focus on on T-Mac and I like to see the Titans get a little more involved in in the passing game but again it's game one and they were they were they were hitting on
