Well you have to say our four political parties there's not much we agree on. Perhaps there's not much we agree on other than this: that New South Wales would be very well served by appointing Nick Kaldas as it's next Police Commissioner. Leadership, not a slumber party is what we've got to get and what we've got to have. I'm sure we would not have had the fiasco with the that occurred with the Lindt Cafe. Nick Kaldas must be on the shortlist at the top of the shortlist for the replacement of Andrew Scipione. But what I'd also like to observe on behalf of our party is that we've been - as a party and certainly me as an individual - been involved in the processes around two inquiries - one into "Emblems" and one into the Ombudsman's inquiry into the results of "Emblems" - we've seen a lot of evidence given, for example we've seen a lot of supposed innuendo and other things been thrown around. We've got excellent evidence from the Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioners. But I think it's time to put all that stuff behind us. What we're seeing here is a situation, now that the Lindt Cafe inquiry is over, that the Government has to take on board very carefully, very calmly, and look very seriously at the alternatives, and it was a major loss to see the most experienced operational officer in this State, with international credentials, with an ability acknowledged right across the world, now working in the UN and The Hague. In these times when we expect to see terrorism at almost any turn, at any tick of the clock, and at any turn of the street: he has that experience, he has that knowledge, he could be doing that job for us. We implore Mr Baird to consider appointing Nick Kaldas. Now, to talk about the Police also, it's important because I get contacted, especially with my involvement in the last three or four years in these sorts of issues, by Police themselves. And they all understand the hierarchy, and they all understand the issues, but what they're saying is they're screaming
out. And they're screaming out for leadership. They're screaming out for leadership, and they don't want another slumber party as we saw at the Lindt Cafe. The worst thing we could possibly do is see another foreigner brought in to run the New South Wales Police, because their culture is wrong. We have a man who is universally respected within the Police Force of New South Wales, that man is Nick Kaldas. Please Mike Baird, bring him back.
