hey guys hey guys what's up uh vicarius here again um this just came on my radar um let me go ahead and uh play this for you lock down at appalache High School in Barrow Barrow County after reports of gunfire this is the latest report I believe it was AB Well the description the link is in the description to uh I want to give credit to so thank you so much for bringing this up on my radar let's check it out just a reset here on 11 alive news this is appalache High School in Barrow County in Winder um it's off US Highway 29 or University Parkway reports of shots fired at the school those reports uh brought a hard lockdown students were taken out of the school they were all um together on the football field and in the bleachers around the football field we have been told that parents and loved ones are a are able to come on to campus grounds now to reunite with students and they can leave for the day there are still dozens of law enforcement there we see a group there standing outside of the building we've seen a number of them walking into to the building as well as we get a different Vantage Point here from our Sky tracker over the school this is a school of 9 through 12th grade about 1,900 students one of two high schools in that County this school's been open since 2000 a big campus there a big campus as they are starting the school year and this is certainly not what anybody would ever want to see as a new new school year coming off a Labor Day weekend holiday and just to give you some more perspective here our assignment desk was hearing about this story right before we came on air at 11: so we're coming up on 11:40 while it appears just from the body language and the current response and knowing that that medical helicopter has already left the scene with one person on it it is still not confirmed if this entire situation is actually complete if it is all wrapped up and now we're in response mode so we're also waiting to hear word of that but this has been going on for upwards of an hour now from when we first started hearing about it and sending someone there to check on it Chopper has arrived on the scene we see people are still you know having this active presence here and as they panned around we saw that there was an emergency vehicle set up at multiple entrance and exit points there at the school so it's also important to note that we cannot confirm that this situation has actually concluded yeah we don't know if there still is somebody inside the school perhaps there are just a lot of questions right now um I think the perspective from the sky tractor gives you maybe a sense or mood outside but that's a very big building we don't know if investigators have been able to go in typically protocol would be able to go in and kind of do a sweep you go room to room to room which will take uh a lot of time in a building of this size with that many classrooms but there is procedure and protocol that they'll have to follow and and as Aisha said we're not certain what happened inside and if that has come to a resolution and so active in many ways we saw that mobile command center that most um law enforcement departments have that kind of mobile command unit looks like a a big RV has now arrived on scene and is in sort of what's becoming a staging area near the flag pole there and that's also where we saw the medical helicopter and we saw one person on a stretcher being taken into that helicopter and the helicopter taking off about 30 minutes ago or so so again a live look at appalache High School in Winder as we wait for more information from local law enforcement about what has happened but again perhaps one of the most important pieces of information we can relay is that parents are able to pick up kids now we have seen from a couple of different Vantage points from our Sky tracker here just a massive amount of cars of people trying to get to the school to reunite with with students there it's just a matter of time getting them in the entrances being able to manage sort of the traffic of that and the logistics of picking up those kids and taking them home home but that feels like an encouraging layer of the story that those reunions can happen and families can start to take students home as law enforcement continues to do their work just sort of doing a little uh research here and I'm on a site called statista and I just wanted to know because it seems like when we hear about these school shootings you hear about them in other parts of the country and then you're like wait a minute now we have one that possibly happened here at home because this hard lockdown was put into place after reports I want to stress that after reports of gunfire so this site reports here as of July 11th 35 incidents of school shootings were recorded in the US in 2024 that goes for K through2 and college campuses Nationwide that's in comparison to 82 recorded in 2023 and so we are now just entered September and those numbers are on Pace to sort of you know round out about the same way is a conversation that we've had to have so much more it's a conversation that's been highly politicized it is something more so for parents where you say you put all that stuff aside I just want to know when I send my child on that bus or drop them off at that school that they are going to return home safely and that is on the top of mind for all of these parents who are lining University Drive right now they're in Winder trying to see their child's face after these reports have come out and just a moment ago here we see this perspective of all those students on the track and those are the moments that just give you a little pit in your stomach because we have seen that image at different schools in different parts of the country as students have for whatever reason had to evacuate high schools and be outside and find those safe spaces we have been talking about that medical helicopter that arrived on scene and the person taken on a stretcher into that Chopper we've been talking about Grady being a a level one trauma center the one in metro Atlanta there's also a level one trauma out of Northeast Georgia Medical in Gainesville that might be another option we are on the phones uh trying to confirm where that patient would have been taken by medical helicopter um no information on on how that person is doing or potential injuries just wanted to say that of course as we get any information we'll let you know but we want to be cautious because in these kinds of scenarios there is a a lot flying around a lot of rumors flying around and misinformation very important we are just going to share with you what has been confirmed by multiple sources to make sure that you have accurate information as these kind of stories unfold there is a lot of information flying around all right so we showed you Cheryl that huge view of these parents lining University Drive out the school because the all at to be released to their parents it is causing traffic jams in every direction however we have sent there she is arriving within minutes we're going to get to her on the ground as soon as they get set up sort of you know scope out the scene ask if few questions seeing if they could give us some more information because we are just sort of talking you through the images that we're seeing as our assignment desk managers and crew sort of work the phones there so trying to work the story from all angles we even have producers who are off the clock who happen to be in this community sort of giving us the information including that in Northeast Georgia and Gainesville also having that level one Trauma Center so we are Seekers of all information and we are on top of that for you right now but just really want to sort of bring you what looks like a sense of calm now in this scenario the students are all in one safe area law enforcement is all over the place and so it Le Le we have that to report to you but again it is uncertain if the situation is 100% over and that is the perspective of what what we believe is sort of a mobile command center that area on the grounds by the flag pole is where most of the law enforcement uh vehicles are the ambulances um that mobile command center and that is where the medical helicopter had taken off I'm kind of watching to see what kind of movement to to your point Aisha about parents actually getting into the school and and getting close all right guys um hold on I've got another 7 minutes ago CBS the FBI respond to it um yeah that's pretty close let me bring this up maybe I'll read it um yeah let me read it I got to practice this stuff anyway oh okay well here I didn't even know they had it here let's watch this for sharing intelligence with the field office what difference does it make that the president is watching and he is saying he will coordinate and make sure all resources are available as well you know that's helpful in the fact that the various agencies then know we're all working together we are use all our resources it's not just one agency having to fund this or Supply the people that all people are going to be working together so they're going to continue the work they're doing because right now they're just trying to gather the information get it to the intelligence analyst who will do the Deep Dives and the digging um you know online through email accounts through um social media accounts so a lot of work is being done by a lot of people on site and offsite Cathy thank you for that we want to bring in now former Bergen County New Jersey police chief and lecturer at John J College Brian Higgins Brian as a former police chief how does a department respond to to a type of incident like this well what we've seen unfold is exactly what we would expect a massive police response to move as quickly as possible to the scene and into the school first to stop the shooting and then to render Aid to victim as quickly as possible and that appears to be happening as we as we watch this it's it's so disturbing to watch Brian because we've all been here before and if you are a high school age person you've only lived a life where there is a constant threat of school shootings um the suspect is in custody though and we don't always a suspect is in custody a suspect a at least one suspect we should say in custody that will provide some intelligence and some information on what is still an early investigation how helpful is that and how will they be speaking with this at least one suspect now in order to make sure everyone is safe it's extremely helpful on two fronts first in the investig ation into the school shooting itself um how this unfolded how the the shooter or Shooters uh came to be in possession of these Firearms what motivated them to uh perpetrate this shooting and then on a larger scale every time we have a a school shooting or mass shooting like this we're moving closer to that point where someday we can see these things start to go in the opposite direction reduce the numbers and ultimately there will be a day when we won't see these school shootings you know you make a very good point about we're here again I'm a father of a uh of a teenager who will start high school tomorrow uh his second year and this is the kind of thing um that is in the back of every parent mind what do you what do you tell your kid well um first of all I tell him how he should react um during one of these situations and I tell him even if it's a a uh an exercise a practice run or a lockdown if he's not in a classroom he's not with an adult like a teacher give me the facts please um I kind of got a little bit let me go ahead and uh maybe read the article then so that's the number one thing I tell my my student my son is be aware okay authorities responded to a shooting Wednesday morning at High School in Northern Georgia one suspect was taken into custody the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed casualties have been reported but details of the number about the number of people harmed and their conditions were not immediately available said the local sheriff administrators had early earlier placed students in facility on lockdown as reports emerged online of a possible active shooter at appalachi High School in barl County Georgia which is about an hour's drive from Atlanta the premises was cleared within an hour the school said and the students were released to their family but they haven't released obviously they're going to do a uh um press briefing later there was Heavy police president seen on the school property property Wednesday morning CBS affiliate WF reported around 11: a.m. aerial footage from the news station showed dozens of ambulances officers and medical helicopter gathered in the parking lot and on the uh green side of the building at that time at least one person had been transferred into the helicopter on a scretcher and students evacuated to the school Stadium where buses were due to pick them up according to wnf agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation were also called to the scene Georgia Governor Brian Camp already has addressed the S situation in vague terms in a statement shared on social media around noon saying his office has moved State resources to help with the response to what he has described as an incident at an app an incident okay I have directed all available State resources to respond to the insulant obviously we can see that um anything else on that all righty so it's still going on here it says um you know Adam was talking about six to eight ambulances that he had witnessed himself just sort of um you know speeding away from the scene we also did witness someone put into a helicopter and choppered to Grady Memorial Hospital uh this is video not live but video of one of those uh airvac um the one that that has a patient in it uh that that left the scene this is probably about an hour or so ago that this took place um and so the the original calls just to catch you up here at 12:40 on this Wednesday afternoon the original calls came in just after 10:20 this morning reports of gunfire at appalache high school police then uh reported uh responded to those calls and we've gotten this statement from the Barrow County Sheriff's Department as we take a look at these live pictures of parents walking to the campus of appalachi high school to be reunited uh they're praying with their children uh that at approximately 10:23 officers from multiple law enforcement agencies and Fire EMS Personnel were dispatched to the high school in reference to a reported active shooting uh one suspect is in custody and casualties have been reported details on the number or their conditions is not available at this time and again this is video These are not live pictures this is video that we've been gathering over the last uh 90 minutes or so since we first went on the air with this uh showing you the scene which at various times has been uh active or uh or I don't want to say inactive because obviously there's a lot going on there uh but but we've seen a lot of law enforcement sort of walking around without the sense of urgency that you would expect uh if there was an active shooter still uh at large and and and when we say that there's one person in custody uh we don't know whether or not there are any other suspects that they're looking for all right that was that was coverage from all right cool guys um yep that's what I got for you um I'll be looking for more stuff um I'll be [Music] around um I'm glad that I'm back on so I'll be more careful with what I shoot um they age restricted me on the last thing that I I threw out there but I didn't think it was even worth that because it was it was it was body cam footage and there it was an actual police officer talking about it so um it looks like YouTube is going to be starting to uh really push the limits on what you can post and what you can't so I'm going to push the limits piss on them all right peace out have a good one
