Five seconds left and are you up 1614. 62 yarder. Snap hold. Jeter's kick is blocked. It's blocked. It's blocked. Picked up by NIU. Picked up by NIU. The Huskies have done it. The Huskies with the biggest upset in NIU history. They come to South Bend, Indiana, and they knock off the number five team in the country. NIU 16, Notre Dame 14. The football gods were shining down on NIU. Tip of the cap to NIU Radio Network for that. What a call that was back here with Bryant McFadden. Brad Crawford here to talk winners and losers. Bmac biggest winner was actually rice today. They won by 62. But your biggest winner is who? Longhorns. Texas They're my biggest winner because they went into a very, very difficult environment. A place where the Wolverines, they haven't lost in four years at home. They're at the big house. But for Texas, they turned the big house into the little house. And the thing about Texas and why I'm. So I love that you just said that. I just thought about that, too. That was a freestyle. That was a ball right there. That was a pretty good. It was good. That was good. That was good. But the thing I love about Texas and how they won the ball game, Brad Hakeem is they show different styles of play. Offensively we know with Quinn Ewers who's a pro prospect, you can throw it around the yard, especially to those pass catchers. He has at his disposal. But the way they ran the football today and dominated at the line of scrimmage, if they continue that element improving in that element for their game offensively look out. And they did the same thing defensively. They set the tone at the line of scrimmage. They're one of the best teams in the nation. Steve Sarkisian and his staff they have they have these guys believing and they're rolling and they're playing inspiring football. And the last thing I'll say about Texas they're more physical team than what we've seen in years past. Physical the physicality or the lack thereof was has been an issue in years past. So far, what we what we've seen in this early 24 season, especially today, they can get down and dirty with the with the likes of any team in college football. And they love doing so. Brad, is it unanimous here? I think it has to be, man. I mean, a lot of us were writing the eulogy last week after Miami went to Gainesville, Florida, Notre Dame went to College Station, beat A&M. But now SEC newcomer Texas goes into Ann Arbor and lays a can on Michigan as Bmac said, Texas is loaded with playmakers. Portal guys Jontay cook there. They're now three deep at running back despite losing two guys for the season. I mean, they are loaded on that side of the ball. Second straight year, Sark has beaten a non conference top ten opponent on the road and we saw last year fellas that non conference win at Bama came in handy during playoff selection time. Same thing is going to happen this time around here in a few months. When that win against Michigan is going to look better and better. They didn't ask me for a biggest winner but I'm giving it to you. It's northern Illinois because not only do they get paid $1.4 million to play that game, they beat. They beat that. You know what? And which takes us to the biggest Loser who disappointed us the most. It's also unanimous. Be back. No question. It's Notre Dame, Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish. When you talk about having an opportunity to continue to stockpile wins based on what they did last week on the road against Texas A&M. Total letdown. It's safe to say they had a victory hangover. Brad They came out flat. They never got things going. And Northern Illinois played with more inspiration played with more energy. They were a physical team and they played cleaner football. And to that, this was a huge upset. Anytime you're favored by 28 points, you're supposed to lose, you're supposed to lose. But for me, Notre Dame, they're my biggest loser. And I understand mathematically speaking, we've already had this conversation. They still have a shot to get into the playoffs, but they have no room for error. They're not in a conference. They don't have the luxury of playing for a conference title to guarantee them a spot in the 12 team playoffs for this season, so they have no room for error played against a team that you're more superior than, you have more talent, and everything was in your favor to come out and just continue to stockpile wins. You lose today in that fashion, the Irish, the fighting Irish that my Biggest Loser. That's a very crucial point, man, because remember, the Irish are fighting for one of those seven at large playoff spots. They're not fighting for one of those 12 spots. It's seven spots because we've got five automatic bids to conference champions. As you mentioned, Notre Dame is an independent. We're talking about a team that in week one was the talk of college football, you know, went on the road, beat Mike Elko, Texas A&M. And we thought they were a unanimous top ten team. Showed today that they aren't even a top 15 team right now Marcus Freeman this group has to play better. Ryan Leonard was kind of off cue several times at quarterback today. And the Notre Dame defense just did not come up with enough stops late in that game and then had the blocked field goal reminiscent of Michigan's loss to App State, a long time ago. I was getting flashbacks. They're hearing here in North Carolina. But yeah, Notre Dame man did not pass the eye test today. And like we've mentioned, they're going to have to win out to make the playoffs now because the rest of the slate though favorable, there's not many quality teams on it that are going to impress that committee, especially after this l they took in South Bend Notre Dame takes on Purdue next week a game you can see on CBS as we look ahead to week three. Brad, what's your matchup you're eyeing in week three? South Carolina host LSU first time college game day is in Columbia I think in 11 years. And Shane Beamer surprisingly is two. And oh I mean the win total for the Gamecocks to begin the year was five and a half. He's already got two wins. Beat Kentucky today. Only his third road SEC win during his tenure. Then LSU. You know they were sort of licking their wounds after that opening loss to USC. They beat Nicholls tonight. This is the SEC opener for both teams. South Carolina with a win over LSU next week. They go to the top 25 the week after that. And Brian Kelly starting the season one and two. We haven't mentioned hot seat in Baton Rouge fellas, but if he starts, anyone in the SEC with losses to Southern Cal and the other USC, there's some problems in Baton Rouge. And that's a that's a very big game on my docket. Yeah. For me this might not, you know, spark your interest because it's not a ranked or ranked game. But for me there's a lot of intriguing pieces with this matchup. And that's Alabama traveling to Wisconsin. The reason why I have my eye on that matchup is because this is the first time that Alabama will be taking their talents away from Bryant-Denny Stadium, Nick Saban Field. And tonight we saw a slow, sluggish start against South Florida. But of course, they kind of jumpstarted things in the fourth quarter to prevail with a huge win for Wisconsin. This is like a playoff game for them. The atmosphere is going to be electric. It's a high noon kickoff, and when you look at what's going on in the Big Ten, the window of opportunity is there for a team like Wisconsin, this could be a signature win for their program early on in this season. If they can find a way to upset Alabama and can Alabama give us the same sound production on the road in a ver, very hostile environment? Because it will be until they take the crowd out of the game based on what we've seen them do at home. Alabama a very, very legit team on either side of the football field, have playoff aspirations. But all of that starts next week on the road against Wisconsin. And for me, when you look at the Big Ten, like I said, Wisconsin, the window of opportunity is open. When you look at what's going on with Michigan. We saw an upset with Iowa today. You can really open a lot of eyes if you take care of your business against a national ranked team in the Crimson Tide, jump around at Camp Randall. Looking forward to that. Yeah looking forward to the South Carolina LSU game. You got Brian Kelly who's still angry yelling at his kicker tonight. I mean just a lot of passion. They got it done. They got it done. They got it done. But man he's a he's take some magnesium and just chill a little bit right Brad appreciate you being back here on CBS sports HQ a week three doubleheader on CBS Notre Dame at Purdue followed by Colorado, Colorado State.
