and the fans here are fired up for this Clash what an exciting matchup we have in store for you this afternoon built around the pageantry tradition and everything that makes college football great as we see a squad from the Big 12 the West Virginia Mountaineers taking on a team from the Mountain West the New Mexico Lobos for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis David Po and Jessie Palmer with me guys it's time to get it going [Applause] Lobos will get us started with the opening kickoff on the run from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so West Virginia's offense will get the first possession of the game there he is the man who makes everything go and they believe they're going to score every time they touch when on the field Jesse he plays with unbelievable confidence he always knows where to go with the football the entire Playbook is at this guy's disposal yeah which is so much fun for a coach so much F he's going to take a shot right away and he's got it inside the 35 and he got away from the defense and takes it in [Applause] touchdowners that was a lightning fast drive that ends with a touchdown if you can more drives like that together man we might as well get our popcorn out because we're going to get a lot of scoring about to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown catches it inside his chance to really gain some brown just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 so the New Mexico Lobos offense has its first opportunity of the day here are our impact players for this game and it goes Beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play while they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah and they don't always show up in the Box SC but these are the guys are the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to succeed looking for space it's Henry at the 45 on it way and how about that what the doctor always ordered an explosive play to the 40 first down here for the offense they'll put the tight end in motion hand off from the gun Nifty little dance step and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down after the productive first down play it's second and six from the gun the ground game had to work to pick up three down to the 33 yd line they plow ahead with the run but still more ground needed to pick up the first down third down coming they'll try to get outside inase at the and he'll have to check his fings after that L but he did get the first down this offense knew coming into this one guys how important it was to start early and on this opening drive for them they're doing a nice job running the football they're on third down they're in a position on the field now if you're on defense you got to be ready for a shot throw into the end zone they pushed it ahead to the four they'll try to cash in on second and [Applause] goal tries again to get it in nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the car it's looking like they're going to have to try to throw this one into the end zone here on third down David got to be careful can't get greedy because you know these windows they close fast extremely tight Windows find your big body guy the pressure was too much they get him at the 15 man that's just kind of frustrating for an offense you move the ball all the way down the field you got an opportunity on third down and you can't protect your quarterback you get the sack and now it's probably field goal time if you make a f kick is good the offense has three points to show for the drive so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather on the move from inside his five he just about popped that one for a long one but as it is he gives his team a lot of momentum with a solid return West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook a quick strike touchdown up top the last time they had it Jesse they'd love to do it again no doubt they've got so Playmakers on the perimeter David just find a way to get these guys the ball in space and you already started man making that big play open up this offense this quarterback is feeling good about himself I wouldn't be surprised if they give it right back to him solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six movement here from the tight end back to throw it's green feeling some heat and he was drilled just as he released the pass it's incomplete really good the QB to hang in there take a big shot but I will not give him credit for throwing in the double coverage so nice job hanging in there being tough make a better decision do not throw into double coverage he got lucky that was an interception this senior quarterback moving the chains and picking up a first down for his team well he does a really nice job buying time and I love the awareness there understanding no one's open down field knowing where the sticks are he's able to use his a to get that first down used the play fake now to throw unloads to the wide out it's complete and the catch and run into the end zone touchdown M lining up to tack one more onto that lead just got a little Cas with it and blew the extra point quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and capped off the drive with a big play through the air scoring from 50 yd out caught inside the 20 chance for a good return he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 let's see what the Loos offense has dialed up this time Jesse they had to kick a field goal the last time they had it yeah often times early in games you're just trying to find your Rhythm some things work some don't on that first drive David be interesting to see what happens here in the second Drive yeah you got to for the defense now you understand what they're trying to do what their game plan is now you get to go into phase two of your game plan and they'll bring him down but not he picks up the first here's this off with a set ofs he's going to pass he'll throw it tight end finds a soft spot he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down and now second down for this offense looking for room it's Henry nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the carry that player is so lucky he did not put that football on the ground what a tackle by that Defender phenomenal individual effort getting that tackle for loss they've got the screen set up and that one looked great on the grease board but when they blow it up like that the defense is going to win every time and the Lobos will call on their punt team this will be their first punt of the afternoon on the it's Fox he only needs a of daylight returns like that are you don't settle with a fair catch if you don't have to Pi up just a little B of yard to help out the West Virginia has it the off ready to go to work boy David they would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last Drive and this offense did such a good job on the last Drive everything in Rhythm moved the ball down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this one yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that sideline what sort of changes were they able to make because they got to stop the bleeding right now to the air it's green he fires to the left side and he bats it away it falls incomplete nice job in coverage there offense trying to take a shot down field the defender able to tip that one up in the air and force it incomplete here they come on second and 10 from the 47 after the incompletion grabbed over the middle it's Robinson and after the tackle that will bring us to the end of the first quarter guys that's the end of the quarter and West Virginia has the lead guys let's have a look at the stats as we played one period now to see if these guys can get back in the game as we open the second quarter a third down play to open up this quarter from the gun wants to pass the quarterback can make a big play when he starts moving around finally R out of bounds but he has this off rolling with a first down it's just so hard defensively to take your eye off this guy especially on third down you've got to know that at any given moment he can take off on you they've got to do a better job on the back end keeping their focus on him he's the one withes the end and it's caught tchd West Virginia that's number two on the day having a day I mean you know he's going to catch the football and you know he's going to make plays after he catches those are the kind of guys that you feature and you find him and they produced like this you keep finding almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown on the 25 just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 let's see what the Lobos offense has in store that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has to be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between the Run Jesse and working in that pass and I think too David it's just going to take a spark it just takes One play to get this thing picked up and going he's dropped behind the line of scage that'll be a l of three and that's what makes this defense so difficult to run against they've got guys up front that just push offensive linemen backwards they basically push the blockers right into the lap of that running back they're trying to get to it he'll pull it down and run short gain on the play before he slides you know what Reese it is a great play and I think they were in Niel brought an extra guy on the field that has some speed take a linebacker that's a little bit slower off the field and you could see it pay dividends on that third down looking for a block it's fox found a little run room on that one picked up some nice blocks before he's run out of bounds West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one Dave we'll see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going off the play fake on first down wants to throw unloads to the right and those two couldn't make the connection it's an incomplete pass this offense has a second down [Applause] play give to the running back they make the Stop and this running game moves to change as they get the first down you ain't getting by all these guys right up the middle unless your offensive line and your tight ends and everybody is putting in the work up front committing to blocking the running back does a great job finding the hole exploding through how about that nice big huge game if I'm the OC let's call that one again well we knew coming into this game this offense was going to try and get this receiver involved and get him invol early so here they are just finding an easy completion it's not a touchdown but they just want to get this guy lathered up and get him into not a lot of room down here he's able to pick up two it's down at the 12 boy they'd love to pick up this conversion and go to work with a first and [Applause] goal it'll be a run on Third and short he's brought down but he's got him inside the 10 first and goal from the eight defense is backed up shadow of the post trying to defend their own End Zone he makes a [Applause] grab they'll try to add another to their lead and he knocks this one through and that's been anything but easy for this kicker they made sure that good field position paid off going 45 yard and they finish things off with an eight yd toss for the score PS it in inside his 20 and here he comes couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 now New Mexico will go back to work on offense they've been pretty much stifled on offense so far David only able to muster three points in their previous three drives and you got to find a way to open this up and create some explosive plays the game is obviously the easiest way Jess put more speed on the field find those guys down the field and you know they're frustrated too because they felt like there was some matchups they could take advantage of to get some points on the board early in this one they just haven't been able to connect on those opportunities but I like David's idea maybe move some guys around and see if you can create some better one-on-one matchups using the quick game the defense wouldn't let him lose there it was but they lost yardage it's third down now and they ought to be able to get off one more play before the two-minute warning we've reached a two-minute warning and this thing has been onesided and they hope to at least have something to feel good about going into halftime on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it the Freshman able to get home with the sack we haven't even got into halftime yet this offense has their hands full trying to keep this quarterback standing up straight they've already given up multip sacks that's the biggest reason why they're trailing by as much as they are they better go in at half time and make some big time adjustments running it back it's Fox they'll get down and put a stop for this return they'll mark it at the 32 West Virginia has it in the offense ready to go to work this offense has really been clicking in the game so far Jesse no doubt everything that he'll take the Deep shot and he pulls it ins inside 15 yd line touchdown M he broke away from the defense and they couldn't catch him have a day young fell I foresee some social media posts in his future not one not two but three receiving touchdowns on the day what a ball game and he knocks the extra point through the uprights about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown takes it inside the 25 and he'll bring it back he's brought down after a good return gets it out to the 31 offense getting set for first down he's looking to throw it fires to the wide out incomplete thanks to the great defensive pressure there that sort of threw the out of rhythm offense gets set for second down dropping back it's Danier he's got his man a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half passing game very effective on second down what about here on third from the gun wants to pass pressure coming and the Freshman will talk up a sack what a great job by this defense setting the tone early in the first half they've been back early and often make him feel uncomfortable make him feel that pressure keep getting him on the ground that's why they've built a lead makes a mo that Nifty return sets up the offense and the gates some of the yardage on the punt time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half looking to move it through the air going for it all it's incomplete and they tried to finish this quarter with a bang and couldn't quite connect first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connors in our halim update guys looks like you've got a great atmosphere today in Albuquerque and we have to start this halftime breakdown by addressing the play of this Elite wide receiver this is clearly a young man who once he's finished playing on Saturdays he's going to be playing on Sundays the kid has different gears he has a knack for finding gaps in the defense and I can't remember a college player with that kind of catch radius and with that let's send it back to the guys at University Stadium the Mountaineers will kick it off to start the second running daylight from 25 needed just a little more help and turn that into a big return they'll Mark him down at the 29 we will get another look at this New Mexico offense got blown out in the first half and now just desperate to find anything to generate momentum here in the third quarter it just starts with one play though you just need one thing to go right for this offense to start to build that momentum and then that becomes infectious for the defense for special teams everything can change it just takes one point it really can and it's so strange and you can't quantify and I don't know how and it's slipped out oh and he's able to get it back good thing for him good awareness by the offense you never want to see the ball on the ground but a nice job understanding to just kind of jump on and make sure you keep possession back to throw it's dampier that has intercepted looking for more room he's at the 10 and he's going to score on the interception touchdown West Virginia what a play by this defense with the pick six and how about the defender exactly what you're supposed to do breaks on the football makes the interception everybody on defense we turn to offense go lay some blocks so my guy can get it and take it back to the house they're about to kick it away and the defense probably can't wait to get back out there after the pick six he'll start the return inside his five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 let's see what the Loos offense has dialed up this time well the good news is they threw a touchdown pass last time it was just to the wrong team Jesse well that's an unfortunate part of the game for quarterbacks but guess what they do Happ you got to be able to turn the page here and leave this offense well I think you know this defense is going to be aggressive they're going to jump routes they're going to play aggressive you got to take advantage of that maybe use that this time to your advantage he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple not just so you get to make a big play on defense but it's also a tfl tackle for loss doesn't get better than that on third down he drops to throw unloads to the wide out fires the pass intercepted trying to take it back inside the 10 and with the interception he'll take it all the way back touchdown [Applause] MERS the DB saw it he thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he didn't the pick six hey these guys can play offense too now look at this I showed you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out at wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job Mak the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down don't be content take that thing all the way back brother and it's caught from inside the 20 and here he comes and the returner will be brought down let's see what the lobo's offense has in store the big thing now don't get rattled by that last pick six David N it was a big mistake they get enough rush and it pays off the sack at the 20 and those outside linebackers nowadays they're so fast they got to cover ground but you can Blitz them off the edge and they can get after quarterbacks versatile that's why they're getting drafted so high in the NFL and getting paid all day they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down wow this offense is just stuck in the mud they've already punted four times and it's third down now back to throw it's Danier and the pass rush is effective and they tackle him at the 19 and it's been a long day I mean there's not much to point out that this offense has done well they're behind huge and they got no shot if they can't somehow find a way to protect their quarterback slips through the line no he got loose that's a perfect example of not settling for a fair catch pick up whatever yardage you can and help out the offense West Virginia has back ready to dive into that Playbook line gets set first down he wants to throw a shot toward the end zone TD and the route is on this is like a baseball pitcher that can't miss he is just pounding pounding pounding the strike zone it just gets in the zone right and you can't miss you you've seen quarterbacks like no matter what they do they're on fire they're hitting the receivers and listen that's also on the defense the defense has to do a better job making him feel uncomfortable changing what they're doing in coverage so he's a little bit confused you can't just let him pick you apart and he passes on the touch here he comes that gamble did not pay off as they bring him down at the 12 yd line first down for this offense takes a hand off it's Henry they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well there's a statement by the defensive line first down play expecting run and they just dominated up front beat their one-on ones and force a tackle for a loss and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 quarterback adapted and he to get away but he cannot he's taken down he'll lose a couple this has been a frustrating day and I'm not sure it's going to get any better you're already down huge listen this offense can't protect this quarterback they don't do anything right right now this defense has had their number all game long looking for a block it's Fox he's brought down but really solid effort to pick up every bit of yard he could on the return West Virginia has the offense ready to go to work out of the gun they give to the back and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that blush out of the pocket he'll try to do it himself he'll be down at the four yd line after that terrific run there's a couple of ways to deal with quarterbacks that can run like that so well QB contained keep those ends outside and wide keep him in the pocket and put a spy on him put a guy in the middle of the field who's really fast that has the West Virginia and The Stomping has commenced well just as you would expect that didn't take very long it didn't reent you've got to make great field position count when You' got opportunities you got to it the defense took advantage scoring a touchdown didn't have far to go but they got the points they needed lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return now New Mexico will go back to work on offense boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath start playing like a unit on this drive wide out in motion they'll go to the Jet Sweep to try to get the edge here and he gets it up to the 36 it'll be a first down this defense is in for a long day because they're not going to have to only play with great awareness and eye discipline they're going to have to be willing to run sideline to sideline and have to try to shut down receivers like that on jet sweeps and they'll pick up the first down and it at the 47 and they bring him down but did you see this freshman rifle that thing in there scanning the field it's Danier he finds his man and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pick up still some work to do after that last completion at second down takes a hand off it's Henry they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one coaches preach all week about physicality physicality that is how you do it that is how you put it on tape that's how you show everybody in the locker room everybody on the field this is how our defense is going to be do not run the football cuz we will knock you senseless and they'll move the change the down that might be it for the third quarter guys that's the end of the quarter and West Virginia has the lead this has been utter domination through three quarters and The Stance will back that up they'll break the seal on this quarter here on first down he's going to pass throws to the wide out and he is finding wide open Defenders all over the field his third interception of the day he was looking for room to return that but he'll just hand it to the offense they'll take over at the 18 West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook this has been exactly the way you draw things up David the offense has really been moving the football and it's been great they've done exactly what they've wanted to do build the lead now Palmer is a different animal now you got to protect it you can tell they were paying attention in practice this week in the film room because they have gone out everybody right now on the same page here's the hand off a run up the middle is Stu for No Gain how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions and the incomplete pass on third down but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's about the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty and the Mountaineers line up to punt it away finally sending out a punter in this one got to make sure they earn their letter the offense lining up for a first down play he's looking to throw it catch in the middle it's suan didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium he's looking to throw steps away he's going to run it got to protect the merchandise gets down without taking a hit here on third down [Music] wants to throw it's Danier and they fail to hook up on third down and it's just been that kind of day for this quarterback in this offense guys they have never been able to get into a rhythm throwing the football timing's been off accuracy hasn't been great we've seen some drops just not in sync that's why they find themselves trailing by a lot right here late game West Virginia has it in the offense ready to go to work they'll have another opportunity extend this lead after punting last time David and it's important to put that punt behind you it's it's over let it go get back to what you were doing that built this lead P yeah and defense obviously they won a few Downs uh that last drive so we got to put them on their heels here maybe mix up a few Personnel groupings and try to show them some pictures they haven't seen yet starting this drive like that is exactly what they had hoped for now first and 10 from the 40 got him and it's white oh big Juke to get pass and he is marked out of bounds after another big game this aerial attack has had no problem moving the ball with chunk plays and man this quarterback has had a day with that pass he goes over 300 yards on the day really nice job executing putting up some yards today pretty good day for the young man sweet cut there he showed it all there a little elusiveness a little power and he's got the first down the clock is my friend if I can do this late in the ball game with a lead and I can continue to run the football and they have no answers well then I'm going to walk away with a win so listen I wouldn't change a thing I'd keep pounding the football keep running the clock they'll run it this clock grinding gets it inside the 25 down to the 22 yd line with a pick up of four and it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot they'll give it to the back and he's brought to the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down well I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride and they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the dline they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the first got enough space down Mountaineers and the beat down has ensued lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point just TS a little bit more onto this huge lead about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown from a couple of yards deep he'll bring it out out and they'll get him on the ground as the offense comes out to start the next Drive looking for a productive play on first down they'll crank up this drive with the pass and the ball comes out what a disastrous play and the defense got it touchdowners the defense with the scoop and score what a play by the defense there loose football country fumble pick it up with room scoop and score no doubt country versus City when it's a country fumble nobody around I got to pick that puppy up and do some damage with it nice job seeing the situation scooping it up making a play now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and with the extra point they push the lead out a little further the kickoff team just about set to go and that defense is eager to get back out there after the scoop and score he'll return it and the coverage team able to make the tackle we will get another look at this New Mexico offense well this has pretty much been an evisceration an oldfashioned stomping Jesse Yeah and listen this is one of those games where you're not necessarily throwing the play trash after this one but I do think this coaching staff David really has to be honest with themselves and rethink what schemes are working and not working and which guys maybe need to get more touches in this offense well I I think I like the TR and the pressure gets there and down he goes at the 18 and man is that a just indictment of the day your quarterback getting drilled late in the football game this offense has sputtered they haven't found any kind of good Rhythm they haven't done things that that really gives your coach confidence and makes you want to believe in them this offense has a lot of work to do before their next football game a third and long coming up here getting some heat the quarter CAU up and sacked at the the defense puts the exclamation point on the day they have had a wonderful day man doing everything great just you could tell they were dialed into what was going on and now just throw another in the equation hitting the quarterback being disrupted they've been all over the field a huge return there steps out of bounds but manity put his team in great position West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook final minute this game's on Ice they can take a knee and run out the clock this offense has to feel great with how they're able to got some room enter to the goal line touchdown West Virginia and the Ping has started man this has been a complete performance the defense has been lights out and the offense obviously just continues to pour it on this is what you call having a great day putting it all together offense defense complimentary football almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown looking for daylight from inside his 20 probably needed to pick up an extra block or two but as it is he'll be stopped at the 28 this drive from the 28 yd line back to pass it's Danier takes the easy one to the back and a quick completion an even quicker loss the defense was right there to knock him down second down coming up coming after it and the heat will get home and the quarterback goes down at the 17 and it's simply been that kind of day for this offense theyve had so many struggles and at this point in the fourth quarter you're trailing by a ton of points the defense knows you're throwing it and they're pinning their ears and the pressure gets to him again another sack so from his own in zone the punt is away running it back it's fox really explosive when he gets his hands on the ball and he found a couple of crevices and made nice game before being run out of bounds this is what an elite team does they know they're better they go
