got to get that by I Local 63 live from the score Atlanta Television Studios in North Atlanta this is Georgia high school sports daily powered by IBEW Local 613 10987654321 going e e e e e e e e live from the score Atlanta Television Studios in North Atlanta this is Georgia high school sports daily powered by IBEW Local 613 good afternoon everybody IJ Rosenberg from score Atlanta you're watching the Georgia high school sports daily powered by ibe W Local 613 and my partner here Nai Wilkins rough day yesterday yes yeah with appalache everything we're going to talk about that uh in a few minutes with everything the shooting for dead up at appalache high school that's of course on the way to Athens and just a a difficult time for a lot of people and we'll talk more about that first of all you're watching the sports daily we're here every day uh from noon until 1 uh Monday through Friday talking High School sports whether it's football can be volleyball softball we've done a a softball report we'll have a recruiting report today also just want to continue to tell you ways to watch the show first of all you can watch us on pet3 Sports Network which is available on exfinity YouTube television overthe a channel 17.2 you can also go to the Atlanta news first app which is a really very good app that we also use on Friday nights for our games so it's the same link all the time and uh you can also go to score atl.com go up to the tab on the right side there's a green tab there uh which will tell you about how to watch a show and you can link from there to watch the games and my friend Naji also uh puts the shows up every day on our YouTube channel so when you go to youtube.com make sure you search for score Atlanta go SC and you'll see all the different shows that we have whether it's our games on Friday night and go back and watch corki Kel the Great Atlanta bash which is a good game between mil Creek and Norcross and of course our Friday night games and the other way to watch is every night there will be an encore presentation of this show at 11 on the peak Street Sports Network so let's go to the headlines and and na before we really get into it it was just such a you know it h us yesterday right before the show around 10:35 we got the news that there was an active shooter at appalache a 14-year-old student uh who killed four people uh two of them of course teachers um and just a extremely sad situation uh two students two 14-year-old students Mason Shimmer horn and Christian and Glo uh passed away and then the two coaches is well is actually one coach and one teacher both Math teachers Richard Aspen Wall who was a football coach uh he actually played his high school football on the right here at Rome high school he also coached at Dunwoody and Mountain View and Christina hermy a teacher math teacher on the left uh also lost her life and just just a horrible horrible situation and just continues to happen you I mean it just no matter what this country wants to try to do with guns or anything and we're I don't want to get into the gun control thing but at the same time it's hit us it's hit a lot closer to home this time yes we only 45 minutes from our office right there in W Georgia so unfortunate to obviously see that our prayers that condolences go to the Appalachia community and uh we're just so sorry to hear that we're here for support and we send our prayers to you guys yeah and actually na I had a friend David Phoenix who I played football with at Lakeside High scho was a teammate for me for a long time I think five years that I was at Lakeside he was also a classmate we graduated together big guy big lman good player uh he was actually shot in the foot okay and then shot again in the hip with shattered his hip uh and they LIF flighted him out of there and did the operation and he he actually married his high school sweetheart who went to school with us and she's been putting Facebook uh information out there on him he under surgery repair of the hip yesterday um and he seems to be doing a little bit better I'm going to actually try to give him a call today uh but like the four that have passed and the four that have killed that were killed and of course the many that were injured we sent our love and prayers uh from score Atlanta and uh you know it's just it's a difficult situation and you know this hits us all you know whether it's football or uh you know teaching you know Math teachers and it's just so sad na you to see these their lives yeah it's unfortunate and hopefully you know we not get into all that but hope we get some perform something we can do to not how allow this to continue to happen because it matters with these students being here it matters their lives matter and you know the other thing na you before we get to the rest of the headlines is is that you know I go into a lot of schools and so do you and it it surpris it still surprises me that you know when I went down to Cedar Grove I went through the magneter like you do at the airport and you feel safe once you get through that and they're checking everything but there's still a lot of schools that can just pretty much walk the doors and you know they're not metal detectors and stuff and you know I don't understand why these County boards you know this they need to come up with the money to put in so you know they have metal detectors at the front of every school 100% that starts with the administration you know Administration has to put different things and Implement certain policies in so that you know you taking all the the clues and you putting that in so like this doesn't happen all right let's get to the rest of the headlines Nai as we move through the show yes sir so number two is going to be North fory Wing London Weaver she committed to University of Tennessee Chattanooga yesterday she is a star for North forai led her team to the state championship game against Maris she was named for South count County tip off Club Player of the Year Georgia basketball coaches association All State team region 86a player of the year and she also set a points record last year with 592 points during her Junior season and she 18.5 points per game and 5.9 rebounds one of the best players in the state good player our third headline Bo Walker will play a senior season actually up at Raven Gap Jeff sentel who's done some work for us in the past of nog Nation uh told uh said yesterday that he enrolled uh bo was a a really really good football player at Cedar Grove last year correct yeah Cedar Grove last year a couple thousand yards um unfortunately followed tried to follow his coach uh it didn't work so the GHSA basically tried to go to Stockbridge and actually tried to you know to get eligible there the GHSA said he was not eligible because he followed his coach so he is going to Raven Gap Raven Gap is in Georgia but they play in the North Carolina Independent League and they've accepted him there so I'm you know what I'm glad he's getting to play football yes that's what I mean at the end of the day look there's a lot of issues there's a lot of transfers going on you know Naji I've gotten over the fact that this is just the way it is it's like college football you're either gonna accept it and try to do your best with it or you just gonna have to turn your head and go just like Nick s and get out of it yeah and this is a situation so I'm glad Bo he'll play at Raven Gap and I think he's gonna probably play Friday night yeah I think he is it's a pretty good team yeah yeah for sure and then number four is going to be kill sophomore her name is Lila macei uh she got the long HS back on top she had a great game she was three or four with a two run Homer pitched a complete game while striking out five to Le kill to an 84 victory over Cambridge in region 6 4A play this past Tuesday um also she is a right-handed pitcher and an outfielder in first basem she is rated as the number nine overall um Prospect in the class of 2027 via extra Elite 100 the victory moved the longh horns to 11-3 5- one um in the region into a first place tie a top with the Bears who they defeated this past Tuesday the teams which hold a two and a half game lead on third place westmin will face off one more time this season when kale host Cambridge September 19th so shout out to uh Lea Maurice for doing her thing and being one of the best uh here in the state our final headline Jean Brody Tiff County a really good coach down there coached from 1976 uh to 1993 won 131 games over 18 Seasons a couple of the Tiff players have decided that they're going to dedicate a locker to him which they have already done uh he also won a State title by the way Brody was Central making in 1975 the year that he was actually hired at Tiff County but one of the great names of the past I certainly remember him you know when he was at Tiff County years ago uh and like I said won a lot of championships up there it really turn Tiff County into a special place he also really helped Tiff County make the transition to new facilities you know and different things like that so want to congratulate him on that you know Naji before you know we we break let's go back to the appalache thing a little bit and talk about that I know that you know the football team they used to actually be a Powerhouse at one time they they went through a really good Spurt of of having really good football team and it's going to be real interesting to see because sometimes in situations like this when you have these types of stories it's sports that brings the kids back together very true and um I know that they've called off school for the rest of the week um we'll check and see about their game I'm not sure that they're gonna play Friday night uh but you know getting everybody I think we saw pictures yesterday a lot of the kids they were congregating on the stadium grounds and stuff like that parents pick them up but you know at this school they' you know they're going to have some obviously they'll have some counseling for for the kids that need it um and you know this is going to be a tough situation for their leadership up at appalache and like I said sometimes Sports can you know bring a school together so we'll see you know maybe the football team losing a defensive quarter D or like that it's going to be interesting to see how they move forward yeah it can kind of galvanize the troops a little bit when you think about it I me think about the situation we're going to have their head coach on here in just a little bit and they have cars and Strong shirts after you know suffering that injury so could be the same thing they are on three right now but this could be a situation where hey let's play for our defensive coordinate let's we're actually playing for something and that can help bring everybody together for one purpose and one goal yeah and you know it's just so sad to look at the you know to look at the pitchers and stuff and you know we've seen so many school shootings you know all over the country and everything like that but you know we haven't seen one here yet one of this gu is the way to say it yes sir certainly so it's you know it's going to be it's going to be a tough road for them and like I said we'll continue to report on appalache and let you know what's going on all right coming up uh we've got Jeremy Johnson of dog HQ uh he's one of one of our friends that works with Rusty Manel speaking of Rusty Manel we will have him on next week you're gonna see a lot of Rusty Manel on this show and he's also going to be helping us uh get other uh you know players that want to commit so we'll talk about that all right right now you're watching the Georgia high school sports daily we'll be right back hey is the power off on this I don't know just take it off safety violation unsaved Jeremy Johnson just real quickly in this morning Naji they they previewed some of their what they call their top 10 games and one of our our games number two yes okay so their their top game well at least the game they have listed number one is Buford at Roswell should be interesting you know Roswell is always tough always tough W Coast team Ro coach team Carville at Calhoun of course is our TV game uh Green County at orgon County we've got Hughes at Douglas County which I think will be a na football game that'll be a very physical game Jones County plays at Ola North Cobb who will have on television in a couple weeks Naji is at Cass that should be a really really good football Cass of course in our Cori H has done a they've really turned that program around another big one in guette County will be North grette at mil Creek who wins that who you like to know I'm going I'm going north I like mil Creek I just there's something special about this North quette team that went down to cut last week rockart at Ringle um Stevens County at Jefferson and then we've got Warner Robbins at palston County all right right now on zoom we're gonna bring Jeremy Johnson in good friend H Jeremy works with Rusty Manel on on three and at dogs HQ Jeremy welcome to the show how you doing I'm good how you guys doing so tell Jeremy tell everybody a little bit because you know dogs HQ is a little over a year old now and uh just talk a little bit how you guys are doing and what you're doing because I've been real impressed by the coverage that you um and Chad and of course Rusty are giving especially to Georgia Bulldog well yeah we uh we try to cover the University of Georgia's football program from angle from practice reports to injuries to going into the games watching what to look for watching the games themselves and breaking that down and just giving you the news of what happens uh on the recruiting end you know I try to You Know cover as many angles with the recruiting as I can obviously Georgia is a national program so they're recruiting from this Coast to the West Coast to Canada they got a guy from Germany that they got committed uh recently so it's it's a job where you you cover it from his many angles as you can and that's that's kind of what we what we are like to do over here at HQ let's talk about the performance of true freshman last week KJ Bowden played at Buford I gotta ask you did you see that coming Georgia started 11 true freshman he looked like the best one I think he got a PFF grade of like 74 what was your thoughts on his performance I mean he he he's had a lot of hype and a lot of you know Fan Fair with his Recruitment and there was a reason for that I think people saw the reason for that and uh Saturday so you know he he was a five star from the moment where he got offers as a ninth grader and he's he's living up to it he's got speed um one thing that really stood out was his physicality uh that tackle he made early on in that game against Phil mof Phil mofa was he's a guy that we all saw play in at Grayson High School he's a big physical running back and KJ went there took them legs away and that was something that was really impressive just right off the back I think that kind of loosened him up a little bit to to be able to make plays later in the game like I'm I'm involved in this game after that play So I was not surprised you know obviously he's got a a ton of ability it's just a matter of him get comfortable with that defense and playing at that college level so we're talking we're talking to Jeremy Johnson of on three dogs egg shoe Jeremy tell me this um Georgia seems to recruit up here at this level okay and then maybe Alabama sits below them um um and a couple you know Ohio State and stuff like that but it seems like Kirby Smart has put a lot of distance really on the recruiting Trail between himself and you could probably say the rest of the country sorry could you repeat the question sorry what I was what I was saying is is it seems like that what's happened at Georgia is Kirby from a recruiting perspective has sort of put himself in Georgia up here and then there seems to be everybody else I mean how how has that happened and I I know a little bit about Kirby you know I I know a lot about University of Alabama and how they recruited over there um but tell us how that's happened and what Cirby does That's So Special where he's coming up with these number one or number two classes every year I think it's a couple things I think their iners evaluation is probably as good if not better than anyone else they get guys on campus and they work them out and they go through the camp setting and they're able to compare what they're seeing in guys just going through workouts and they're able to see what they compare to the guys that have on their current roster you know they go through the drills and they look like oh the guy that starts for us right now can do the same types of things or he can run a 44 flat you know those type of things matter to Georgia and I think that's where they're creating the separation not only with the elite guys but the guys that may not necessar is high highly coming into high coming into college um but the guys that they're finding they're making impact over the couple of not necessarily day one but year two three and four for them and um I do think it's his personality too I think he's really genuine I think he had he carries himself like a player still you know he was a great player at Georgia so I think he still has a lot of that that relatability with today's athlete there a recruit ium specifically ask you about seen a story uh it was reported by J May I've seen that Walker schide County here in Georgia his transition from Edge to inside linebacker what is your thoughts on that move and do you foresee him possibly playing that same Ro inside lineer for Georgia or would he play Edge yours yeah he'll definitely be an inside inside linebacker I think that kind of was the the reasoning behind the move for him to start getting some of those reps and getting some of that this a different look than playing The Edge playing The Edge you could theoretically be taken out of the game by just running opposite direction but as linebacker he's having to process the his defense but then also having to process the keys of what the offensive line is doing um and also having to play and coverage a little more and he's doing that he's going through that process and he's uh he's making that transition so he's he's learning it it wasn't you know's he's still trying to get the ins and outs of the position but um I do think that's where he would play next year he'll have some time to learn because Georgia has has a lot of talent at position next year now I want to ask you this J me obviously get out of here what's the latest Buzz that you're hearing in the recruiting world uh as far as pertains to Georgia I know 25 classes for the most part is pretty much solidified but I know they're still out there trying to get Elijah Griffin Justice Terry of Manchester and I know possibly even CJ Wilder what's the latest you're hearing yeah I mean Georgia is still working on all three of those guys both Justice Terry and Elijah Griffin were in Atlanta last week CJ Wy is a guy I expect to visit at some point I don't know don't know exactly when but will guy that will be on campus at some point this fall uh there's a lot of new offers that have been handed out uh Joseph mbachu A guy from graying Josiah Victor is a guy at graying that's also being recruited some of these new names that haven't necessarily been in the spotlight are starting to kind of become big time targets Braxton KY at northwet another name that chase linton's also going to be in anth this weekend so there's a couple guys that are that are new to the scene that are have become big time targets for Georgia Jeremy we want to thank you for joining us please tell your Associates and Rusty hello we really appreciate you coming on yes sir we appreciate you guys you Jeremy Jeremy Johnson of on three and dogs HQ they do a a really good job it's incredible how Georgia recruits I mean it really is and I I know a lot about what's going on in Alabama but I'll tell you what I will admit Georgia is up here Alabama's just th but there but Georg is up here anyway when we get back we're gonna be talking to breaman head coach David Russell whose quarterback Carson Kimbell had that spinal injury last Friday e e e e e Georgia high school sports daily is presented by Georgia Construction careers.com transform your future today and by smart local 85 sheet metal is a smart move all right welcome back to the Georgia high school Sports Daily brought to you by IBEW don't forget to check out scor atl.com a lot of good information every day on their rankings you know we do the rankings for football we do the rankings for volleyball and softball occasionally you'll pick up a cross country story uh but a lot of good information that we update every day and we've got a good story today we talked a little bit about the mil Creek North brette game coming up tomorrow night that game will be played at mil Creek that's a it's not a region match up but it is a huge football game and Max one of our high school writers will be writing a preview today so if you check back at the website probably around two or three o'clock it's the story on that game want to bring in Breeman head football coach David Russell uh of course DAV is the head coach at Breeman last Friday had the news of his quarterback uh Carson Kimbell had a spinal injy and was actually operated on Saturday morning uh for a crushed C6 vertebra and uh want to welcome you coach Russell and thank you for coming on first of all C coach tell us a little bit what happened if you could sort of just you know sort of take us back to when he when he got hurt yeah just it was kind first off thanks thanks for having me to to talk about thanks Co talk about Carson a little bit um uh he so he he got sacked um his arms kind of got pinned and and when they did his head head top of his head hit the turf and then the full weight of another defensive lineman kind of landed right on top of him and the C6 vertebrae exploded um into into three parts they compared it to a motorcycle wreck at 100 miles an hour um our medical staff was incredible uh to the field in a hurry they did everything right um got him in the ambulance they were going to Life Flight him instead they they drove him to Grady which has been an unbelievable blessing um he uh he had surgery in the we hours of the morning uh to repair that and then um over the last three or four days uh we we've had some tremendous progress that I'm not even sure the doctor thought that we he would have um he's had some nerve ending feelings he's had some vibrations in his legs that was something that he wasn't given much of a chance to have and uh he's going to the shepherd center tomorrow which is the best place in the world and Dad git he's gonna get out of there and he's gonna walk out and we're all going to celebrate we we wonder why something like this happens but he's gonna have a great story to tell um so we're uh we're we're in prayers that that everything everything uh Works no matter how slow or fast that that we we get our quarterback out of there coach Russell talk a little bit about that preparation of your medical staff because you said they were right there as soon as it happened I feel like that is an underrated part when we see injuries like they have to be ready to go and be there for the player just talk about them being ready to go for that moment you know in kind of that crazy situation but our athletic trainer Kathy Matthews was incredible Jared Luke our assistant he was incredible um the team uh Bill Hightower U who who uh he kind of directed everything while we were out there um they kept it they kept Carson stable um they they did everything they needed to do it was unbelievable to see uh everybody come to action and be so professional and prepared uh for that because you know that's a and that's the in my 17 years and you know you most people go a whole career without ever seeing something like that and I hope like crazy everybody does but uh for them to be as prepared and professional as they were was really impressive we're talking to breaman head coach David Russell coach tell us about the moment that you're running out on the field and that you kneel beside him what do you remember from that moment the biggest thing that he said look first off I try not to get in the way those guys are doing such a good job um but Carson Carson's such a good kid he says he says uh you know I'm sorry coach you know he's one of those guys and I said you're gonna be all right and I love you and he said I am I'm gonna be okay this is gonna be okay that's just the type of kid type of kid that he is um and and so you know uh both teams I think their team huddled and prayed and our team huddled and prayed and uh but but but you know like I said I I want to stay out of the way of those medical professionals but as he's leaving uh I tell him you're going to be great you're a winner I love you uh when I I'm not exaggerating when I say he's one of the best kids I've ever been around he he even in even in his State he's in right now all he's thinking about is his teammates just who he is so um you know I I just got back from there but when I went on Tuesday after practice or before uh he said how how's Eli doing Eli's a backup quarterback that's the first thing he asked is how how's how's Eli you know so he he's just a selfless dude so coach tell me let's let's Ashley let's put the graphic back up on the vertebra um so it's the C6 vertebra my wife helped me with this she's an occupation therapist so she knows the spine pretty well coach that's obviously it's right right above the shoulders you know sort of lower vertebra of the neck um and you talked about it exploding can you tell us anything about the surgery and what they tried to do to repair it yeah and I'm gonna mess this up bad that's all right um they put in a a titanium like Cube around that vertebra to to get it to start fusing back so so they put in it's not just a rod it's like a cube that that forms infuses around that vertebrae to get everything to to to grow back and and if that doesn't then there would be a second surgery required however as of right now everything looks looks really good um so and he's he's having some feeling in the lower part of his body correct he he sure is um U he he's had vibrations in both legs um and uh toes his his reflex test on his toes has been great and man's he he I think today they grab that one of his toes and his leg kind of jerk back a little bit so we got some great Great Signs um that are huge winds um and they seem like nothing to a lot of folks but if small victories small Victor could uh a bunch of small victories is what's going to get him out of there and and we need a little small victory every day and as a final question uh coach I want to ask you just what's a message to your group after something like that happens like what's been a message to them this week to kind of you know calm everything after something like that happens uh tough tough times are hard they're less hard when we're all together um and then I don't have to have a message because Carson's had the message um we were all moping around here Monday and Carson sent a text and he said y'all better fly around today and and you better kick McNair's butt I mean so he's from his hospital bed still being our leader and he's leading me um and and that's just a kid he is coach real quickly how can people contribute to the GoFundMe page there's a GoFundMe link you can find it about anywhere if you look up Carson Kimble GoFundMe if have access to a covis bank there's accounts that are set up just for Carson um and and and there's other other ways to give there's t-shirt sales and stuff like that and and then just be in constant prayer for this family they uh they need them and and D them they're working right now so um whatever everybody's doing right now is working so keep it up well coach David Russell from Brean we certainly want to thank you for coming on uh you know our love and prayers are with you and your player and the rest of your team in your community thanks coach thank you all appreciate it thank you for making this public thanks sir all right coming up on the Georgia high school sports daily we've got the composite football rankings right coming back what happens after you graduate trades Institute and change your financial future all right welcome back to the Georgia high school sports daily it's Thursday afternoon we got a couple more segments left we brought to you by ibw uh we're going to get to our portion of the show where we look at the composite rankings and if we could go on and put 6A up I'll explain where all these rankings come from of course the AJC our partners at the Georgia high school football uh morning daily you know they handle the AJC rankings and then we've got a new group out there itg that's doing them then of course there's our score Atlanta 680 the fan does rankings uh and then we've got that's the the MW is the maxw well that's the computer correct I think that's the computer and then MP is Max Preps so one two three four what six of us that are doing rankings so these are all composite rankings that the daily in the morning does every week and they just use the numbers uh to basically add up and come up with the ranking and bringing Craig Sager who along with Naji handles our football rankings of course you've got Douglas County you're the only one that has Douglas County uh number one the AJC has Carolton number one 680 M wmp Maxwell has Carolton number one couple of them have Buford at number two uh but you've got dougas County I I agree with you here okay I I think that of any team in the state they probably I don't know if they're the best team in the state but I think they have the big you know the most talent but Craig talk a little bit about why you've got them ranked number one yeah it was a t decision uh Carolton they were right up there and you can see I denied them that perfect 60 score that's why Carolton is still number one at 59 but I do have Douglas County at one so that gives him the 59 points with this Douglas County team the last few years you saw it building they're so solid on defense and then this year I really think their offense is going to take the next level and what impressed me most uh week one which is why I changed it was that first quarter against Cedar Gro they had two fourth downs and they had the confidence to go for it and run the ball with all their skill players if they had the offensive line the discipline the balance offensively coach white and his staff can pick and choose how they're going to affect you offensively and I think they have a team that can really control the pace of the game all right do you think so do you think that 6A is a three- team race between Carolton Buford and Douglas County or is North gwet mil Creek I mean Collins Hill has been a huge surprise I thinkk you got to throw Grayson in there and I agree just talked about nor Beret as well that would be my top five that's right and then so this week's going to be interesting because 6A is loaded with out of state matchup so it's hard to really tell how much you can take away from that uh Grayson's gonna have a big Mard Creek matchup I'm not sure who's favorite in that one you got all of South Georgia scoring off with the four the powerhouses but there are some key matchups that will affect the rankings number one is going to be the North guette and mil Creek if northwet comes out and has a solid win over a mil Creek team that we saw beat Norcross I think people are really going to start to look at them as a complete team that can make a run and of course they've done it before and Craig before we get to 5A you know one of the things not to or not to forget is C count I mean look it's early in the season these are non-region games these games don't count I mean as far as standings are concerned uh CIT you know lost a big one at home last week uh to North gwet but you know that's another team not to count out all right let's go to five uh where everybody is in agreement uh we've got Milton uh up there they get the six excuse me the 60 points the number one spot uh from everyone uh we've seen them at seven on seven uh seen some tape on them uh maybe the best team in the state yeah Milton and Pierce County the the two scores they're consensus number ones they started the season like that to me this week in 5A you have a lot of buys you got Milton off games was going to be off U but the big Trend we've seen is 5A has stacked up very well against 6A this season Roswell beat Walton last week so then this week how is Hughes gonna do against Douglas County how's Roswell gonna do against Buford so that's kind of the storyline we'll be watching the rankings can 5A have another very successful week against six real quick to your point I think l h on that was number six I think they rated way too low Christian has been having a really good season they have a really good offensive line with the best in the state that nobody talks about enough to various dice that Auburn commit D was committed to Georgia they got some guys skill guys as well they really good in Carson M those right well and I think the other big one in 5A is to see to to really figure out how good gains for is you know and and to figure out how good Roswell is I mean we'll see you know obviously what roswell's got Friday night when they play Buford but if they can beat Buford then I think that you've got to throw them up at the top and they're a team to consider for the state championship all right let's go down to 4A where we've got meis on top meis is two and0 um we picked them number two uh the ajc's got them number one but they right now are ahead of everybody else as far as the points are concerned and uh you know it's interesting because you've got what north of con at number one so talk about that because they of course are down the list for most of the other organizations that are picking think North a con they all right so when they started making this Ascension upwards to becoming a state title Contender it was when they used to get bullied around in the playoffs by Cedar toown back when they had those real physical teams and then the next year it's a little bit closer they've matched the physicality so that's not an issue for them anymore no one gets after it harder than they do in the wait room state-ofthe-art stuff that's why they're pretty much the new Buford across the boards athletically and the quarterback for North Count's uh the tech Buster fer son yeah so they have just such solid Playmakers I think they're really well coached team they know the game plan they're motivated and they do have a favor favorable region so I see them getting home field in the playoffs and they're definitely I in State title that is coming from the coach and the players I can't tell you how hard I try to get northone and corki all right let's go to threea uh we've got Sandy Creek on top at three and 0 um pretty much everybody believes that we got Jefferson Peach County Monroe Area Mary persons those your undefeated teams on top real quickly 3A for me obviously OB s k is number one of one of the best teams Caleb H has comeing as a sophomore has really andar is I think one of the best quarter in the country what he's doing so far this year they' just picked up a 27 win against I mean this have so many weapons on the outside and one more Cory Hatley J 2027 already one of the top 10 players in the state of Georgia speaking of that real quick lrange opens up region two play tonight against Trinity Christian that'll be one to watch all right let's go to 2A where you mentioned before Peters Count's number one with all of us they're top we got Stevens County County Morgan County of course just real quickly on Tua yeah it will be really hard to keep Pierce County at number one if Stevens County is able to beat Jefferson this week that is a huge match up it's going to be number two and 3A versus number two and 2A between Jefferson and Stevens County let's go down to class a division one uh where we've got Thomasville on top and I think guys this is where the reeding of the classification sort of helps a school like Thomasville two big matchups let's talk about it number one Thomasville has Thomas County Central this week and then Toms county has Rome goodness sign me up for that one I mean TS county has one of the best athletes I think in the state with lonza Hayward he was on our Mia football watch list this past week so I mean those are two fired up match ups that I'm excited for all right real quickly let's go down to class a division two and that's irn County three and0 guys so I was looking at this one when you look at the playoff rating system that's what's actually going to set the seating you have Lincoln Count's actually number one because bow and had that lost of Fellowship Christian but in terms of our rankings Iran county has The Undefeated start bowden's battle tested but in that same region you're gonna have Bowen Manchester and Green County all right real quickly class 3A to a private which is a new one Savannah Christian my opinion one of the best teams in this you know in the state you know much less where they're at for that now that's going to be a big one so those are our composite Rings our final segment today we got a new one it's going to be called the south Georgia Spotlight got a really good interview coming up on the Georgia high school sports da e can you all hear them hello hello can you hear me now yeah sounds good sorry what was that so we we our first game was against Mary person and then uh we have a game this Friday night as our uh an exhibition game or not still non- region for us all right welcome back to the Georgia high school sports daily brought to you by IBEW we're here at the score Studios a new score Studios uh here in Roswell and our first week of shows will be on every day from 12: to 1 you can watch the show again on P Street TV excuse me P Street Sports Network PSN uh every night at 11m but right now this is our final segment of the day we got a new one it's called the S South Georgia Spotlight it's this one's sort of South Georgia I guess it's more about maybe Northern Canada uh but we've got Canada coach Darnell sakori uh who brought his team down to Georgia last week to play Mary persons coach how you doing good how about you guys so first of all tell us because you've been down here but the first question I have for you what's the biggest difference from the football that you first of all where where do y'all play in Canada so we are based this a I'd say about 15 miles out from Vancouver Canada so our school is one of the bigger School in the province and so we play at the AAA level in what we call the Lower Mainland uh here in BC so tell me you know after coming down here and watching Georgia football down here what's sort of what are the big differences that you see other than maybe a little bit on the talent side I was gonna say height weight speed could I repeat that two or three times but you know like um the biggest thing that we see is just how well coached that the kids are um there's a major investment into the program uh down here in Georgia even for what you guys would consider a smaller school at merry person's right so um you know the the production of Friday Night Lights is what's so cool for our kids to go see with the bands the cheerleaders and so much more and um you know the Mary person has a coaching staff of about 15 coaches that are in the school itself and it's I think you're just a well oiled machine and and that's why the kids are so productive and so the teams are so good so coach how did the whole trip with Mary persons come up I'm a big fan of that program it's always been a really good one big fan of the coach but tell us sort of how that game last week came about yeah so we as a program like to do what we call a travel game every three to four years so we're very close to the Washington state border so every year we'll go down and do a spring scrimmage or open up our season our non- region Play Down in Washington state but we want to travel every three to four years ideally so we went down to California in 2011 and 2017 we've played in Texas in 2014 Co did put a Hal to that so about a year and a half ago we decided hey you know what let's pick somewhere a little bit different so we could have gone to California again uh our other coach has some contacts in Illinois but we really could pointed Georgia as a really cool opportunity just because it's such a good football state um it's a top four football state but after playing against very persons we probably think it's top two um and uh yeah it was just in the works we exchanged emails with Coach Nelson um couple couple texts back and forth and then we both really decided that this would be a really cool opportunity for our kids to come down to the South and for them to host the Canadian School speaking of your team actually stayed a week after the game against Mary person so what were you guys up to what were some things that your team did for the whole week when you were down here yeah so we D on Tuesday night um that first and I was really just put some granola bars in them and then have our first practice of the evening uh with a dinner afterwards but on the Wednesday we went down to the Civil Rights Museum in downtown Atlanta and then the next hey coach that's a pretty incredible place isn't it it is very unique and so for our kids like we don't have that type of History here so it's a good educational piece for our kids to go and experience that and just learn about different cultures and and you know obviously the South has a much different history than the Pacific Northwest and Canada in general so yeah that that place was really cool and then we coach hey real Coach real quickly on the on the Civil Rights Museum did you get a chance to sit at the lunch counter would put your hands on the on the counter that was electrified yes we did so that was probably the Highlight for the entire team to be honest just to to be able to hear that right with the microphones on your head and um I know some of our kids got a little bit emotional in that moment right so um again that was all just part of the experience which is really really cool correct yeah coach what do you think your team's gonna be able to take away from just that experience because it is a little more than football being at a historic Stadium like that making that big trip just coming back to your expectations this season well I mean for us married persons to be honest is probably the best program that we've ever played um even dating back to you know back when our program resurrected in 2003 um we've had some really good programs and teams up here in BC then you couple in the California schools we played the Texas schools we played um top to bottom I think that roster was the best and that team was the best that we played so like we just played the best team that we've played all year and then for us now that we're here it's like hey that this is now the standard that we want to play at you know we have to play FAS off the ball we have to play with more physicality we have to be more assertive in our assignments and so just taking that and bringing it up here you know we think it's going to carry over for the rest of the year coach you guys were also at the College Football Hall of Fame so tell us a little bit about that experience as well oh it was so cool so for for our players to just see like the tradition and the pentry of college football um you know there for us were big a lot of us are big Oregon Ducks or Washington Huskies fan myself included and then you know to see all the other programs right and um see the history of Army and Navy and to see the history of um some of the Southeastern schools that we might not watch as directly so just seeing all that stuff and plus the interactive piece that they've kind of added now with the College Football Hall of Fame um yeah again that was just very special and unique because we don't have that kind of History college football wise up here in Canada well coach we want to thank you for coming on uh we know you had a good time at very person coach Nelson a lot of good things about you so coach we appreciate it okay thank you for having me I appreciate you guys yeah interesting peace guys I appreciate that that was that was really interesting well we want to thank everybody for joining today uh we've got our game coming up Friday night Cartersville at Calhoun that game will start at 8 on the P Treet Sports Network tomorrow we'll be right back here at noon
