now time for wfr sports after beating Western Illinois 54-4 on Saturday it's hard to imagine week one going any better for the Huskies and now their first year starting quarterback is being recognized for his work in the win with Ethan Hampton taking Mac player of the week honors the start of his first season as the starting quarterback Hampton came out firing with five touchdowns and over 300 yds passing against Western he threw just two incompletions in the game the Elber native went 18 for 20 and set an NIU single game record for passing efficiency and he ranked third in the country by ESPN's quarterback rating find only Penn State and Alabama's QBs so not a bad day at the office for Hampton here's what he had to say about the offense's huge day after the game yeah I mean it was great um but you know that's something that I know we could do you know it's not it doesn't come to a surprise for me or you know for any of these people up here um you know we go against really tough defense one of the best defenses in the Mac every day um you know so when we do that we stress ourselves out in practice like I said I couldn't be prouder of you know what these guys have done um to help me out one I have a lot of great players around me so um you know it's not all me it's it's mainly the other 10 guys around me next up is a much bigger challenge for Hampton and the Huskies going up against Notre Dame on the road
