what's going on YouTube this is sg1 sports and you're watching our college football channel it's time to continue our schedule preview projected record series Iowa State up next let's look back at the schedule from 2023 of course they uh played Iowa in the non-conference every year but they lost to Ohio last season and at that point you really didn't think it was going to be a great season you know they had some players that that were not eligible to play because of of off the field issues and all that and it really felt like at that point I think that IA State again was not going to be very good then they bounced back and beat Oklahoma State a team that uh got a lot better as the season went along as well uh but at that point Iowa State got a big win and that probably saved their season they lost Oklahoma after that but they were able to get wins over TCU Cincinnati Baylor BYU and even beat Kansas State so wind up having a really solid season seven and five in the regular season and we look at the 2024 schedule of course with the new Big 12 the new teams coming in in Texas and Oklahoma leaving you look at their non-conference schedule they play North Dakota and Arkansas State and then they'll play at I Iowa um Arkansas State's not a bad group of five team but of course Iowa will be their tough challenge there in the non-conference and then you look at the home schedule again those two non-conference games Baylor UCF Texas Tech Cincinnati and Kansas State I tell you what uh they've got a real shot to go undefeated at home this year Baylor a very winnable game UCF winnable game Texas Tech winnable game should be pretty big favor favorites over at Cincinnati and then they beat Kansas State last year so uh yeah I I I think there's a chance they could run the table at home and that would give them seven wins right there then you look at the road schedule at Iowa at Houston at West Virginia at Kansas and at Utah uh Houston probably the most likely win out of those four games the other three or or out of those five games the other four are going to be really tough uh but you know this schedule is going to give Iowa State a chance to have a pretty good season let's go week by week they'll start with North Dakota week one then it's on the road at Iowa on September 9th or September 7th I should say Arkansas State the next week on the 21st at Houston on the 28th then Baylor on October 5th and then on the road at West Virginia on October the 12th and we missed the bye there so they their first bye comes after Iowa so it's a really early bye again every team of course has two by weeks this season and then so after UCF they get their second bye then they'll play Texas Tech on November 2nd and they'll play five weeks in November they after that game uh you got five straight games again in November at Kansas on the 9th Cincinnati on the 16th at Utah on the 23rd and they'll close things out with Kansas State on November 30th so all in all you look at this schedule you know there's no back-to-back Road games there's you know there's no real tough tough stretches Utah and Kansas State at the end those two back toback will be pretty tough but overall again this this schedule is is pretty balanced and works out pretty well for Iowa State uh they don't have to play Oklahoma State who I think might actually be the best team in the Big 12 the more I look at them the more I like what I see uh they don't play Arizona who could be another one of the top teams of the Big 12 but let's get to the projections now and these are the projections from last season of course they went seven and five our projection had them at just 5- seven I predicted them to go six- six Athlon had at six and six and the over under was at 5 and a half so they definitely exceeded expectations if they had not had the players that that ran into trouble in the off season I might actually would have put them at 7 and5 but uh that did kind of cuz early on this is the team that I talked about as maybe being a surprise team maybe being a Darkhorse in the Big 12 but losing your starting quarterback you know I didn't feel as confident about them uh did have them get to six and six but not quite s and five so let's go to the projections this year and again you've seen the scale that we use if you watch our other videos we'll start with you know one easy win I think North Dakota is an easy win really don't see them having any problems there I'm going to put Arkansas state in the blue again this is a pretty good team out of group of five level um Iowa State though playing at home it's not a guarantee remember they lost Ohio last season so they could lose this game but I feel pretty confident and I think they're going to be you know 16 17 point favorites maybe in that game playing at home obviously will help and then you look at the rest of their schedule uh you've got one game where I think they're going to be a slight favorite that's Cincinnati I think they'll be about a touchdown favorite in that game uh maybe not much more than that uh I do have Iowa State in a tier above Cincinnati plus HomeField advantage that's why we get that game in the purple and then uh you look at a couple of games where they could be actually three games where they could be underdogs West Virginia Kansas and Utah I have those three teams in a tier above Iowa State plus all of them are on the road so we talked about the schedule you know that let's just say they're not going to win those games anyways it's kind of good that they play them on the road although if you get them at home you'd have a better chance and I think if you had all three of those games at home they'd probably win at least one of them U but those three games are going to be tough those will be the toughest games on this schedule and we're going to say they'll be about a touchdown Underdog in those three games so that's going to leave really the rest of the schedule as 50/50 games Iowa Houston Baylor UCF Texas Tech and Kansas State um you know Kansas state will be tough but they get that one at home if we were going with our normal rules our normal normal formula Iowa would actually be in the yellow but just because of the Rivalry and because that game's always close that's why I put that one as a 50/50 game but when we average it all out it you know the projection is pretty good for Iowa State and again I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that their schedule sets up really well they're actually projected to go seven and five so a little bit better than last season um six- six last year s and five this year is the projection we'll see if they can pull that off I think they have a real shot uh again if they lose to West Virginia Kansas and Utah who else are they going to lose to Iowa maybe on the road obviously that'll be tough rivalry game that's four losses but Houston Baylor UCF Texas Tech Kansas State I think they can win all but one of those and get to 7 to5 maybe even do better than that so again this is a schedule that sets up really well for Iowa State and they have a chance to maybe even be a contender in the Big 12 I think they're at least a dark horse and again projected to go seven and five your thoughts on this team your projections let me know what you think about Iowa State down in the comments below
