the news on CJ Toby is with us with interchange and it's not morning well you're usually not night with us you've brought a special guest with you who did this is Andrew Alan fantastic singer-songwriter that I have known for years now luckily for me from where are you from no one from the west coast yeah from the west coast allow it will allow a sheet you we flew him in that's right Andrew Ellen's a big thing in this country yes he's got five top ten hits that's right in his lifetime so far my lifetime to come I appreciate she's a young man I like this very much it's good Thursday all right oh yeah yeah yeah yeah some call it great some call it good okay I'm into that I didn't know I didn't know it had a name that's uh well it's been typically known as the busiest bar night of the year some are saying that's maybe slipped a little bit okay fantastic it's a good it's a good night yeah let's talk about you first um face the night yes your new single yes when did it come out I can't modak about a month ago and no it did not get pushed to radio so if anybody was like oh why don't I hear it on the radio yeah that's not any radio stations fault I never sent it to any radio station there was kind of a a little darker of a song for me kind of an I wrote it and I was kind of in a moment where I literally went into my studio and thought I gotta get this off my chest wrote the song in about 45 minutes tracked it and then I send it to my publisher in New York and he's like you gotta get this thing out there I'm like well I don't think it's like a single single he's like the world just needs to hear not okay so distributions on YouTube and other but it's true it's it's not a typical Andrew Allen song no usually my stuff's pretty bouncy and happy and just it sounds like I'm smiling while I'm singing it whereas this one was a little a little darker can you give us like 15 seconds of bouncy happy and 15 seconds of like yes okay I could do that okay this would be the tip of my shop very well so this would be like the bouncy happy this is one of the singles that came out years ago for me and now I say hey hey baby how's your day I'll say crazy Debbie the bouncy happy yes and then face the night was a little more like life is like crowd in California never know how long it's gonna stay well we all making plans about tomorrow tomorrow knows it'll never be today and that's about exploring your range because you don't want to be pigeonholed correct the truth you know and true to yourself yeah I you know I I'm one of the lucky musicians that gets to write for other people as well and that's a really nice outlet for me so if I'm like oh man I'm feeling this really fun country jam about whiskey then I can write it and then you know hopefully write it with some country artist and just get to explore all those avenues we have just met but my sense Maya is that your good friend here is pretty darn grounded so grounded it's ridiculous you should like the humanitarian work that he does like he just it's insane I gotta come here more often you tell us about some of that humanitarian worry that we don't know enough about and and having been in radio a really long time I think Canadian artists are generally speaking way more grounded because you gotta be in the smaller outlets the smaller bars you got to be connected to the community and clearly that's something that resonates with you yeah you know a big part about being a touring Canadian artist I think is also the distance that you have to travel between cities and so we actually went to Medicine Hat Alberta years and years ago ran into a bit of trouble with where we were staying and thankfully this woman who was this other guy's mom was like oh they can come and stay with us it was like 4:00 in the morning like I'm like in a band and this wonderful lady is letting a stator house and then sort of you know go four years forward and I found out that her and her husband started an organization in Ethiopia that provides after-school programs for the most at-risk youth in the area and so they invited me to come with them one time and I thought I'm not a doctor no I don't know what I'm supposed to do and they're like we want you to write a song teach it to all the after-school programs and on the last day you're there we're gonna perform it in a concert I said well is that gonna do for them they said what is gonna do is show them that if we work on something together we can actually do it language man it was incredible it was a wonderful wonderful experience and so yeah forever love them and saying that you're universal you are not only doing the Andrew Allen thing you are now doing via Barcelona that's right totally Universal it's true it's very Universal so yeah like you said like kind of trying out different ranges I went through a phase where I did a folk duo which is really fun one of the songs ended up being the folders commercial that you've seen for the last three years which is very funny and then I thought I want to do something really fun where I can get up on stage and just have a blast and so I started a project called via Barcelona which is basically Paul Simon's Graceland in 2019 if you could pigeonhole it to one thing so it's very African inspired super world music influenced and but still very poppy and it's so much fun yeah it's so much fun we have a blast doing it so Maya where can we find your friend tonight in where can you find Andrew tonight at saffron's restaurant on Corden it's the 29th anniversary so we're throwing a big party which is why we flew Andrew in he has decided to grace our stage well it's $30 for a ticket which gets you the live performance which is intimate it's close it's personal and then you get buffet tapas and a glass of bubbly included in the ticket price and I have the feeling there's a hockey game on - there will be a hockey game on we will be wearing our white and andrew is going to perform in the second intermission so you won't miss any of the game that's right and also after the game of course stop before the third intermission that's right it's free vendor how about a whiteout song a whiteout song oh you got some time to write you said you wrote a song in 45 minutes that's true the pressures on but for now play us out to break your man which one should I be doing on this one sooner sooner yeah I know this guy he's crazy for his girl and he say she's everything his whole head but I know they got something deep inside cuz he's got nothin to hide and his guys said she left so easiiy and she cry Maya thank you so very much 5:45 on 680 cjo be the news on CJ Opie the line [Music] no testosterone [Applause] [Music]
