Indiana's 21,000 realtors, the neighbors you know, the experts you can count on. >> Well two of southern Indiana's biggest names are collaborating on a Hoosier centric product designed to delight whiskey fans everywhere. Around Indiana reporter Mary-Rachel Redman joins us now with more. >> Well Gerry, earlier this week myself and the chief photographer Clint Erbacher made a trip down to South to Nashville Indiana to see what all the hype surrounding the Mellencamp Whiskey and Hard Truth Distilling partnerships all about. And what we found two young entrepreneurs and a seasoned whiskey maker creating a product founded in their shared Hoosier roots to benefit Indiana farmers. One might call it a match made in Hoosier oven born in a small town. >> HUD and I grew up in a small town together, we've always had a deep connection with our roots here. >> I'm an Indiana boy, I grew up in the sticks. >> Hud Mellencamp, son of yes that John Mellencamp, and his buddy Lee Hudson had an idea. >> We've been whiskey guys long before we probably should've been. Whenever we came together and were having conversations about starting up whiskey business, we wanted to look towards keeping it very local, working with local farmers. >> We were sitting around and like who can we start talking to around town? We would like to start locally and work our way out. >> We approached multiple companies to work with and we found Hard Truth, made the connection that Brian and Hud and Aisha all lived within a mile of each other during our youth. $$TRANSMIT's Big Mac that Brian is Brian Smith, master to distiller at Hard Truth. >> They told us what we were doing, their initiatives, they want to stick to their Hoosier roots, they mentor they were just saying it. >> My idea was saying can we just buy some of your whiskey and slap a label on it and try this out, and they said we can do a bit more than that. >> I laid down some whiskey three and half years ago to celebrate our farming partners to someday release and hopefully give back to the Indiana family farmers. I know I had this whiskey and I thought, we can maybe do something here. >> And thus harvest ride was born. >> I'm going to try it, cheers guys, to Indiana, right? >> To our farmers. >> To our farmers. Cheers! That's delicious. Even without a chaser, which is not normal for me. I can drink that straight, that's pretty good. >> It is, for being a 53% alcohol which is the proof whiskey it is, it's very tranquil. >> So what did HUD's dad think? >> He doesn't drink much, but he says this is the one thing he can drink. >> They will be for unique whiskeys and four unique labels featuring art from Jon and once each of these whiskeys gets released to the market in all 22 states we are in, and it gets sold, that whiskey won't ever be back.
