Jordan Montgomery's Comments [Music] so this one stood out quite a bit Jordan Montgomery making a lot of noise with just a you know little line talking to Media including Boston media about his experience with the Red Sox because he was like yeah had ass assume with them thought it went well but whatever it didn't happen and then mixed in this quote obviously Boris kind of butchered it so I'm just trying to move on from the offseason and just forget it and then you know Blake Snell was also asked about those comments and said it's sad that he thinks that way you know kind of Defending Boris who he's still reped by Monti ditched Boris pretty quickly after that whole situation and went over to another representation he's with waserman now so anyway add this all up I will say I've gotten quite a few texts I owe some texts back to some people that were heated on both sides of this argument so where do you stand here everyone everyone has to understand the agent works for you and I don't know the situation Alman I don't know if there was offers that he was given or not given and I don't know Blake snow situation we had him on here remember and we said was the Yankees thing true he said no he was not given that offer it wasn't even close to that offer so all you can do unless you represent Boras and Agent Advice yourself which I do not recommend as a player but is go off what your agent tells you so if your agent doesn't if you don't have any offers and this is the best your agent can do you got to go with him now Monty switched agent so he made the decision he made Blake Snell stayed with Scott Boris Scott Boris got a lot of money for a lot of people I also know people that Scott Boris told not to take Deals they got hurt and never played so you can find that with any agent right so this is so hard so one of the things I used to always tell my agent who was a smaller guy I would say he would come to me and say all right you know you're a free agent what do you think and I'm like my first choice is this I want to stay in Chicago right and then he' do everything in his power and they were and then after 2012 they're like we're not bringing you back and you're like okay now go find another place bring me the offers right and for these guys there wasn't a lot of offers there was like there even when we talked to BL still remember he's like I didn't have anything Tommy fam I didn't have anything right kikk Hernandez I didn't have anything so Boris I'm sure was calling guys every day Boris has a massive team of dudes guys and girls The Lack of Interest in Josh Hader call him keep going too Josh hater I had he he basically got one offer from what yeah I gathered from hater and you know his rep who's been on this show since because he kind of retired from that world Jeff Barry so I mean yeah it was it was guys who are vets on oneyear deals and it was guys who end up with larger deals who were still saying there was almost no interest and no real offers so Katz where do you stand here on his situation and also the way that he just kind of spoke about it even though it was said in passing and you know Monty it does lay him out and that is like a perfect quote that people take and make it super viral so where do you stand here I stand with the fact that no matter if you're my situation AJ's situation Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery their situation free agency is your free agency and what AJ said about your agent works for you he does you also have a choice of how involved you want to be do you want to hear everything do you want to hear from your agent every single day or do you just say which a lot of guys do call me when you hear something because if that's the case they didn't hear anything and Blake Snell talked about the Yankees offer never happened we don't know if it did or it The Role of Agents in Contract Negotiations didn't we didn't hear a rebuttal from the Yankees side of it but you also have to understand that you have for Monty's side you have Boris as your agent and we've had countless people in here that said teams don't want to offer Boris until the last minute because then he takes their offer and shops it around I think teams are trying to fight against Boris and to me I think that's unfair I think you had a guy who just won a World Series and led his team to a World Series Championship I think teams need to go after them I think teams need to not try to fight against Boris and beat Boris they need to go and get the best players and so I think when you are signed on with Boris you're looking for the top dollar teams know that Boris knows that and you know that and this is how the landscape is so did he screw it up I don't think he screwed it up I think you were in that you were in that bed there you had you made your bed you were like I'm going with Boris he's going to get me the top dollar it didn't work out I've spoken to players with a variety of reps that have said they feel like in the past they didn't get all the info they needed when they talked to a team afterward and I'm like it's hard to completely understand Freddy Freeman remember his whole thing with case was it Casey closed yeah he had that whole deal where he with the Braves he said he didn't get certain emails that Alex anthopolos said he sent so I you just never know that that's the thing because you can only go off what your agent tells you now unless you're going to go out and call teams on your own but then you're then why do you need an agent while you paying them that gets messy right that gets bad because then you're negotiating with teams and it can get ugly right but so you can only do what you're what your agent tells you because if you don't know you don't know what's out there so if you only hear like cuz I know guys like I would call my agent and say all right I don't want to hear anything till get an offer and then you'd be in like December and you're like oh I haven't heard from you and he's like we don't have anything and you're like wait what I'm coming off a great year and I don't have an offer in December you know and then it's always like well they're waiting on this guy and this guy and this guy and you're like that guy shouldn't affect me this guy shouldn't affect me but you just don't know you just don't know where teams are at what they're doing and the only and your only Trusting your Agent's Priorities conduit is your agent right to those teams so if you don't trust your agent and you don't believe your agent has the best for your personal because also what you have to remember too is if you go with these big agencies like Scott Boris has a lot of players who's a bigger priority for Scott Boris the guy who's going to make 500 million or the veteran guy that might make 2 million sure you have to know where you stand with you you have to know your pecking order yeah right that's why I think the guys that signed early this offseason were smart the Lance Lynn Kyle Gibson Sunny gray obviously show but those guys were smart oh I got a offer in a place I I'm okay with now I might get a million dollars better later but I might not I'm gonna take that one boom I want to be in St Louis let's go done this might not be the best example but I think you look at Yamamoto getting three I mean it was essentially 375 because they had to pay the posting fee and you're Blake Snell and you're like I've got two sa Youngs I'm still pretty young I'm in my Prime like doesn't matter it's different it's a different game based on age do you think though there is I mean I don't know if you'd call this collusion but if if own or baseball as a whole is like hey we've we want to battle back against Boris like you can't do that that's a problem you personally are going to have relationships with agents where you get along with some you don't get as along with others right like that's naturally going to happen some owners will sit down and have lunch with an agent and some owners are like yeah I don't really want to work with him he screwed me over on a past deal that stuff's real that happens all the time when I was with the white sock they would be like we will not draft or sign a Boris client period they just said they were like we will not do it and we didn't we never did it and Boris had some of the best players they were like we won't do it well that is crazy you're hurting yourself listen I'm not saying that but it's it that's just the like you just said though you remember Boris used to call like Mike illich when he was alive and be like hey I got Prince Fielder you want to sign him and he be like yeah you call Lerner hey Lerner I goty Moreno R Maro that's the way it works yeah but I listen I think with Jordan Montgomery listen Jordan Montgomery has right to his opinion he left Blake snow likes him Blake snow staying with him right that's why you can leave come and go do you guys remember stepen matz too when that whole thing happened with the Mets and The Curious Off Season then he ended up signing with the Cardinals do you guys remember that it was because like Steve Cohen spoke about it I think you guys remember that I I'll I'll bring it up maybe we'll talk about in the off season but you know that to me that also accentuates how I'm pretty sure he wasn't a Boris guy I got a double check but th this stuff happens in other places they also represent a ton of players it's usually bigname players it's going to stand out you know so th this off season was weird that just most likely he might actually yeah based on the year unless something changes in the next month and a half it actually gives him a little bit of Lifeboat he's going to make 20 plus million dollars next year to try and kind of get himself back on track with a normal offseason and spring training and the whole deal that's not bad versus a one-year pillow contract they've kind of added to those
