IR right welcome in welcome back folks to a 10 ways Notre Dames offense and Mikey Den Brock can protect the Notre Dame offense from its own offensive line against Texas A&M to put together a good enough offense to move the ball score and win addition of always Irish sh as always you can find a program on YouTube do it subscribe if you haven't yet appreciate it very much give the video a thumbs Illustrated Google Sports Illustrated Notre Dame Notre Dame news whatever it is it'll come up we got all sorts of Articles we're averaging way above 10 pieces a day we got you covered every different direction thanks to everybody who's who's been over there and also don't forget about patreon.com Irish it's the former Captain he the leading tackler Mike wiby and myself breaking it all down by the pay wall thanks everybody who's there as well building momentum over there getting close to the season it's great to see stay tuned many new features coming this year all right let's take a few minutes and discuss where I think this is all at here's what I'm really really struggling with you know I'm always I always try and be honest with you guys about what I'm thinking and what I'm feeling and don't pull any punches and I don't sugarcoat things I I tell you where I'm at and why you may disagree or whatever but you're going to know exactly where I'm coming from and why on this show at all times here's where I'm at I'm incredibly frustrated that o lineu the thing we brag about we meaning the Notre Dame media the Notre Dame fans Notre Dame self whenever it's draft time and another Notre Dame offensive alignment go we're old line you we're old line you we're old line you I'm extremely frustrated that the thing we brag about the most around this program is the thing everybody's saying May ruin the entire year and make us lose game one and then everything falls apart and it's going to ruin what this team could be and we're screwed I am openly openly logically and emotionally struggling with this situation like I'm being as open about this as I can I am openly emotionally and mentally struggling to navigate making both of those things make sense in my brain it's so ironic to me you know the wide receiver thing is still wait and see for me but I do think they're going to be better it's just a matter it's not a matter of if they're going to be better it's a matter of are they going to be better enough that it gets you where you need to go those are two different things can we all get on the same page with that looking at the depth and the bodies in that room and the skill sets I'm confident they're going to be a better group that's not the measurement though are they better enough to the point where it's a winning unit and not a losing unit I don't have the answer to that wait and see but there's some ultimate Notre Dame misery irony in the concept of what we're known about on the plus side the most could be the reason we lose our first game and ruin the whole year how am I supposed to make that make sense in my brain like I'm I'm asking I'm struggling with it as a Notre Dame person how do you make sense of those things at the same time o line you o line you oh what's the your biggest worry about week one o line you letting you down and ruining the year I'm struggling man to me you either got to be oine you all the time or none of the time you can't just sometimes you are and sometimes you're not so that's where I'm starting from here very conflict very frustrated trying to navigate this so let's move this forward a lot of people are saying we're gonna have undersized young guys there there's all this research I guess uh h on blue and gold did the research if you only have this amount of starts as in Old Line it's going to be bad for you the research shows or whatever fine what I'm not going to do is sit here and say this is just a guarantee it's going to go bad ruin the year we can't the offense can't do anything the offensive Line's gonna hold them back we're screwed blah blah blah blah I'm not doing that I'm not g to just act like we have this problem and it's a guarantee to knock you off your plan for the year and screw everything up I refuse to accept that so couple things here one is whatever offensive line line line up they run out there could end up being better play better than we think and it isn't the end of the world and you could get by with it and it isn't an absolute horror show so I'm open to that that we play the young guys and they actually Aang tough enough that you could still get some things done offensively that's one option I don't know how likely it is against the A&M defensive front and Nick scouton or whatever I don't know but it's an option on the table that they can Le hang in there and it isn't awful and you're not getting Riley Leonard crushed every play but here's number two I've come up with 10 different things Mike denrock could do for this offense to help balance out this problem some of these 10 are not very exciting but I came up with 10 different things he could do to try and solve this let's go over it don't forget to check out the merchandise the L L is in the description you can browse and carouse all the different always Irish gear make sure you head over there and get something for the next tailgate thanks for being here number one this ain't no rocket science maybe you should run some of your plays more skewed to the right side of the line like I'm not saying I'm Lombardy from the grave over here redoing like offensive football some of these are not going to be exciting maybe you need to run certain plays where it's more imperative the blocking is all better to the right side rather than the left if you're going to have instability at tackle and maybe guard too maybe run more of the bulkier plays with the blockings that critical to the success of the play on the right side number two slide Extra Protection post Snap to the left and or chip and I understand nobody likes the idea of bringing extra help of a a tight end or running back over to help block because you want that guy out there available to catch pass or whatever I understand that frustration but you got to do what you got to do to not get your quarterback crushed so if that means you have one less receiving Target in a back or a tight end because you have to chip you got to chip I don't love it it's not ideal it is not what I wanted this offense to become but if you have to do that to keep your dude upright you might have to do it and it may not be every game but if it's for this game you might just have to live that way what's better you refusing to chip because you want to have all your weapons out there and and you and then Riley Leonard's running game like I you just might have to say I hate this but we have to give up a receiving Target to Chip and protect our guy you just might have to make that deal number three run the ball right up the gut if you're giving up that pressure off the edges and they're crashing off the edges power run the ball up the middle that negates right away whatever they're trying to do off those edges power run it up the middle and if you succeed at all they're going to have to adapt number four Slants quick Slants over the middle you got to explain this to me Mr Mrs Notre Dame fan explain this to me I feel like for the bulk of my Notre Dame viewing life that I can remember I see teams that I know do not have Notre Dame's Talent on the offens side of the ball at all effectively running Slants across the middle of the field all game just you snap the ball and a a wide receiver is crossing the middle of the field and the quarterback hits it to him in stride and off and off he goes why is that never seemed to be a part of Notre Dame's game plan ever throughout the years to run these quick Slants you get the ball out fast it negates offensive line issues and defensive line pressure here's what else I like about a quick slant over the middle theoretically shouldn't the offensive guy always have the leverage because you're sling over the middle in between a zone or whatever or if you have a man guy like the defense has to react to what the offense is doing if you have inside Leverage on a slant it's not that hard of a pass to complete and that wide receiver coming across should have that leverage I have never understood why I see other teams run like clockwork all game sometimes the guy gets tackled for a six-yard gain in the middle of the field by a linebacker right there other times there's a block or you beat a guy and there's a lot more run after the catch available from that SL down the field I don't understand why this has not been more of a part of Notre Dame's game maybe it needs to become good way to offset pressure similarly screens not lazy boring screens where it's obvious it's C see there's the way there's the way Notre Dame's been doing these things and then there's the right way to do these things in those are different things not a screen where by the way the play is formulated and sets up it's obvious it's a screen not a screen where you want it to be a screen but there's no blocking involved so it's a throw and a tackle no a proper screen with proper veiling of what you're doing pre- snap proper blocking to scheme this up right and then you're throwing a tunnel screen or a slip screen or whatever version you want to do and you have the appropriate spacing and blocking there to make it work that's another way to offset some of this pressure from a&f dump offs to running backs with a block that's another way to do it different than a screen but you know what I'm picturing like maybe a back stays in like they're going to block and that's all they're doing and then they leak out and you could dump it off to Jeremiah Love and he's Off to the Races and God forbid there's one block on the outside now you're cooking with flames people how about a little of that action how about this number seven have lonard move that pocket and be on the Move often naked boots boots with full clothing I don't know what you need to do but do something to roll that guy away from wherever that pressure's coming from this ain't Jack con snap it and then you have the Statue of Liberty back there melted into his boots into the ground not able to move move that pocket away from wherever that pressure's coming from to buy Leonard more time to run it or throw it number eight Miss Direction Place Another really really good way to offset some of that pressure misdirection and then you burn them on their aggressiveness get creative with it Den Brock how about building in a lot of rpos with the quarterback plays where now I don't want Leonard doing this against Northern Illinois because you don't need to to beat Northern Illinois I don't want to expose Riley Leonard to hits he doesn't need for teams were going to beat anyways A&M you got to sell all out that's different than the game plan I'm going with for Northern Illinois at home set up a bunch of plays for Riley Leonard to keep it or throw it but when he has it and he's on the move the defense must freeze because they're not sure which it's going to be that's another way to offset some of this stuff and out about number 10 Go Up Tempo not out of control to a point where it throws us off but go just Up Tempo enough that it takes them out of their defensive Rhythm and slows that pass rush or that motor in the pass rush down a little bit because you're going too fast for them to catch their breath trying to come at you full speed every play okay I just gave you guys 10 very reasonable things Notre Dames offense could do I'm sick of sitting here crying over the old line what are we going to do it's not where we want it to be it is not where we want it to be and I'm accepting that with frustration and now I'm looking for Solutions rather than just [ __ ] about it run more plays to the side you feel good about slide and Chip protection run up the middle Slants screens dump offs to The Backs more of a roll out on pass plays so the guys moveing misdirection plays quarterback rpos Go Up Tempo you're giv Mikey Brock $2.1 million I am a dummy in my basement with no coaching experience for X's and O's and I just came up with 10 ways to be able to beat a good defensive line if I could figure out these workarounds from my basement I fully expect Notre Dame's offensive staff Gino guli Den Brock whoever's involved here Rudolph whatever figure it out figure it out you do not have to be perfect week one you just have to be good enough to win get it done Can't Get Enough unfiltered Notre Dame football talk be sure to go over to patreon.com Irish former Captain Mike gouby and myself do that screw it oh never anything it's been 30 years
