Alabama's Deontae Lawson on Alabama's 63-0 win over WKU: 'I wanted to make sure they didn't score'

tonight like for you getting a shut out game one yeah um that was a great feeling uh that's once we got up that's what I wanted to keep I wanted to make sure they didn't score and you know when the young guys got in there they they made plays they flew around and I'm happy we're able to hold him to zero is that kind of a message for you as a captain and you steing that LE guys that's hold on definitely uh I kept telling them they're not scoring U uh kayen Jones he he was all in on that one um he made sure they didn't and you know uh it was it was a good sight to see they didn't they didn't really move the ball that much either you know that that just shows how how well they've been preparing throughout the week and you know just happy we was able to get the shut out you feel about just you know finally playing a game in this new defense just the execution and everything yeah uh I think I think the execution was pretty good uh it's it's still to be we got to clean up obviously but you know for the most part I feel like we we did our job we flew we flew to the ball we tackled pretty well and you know the result sh yeah there's a a lot of dudes that got rotated in just I feel like at every level was that part of the plan or was that just you know just the way the game went yeah that's I guess that's just how how the game went I mean uh we do it at practice um cuz we got guys that's ready and you know that's that's great have first legs out there and show them tonight yeah kayin deor pregame speech like yeah uh same old kin theor coach theor um yeah he he got us he got us a little hype just talked about execute uh just doing your job and just playing for the guys in the locker room and you know we were already ready at that point so you know he just added to the fire talk about the Verity of the linebacker room especially with your up all over yeah we got man me me Jihad and and and Justin Jefferson uh yeah we like three-headed monster I say uh you got Jad that can play on the edge and rush and you know Justin Jefferson come in we have three linebackers to play and you know we're all just we just getting better uh just going to get better keep getting better week by week and you know excited is there anything that stands out as far as like what you would like to improve on for tonight um I would say just just execution I mean we executed pretty well but like I said it's always going to be things we can clean up and you know once we watch the tape and we really see what we what we messed up on it'll it'll be easier to you know identify that how much the KE interception kind of set the tone for the defense oh yeah oh yeah that was huge uh happy for him he got two and you know that's that's what this defense is about uh players making plays Keon he made two two great interceptions in you know happy for hey de how can you just speak about what it means just to pit shut out this the first shut up that Alabama has pitched in their opening since 2022 you just talk about what that means from defensive standpoint yeah uh it means a lot it means everything uh that's what we play for and you know once we once we got to that point we we was just making sure that you know everyone stay locked in no one let up and you know that's that's that was our goal
