ready play [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] oh W remain 6 76 76 46 64 [Music] hey everyone V here from Talking tennis let's talk about Dan Evans defeating Karen HOV in a first round match at the US Open 5 hours and 35 minutes how about that that's a US Open Record surpassing 5 hours and 26 minutes in the 1992 US Open semi-finals between Michael Chang and Stephan edberg but this mored this match as well I mean the first three sets were incredibly physical uh Evans had five set points in the first set and three before the tie break two in the tie break itself where he led 6'4 and HOV comes back and wins that set and he HOV then sered for the second set didn't get it got broken back Evans won it in a tie break HOV also had a set point in the third set didn't get it Evans came back when won that in a tie break so you have now uh Evans going into the fourth set with two sets to one lead 67767 6 3 hours and 30 minutes this is brutal physically and you also have the context of Evans being a really historically difficult match up for heran leading the head to head 40 um and in this match it was actually the Russian who was getting the better of longer exchanges in sets four and five because he just had too much from the back of the Court his sheer power his pace of shot uh also the advantage that he had on on just getting some Freer free points on the serve with the body serve and uh you know just more muscle and more weight of shot particularly shoulder height height so Evans really had to get Super Creative because his legs were going out on him and he found himself down L 4 1540 in danger of getting Bagel in the fifth and he lost the fourth set already 6'4 so now it's you know it's pretty uh pretty imperative for for Evans to dig deeper than he ever had he showed tremendous amount of grit determination resolve used the backhand SCE amazingly well you know got the ball below Karen's knees where he's not as comfortable and he was able to make his way forward Ser in Vol toon a key stat from the 48 out of 71 points1 at the net so really really awesome stuff this is a guy who put his life who put his career on the line 184 in the world and he played the Olympics when he could have defended his DC title but chose not to so congratulations to Evans he's moving on to the second [Music] round if you enjoyed this video make sure you hit that like button don't forget to subscribe and click that notification Bell so you don't miss out on all things tennis
