California Wildfires: Update Sept. 10, 2024

Now to California's wildfire find we have new numbers on the Boyles fire in the town of Clear Lake and the Davis fire burning in Nevada near Lake Tahoe causing more destruction tonight. Take a look, more than 400 personnel are working to control the 5000 acre fire. There is no containment. The Boyles fire is 51% contained as several fire engines continue operations. Meanwhile southern California continues to be impacted by several major wildfires. The bridge airport fire or without containment as crews are making progress in the firefight tonight. And just moments ago, Governor Gavin Newsom announced he has secured federal assistance to fight the bridge in airport fire. So Monica, this cooler weather has been a nice break from the heat but the winds are not helping. That is right. Winds can be really problematic for firefighters and we're still seeing a bit of growth on the Davis fire despite the fact, we haven't seen too much in the way of acreage building over the past four hours. But now we have that component of the wind no longer the heat elevating that fire danger, this red flag warning all about those dry gusty winds and low relative humidity, not only a red flag warning but a particularly dangerous situation being issued by the National Weather Service in Reno because of the potential for rapid fire growth in the next 24 hours. Now, that time frame for that event will be 11 o'clock in the morning until eight o'clock in the evening. On Wednesday. All eyes on the huge fire risk east of the Crest Lake Wind advisory in effect for the Tahoe Basin locally. We still have those onshore winds. So temperatures tonight are going to be actually quite cool, about five to almost 15 degrees cooler than last night dropping into the sixties. And eventually we'll get into the fifties with a few low clouds to start us off. Highs will stay in the eighties, but we'll be tracking not only the fire danger but also a chance for rain in the forecast.
