Overanalyzing Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Part 4

death the sound effects that 3PO is adding makes this little scene so great but this is overanalyzing Star Wars so I got to ask how does 3PO have recordings of these specific sound effects like he has an effect of Vader's breathing Tie fighters and even a lightsaber igniting did he just download these off iTunes or something can someone log onto the hollow net and download Darth Vader breathing sound effects also I find it strange that 3PO a protocol Droid would save sound effects in his system I'm chuckling right now because this might be the worst nitpick in this series so far yesu I was just coming to that Toto go this moment here follows another Trope I've noticed before often times later in a series of some sort there will be a recap episode or a recap moment where the characters briefly reflect on the events of the series but the characters only ever reflect on the stuff that happened in this show or movie so in this instance 3PO was recapping A New Hope to the Ewoks then he started talking about the 8S and The Empire Strikes Back that makes sense to us but in Universe A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back take place three years apart there is a whole comic series of all the adventures and battles the main crew was a part of so for us the viewers this makes sense but in Universe it's weird that 3PO casually skipped 3 years of events when summarizing the story to the Ewoks now that might be even more nitpicky than my previous comment this maybe 15-minute stretch of Return of the Jedi is probably the only time in the Original Trilogy Where I find the pacing to be poor keep in mind the rebels are on a mission right now they're on an imperial occupied planet and they need to take down the shield generator you could make the point that the rebels all coordinated when the takedown of The Shield generator would happen and right now they need to wait a full day so might as well just take it slow fair enough but right now do the other Rebels know where Luke Han and Leia are last time they saw Leia she disappeared and now Luke and Han disappeared did one of them report back saying we're all right we're just chilling with some teddy bears wonderful we are now a part of the tribe that's all it took to become a part of the tribe for the tribe to listen to your War Stories that's a pretty easy initiation ritual do you remember your mother your real mother there is one extra line of dialogue here that adds a lot of backstory to lay and connects well to the prequels Leia says do you remember your mother but then clarifies your real mother at no point in the trilogy was it mentioned that Leia was adopted since Leia's father was mentioned in a new hope they do need to do a bit of retconning by Luke saying your real mother the implication is that Leia's mother and father are her adopted parents or I guess fake parents for lack of a better word including the father that was mentioned in A New Hope if this one little line wasn't added then a big plot hole arises from Leia's father being mentioned in A New Hope and then this movie making Vader Leia's father she was very beautiful kind but sad yeah the prequels made this a plot hole considering Padme died right after Leia was born you could chalk this up to some Force thing Leia felt her mother and that feeling always stuck with her I guess fair enough but I kind of like the idea that Leia was around her real mother for a time where she was clearly sad about what happened with Darth Vader of course we know Padme died during childbirth but when this movie was made I'm sure Lucas had a different story in mind he's my father someone could try to make this a plot Hole by asking why Luke waited all this time to tell Leia that Vader was his father but I don't think it's a plot hole at all a year has passed between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi I'm sure Luke and Leia spent a lot of time together during that year but I'm also sure Luke knows Leia's feelings about Vader how he tortured her captured her and captured Han this would be a hard thing to tell someone even someone you trust 100% just because there are people in my life I trust with my life that doesn't mean it's always easy to tell them things so I like that Luke waited some time before he told Leia you have that power too in time you'll learn to use it as I have in time you will learn to use it as I have I love the little training scene that was briefly shown in the rise of Skywalker because it's the only time Leia's Force training was followed up on that and Leia flying back to the ship in the last should I which was certainly a choice somehow I've always known I love this response from Leia somehow deep down she knew some may say this is weird Force [ __ ] but I love the concept that people who are strong with the force but don't know it still are able to use it in some way even without proper training it makes the force feel more magical rather than some magic system you must train to be able to use always so I like this moment he won't turn me over to the emperor I can save him I can turn him back to the good side if I'm Leia right now I'm thinking to myself what the [ __ ] are you talking about this is the same guy that captured me captured Han tortured me tortured Han and tried to capture you cut off your hand and plenty of other things that happened off screen and you think there is good in him what makes you believe that Leia should have absolutely said something like that could you tell Luke is that who you could tell jealous Han here is not a great look but I'm more interested in Leia right now I would have liked some acknowledgement from her that Vader is her father because right now I'm not sure if she's upset because Luke left because Vader is her father or mixture of both just a line like Vader is my father would have been a really nice [Music] moment if you look really really closely at Vader here you can see that the top of his helmet actually goes through the bottom of the cockpit of the shuttle he should have had to bend down but he just walked straight through it I've accepted the truth that you were once Anakin Skywalker my father if I was Vader I would ask Luke how he found out that his name was Anakin as far as Vader knows Obi-Wan is dead and he isn't aware that Luke could talk to Obi-Wan as a ghost so who would have told Luke this Galactic wide secret maybe Vader thinks that before Obi-Wan died he told Luke that his father was named Anakin Skywalker he just never said that Anakin became Vader I guess that's somewhat plausible that was why you couldn't destroy me this is interesting so Luke imply here that Vader didn't kill Luke in the previous movie because Vader still has good in him but I don't think that's true Vader didn't kill Luke at any point in the fight because he wanted Luke to join him on the dark side and before Luke had the opportunity to fully close that door of joining the dark side he jumped off the ledge I don't get the vibe in Empire at all that Vader was conflicted about killing Luke so I don't agree with Luke [Music] here I see you have constructed a new lightsaber this is another thing that Vader should be questioning so he says I see you constructed a new lightsaber but from Vader's point of view how would Luke know how to do this again Vader can't think Obi-Wan has been training him since he died in A New Hope and it is clearly evident that between the events of the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi Luke's training improved significantly so how did Luke get so much better we know Luke trained with Yoda but Vader doesn't know Yoda is still around if I was Vader I would ask who trained you and who helped you construct a lightsaber actually now that I think about it how did Luke know how to build a lightsaber he didn't go back to visit Yoda between movies so who taught him did Luke find some secret Jedi Scrolls between the movies Obi-Wan once thought as you do again another line that doesn't really make sense at what point did Obi-Wan ever think Anakin had good in him even during the Obi-Wan show Obi-Wan never tries to turn Anakin back to the light side he apologizes sure but he doesn't make any attempt to turn Vader back so when did Obi-Wan once think this not during Revenge of the Sith either also I want to question what would have happened if Luke's initial plan worked Luke asks Vader to come with him and what if Vader said yes where would they go back to the rebels would Vader help in the fight against the empire would the rebels even accept Vader what was Luke's plan here I feel the conflict within you let go of your hate it is too late for me son I absolutely love the dialogue here Vader says it is too late for me son Vader's lines here just don't sound like someone committed to the dark side of the course compare this to how he spoke to Luke at the end of the previous movie it's too late for me is something someone who is coping would say Vader is coping bad the emperor will show you the true nature of the force you think these Stormtroopers behind Luke are pondering what Luke just said maybe one of them is thinking oh [ __ ] this Rebel is Darth Vader's son that's wild Vader is also kind of stupid for letting Luke get taken by just two Stormtroopers even unarmed Luke could easily escape from these two this isn't going to be hey don't worry chewy and me got into a lot of places more heavily guarded than this you know Han isn't wrong here I would say the spice mines of Castle were more heavily guarded than this hell even the Death Star was more heavily guarded than this I get that this whole thing is a trap to lure the rebels in but am I supposed to believe that this was purposely done by the Stormtroopers to send three of the four guards after an ewok based on what we have seen in this Trilogy I'm led to believe this is just another example of [Music] incompetence there is no way an Ewok would know how to drive one of these Speeders this fast in the forests it's the same thing I said before in the last video I struggle to believe that any non-force user can drive this fast through the trees this [ __ ] is just as hard as the Pod R now I'm supposed to believe an Ewok a creature that has almost certainly never driven a speeder can last more than 10 seconds without Hing a tree [ __ ] hey I promise you that if this scene happened in any of the newer shows or movies people would ridicule this moment till the end of time just imagine if something like this happened in the acolyte I'm not saying I like the acolyte but just imagine if this did happen in that show just imagine also this guy with the white beard in the bottom right is canonically Captain Rex he was retconed into this movie as a rebel this guy's name used to be Nick Sant but it was changed to Captain Rex what did the rebels end up doing with the scout trooper if you look closely in the background here you can see what I assume is a rebel putting on the scout trooper armor and being on the lookout so does that mean they killed the scout trooper if they did why did they bother with the tapping him on the shoulder trick why didn't Han just shoot the scout trooper and take his [Music] armor down to the left of the stairs we should see some doors that lead to Palpatine's secret room that has the Sith wayfinder remember that scene from the rise of Skywalker where Ray enters that secret room in time you will call me master this entire sequence is great and all but how the rule of two ties into this still confuses me the rule of two is very strict hundreds of Sith have existed and betrayed each other but the one thing they always follow is the rule of two if Palpatine is looking forward to completing his training what does that mean for Vader openly recruiting Luke to join the Sith with Vader standing right there is Luke going to be some sort of acolyte wink wink his lightsaber ah yes a Jedi's weapon when Palpatine calls a lightsaber a Jedi's weapon it makes me think that Palpatine is above lightsabers like he is that strong with the force that he doesn't need one I've always liked that idea but then they gave him lightsabers in the prequels anyway an entire Legion of my best troops awakes them remember that folks an entire Legion of Palpatine's best troops are currently defending the shield generator I can't wait to see how skilled his best troops are huh the green screen effects around the people in the doorway up ahead are terrible if you pause it slowly you can see the outlines of the characters adal we have enemy ships in sector 27 it's a he said it there's too many of them and now begin what I still think is the best space battle in the entire franchise it almost all still holds up so great I love this space battle no it is unavoidable it is your destiny I'll be honest I don't really like the way falling to the dark side is framed in this movie at this point in the franchise we have gotten very little detail about what it means for someone to fall to the dark side the way this movie portrays it is that if Luke makes any attack on palpa he will fall but like Luke has fought a lot of people and he didn't turn to the dark side then when he fights Vader later on it makes sense because he was giving into his fear and he was gradually letting his feelings take over but here Luke knows killing the emperor would end the war we're at the point where we are debating the semantics of killing a defenseless man if I ask my bodyguards to kill someone but that person survives and kills me am I defenseless in this situation I don't think I am just because I am physically posing no threat I'm still leading those who are threatening killing Palpatine here is an act of Defense he's defending the rebels so I don't really like that idea here that Luke would automatically fall to the dark side forget all his friends and families and loved ones just because he struck down the Emperor of a tyrannical [Music] regime why are these Imperials taking hostages just kill them all we were told that pretty much the entire Rubble Fleet is here right now and the only reason to keep hostages or prisoners is to interrogate them about where the rebel bases are but if almost all the rebels are here then why bother trying to learn where the rebel bases the Empire wins the war of these Imperials just kill the rebels hello I say over there were you looking for me props to 3PO people describe him as a coward a lot throughout the series which he kind of is but here he just called out like 100 Imperials and told them to come get him that's bad ass bring those two down here this one imperial yells bring those two down here but three creio is the only one up there R2 is nowhere to be seen in any of these shots remember Guys these are the emperor's best troops fighting right now and losing to a bunch of teddy bears I love how these Imperials both the Stormtroopers and the atss spend a minute fighting the Ewoks but none of them bothered shooting the two leads of the Rebellion who have zero defenses and were standing right in the open the emperor's best troops I swear to you and I know I say this a lot if modern Star Wars had a battle like this people would lose their minds click on the link here to watch over analyzing Star Wars Return of the
