The Chicago Bears dodge Bullet with Rome Odunze Injury

practice up at Hol as they prepare for the Houston Texans on Sunday and abdala last night we got a piece of information as Adam shefer reported late in the afternoon that Roma dun has a sprained MCL and could be considered week to week so we will get an official word from Matt Eber flu tomorrow Wednesday when he meets the media at around noon but week to week I think is the best outcome that we could hope for when you hear that a player that didn't get carded off the field had an MRI scheduled for the day after a game I I think it's the best case scenario no I agree with you I think that it's a uh it's good for him it's good for the team I don't know if he's going to play this weekend you know he's probably going to considered day to day or week to week and I would say he more than likely will miss a game or two and then be ready in a couple weeks but you never know I mean it depends on pain because there's no surgery for this right right so it's going to be about pain management it's going to be about managing the swelling if there is any it's going to be all that and and trying not to reinjure so how much rehab does he need to do to build up enough muscle to not reinjure the uh the MCL there and you kind of hope that you know he comes back sooner rather than later but this is also an opportunity where you now have Keenan Allen you have DJ Moore who they did have last year but now some whether it's Tyler Scott who was inactive last week is he going to be active this week if romad dunesday can't go do you try to use vus Jones a little bit more in the passing game there's going to be a lot of variables that go into it obviously you want all of your guys out there um and against the Texans you're going to need a lot of scoring so it's definitely not good for this week but it's the best case scenario as far as an injury is concerned I think also when you look at the first game for Roman dun it was dis it was disappointing yeah it was not what we were hoping it was not what we were hoping for with anyone on the offensive side of the ball it's always tough with a rookie receiver to expect a big game week one but it does happen we saw guys last year in the first couple weeks really light it up all right T Dell is the the first guy that comes to mind last year is a rookie who was really good one reception 11 yards for Roman dun I would also say he is the player that that saved the day because that one pass that flew off the helmet up in the air he skyed for that to save from being a turnover for Caleb Williams so he was impactful even though he only had the one reception for 11 yards yeah he then on the play fumbled after saving the day as well I I would say this he looks physically imposing he looks way taller and more athletic than DJ Moore or Keenan Allen yeah he's a big boy he's humongous he's a big body and that's like that's why he was able to go up there and use the body control and get that what could have been an interception um that Caleb Williams threw you know late in that game and that's why he's going to be when he's healthy again such an asset for Caleb Williams because he's such a big receiver you saw it at Washington you know he's a big guy that can go up and win 5050 balls he's very fast for his size so he's someone who's going to be an asset like DJ Moore is going to be your number one guy for the foreseeable future but romad dunay now that he's a rookie the injury he's more of your number three receiver with Keenan Allen being your number two where you know as long as this season progresses and he plays well we don't know what Kean Allen's going to be we don't know if he's going to be here next year we don't know how many games he's going to be able to play he's been injured he's in he's guy he's a guy who doesn't play the entire season so hopefully Rome can get healthy soon and be back because it's only a matter of time before Keenan Allen gets hurt at some point and misses a few weeks like I doubt he's gonna have an injury and he was already injured in this game like he left for a few snaps a few minutes of this game and came back out and played well and Matt Eber FW said yesterday there was no concern with him or DJ Moore who also left the game for a little bit of time but with romad dun you want as many refs as possible because he's young and because he's new and you want him to face tough competition and they are facing some very tough competition this week in the Houston Texans I'd say this as we sit here on Tuesday uh week one in the books we saw last night the 49ers put it on the Jets I was uh you know we have the cover five that that we have uh here with the company the app is pretty cool and you can pick five games get the spread and I forgot to make my selections rolling into the week uh so I remembered yesterday and I tried to hope for the best outcome in the one game I had left and I thought to myself because when Christian mcaffrey went out when he was listen in active for the game I thought to myself my logic was well if anything happens in this game it is more likely to be close that that that was my assumption going into the game and so for the cover five I switched my pick from the 49ers to the Jets now if you're unfamiliar this contest is you pick against the spread and the amount that your team your selection wins against the spread is a total point that you put towards one score yeah so in a lot of situations as we roll through the season underdogs who can pull off blowouts are the most valuable piece oh yeah in the cover five because you're getting the points to begin with and then if they can they can win by some margin that's a lot of points yeah and then of course sanan Francisco shows up and rolls the Jets without their star offensive player and I was like man I I picked the like I just assumed it would be a closer game so taking the points would have been beneficial and San Francisco the real deal Brock py played really well that defense is outstanding uh Warner is what the best defensive player in football next to um pretty close little watt yeah like it's it's little watt little Watt and it's it's Warner right those are the two best defensive playersall yeah like he was an animal he was he was awesome see I went into the game thinking that regardless of mcaffrey even after he was out who's going to be more ready to play week one is it going to be the 49ers and Brock pie or is it going to be a 40-year-old who hasn't played in a year and a half and I went with the 49ers and Brock pury because I don't care how good the Jets can win the Super Bowl week one yeah is all about reps it's all about how prepared you are it's all about coaching it's all about all that kind of stuff and I trusted Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers and Brock pie way more than Robert Salah and Aaron Rogers to be ready for that football game and it was obvious they weren't yeah like San Francisco was ready they're ready to try and get to a Super Bowl and win the Super Bowl this time there's no doubt that that's the caliber of team that they have in San Francisco the New York Jets though I'm shocked at how much they struggled offensively they had that one good drive with what was it 12 plays capped off with the running touchdown up the middle uh Aaron Rogers looked pretty good and then they just kind of did nothing through most of the second quarter into the third and that was that it's reps man it's all like you can script everything you want to and practice and you can practice everything you want to but the fact that Aaron Rogers didn't play it all in the preseason played Four snaps last year so he's gone on a year and a half of not playing actual football because you have last year's off season you have the year before that's off season you have the entire year that he missed so like you have to play like that's when they said that Aaron Rogers wasn't going to play at all during the preseason I was pretty surprised because I would have thought that a guy at that age knowing that he hasn't played football in so long would want reps and look you can get the ball out fast and he's great at that he's great at scrambling he's great at all that kind of stuff you can scheme him so he doesn't get hit in the preseason you know like the Bears did with Caleb Williams right yeah I agree with that there's no reason why he shouldn't have played a few Series in the preseason just to get the feel of the game and to get the reps with your players because you're not going to be able to replicate real game situations in practices and even honestly in some joint practices like you got to get out there and play and it was obvious that they weren't ready to go out there and play Aron Rogers went 13 for 21 167 yards one touchdown one interception he backed once quarterback rating of 82.8 I feel like it was a major piece of conversation in the Sunday night game with the Lions and the Rams is uh too kept pointing out that neither quarterback played in the preseason GF or Stafford it didn't bother Stafford at all Stafford was playing great football G seemed like a little off seemed a little off even though their offense was playing well and they eventually won the game he seemed a little off I don't know with Aaron Rogers like is this something where you look 13 for 21 167 one touchdown one interception say Aaron Rogers is toast no no no no by no means because like here's what I kept thinking about last night watching Aaron roggers Aaron roders to me even though coming back from the Achilles injury and not playing in the preseason looked way better more comfortable than Kurt cousins did with the Falcons yeah I've I've watched six different cut-ups of highlights and foot movement and all this stuff from Kurt Cousins in the last 24 hours there's a lot of it out there online from Falcons fans and and quarterback gurus and the fact that like Kurt Cousins is not moving the way he used to move in the pocket even down to the way he's standing for the snap he used to have a a one foot in front of the other he used to have his right foot in front of the left foot waiting for the snap in the shotgun now he's standing with both together and it seems as if his footwork is all off well takes an extra second you have to move your feet around differently set to throw differently you know Kirk Cousins and his success with Minnesota was mainly using the play action pass to his benefit and what they were showing is that they did none none of that in the Falcons offense and they were playing him out of the pistol which is not something he's ever done before for he looked he looked like he's still dealing with an injury where Aaron Rogers looked like older but he looked like he could still play no I I would have way more confidence in the Jets figuring it out than Atlanta figuring it out like they look like a mess yeah and now the only reason I I've been thinking about Atlanta is Atlanta's going to be a team that the Bears are going to have to deal with for that wild card spot a lot of people picked them to win that division in the South yeah I took the Bucks it's one week we'll see how it kind of shakes out with the the NFC South either way bucks or Falcons they're going to be in the conversation for the wild card and I would be really concerned if I was a Falcons fan today yeah absolutely I picked them to win the division I think that you know you need to uh look at what Kurt Cousins is doing I was more concerned last night with the difference between it wasn't really on Aaron Rogers right like I don't think that the reason they lost the game is Aaron Rogers not being ready or or not like you say like we just did it he's he didn't look ready to play solah didn't have them ready to play is that defense the 49ers found out because I watched George KD on with Van Pelt after the game yeah and he was talking about what do you do when you find out that mcaffrey is not playing when he's easily one of the most important offensive players in the game right and he was like well we can't run all the crazy routes that he does we just go weak side or strong side we just mostly go just weak side and then run that and that's all they did they ran the crap out of the football and Pie played well py was good yeah but when you take away one of the most dynamic if not the most dynamic offensive weapon in in the NFL outside of a quarterback and you still put up that many points against a top three defense in the NFL like they don't have the defensive line that they did last year and obviously Hassan reck is still holding out and not going to the facility and all that kind of stuff but this is supposed to be one of the the best defenses in the NFL and they ran all over them yesterday and that that goes to a thought that we had yesterday about the Bears game I think the most disappointing thing from Sunday's game against Tennessee was how bad the Bears offensive line looked because the 49ers last night just gave you the blueprint on how to get around having your allor running back there still Maul up front and run the football yeah and the Bears offensive line could not push forward they couldn't pass protect either they had a really bad game against Tennessee AB that to me and after all the conversation that we've had uh if Ryan poles is doing enough bringing in new bodies with the depth is Nate Davis uh ready to go this season oh he's not practicing this day during camp Oh there's something else going on oh this guys's injured this that and the other all of that stuff that we talked about with the offensive line and for them to come out and look like that in week one it's so disappointing because there's teams with good offensive lines we had this conversation on this podcast like a month ago and I said the 49ers have a good offensive line and then people are like nerd people nerd stat people are like actually they're the 24th best offense of line it's like did you not watch last last night yeah they kicked the [ __ ] out of the Jets well not only that uh one of one of their best the best offensive lineman in football just showed up two days before yeah trp will play is no doubt top five player in the league yeah top five player in the league showed up two days before the game was like I'm ready let's go that dude mauls guys like he is awesome well and it's going to be a huge point this week because and we'll get into more of a preview of the Texans uh later on but like you can't count on and I know the Bears defense is great they played great on Sunday right it was Will Levis and the titans this is not CJ strout well throw that into the throw it into the bucket for all those talking that that the Bears defense didn't do anything last year all of those people who wanted to run through the list of the backups that the Bears beat at the end of last season you will Levis has proven nothing no but my point is that you can the offense can't keep going three and out the way that they did on Sunday yeah because CJ stad will tear them apart like event it might not happen early it might not happen till the third or the fourth quarter but if early in the season if you're out there every three and out every whatever like it's different if you if you score a pick six right and you get like momentum adrenaline is out there you guys like you've got the crowd like you're going on the road you need this offense to run the ball effectively and keep the ball out of CJ strout's hands you have to otherwise they are going to pick you apart CJ strout has proven and I again you know saying all right I want to see it again for a year in the first game pick it up right where he left off one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and you have to keep the ball out of his hands they have a good defense they have a good offense there's a reason the Bears are a six and a half Point Underdog there's a reason Vegas usually knows I'm probably going to pick the Bears to cover not going to pick them to win because I didn't pick them to win the beginning of the season and nothing I saw in uh from either team led me to believe that I'm going to change my prediction but I do think that this defense can keep them in the game and I think it can be closer than NFL let's take a look early lines for week two oh my God it's early speaking of early we take an early Peak at the NFL line after evaluating millions of pieces of data in the blank of an eye the gambletron 2000 says the runner hey hey hey hey man aren't you a little bit early early lines with black and ab Dolla you need to know the winner and I know the winner on ESN 1000 all right Thursday Night Football the bills are on the road against against the Dolphins both teams won their opener last weekend Miami is the favorite by two and a half points they were down big against Jacksonville they came back to win that game Miami Buffalo this is a really good early season match up two teams that a lot of people are expecting to make the playoffs some people have the bills being a Super Bowl team still uh two and a half at home for the Dolphins short week for the first Thursday night game I then that's my point in this is that it's short week it's week to your body's not used to the uh the toll of football yet it's the first week of getting hit and all that kind of stuff the bumps and the bruises the soreness I think I'm going to go with the home team if you're at home it's hard to go against the home team on Thursday Night Football so I think especially at two and a half right now I like the Dolphins at two and a half I would also add in there you mentioned the short week uh the team at home it's also Miami in September hot it's a night game but still hot it's a night game but the temperature is going to be 87 de yeah on Thursday in Miami so even though it'll be at night it's still going to be significantly warmer in Miami than say in Buffalo right now even though it's still summer you always hear about those teams later in the season in October they're up in the north who then travel to Miami and it's still warm weather uh but yeah so that maybe that comes into play as far far as the health and Recovery in the short week but dolphins and bills that's the Thursday night game Saints and Cowboys this is interesting both teams with big wins in week one this will be a noon kick on Fox Dallas is the favorite by six and a half points I don't know what to do with this one because I don't want to overreact either way like overreacting to the Saints would be like oh the Saints are going to keep this close they're going to cover this this feels like a game the Cowboys should win by a touchdown because it's six and a half I think I'm going to go with I'll tell you right now Cowboys are going to be in a teaser right now the Cowboys are definitely going to be in a teaser yeah the way I'm looking at this at this moment is what I tend to think about a lot in week two of the NFL is forget what you saw in week one and go back to what you thought these teams would be before the season started yeah before the season started I think we would all guess that this line would be around six and a half and as the Cowboys as the favorite so like I would play I wouldn't take anything I saw from New Orleans against a pathetic Panthers team and apply it as if that's going to take place in week two I I I agree with you at the moment I would lean Cowboys yeah as well I would guess that might be a lot of people's Survivor pick this week yeah I can see that the Cowboys I think are one of the better teams in the league that's risky I mean you can't always just pick the team that faces the Panthers but that feels like a good a good thing to do it could be that that could be the way to go for quite some time we'll get to that game but that's that's an interesting situation so uh we continue on early lines Tampa Bay on the road at Detroit this is a noon kick on Fox Detroit is the favorite right now by seven points I'm surprised by that that's a lot of points it is a lot of points considering they had to go to overtime against the Rams I'm not saying so when we were talking about wildcard teams before the season and wanting the Bears to be in that mix the teams that we mentioned were the Rams the Bucks the Seahawks right I think that the Bucks are still good I don't think that they're seven points worse than the Lions so I think the Bucks are going to cover this yeah I'm with you that that's my early my early although you go back to the divisional round last year bucks on the road in Detroit and the Lions won that game 3123 so they would they would have covered that by a point by one point I'll take I'll take the I agree with you I think the seven points is a lot because um the way my brain works with this stuff is Tampa Bay I agree with you should be a playoff team or in the conversation to be a playoff team and their quarterback is healthy yeah that's a lot of points to give a team that should be in the playoffs with their healthy quarterback seven points a lot of points yeah Colts and Packers the Colts are the favorite by three on the road in Lambo this is a noon kick on Fox so the Packers are the home Underdog getting three points against the Colts Jordan love will not be playing in this contest for Green Bay I mean the obvious choice for the Rubes will be to take the Colts right yes no Jordan love you've got Malik Willis is garbage quarterback this is going to be uh plus Richardson looked good Richardson looked amazing in his first game I'm not touching this game I would not touch this game I would not bet this game I can't bet this game who's the backup for the Packers Malik Willis okay yeah and he didn't play at all in the preseason right isn't that is that what uh Tim told us or I don't think so our Packers our best friend who's a Packers fan he would be telling us to pound the Colts I am not going to pound the Colts yeah that's tough if it gets below three or two and a half if it's three or two and a half consider it not a three and a half no but it's three right now three okay okay I'm looking at three and a half on FanDuel and so I would say uh stay away I've got the uh company man lines here from ESPN bet look at you right here on espn.com uh Jets on the road at the Titans the Jets are a favorite by three and a half points on the road in Nashville CBS has the game at noon Jets and Titans both teams start 0 and one to get the season started we just saw Tennesse and last night we talked about the Jets that's a lot of points to be favored by on the road I don't I think a Tennessee team with a a pretty stout offensive and defensive lines to get three and a half points that's pretty good well let me let me ask you this question right what's more likely to get right will Levis or Aaron Rodgers and the Jets defense is it possible that Aaron Rogers and and the the Jets offense gets right well def I think the defense I think Aaron roggers gets right and and their defense gets right against will Levis because I would say that the Jets defense on paper is better than the Bears defense they didn't play like it obviously but they also played the 49ers yeah they played the like the best team in the NFC this is a good line yeah it's a Well set line yes because I'm T why Vegas is good at this no I know it's really good I'm feeling if I had to go away before I I if I had to make a bet today before we got to Sunday I would take the points with the team with the solid line play at home that's what I would do I'm the I would not overreact to what I saw and I would take the J well I don't feel like that's an overreaction I think that's see no I'm not I'm not saying it is I think that's seeing a team that's pretty decent that choked away a game in the fourth quarter that's now at home in week two getting points your reasoning is not overreacting but I think that the Rubes would say well Aaron Rogers didn't look great the defense was trash the Titans are at home I'm gonna take the Titans like your reasoning is correct and other reasoning is wrong think you don't think the Jets are going to be the public play here I think the Jets will be the public play I points is what I'm seeing right now that's that's a lot of points on the road although I don't think Minnesota's that good if there's any team that won last week that I don't think is as good as their everything they're traveling across the country they care they got a big win at home against the Raiders line last week yep chargers chargers I don't care I don't care if it's the sharpest play I don't care if you tell me the biggest whale in Vegas put all of his money on the Panthers I can't do it yeah I think the Panthers are going to be the team that everyone can kind of beat up on it'll be just obvious picks where the Giants I think you have there there might be a chance that they're like comperable yeah they're a comparable football club they're they're not a playoff team but they're a team that plays tough games I think that's possible I don't think that's possible with Carolina no and boy not doing it that could Bryce young looks really bad yeah he does he's great at Alabama which is weird because like if we go back a couple years ago when we were looking forward to the draft and and players coming out of the draft like you and I we both thought that CJ Stout and Bryce young would both be good we we weren't like sold on one and out on the other although I do recall us having many conversations about the size of Bryce young being a concern yeah I didn't expect him to look this small I I mean aama he had a lot of bad at balls just because of his height he he fixed his arm angle so he throws it over people better like it's it's just not I don't know if it's a bad quarterback or just a bad situation everything that's going on there we could be overreacting to one game but that was a bad game man really bad game the Browns and the Jaguars they play noon CBS uh Jacksonville is a favorite by three at home for that matchup and the Browns looked really bad uh Jacksonville choked away a game at the end against Miami a good team and the Browns got their ass kicked Yeah by maybe one of the better teams in the league in Dallas this might be a prime spot for don't overreact on what you saw last week and maybe does Shawn Watson isn't as bad as we think question man I don't know he's not good I don't think he's good I think he's got he's got too much going on he's got too much going there's too many outside things happening now especially with a new lawsuit is their defense that bad though from what we saw last week against Dallas maybe they might be they might be that bad I don't think they are but I don't know I'm not betting it I'm not gonna bet this game I'll tell you that right now it's certainly a game that I I don't know what either team is yeah I don't know either team uh Raven uh Raiders and Ravens this is another noon kick a lot of in week two I think that the Raiders could respond uh and keep this tight you know they do have the mshu mshu magic late in games this smells like a backd door cover this smells like you know it's a lot of points they're up 10 and they're just like okay we'll we'll play you know prevent defense they we know they need a field goal and a touchdown to score to to tie the game so they get into field goal range they you know Force the three and out they get the field goal because you know obviously you need 10 points and then they try to onside kick they fail and then the Ravens just kneel the game out yeah I agree with you a lot of points uh with a team with their starting quarterback even though he's not good starting quarterback they have their starting quarterback uh so we'll see with that one as the week goes if if it goes over 10 like I'm absolutely playing Las Vegas situation all right 305 Fox Rams at Cardinals both teams are on and one hang into this game the Cardinals are favorite by two points is what I'm seeing right now that's surprising to me I think the Rams are a good team I think the Rams win this game I think that might be one of my better plays of the weekend is I think the Rams just win this game I think that they like there's nothing that I saw week one that would lead me to believe that they can't win this football game I don't think the Cardinals are that great uh of a team I think the Rams are better better coaching better quarterback better weapons I know uh pukaa is not going to be out there but I still think they can win that game even without ncua 325 CBS talk about a flimsy favorite the Steelers are on the road as a three-point favorite against the Denver Broncos man in Denver with Justin Fields as your quarterback if there's a matchup
