[BREAKING] Chiefs WR Marquise Brown (shoulder) won't play in Week 1 versus Ravens - Adam Schefter

we've got breaking news out of the NFL where Kansas city wide receiver Maris Hollywood Brown is not expected to play in Thursday night season opener against the Baltimore Ravens Brown has been dealing with a shoulder injury since the chief's first preseason game he was one of the team's big offseason acquisitions as they try to give Patrick Mahomes more weapons in the wide receiver room along with first- round draft picked Xavier worthy here's more on Brown status from Chiefs head coach Andy Reid yeah I don't think you'll have Hollywood this week so yeah Hollywood won't be back this week and we'll just see how it goes but that kid is amazing I mean his progress has been incredible so next to S NFL analyst Ryan Wilson for more on this Ryan first your reaction here Chiefs go out get them a wide receiver a Maris a marquee wide receiver in a Hollywood Brown and here he is not able to make the first game against the team that drafted him the Ravens your reaction uh Jeremy unless Patrick Mahomes changed his name to Maris Hollywood Brown I think the Chiefs are going to be okay uh they knew with the shoulder injury that Maris was going to be out for a little bit so this isn't a huge surprise they also recently signed Juju Smith Shuster who had played for them previously and you talked about drafting Xavier worthy the first round pick out of Texas with this 4-2 speed I think the bigger concern not so much is Hollywood brown but it's the return of uh what they have in rashed rice because there was some concern that he might be suspended that has yet to take place so he will be there in week one against the Ravens and that's a huge development because last year when you looked at the numbers at the end of the season Jeremy Rashid rice was number two among all rookie wide receivers in receptions in yards and third and touchdowns and he was only behind in two of those categories some guy named puka noua so that tells you how important he was and his yards after the catch ability was among the best among all wide receivers last year so to have him out there even if Hollywood brown brown is going to be banged up for for several weeks and we don't know how long it's going to be I think that's a a great development for the Chiefs because after they face the Ravens they fac the Bengals both games will be in Kansas City so that's the good news maybe Hollywood's back for week two we don't know yet uh but all told George K will be there Patrick Mahomes will be there and we know Andy Reid will be there so those are good starts for that Chief's offense yeah uh for brown no full seasons's played since 2021 as he's kind of dealt with injuries the last two seasons of course he spent with the Arizona Cardinals but how big of a blow is this for Hollywood Brown given that he signed a one-year deal has had a couple of Seasons where he hasn't necessarily been and a marquee guy yeah we were talking about this before he came on air Jeremy the the best years for Hollywood were his first two seasons when he was draft in the first round by the Ravens uh had an up and down Seasons with uh with the Cardinals and not entirely his fault but the good news is whether you show up in week one or week five or six when you're healthy Patrick Mahomes will be throwing you the football if you find ways to get open uh I think that's the good news in terms of no need to rush Hollywood Brown out there we know what he brings in terms of straight line speed and ability to run away from Defenders and you can guarantee that Andy Reid has plans to use him in that manner but there's also reasons they drafted 42 Xavier worthy because he's able to win down the field uh they have Justin Watson he's going to play a big role early on we talked about Jus Smith Schuster so even though Hollywood Brown's not going to be out there against the Ravens in week one that doesn't mean he can't have a big gear and get a big payday at the end of the year if he's able to stay healthy because that's going to be the big concern staying healthy he's he's undersized by wide receiver standards uh but if he's able to get open Patrick Mahomes will certainly find him the football and then I think a lot of those passes will end in huge gains and potentially even touchdowns yeah Brown penin is wide receiver to Juju Smith Shuster also on that line and you mentioned Justin Watson so do you expect a committee approach in terms of wide receiver to here until Brown is 100% cleared yeah Jeremy I think you can argue that this wide receiver group when when Brown is eventually healthy is better than the one that won the Super Bowl last year when it was a wide receiver by committee and oh by the way we have Travis Kelce as well I think that's going to continue to to be their game plan and they keep stockpiling tight ends by the way Jeremy they drafted Jerry Wy they traded for for hinder shot recently from the Cowboys so they have a plan to tight end in a post Travis Kelce world too perhaps we see some of that transition happen in the coming weeks and even over the course of the Season uh about how the different ways they can use their eligibles to to get Guys open and let Patrick Mahomes do his thing so I'm not concerned at all uh I wish Maris Brown uh all the health in the world and gets back to 100% as soon as possible but in the meantime Jeremy I feel like the Chiefs are going to be okay offensively yeah you and I were discussing before unless it's Patrick Mahomes or Andy Reid I think the Chiefs are going to be fine they are the defending Super Bowl champions NFL analyst Ryan Wilson joining us with our Haley Sutton gave his reaction to the iuk signing why was it so important to get him back in San Francisco on your roster um I think the important thing is that Brandon is a fantastic football player so he makes everyone's lives easier in the building because of the plays that he can make and the way that he works and the examples that he sets uh you know when he's out there on the football field um and also I just like auk as a Vibe uh he's a good friend of mine I've played with him since 2020 um and you know when you're on the field and you do a bunch of you know fun stuff together you go through challenging times together that's how you build these really cool awesome relationships with guys and the fact I've gotten to play with auk for Four Seasons I just want to keep that one going and so I'm really excited that uh he's going to be a Niner again and he got the money that he really really deserved because you know as a guy who gets less than you know how many targets did he get last year like probably like 30 less than like than probably CD lamb and AJ Brown and stuff but he still puts up similar numbers and it's just really fun to be with a guy who is that efficient with the football in his hands yeah I I I you got to shoot us straight here though because everyone saw the viral video of him dapping up Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch is that really how they when they see each other that's how they react um they will now yeah I don't know about that um I I was like the great thing is I was sitting there on Twitter because I like being on Twitter I like you know it's fun um just to see like the conversation sometimes and just like the conspiracy theories of like what people thought was going to the conversations that were actually happening I enjoyed reading those a lot so I don't know what that really was but at the end of the day like three weeks after that happened look at us now we're all happy kind of I think everyone's happy when you're getting paid so I'm excited for you guys to get that core and keep the core together haly Sutton's conversation with George KD part of our Spotlight Cummings as you get ready to draft that fantasy football team for 2024 so gentlemen start with Brandon iuk there was perhaps some trepidation from drafters due to the contract situation at least those who were drafting ahead of this weekend Jam how did the situation affect his ADP coming into the weekend and what's the approach now that he signed no Jeremy I think it actually helped his ADP because prior to uh all this drama you know where it was maybe a trade and you know hold in and what was going on he was being drafted close to round two and to me that was always too expensive you know this is a guy and and George KD hit on this he doesn't get the amount of targets that the elite wide receivers gets he's just so efficient and so dominant in this offense in this system it's such a benefit and he is a very good wide receiver and kind of what we were hoping for if he was going to get traded was going to be to to send him to a place where he was going to be 1340 Target guy he had 105 targets last year he's been on Pace for under 115 targets each the last two seasons so I think he's a round four pick at the earliest I love him I want to get him on my fantasy team but I don't want to reach for him so his ADP has fallen into round four I think that's perfect for him but again I don't think he should be drafted in the first two rounds and even round three was a little bit too rich for me seven or more games or seven games pardon me with 100 more yards uh last season on the emergency podcast Fantasy Football Today podcast you guys did after this was done uh Dave and Adam did they would you rather with auk and a few other guys so let me ask you guys Heath I want to start with you auk or Malik neighbors oh you're asking the wrong guy that question because I think I'm the low guy on Malik neighbors the only guy who doesn't have him ranked in round two or round three I agree with what Jamie said about Brandon iuk in round four I would also draft Brandon iuk over
