all right just about ready for baseball and towing the slab Gavin Stone how about a scouting report on him well he's been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it's the release point maybe it's the motion just some way somehow they've got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side the pitch Kyle schwarber at the plate now that's ball one next offering upstairs on the corner for a stride [Music] swing and a miss it's two and two righty delivers swing and a miss for the strike out chase the fast up the ladder for strike three Trey Turner at the [Applause] plate that catches the corner [Applause] one down base is empty hacks and misses it's a strike out well anytime you can punch out the top two guys in a lineup to start an inning got to be feeling pretty good out there on the mound because when you think of just having a distraction table Setters on the face paths and all of a sudden you're dealing with the number three hitter any distraction can cause you to serve up a cookie and instead of it being a solo shot it's a two or three run Homer Bryce Harper stands in now and watches strike [Applause] one two out Bas is empty [Applause] [Music] [Applause] got him strikes out the side to begin the game what a start down quickly go the Phillies the Dodgers coming up and we are scoreless you're watching Major League Baseball on the show back here at Chavez Ravine starting on the mound in this one Tyler Phillips well it hasn't been a great year so far in terms of ER but he's had some decent game some flashes of greatness if you will we'll see today if he's able to get ahead of hitters and perhaps get some swings and misses put himself in a position to bring that erra down because you know in the back of his mind be this looks like extra PES makes the turn and heads for second and he's got a lead off double well clearly he was ready to hit right there nice line drive to P side met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the Outfield and up to the plate is Will Smith and that one fouled [Applause] off man it's second strike two oh two [Applause] swing and a miss that one in the dirt in time and a drop third strike leads to the first out well done behind the dish Freddy Freeman up to the dish the first Freddy Freeman and the first pitch misses for ball one pretty smart not to serve something up for him right there he's really good at hitting the first pitch Runner takes off for third line to left and foul [Applause] ball left hand batter Waits and a foul [Applause] ball rander kick deals battling here as he fouls it [Music] [Applause] away stays alive also really good at that what I like about this guy his Bat stays in the zone for a long time gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches on the ground and that chance handled fires over to First and Freeman is retired here to Oscar Hernandez first pitch doesn't find the [Applause] Zone facee hit and a run comes in puts a run on the board and picks up up in RBI I don't know how he was able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it that pitch was inside and he had it get really deep so pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good work on it in the air out towards Right Center casos makes the grab on the run but the RBI single pushes across a run it's an early one- nothing lead you're watching Major League Baseball on the show new inning getting started and now Alec B the line of the pitch Stone 25 years old and he was a fifth round pick in 2020 righty to the [Applause] plate fouled off he they're down one nothing and we're back bottom of the inning and at the plate for the Dodgers Andy pz Phillips back to work foul ball there and the right-hander deals that one back up the middle and through man aboard on the leadoff single once you get the ball by the pitcher there's a lot of base hits up the middle even on ground balls so a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit now a drag ball Third Base side and that's just [Applause] foul and strike two [Applause] out of line out toward Center March makes the catch and there's one down so digging in Gavin Lux [Applause] that one the other way that's a base hit they get it in quickly so first and second now one out Nick Amed here to hit good Defender he's been inconsistent offensively bounce to the left side bom off balance Fe there's one and that's two no runs all set for the start of the inning now at the plate Austin Hayes off Stone back to work oh he doesn't get the call one [Music] and0 slider for strike 1-1 now that one fouled off that just misses two and two well I think he's trying to get a feel for where that one missed I mean it could have gone either way but he looked a shot for a second there and a swing and a miss and one gone he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious Brandon Marsh steps to the plate he's someone that really beats up on right-handed pitching the lefties however give him a little bit more trouble and that's outside ball [Music] [Applause] one just missed the Dodgers up by a run we're here in the top half of inning number three that one finds the zone and it's two and [Applause] one now highfly ball out to left Center Hernandez ranging after it he's got it that's up number two and here is sosa to the [Applause] plate that's to third on the Run sends it over to First not in time to get him and the Tapper field single Kyle schwarber comes up to hit here swings through that one for strike one pitch misses and it's one and one [Applause] got him sped chase the fast the ladder for strike three so one hit is all they get we head now to the home half of inning number three it's the Dodgers one and the Phillies nothing [Music] and welcome back to the ballpark ready to go for the last half of the inning now it's the Dodger lead off hitter sh oani Off the Mark there and that is ball one [Music] [Applause] and he deals swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left Center makes the catch and there's one gone that's just a really nice catch on the run right there he saved extra bases for sure if the pitcher his friend he'll give him a second to catch his breath before he's ready to deal the next pitch and that one is lifted in the air reaching for it makes the catch that's a tough play for the infielder ranging back into the Outfield there's part of them that's saying hey you outf call me out he stayed focused and made a nice catch right there Freeman hits it in the air hay makes the grab and that's the third out back here at Dodger Stadium here's treay [Applause] Turner as he turns on the Rubber and with that good live arm delivers bun to 10 but that goes foul you know these Phils just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game so many of their out have come from weak contact on pitches they're chasing outside of the strike zone you can't do much of anything with those locations and that's been true again today kicks and fires right through there for a strike and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that Strike Zone and Beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand [Applause] next offering upstairs this to third Hernandez fires across the diamond and they get Turner for the out Bryce Harper to the pl believe we talk about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher's hand the way it comes out out of his hand as an infielder wow really impressive just missed definitely a swing and Miss slider down and in he finished that really well just couldn't get him to offer at it next pitch is downstairs two count great hitter at the dish if you're going to miss You' got to miss outside the zone you miss inside the strike zone you'll be asking the Umpire for a new baseball just missed [Applause] next offering is in for a strike B longer for that change up as he fouls that fast ball back foul ball and it remains a Full Count now he's desperately looking for that swing and Miss he's going to have to just change speeds a little bit try to move it around create just a little bit ofion at the end swing and a miss ad him out front for the strike out by the start to this game on the down looking very dangerous to these hitters seven punch outs already so this lineup hasn't had much success trying to figure him out I'm impressed with what we're seeing here Alec bone stands in for the Phillies ground it out his first time on the ground to the left and it goes just foul and a pitch ground ball left side the throw to first and it's a one two three inning bottom of the fourth now it's the Dodger cleanup hitter teoscar Hernandez wor burner into the outfield for a knock so a man on base to start the inning just so sound in his mechanics hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field Jason Hayward steps to the plate for the Dodgers he's over [Applause] one in the air out to Center Marsh moves under it calls it in and there's one away Andy PES steps to the plate for the Dodgers out towards right center field nice grab on the run two down here's Kik Hernandez oh for one so far right through there for a strike move to First Hernandez Dives back in safely Hernandez the runner at first with two gone run around the move and a foul [Applause] ball here's a rip to short but he's there for the third out one ready now for the fifth inning stepping in JT real mut the wi to the pitch rolled softly but that goes foul well these Phillies they're not going to be happy with the advance they've been having so far just one base runner to this point and it's not exactly early anymore they have guys in this lineup capable of sparking something but it just hasn't happened for him yet fou ball still ow and two [Applause] to the right side steps on first for the out well he's doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution castanos batting for the second time and that's strike [Applause] one the offense needs to start showing some fight against this starter he's doing his thing out there they're going to have to push back at some point and make him work a little bit harder SS through that one it's a strike out oh there's a three pitch strike out he can do whatever he wants with the baseball right [Music] now Austin Hayes will hit next his first hit bat was a strike out outside low ball one Hayes 28 years old and he was a third round pick back in 2016 [Applause] now this offense has just been locked down almost five full Innings of shut out baseball two down no Cs and misses it's a strike out Phillies go down quietly in the inning still behind by a count of one to [Applause] nothing back here [Applause] in La we head to the bottom of the fifth and stepping in is the Speedy Gavin Lux the W the kick the pitch ler snaped it first That Swing right there tells me he's seeing the ball pretty well I know it didn't produce a hit but he made Solid contact and that's all you're looking to do anytime you're at the plate swag and a line drive base hit out of the center field so the one out hit turns the lineup over waste no time there just a cookie down the middle I mean those are the ones you dream about ones in the cage you're just hoping you get in the ball game right down the middle not a whole lot of velocity tags the runner and that's two top six so digging Joe Kelly on the pitch here still a lot of game left and this game could go either way so this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later Innings swing in a Miss nice change up the change up right there just pulled the [Applause] string and [Applause] [Music] ball we chase that time next offering is in for a strike that was absolute gas triple digits on the gun it's just a different experience hold the string of the change up now when you follow up a triple digit fast with a nasty change up pretty much every time the hitter is going to be trouble that was the plan get him to sit dead r on The Fast and then just make him look foolish with the off speed step and digging in for Philadelphia edmundo Sosa first pitch and that's in for a [Applause] [Applause] strike line drive base hit just kind of SL twice that one into Center hitting is really easy for some guys one thing that I can see already his Bat stays in the Zone on plane for an extended period of time and guys like that they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that back being on plane and even when you don't get it great it's still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder the two strike may see some movement over there first base trying to stay out of the double play right [Applause] here just misses and that's ball [Applause] two swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at back Trey Turner with a chance now and there's a breaking ball that drops in there now if he's going to steal second you want him to go early in the count that way he's not a distraction to the hitter at the plate go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch R takes off there's a ball save at second and that was not close well that steal right there is wanting to take advantage of having a really good hitter at the plate now they've got a much better shot at bringing home a two out RBI just miss first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no Panic at all by The Hitter very patient showing good discipline now he's in the driver seat with a 3-1 count gets him to chase after that one as a pitcher you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed a controversial called strike three to end the inning so no runs here in a base hit back here at chz draine John sh with Chris Singleton in the booth and leading off the bottom of the six Will Smith swing and a ground ball out to short in there safely that's a really tough play no matter who you are but I think he has a chance to get him at first if he's just able to get that throw off a little quicker looked like he took one extra step to set himself and get a grip on the ball Here Comes Freddy Freeman up to hit right back to the mound could be an easy two a Turner for one a sensational double play great job on the M Felding his position and making a good throw to second to get the double play started far too often we see pitchers have a hard time with that throw but no issues right there that's good practice paying off in a game and resulting in two big outs and he'll be safe at first with two outs you just want to find a way to keep the line moving for the next guy so an infield single right there does the job nicely done just putting it in play and getting down to first to keep this inning alive you never know what might come next as a result he takes it himself to the bag and that'll and we're back and the batter now Bryce [Applause] Harper so the Dodgers have a new arm on the mound Alex via well you see the ra very solid and that doesn't always tell you the whole story but he's been really good so far this year looking to get the tying run on base just off the Inside [Applause] Edge and a onew and a foul ball he stays alive the one two right side in plenty of time to first Harper retired Alec bow stands in for the Phillies those plays can be tricky they're routine but that doesn't mean it's always going to be smooth he delivered a good play right there one down base is empty swing in a Miss nice change it and now the Lefty popped up Lux gets under it he's there he's got it two away and up to the plate is JT real M lifted in the air out to left brings it in and that is [Applause] that and welcome back to the ballpark and now Andy PES the rander back to work and foul ball well the game plan for this offense has been pretty clear they're being aggressive at the plate but still finding ways to pick their spots oh can't pick it up cleanly and he's going to make it to First and we'll see how they score it pretty muched a lead off base the new pitcher in the game Orion Kirker he's pitching on two days rest here's the third baseman k Hernandez and there's a strike good heater at 98 and you know it's always interesting to see how teams attack the first pitch what's their plan of attack going to be well for this offense in this game they're not waiting [Applause] around swing and a miss struck him out we take a look at the three- pitch sequence here pretty simple in terms of putting away at the pl once you're ahead2 as a pitcher you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect in battle and right there clearly he was in swing mode but all you can do is hope to foul that off Clips a [Applause] corner popped up to the left into foul ground and puts the squeeze on that one and there's two away and now Nick ahed one for two splits the plate strike one there it was oh oh here it is hit it he gets a take gets ahead in count that's inside one one [Music] right through there for a [Applause] strike Line Drive makes the catch inning over so the Dodgers leave one they lead it one nothing back here at Dodger Stadium ready to begin the eighth leading off Nick castanos and the first pitch misses for ball one and that's outside struggled a little bit in this [Applause] one couple of strikeouts earlier but doing a much better job in this bat to get ahead and find a good hit count at two and0 swings and misses and it's two and one a big swing in a Miss set Let The Hitter get his arms extended tied him up a little bit slightly up slightly in and another ball that's a really good take Austin Hayes in the onck circle and swinging a miss one away pretty big strike out right there to start this eighth inning down one any off base runner really makes this inning a bit more interesting but now this offense has the switch from possibly trying to manufacture a run to needing to run into something or just try to screen multiple hits together to get a run across the plate po up hernandz has it sized up he makes the catch and there's two now couple of pitches and a quick out now a move being made for a pinch hitter Bryson stop and this is a big at bat coming boo definitely a little added pressure on him here trying to hold a one-run lead and we're in the top of the eight breaks his Bat and Pops it up Hernandez brings it in for the third out new arm out of the bullpen kobby [Applause] Allard PA's been really good against left-handed hitters wi in the pitch in the air right field castios makes the grab one away next up the Dodgers catcher Will Smith one for three in there at the knees going one stirring in the Phillies Bullpen Jor Marte appears to be getting loose EST stez warming up as well that one is absolutely beled and one hops Off the Wall should be extra bases Smith into second and he's got it double everything came together perfectly for him right there pretty much just a textbook double into the Gap and when you can drop one in there between the outfielders you know you're making the turn at first just an excellent swing Freeman stands in here leaves that one one off the [Applause] inside right through there for a [Applause] strike and that's in there at the knees so far all we've seen in the s fasts look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count [Applause] [Applause] and a gr ball to First and he handles it himself for the out and now tar Hernandez these fans don't like to and the tying run is on with El lead off single went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle he kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock and you'll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole now here is Kyle schwarber a one run lead here at the top of the night a healthy cut tough pitch at 98 but a right-handed reliever and another ball so here we go base runner at first could be running on the pitch he's got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position even if it's a swing and and he picks it up in foul territory if you're a base runner you got to stay dialed in here look for anything in the dirt try your best to get in scoring position and here it comes and that one fouled off pretty good pitch there and take a rip at he wants to get his arms extended he likes the ball away from him a little bit just not able to square it up L Drive calls it in and there's two away they couldn't have asked for a better out that makes a great play line drive and they keep the runner at first just like that they're almost out of the inning so it's their last chance in this one and score and they've TI it's 1-1 now there you go the RBI machine another clutch run Evan Phillips on The Pitch Out of the pen here should be a good first match up for him here he's been doing a great job against right-handed BS so far this season they've had a lot of trouble squaring him up at the belt and fires ball one low one B one strike two down go ahead run and scoring [Applause] position falling behind two and [Applause] one right through there for a strike and down on strikes he goes that ends the inning and they limit the damage back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the Night Carlos Ste he's certainly been one of their better relief pitchers this season the numbers are really solid so they feel great about handing the ball over to [Applause] [Music] you can locate that consistently it's going to be real tall for hitters to square that up that's what you love to see relievers do coming out of that b play Swing and a miss and that strike two well if he's going to do something special right here it's going to have to happen with two strikes Billy fans want a strike out fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two the pitch gets a piece one of those rules in baseball that's tough to explain the logic behind if you're talking to a new fan or someone trying to learn the game it's like wait what the batter struck out but he still gets to be on first base yeah I hear you it's a weird one plus the pitcher gets credit for the strike out it's an over for the batter but of course no out is actually recorded kind of one of those just trust me let's move on situations got him huge strike out there so he needed a strike out there and he got it and now we see how they play it defensively yeah now they can move the middle infielders back a little bit get into double plate Runners on the move but attempt misses now he has nowhere to go he's tagged out and that didn't play out the way they [Applause] hoped next offering is
