[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] this is paloalto California and Stanford Stadium the site for this incredible football game hi everybody I'm Brad nestler and I'm joined by the former quarterback Kirk herb Street and we'll also hear from Aaron Andrews in a bit today's games for presented by spark because better athletes make better football players we've got a good one in store for you between the TCU horn frogs and the Cardinal of Stanford [Applause] and here comes the [Applause] Cardinal for TCU they've got to be at their best just to have a chance to win this one I think this is going to be a good game but yeah I expect a decisive victory in the and for TCU they've got the difficult task of dealing with a very heady linebacker today he'll be keeping tabs on a really good running back today this ought to be a fun chess match and before we head down to the field for the coin toss we'd like to remind you that this game's brought to you by spark because better athletes make better football players we're ready to get this one underway as the team lined up for the opening kick he kicks it off and he got all of that one and it sails out of the end zone for a Touchback I don't know about you but this one feels like it's going to be a great ball game he's tackled at the 21 person foul Mas on the defense first down it's first and 10 ball on their own [Applause] 36 blars it and almost had it intercepted he was that close to making a big play his safety is kicking himself for dropping that one [Applause] runs it and tackled in the back field the blockers tried to sell the misdirection but the defender stayed home and made the play that's the kind of effort a coach likes to see from his defense he's wrapped up for the sack and it seemed like they had no problem getting to the quarterback on that play great call by the defensive coordinator to call the Blitz it left the defensive lineman free to get to the [Applause] quarterback it's fourth down they come out in a punt formation he really got a hold of that one he takes it in at the 14 he makes it out to maybe the 30 ydd line and he was able to pick up some nice yards on the return they'll go to work at the 30 first down 10 to [Applause] go looks to pass they knock it down incomplete there's just so much going on down there in the trenches it's really impressive to see a guy get off his block and perfectly time the quarterback's release Pitch Out Left nowhere to go personal foul face mask from the defense first down from their own 43 yd line it's first down [Applause] and he can't get away from the pressure the offensive line has to at least slow the guy down a little bit he was in there in no time they find themselves in a hole here after that sack it's second and long he drops back he's got to throw it in a hurry he gets hit Out of Bounds at the 44 yd [Applause] line third down and they need to get it inside the 47 and he's brought down at the 27 yd line it definitely put them in better field position and I just have a feeling that they're going to punch it into the End Zone on this [Applause] [Music] drive first down 10 to go ball on the 27 [Applause] Rose it's second and 10 ball on the 27 yd line give to the tailback and he's met in the back field the way the safety was playing up toward the line of scrimmage shows you what they think of the offense's passing game not a lot of respect for [Applause] it look at the throw catches it now it's first and goal as he's knocked out after a nice game perfect timing here between the quarterback and the wide receiver that's a big gain and more than enough for the first down [Applause] we're at Play number nine of this current [Applause] drive a little laundry on the field and we'll find out who's it is the that penalty will move him back a bit yeah with so many young guys out there it's bound to happen occasionally first down and they've got their eyes on that goal line he makes it out to maybe the 16 yd line the halfback picks up a yard 10th play of the drive [Applause] he drops back and he's hit before he can go anywhere a pickup of about three that's a nice completion but give the defense a lot of credit they weren't fooled at all they were able to hold him to a short gain drops back to pass throw and it's no good he's ruled out that would have been a great play if the throw were just a little bit more on target it's fourth down this kick will be from about 30 yds out and he didn't get all of it it falls short so the junior kicker isn't able to put it through still our score Stanford nothing TCU nothing they'll start at the 20 it's first and 10 throws complete and he's hit right away so they get about four yards from [Applause] playaction it's second down six yds to go ball on their own 24 quarterback's going to run it and he's got room to work and they make the stop at the 38 yd line I'm telling you quarterbacks who can run the ball are so hard to stop you have to scheme around them which takes the best coverages out of your defensive playbook we've got a first and 10 ball on the 38 passes to the back in [Applause] complete second down 10 to go ball on the 38 yd line option here they'll wrestle him down in the back field the defensive end was the Victor on that play as he bolted in to tackle him for a loss and he was able to do that because the interior lineman held their ground leaving the runner with no options gives it up the gut there's a flag on the field and I think I have a good feeling of what this might [Applause] be about two yards there on that delayed [Music] handoff fourth down they come out in a punt formation and this one is a beauty little too much leg into that punt they'll bring it out to the [Applause] 20 the offense will start at the 20 yd line first and 10 looks like an option here and there's a penalty on the play let's see who it's on holding only the quarterback decided to pitch it on the option but the back had nowhere to go just a perfect defensive scheme for stopping that they got to the option before it got to them they line up at the 14 second down throws it deep downfield and it's knocked [Applause] down third down and what they didn't want to get in ball on the [Applause] 14 going deep lays it out there it's caught and he's taken down at the 31 yd line he's quickly reached 100 yds through the air well the quarterback is making great reads and he's doing a good job of finding his open [Applause] receiver from the 31 yd line first down [Applause] fires incomplete sometimes when you throw it that hard you can't control the accuracy all that well he'll get it under control though in time he makes it out to maybe the 30 yd line maybe a yard on the Run by the tail back third down and they need to get it to the 21 and it's knocked away these guys were ready for the pass and played it well to come up with the deflection looks like they're going to go for it on fourth down complete but he's wrapped up and he won't get it personal foul face mask from the defense so with that penalty they'll move the chains man that is frustrating for a defense when you think you've made a stop and then a flag gives them a first down this offense has really stalled on their last two trips to the Red Zone he makes it out to maybe the 10 yd line the halfback picks up a yard we're at play number nine of this current Drive second down toss left taken down behind the line well these days you've got safeties playing up close to the line of scrimmage almost like a fourth linebacker the only way that you can keep them from cheating up is to take some chances down field and he rifles it in there for the touchdown [Applause] and he hits the pat so a nine playay 73 yd drive and they get it in for seven so our score seven nothing Stanford to kick sends it sailing downfield and they can forget about returning this one they'll start at the 20 first and 10 here's the pass broken up that's the kind of field Vision you want out of your linebackers they have to play well in coverage and they have to be able to break up pass plays 11 it's third and 10 ball on the 20yd line and he's going to come up with a sack after the sack it's now fourth and long and this one is a beauty gets to about the 44 yd line mask on the [Applause] defense still first down from the 41 yd line first down [Applause] he throws it and it's knocked [Applause] away second down 10 to go ball on the 41 here's an option right side and they'll bring him down behind the line the D lineman wasn't letting anyone buy him that time and the big fella did a heck of a job plugging up the hole where that play was supposed to [Applause] go looking to throw the defender had it and then dropped it yeah the quarterback's breathing a huge sign of relief because he got away with throwing what should have been an interception booming kick and that punt didn't have a chance it's out of the end zone for a [Applause] Touchback they'll start this drive at the 20yd line we've got a first and 10 he makes it out to maybe the 23 yd line Mas from the defense first down from their own 38 yd line first [Applause] down and they got him for a loss the defense was playing run all the way right there and it paid off for him so it's second and 12 ball on the 37 [Music] drops back to pass feeling the pressure and he fumbles the football good thing they got the ball back that fumble could have really cost him [Music] from their own 26 yd line it's third down there's a play fake he's got it and he's taken down at the 13 yd line nice play good job here by the quarterback is staying with his receiver and the receiver stays with the route because he knows his quarterback has the arm strength to get there first down about 12 yds out [Applause] he almost had it but it's incomplete the offense took an errand shot into the end zone and I'll tell you what that one should have been picked off yeah I'm sure he's going to hear all about that from his teammates when he comes over to the sidelines out his tight end open and he drops [Applause] it third down again he drops back it was the Umpire that threw the flag and generally that's a holding penalty holde this should be an easy field goal this will be a 30yd field goal attempt kicks away and he just didn't have the leg for this one not a lot of success on that kick this guy needs to go back over his mechanics something seems to be off in his footwork and that's not a good thing for a kicker sometimes it is very hard to correct the offense is looking to be a little bit more successful with this drive as they had to punt the ball away the last time they had it first down looking to throw tipped [Applause] away second down 10 to go ball in the 20 he drops back and he's tackled right [Applause] away so it's third down and there just inches away from picking up the first down they go with a run and he's going to be stopped short the defense needs to be careful the safety might have made that play but if he keeps coming up on the Run they'll be spaced down field for the pass he punts it away and it's a great so they'll move back after that L penalty and they'll have to try to get that yardage back here give to the tailback flags are down and this one might be on the offense still first down first and 15 now now after the penalty there are five wide receivers split out the quarterback in the gun drops back on first down brought down at the 17 personal foul face mask on the [Music] defense first down from their own 32 yd line first [Applause] down they'll bring him down at the 34 personal foul face mask from the defense first down first down 10 to go ball B on the 49 yd line on the ground and he won't get back to the line I don't think the play developed the way it was supposed to and the net result is a loss second down about 12 yards to go ball on the [Music] 46 he makes it out to maybe the 49 yd line personal foul face mask defense first down from the 36 yd line first down tackle at the [Applause] 31 it's second down five to go ball on the the 31 yd line decides to slide he didn't get a bunch of yards but it's better that he protects himself rather than taking a big hit on that [Applause] play Third and short and they'll throw for it he's out of bounds incomplete good effort there there by the receiver but just not enough room for him to get a foot down in [Applause] bounds give it to the back and they take him down and they lose possession on down you know that was one of those situations where you have to go for it to try to get something going now they need a big play here from their defense you really can't say enough about this defense fourth and short and they really showed up on that play and they make the stop at the 31 yd line personal foul face Mas on the defense first down from their own 46 yd line first down [Applause] quarterback's going to run it and he's got room to work slides down and that's their third first down of the drive the defense needs to figure out a way to stop them or else they're going to have no problem putting points on the [Music] board we've got a first and 10 ball on the 41 halfback gets the call and he answers big time gets out to around the 28 [Applause] defense still they line up for another first and 10 and they're really on a roll this drive [Applause] guns it in there touchdown make it two TD catches now well it's obvious the coach wanted to get him involved in the game plan it looks like it was a pretty smart move [Applause] too he makes the pat a quick two-play 56 yd drive and it results in a touchdown so the score now 14 nothing Stanford is lining up to kick this one off he sends this one deep no chance for a return it'll come out to the 20 this drive will start at the 20 first and 10 hands it to the back there's a flag on the field and I think I have a good feeling of what this might be that penalty drives them back and they're shooting themselves in the foot here well if they can just keep their concentration they'll avoid situations like [Applause] that fl's it and almost had it intercepted that could have been a huge shift in momentum if they were able to hold on to that one wow that was close there are five wide receivers split out the quarterback in the gun on the ground with a tail back and he gets a yard on the Run third down and long coming up here ball on their own 12 they hand it off again nice run there he's a guy who's capable of some big Gams but it wasn't happening on that play So it's Fourth Down the punter comes on the field getting ready to send one off he really got a hold of that one he's out to the 30 and he makes it out to about the 37 yd line made a few guys miss on his way to a quality return they'll start at the 37 way to look it in from their own 45 yd line Second down [Applause] they'll bring him down for a loss on the play well you think about receivers coming over the middle taking shots from this safety but a runner who's still in the back field this guy just flies all over the field from their own 42 yd line it's third [Applause] down drops back to pass and he's taken down at the 44 yd line terrific execution by the entire offense to make that run work and to get the third down [Applause] conversion from the 44 yd line first down a little laundry on the field and we'll find out who's it ising on well if you want to ruin a drive just grab a hold of a defender's Jersey first and long now after the penalty here's the run right he's got nowhere to go that'll bring an end to the first quarter of action the count here at Stanford stadium is the Cardinal 14 the horn frogs nothing from their own 44 yd line it's second down off the right side taken down hard pick up of a yard for the tailb this linebackers had a couple years of experience and he's really solidified himself as a reliable tackler as you can see from that last stop back to pass it's fourth down they come out in a punt formation here's the punt no they're going to throw it oh great catch he gets out to about the 28 yd line [Applause] [Music] here's the eighth play of the series first down he looks to throw on first down they'll make the sack give the coverage all the credit here they stuck to those receivers and gave the pass rush enough time to bring the quarterback down down defense looking for another sack in this second down and long [Music] [Applause] situation drops back to pass a little toss across the middle he's tackled at the 25 person foul face mask on the [Applause] defense first first down on the 12 and they can smell the goal line got him and he goes down quickly they pick up at the most four yds on the screen play it's the 11th play of the [Applause] drive we're at the 12th play of the drive third down drops back to pass caught open field he's taken down at the two that's a key play to find the open man and keep the drive alive they're crowding that line of scrimmage fullback run and he's stopped in the back field that is exactly the type of play that good linebackers make on a regular basis and if you can make enough of them in college you're probably going to get a chance to play at the next level looking to throw that one's incomplete it's always tough trying to put the ball out of the defender's reach but where your guy can still come down with it in bounds it takes a lot more Precision than it [Applause] looks after C the field is overturned so they'll overturn the call and rule this a completion there was a bad call made on the field but they were able to fix it because of the replay this is exactly why the booth review is a great thing for college [Music] football Stanford gets set to kick this one away nice kick plenty of distance and this one's going to come back to the 20 they'll go to work at the [Applause] 20 option right side and down he goes at the 21 yd line personal foul face mask from the defense first down from their own 36 yd line first down first down look at to throw broke away from one I don't really know what this one's for let's find [Applause] out that penalty will move him back a bit yeah with so many young guys out there it's bound to happen occasionally and it's knocked [Applause] down second and long ball on the 26 yd line complete brought down nothing doing from their own 29 ydd line third down they bring him down boy this defense really came to play today well they said before the game that they wanted to put a lot of pressure on this quarterback they sure stuck to that plan booming kick this punt goes over the goal line and this will be a Touchback they'll go to work at the 20 he Chucks it downfield missed him I'll tell you if he put a little bit more air under that ball that would have allowed the receiver to run right underneath it and catch it right in stride back to pass tackle made at the 34 yd line he's up to 200 yds passing I'll tell you what this guy is so much fun to watch when he gets into a rhythm like this up the middle for a nice game nice gain of around seven yds on that delay second down and they're going to need about three yds to pick up the first down he makes it to the 42 yd line personal foul face mask from the [Applause] defense first down from from the 43 yd line it's first down looking left finds his fullback brought down at the 40 yd line they complete the playaction pass for a pick up of three it's second down seven to go ball on the 40 yd line [Applause] third down now and they need to get it down to the [Applause] 33 and that one's incomplete that pass didn't look exactly right when it left his hand sometimes you don't get a great grip on the ball and it comes out a little wobbly gets it away wait a minute he's going to throw he makes it out to maybe the 29 yd [Applause] [Music] line first down 10 to go this is the ninth play of this drive [Applause] he gets another carry gets out to around the 18 that was a great call yeah here you see the draw play at its best the tail back got good blocking up front and was able to pick up a bunch of [Applause] [Music] [Applause] yards from the 18 yd line it's first down gets it out to the tight end and he can't hang [Applause] on from the 18 Y Line it's second down he makes it to the 15 yd line person foul Mas from defense first down it's first and goal seven yds for the touchdown [Applause] trying to get it to the tight end but it falls to the ground play 13 of the current Drive second down swatted awaye [Applause] third down they'll line up on the seven yd [Applause] line he's looking to pass has a man but he couldn't drag his foot in that pass led him just a little bit too far but still great effort this one should be makeable [Applause] and it's good Stanford ready to kick this one off sends it sailing downfield and it's sails out of the end zone for a Touchback the offense will start at the 20 first down 10 to go catches it down the sideline but hold on we got a penalty on the play let's check it out on the well if you want to ruin a drive just grab a hold of a defender's Jersey from their own 19 yd line first down passes and it's almost picked [Applause] off from their own 19 yd line it's second [Applause] down they give to the tailb he's tackled at the 22 and the halfback carries for a pickup of three we've got third and eight ball on their own 22 looks to pass he gets the pass away strong showing by the defense you always like to get the other team's offense off the field as fast as you can and this one is a Beauty there's a flag on the play on the you've probably heard it said that there's holding on every play it's just not called I don't think it's really that prevalent but you can get away with it sometimes and other times you can't on the ground with a tail back gets out to around the 22 a nice job by the offensive line and they pick up a gain of Eight Second and short ball in the 22 hands it to the back and they get nice yard on that run a delay doesn't always work unless the ball carrier lets the play open in front of him of course you need some good blocking too which they had here on this play they go with a run and he brought down in the back field when this guy gets his arms around the ball carrier I don't care who it is he's not getting away flares it and almost had it intercepted it's third down 12 to go ball on the [Applause] 27 and they got him [Music] fourth and long here after the sack he really got a hold of that one flag on the play Let's see what it is clipping on the receiving team he did a good job there to give his team decent field position from their own 33 yd line it's first down there are five wide receivers split out the quarterback in the gun throws it watch out oh almost had a pick makes it second and 10 it's second and 10 ball on the 33 fires incomplete he had to get rid of that one in a hurry the defensive coordinator cooked up a good Blitz package that time and although it didn't result in the sack it forced a bad throw and he's going to be sacked after the sack it's now fourth and long it's away and it's a booming punt this one will go into the end zone and they'll bring it out to the 20 they'll take over at the 20 yd line and he's taken down at the 21 the halfback picks up a yard from their own 21 yd line it's second down here's the option left they bring him down in the back field you can't teach Instinct the ability to know where a play is going is something this safety has that was a terrific effort he drops back lets it Fly this one is batted away well that's one effective way to slow these guys down getting a hand between the ball and the receiver fourth down here comes the punter looking to boot this one away and this one is a beauty he's out to the 30 a little laundry on the field and we'll find out who's it [Applause] is holding penalties can really kill momentum but sometimes if you don't hold your quarterback can take a pretty good [Applause] shot runs with it and he's got room Dives and he's down so the quarterback scrambles for about eight yards second down and around one yd to go ball on their own [Applause] 28 looks like someone was called for [Applause] holding that penalty drives them back and they're shooting themselves in the foot here well if they could just keep their concentration though avoid situations like that here's the halfback tackled after a decent [Applause] pickup we've got a third and six here ball on their own [Applause] 24 looking for his man incomplete nothing clicking there let's see if they can make a few adjustments before their next series fourth down here comes the punter looking to boot this one away booming kick this punt goes over the goal line and this will be a Touchback they'll take over at the 20 we've got a first and 10 looks to the back and can't connect second down and 10 to go ball on the 20 they'll run the option and they get him in the back field for a loss it was a defensive lineman that got a hold of him there you're not going to break many tackles when this guy gets his hands on you here's a hand off and he's brought down right away when you get in these third down situations a confident offense expects to get the yardage they need on the ground it's a good job by the defense to shut that down and this one is a beauty he's to the 20 he gets out to about the 25 yd line person foul Mas on the defense still first down from their own 40 yd line it's first down drops back to pass quarterback's going to run it and he's got room to work Dives forward about nine yds there on the quarterback scramble it's second down now and they're just a few feet away from that first down marker back to pass he's taken down at the 33 well how about the Poise this kid wasn't worried about the blitz at all both middle linebackers were coming and he stayed calm and delivered the football for a new set of [Applause] [Music] [Applause] downs from the 33 yd line first down looks left finding his tail back tackle made at the [Music] 28 personal foul face mask from the [Music] defense first down from the 14 yd line first down throws out to the running back no [Applause] good from the 14 yd line it's second down give to the tailb and there's a penalty on the play let's see who it's on you've probably heard it said that there's holding on every play it's just not called I don't think it's really that prevalent but you can get away with it sometimes and other times you can option here tackle at the 21 a couple maybe three yards on that run boy the senior linebacker's experience really showed on that run he sniffed it out perfectly and made the tackle [Applause] back to pass this one's going deep to the end zone and a huge touchdown play nicely designed play to the wide receiver and it got him six you said it Brad in a good time to call it I tip my hat to the offensive coordinator once he gets those Jets on there wasn't going to be anything that could stop him and they're looking to get two points here drops back to pass and they won't get the two a five playay 55 yd drive and they get six points on the board after failing the two-point conversion so the score now 24 six someone down there just a little bit slow to get up TCU ready to kick this one off [Applause] he hits a booming kick and they can forget about returning this one they'll get the ball here at the 20yd line it's first and 10 first down looking to throw keeps a foot in and pulls it down there's so little room for air on most throws so when you can toss one up like that for a big completion it can boost your confidence from the 47 yd line first down gets to about the 47 yd line picked up a yard of anything on that run Stanford takes a timeout and they'll have two remaining and off up the middle and he's stuffed the defense just met the blocker head on and drove them back straight into the runner third down now and they need to get it down to the 37 back to pass incomplete pass these guys just don't seem to be on the same page and they're going to have to be if they expect to win this game it's away and it's a booming Punt and that punt didn't have a chance it's out of the end zone for a Touchback for Stanford their pass rush has really been impressive today Kirk Brad right now what I'm seeing is just great speed by this defensive line they're putting a lot of pressure on the quarterback because of their athletic ability to get by the offensive lineman and for the horn frogs they haven't done a good job of moving the ball either well I think they're doing a great job right now with their athletic ability of putting pressure on the quarterback and when you're an offense and you're struggling like this it's going to put you in a lot of third and long situations which obviously allows the defense to pin their ears back and just flat out come after the quarterback when the defense plays well it can rub off on their offensive teammates and that's partially what's happened he's going to pick up less than a yard on the quarterback [Applause] scramble throws out to the running back no good well I know it's a lot easier to say when I'm not the one being chased but he needed to just Chuck the ball into the stands and avoid the pressure lets it Go the 50 and he's taken down at the 44 yd line what a huge let down by the defense on a big third down play and that is just inexcusable it's first and 10 ball on the 44 yd line tackled after a decent pickup the offense calls a timeout and they'll have one timeout left there are five wide receivers split out the quarterback in the gun good job here by the defense if you let this quarterback set and throw he'll kill you all game but they got EX excellent pressure on that play now we'll see how the backup can do after that injury drops back to pass out of Bounds at the 36 when you only need a couple of yards on third down as a quarterback you always want to try to find a receiver to throw to that's across the first down marker this flag came from the Umpire and that means this is probably [Applause] holding well if you want to ruin a drive just grab a hold of a defender's Jersey it's Fourth Down looks like they're going to punt it away here they get this one off and it's a beauty and it goes out of the end zone for the Touchback they'll get the ball here at the 20 yd line first and [Applause] 10 nice run up the [Applause] middle from their own 24 yd line Second down he's taken down at the 25 yd line first half comes to a close as they head to the lock rooms the count here at Stanford stadium is the Cardinal 24 the horn frogs 6 and the teams are lined up to start the second half nice kick plenty of distance no chance for a return it'll come out to the 20 let's toss it down to Aaron Andrews for an update from the sidelines the quarterbacks haven't been so lucky each taking numerous sacks and for TCU they really have to improve their defensive efforts or we're going to see a lot more of the same in the second half Brad back up to you if they score a touchdown in this series that'll make it four they'll start this drive at the [Applause] 20 tackled after a decent run up the [Applause] gut from their own 24 yd line Second down he drops back caught it but they're going to lose yards he was tackled immediately and they lose a couple there really they just had nowhere to go after the [Applause] catch looks to pass brought down in the open field this guy is one of the most reliable receivers around they needed a big play on third down and he got it for him nice run and he's brought [Applause] down they're about four yards away here on second down and he's taken down at the 45 yd line from the 45 yd line first down [Applause] first down looking to throw throws incomplete he put a little bit too much mustard on that throw and it got away from him from the 45 yd line Second down the halfback with a carry it was the fire that threw the flag and generally that's a holding penalty on the well if you want to ruin a drive just grab a hold of a defender's Jersey so it's second down and long now after the penalty they'll on the option he's at Midfield makes it out to about the 46 unselfish play by by the quarterback as the option gives them a nyd gain third down and they need to get it down to the 35 back to pass he Hees it to the end zone and he's got it touchdown that gives him 100 yards in the game if you can get open and hold on to the passes chances are you're going to have a good game and that's exactly what this guy's been able to do [Applause] today he splits the uprights with the extra point it was an play 81 ydd drive and they get it in for seven the score now 31 six Stanford gets set to kick this one away he just drills this one and they can forget about returning this one they'll go to work at the 20 yd line they go to the ground game and they hit him in the back field loss of one there for the [Music] halfback from their own 19 yd line Second [Music] down on the handoff watch out makes it to the 31 first first [Applause] down first and 10 ball on their own 31 here's a running play a little laundry on the field and we'll find out who's it is holding that penalty will move him back a bit yeah with so many young guys out there it's bound to happen occasionally looking to throw tackle at the 35 it's second down seven to go ball on their own 35 nice catch first down and he's knocked out [Applause] from their own 49 yd line it's first down and he's sacked they need to run some screens and some quick Slants to try to take advantage of this Pursuit because this defense is coming after him he drops back can't connect nobody was going to catch up to that one this guy needs to just calm down he fired that one about as far as he could throw [Applause] it they come out in a five wide set back to pass he's wrapped up for the sack can this offense do anything to slow down this defense well they need to start keeping their backs in to help out and blocking the quarterback is getting pounded back there the sack makes this a fourth and very long oh excellent punt this punt bounces into the end zone and this will be a Touchback and what a game it's been for this quarterback Kirk oh this is an example of this quarterback just really being able to go out and show his competitive spirit and each time he plays he puts that out on display right now this guy is having one of those performances that makes this defense have to make some kind of adjustments because he's in a Zone and if you don't do anything to get him out of that zone it's going to be a long day for this defense we'll see what else he has in store for this defense as they look to tack on more points they'll start this drive at the 20yd line first down 10 to go they'll run the option they'll get him for a loss foul face mask on defense first down from their own 32 yd line first down straight up the middle and he'll lose yardage there was just no daylight on that play and the defensive lineman was the reason well that's one way to get involved in the game great stop in a back field and he's tackled at the 39 a nice job by the offensive line and they pick up a gain of eight it's third and three ball on their own 39 you got a lot of Jersey on that play not too much argument about this calling it looked like he might pick up ahead of steam and get the first but the defense collapsed on him before he could get there oh excellent punt this punt goes over the goal line and this will be a Touchback they'll get the ball here at the 20 yd line [Applause] run right side nice run to the [Applause] outside it's second down six to go ball on their own 24 and down he goes at the 37 y first and 10 ball on the 37 yd line here's the option defensive coordinator has a lot of confidence in his pass defense if he's releasing a safety to stop the run [Music] from their own 34 yd line Second down they'll spread the field with five wide there's a flag on the field and I think I have a good feeling of what this might be well when holding is that obvious the official most definitely is going to bust you second down and a way to go because of the penalty hand off up the middle flag on the play Let's see what it ispp on the that one will put the offense in a hole and they'll try to get some of that back on this upcoming play so it's second down and long now after the penalty he gets another carry and they make the stop at the 27 yd line and the halfback picks up nine yards on the delay we've got third and long here ball on the 27 ydd line moves up and the defense has got [Applause] it fourth down and they're ready ready to punt this one [Applause] away it's away and it's a booming punt so this one goes into the end zone and that'll be a [Applause] Touchback they'll go to work at the 20 it's first and 10 and he's taken down at the 32 first down 10 to go ball on the 32 yd line on the delay and he's brought down immediately and he was pretty much stuffed on that run you know what that was just a nice job by the defense in stopping him before he could get going and build up momentum open receiver [Applause] dropped here's third and 11 ball on the 30yd [Applause] line Looks to pass brought down at the 41 I know the defense would have liked to have prevented such a big game but the important thing is that they held and brought up fourth [Music] down it's fourth down they come out in a punt formation they get this one off and it's a beauty so this one goes into the end zone and that'll be a Touchback it's been a good day for this defensive lineman really showing off his skills but when you have a defensive lineman that's able to control the football game from the inside it forces the offense to have to account for him on every single play yeah and with three sacks you might want to start chipping this gu you know you better use a running back you better use a tight ends anything you can to slowing down well all of his good plays have added up to his team enjoying the lead they still have time to put up a few scores the question is will it be enough and can their defense make enough stops for it to matter pass is tipped away that's what the defensive back coach likes to see his kids reacting when the ball's in the air and then making the play give to the tailb and he's met in the back field did you see how that big defensive line got such a good push on that play that's exactly why they were able to stop him for a [Applause] loss back to pass he gets sacked on the play that's sack number nine they got him again it's been quite a special game for this pass rushing defense [Applause] the sack makes this a fourth and very [Applause] long oh excellent punt he makes it out to maybe the 43 yd line nice yardage on the run back they'll take over at the 43 yd line [Applause] he makes it out to maybe the 46 yd line personal foul face mask from the [Applause] defense first down from the 39 yd line first down going right to his tail back and they make the stop at the 32 yd [Applause] line Second and three ball on the 32 yd line hands off to the left and they wrestle him down behind the line a good tackling safety is key for any defense and if they can diagnose a play like this guy can he can be a real Menace drops back to pass they get to the quarterback and now the ball is loose and they will keep the drive Alive by recovering their own fumble it's Fourth Down the punt team is on the field looking to kick this one away and this one is a beauty and it goes out of the end zone for the [Applause] Touchback they'll start at the 20 first and 10 looking deep to the right and he's taken down at the 32 yd line he goes over a 100 yds in receptions well this guy is such a big part of this offense if he doesn't get his numbers they usually don't have much success moving the football first down 10 yds to go ball on the 32 yd [Applause] line he makes it out to maybe the 29 yd line personal foul face mask on the [Music] defense first down we've got a first and 10 ball on the 15 looking to throw caught and he's hit immediately only three yards there on the throw doesn't look like this defense is going to let him beat him with the Deep passes so they'll allow those short completions to the tight end inside give Hello nice to meet you personal foul face mask on the defense first down first down they'll try to get it in from the 5 yd line Let It Go and it's caught for the touchdown they had a mismatch and explor it for the score if you're right the tight end had that one all the way and there wasn't much the defense could do and he adds the extra point it was a quick three playay 75 yd drive and they put up seven points so our score 31 13 TCU is ready to kick it away and this is just a booming kick and they can forget about returning this one they'll get the ball here at the 20 first and [Applause] 10 they'll knock him down for a loss it's never good for a back's confidence to get tackled for for a loss but this guy knows that he's got to just keep at it and the holes will start to open up he got a lot of Jersey on that play not too much argument about this call on the well if you want to ruin a drive just grab a hold of a defender's Jersey so it's down and 15 after the penalty he gets another carry they'll drop him for a [Applause] loss foul face mask from the defense first down it's first and 10 ball in the 29 throws complete and he's hit right away personal foul face mask from the [Applause] defense first down first and 10 ball on the 48 yd line [Applause] from their own 48 yd line it's second down again with the Run they'll bring him down at the 36 yd line first down 10 to go ball on the 36 yd line they go with the run and he's tackled in the back field for a loss a loss on that one as he couldn't get past those big linemen you got that right they sacrificed their bodies in there and stuffed him and it's caught tackle at the 33 yd [Applause] line third down now and they need to get it to the 26 [Applause] oh and he had some steam on that throw and down he goes at the 17 yd line he showed you right there why a defense can never lose tabs on him Take Your Eye Off him in coverage and he'll create a big [Music] play we've got a first and 10 and this is the ninth play of the current Drive got his man can't tack on any yardage almost six yds on the [Applause] playaction second and four ball on the 11 he's tackled at the 10 yd line a one yd gain by the halfback the offense line has got to do a better job of making space because that was just a punishing [Applause] hit they run it for the first and he stopped personal foul face mask from the defense in a game like football if you keep giving away opportunities like this I guarantee you they'll come back to haunt you sooner rather than later and now let's send it down to Aaron Andrews with an injury update thanks Brad the training staff is telling me he did suffer a concussion he won't be returning to the game I'm being told Brad I'll send it back up to you guys in the bo these guys are going to have to find somebody else to step up now thanks Aaron Brett I I agree I think it's a given you've got to keep him out due to this concussion and and really for that matter for all the young kids that are out there you don't want to mess around with anything like this if you take a shut and you have symptoms like dizziness or blurred vision you got to talk to your coach talk to your trainer sit out avoid any kind of potential risk and then eventually you can come back once you're feeling better and get back out on the field and help your team this was just an unnecessary hit he should have been disciplined for a play like [Applause] that gets it on the pitch hold everything folks there's a marker down let's get the call well if you want to ruin a drive just grab a hold of a defender's Jersey first down they'll line up on the 10 drops back to pass looks to the end zone and some of the players are looking back because we have a penalty on the [Applause] play he's ringing up the points with all these touchdown throws that's his fourth well he's shown such great Poise back there in the pocket that's the main reason he's been able to find the end zone so many times he splits the uprights with the extra point a nine playay 68 yd drive and they add seven points to the scoreboard so the score now 38 13 Stanford lines up for the kickoff he boots it deep downfield and they can forget about returning this one they'll start this drive at the 20 first down 10 yds to go they keep it on the ground with a tail back flag down and I'm not sure when it was thrown let's find out that's frustrating for a coach when you preach fundamentals every week and then have someone called for clipping that penalty really is going to set them back he makes it to the 18 yd line a yard maybe two on the carry and it looks like they're going to run away with this one as we head into the fourth quarter the count here at Stanford stadium is the Cardinal 38 the horn frogs [Music] [Music] 13 from their own 18 yard line it's second down throws it deep downfield missed him yeah the timing here between the quarterback and the receiver looked a little off there sometimes that happens especially on a deep throw they run it for the first and he stops you've got to go after yards and bigger chunks under these circumstances short runs are aren't going to cut it [Music] anymore he gets it away and this is a really nice punt from the 15 this flag came from the Umpire and that means this is probably holding on theing well if you want to ruin a drive just grab a hold of a Defender Jersey from Their Own 20yd Line first down runs it and he stops short of the line of scrimmage and the defensive end comes up with a big play boy he's quick as a cat no question he got tremendous penetration and was able to wrap him up for a loss [Applause] there give to the running back and he's going to lose yardage they couldn't get back to the line of scrimmage on that one I don't think they did a very good job of selling the pass the defense was able to read the play and come right in there and make a nice [Applause] stop back to pass and he's going to come up with a sack after the sack it's now fourth and long he really got a hold of that one there's a flag down and it looks like this one's coming back clipping on the receiving team that one's going to put him way back you just can't block a player from behind like that or it's going to cost you they come out in a five wide set drops back to [Applause] pass it's second and 10 ball on their own 22 he's taken down at the 22 maybe a yard on the Run by the tail [Applause] back from their own 20 2 yd line third down he's looking to pass he delivers it's a great series here for the defensive side they know they've got the upper hand right now late in this game fourth down the punter comes on the field getting ready to send one off he really got a hold of that one he's out to the 30 looks like someone was called for [Applause] holding you've probably heard it said that there's holding on every play it's just not called I don't think it's really that prevalent but you can get away with it sometimes and other times you can't he makes it out maybe to the 26 yd line three yd gain by the running back from their own 26 yd line it's second down he drops back they bring the quarterback down personal foul face mask defense first first down 10 to go ball on the 39 makes it out to maybe the 40 yd line and he gets a yard on the run it's second and eight ball on their own 40 lets it Fly and it's knocked [Applause] down it's third down eight to go ball on the 40 yd line drops back to pass holds it in first down and he's knocked out of bounds he's been firing it all game long and he's now got 400 yds the guy has done a great job moving the sticks all day long he's a really good player this is certainly one of the better performances we've seen in a while nice catch first down and he's knocked out well he started to cheat up when he thought it was a run and it only took a second but that moment's hesitation contributed to a nice completion [Music] from the 19 yd line first down and he's tackled at the 18 yd line a yard of any there for the halfback and this play is number eight on the drive five it's second down and they make the stop at the 15 yd line the back gets three on the carry so we're looking at another third down [Applause] here back to pass the five this one might be coming back folks let's check out the [Applause] penalty that one's going to put him way back you just can't block a player from behind like that or it's going to cost you he's looking to pass excellent open field tackle that was a nicely thrown ball with some arc on it he's a very precise passer and he makes it look easier than it is first and goal from the three let's see if they can muscle this one in they're crowding the line [Applause] they run it and he's in nice time to use the fullback there I've always liked when teams mix it up and give the fullback the ball in goal line situations if the big Bruiser can't get you a couple of yards you don't deserve to get in and the extra point is no good a nice nine play 66 yard drive and they'll walk away with just six points after the miscon conversion so our score 44 13 Stanford is ready to kick it away sends it sailing downfield and this one's going to come back to the 20 they'll get the ball here at the 20 yd [Applause] line laying it out there he's got his man beat he caught it and they bring him down at the 42 yd line guys when we were at practice this week you kind of got the feeling that they might run a little no huddle in fact here it comes has it to the senior personal foul face mask from the defense first down from the 21 yd line first down they'll throw on first down they bring him down I think the offensive line missed a block there somebody did it was like a jailbreak up front and the linebacker will get the credit for the sack second down and they've got 15 for the first down ball on the 26 yd line takes it up the middle for a nice run and he picked up almost four on that halfback Delay from the 22 yd line third [Applause] down drops back to pass this one's going deep to the end zone penalty marker down in the back field might be a holding call personal foul dring the [Music] pass oh man they've got to be frustrated I'm sure they were ready to get off the field and now they've just handed the offense a whole new set of downs he makes it to the nine personal foul face mask on the defense first down they're inside the five ball on the five they put everyone up on the line option right side I'm pretty sure they won't win it but they haven't quit yet they just make that play look so simple the timing on that option was just perfect and when the option has run this well it is very very hard to defend and the extra point is no good a Fourplay 71 yd drive and it results in six the score now 449 TCU to kick he got all of that one and this one's good to come back to the 20 from Their Own 20yd Line first [Applause] down tackle made at the 23 and the halfback carries for a pickup of three second down and seven ball in the 23 [Applause] room around the corner gets to about the 24 yd line personal foul face mask from the [Applause] defense first down first down 10 to go ball on their own 39 and that one's [Applause] incomplete from their own 39 yd line it's second down gets to about the 41 yd line a yard maybe two on the carry we've got third and eight ball on their own 41 [Applause] hand off and he won't make it well they tried to keep it on the ground for the first down you know Brad here the defense just steps up and makes a play stopping them and bringing up fourth [Applause] down he really got a hold of that one little too much leg into that punt they'll bring it out to the 20 what a day this receivers putting together Kirk well Brad he really has and he's got the hot hand and let's give some credit to the offensive coordinator cuz he's smart enough to get the football to him and allow him to make these plays that's helping this offense out he's done all this damage with just five receptions he'll come back out with the offense hoping to help them put points on the board from Their Own 20yd Line first down [Applause] first down look at to throw he's taken down at the 29 yd line it's second and one ball on their own 29 and he's going to be sacked for a loss great play by the defense that time they came with the Blitz and the linebacker was able to get free and Come Away with this sack they keep it on the ground with a tail back there's a flag on the [Applause] play the offense couldn't get anything going that time no they couldn't they really looked out of sync there and they're going to have to make some some adjustments to come back next time [Applause] out he punts it away and it's a great kick he's to the 20 flag down and I'm not sure when it was thrown let's find out on the receiving team made a few guys miss on his way to a quality return first and 10 ball in the 29 yd [Applause] Line open man and it's his wide receiver and they tackle him at the 22 yd line foul face from the defense still first down first down from the 11 yd [Applause] line and they make the stop at the 10 the running back gets a yard maybe less it's second down 10 yds away from a score and they get nice yardage on that run it's third down here we go from the 5 yd line drops back to pass here's the pass broken up they came close to giv up the score there yeah but credit the defender he did an excellent job of reading the play and showing instinct to get a hand there to break the pass up nice job and it's good Stanford to kick this one off and he got all of this one great kick no chance for a return it'll come out to the 20 they'll start this drive at the 20 we've got a first and 10 it's complete and he's taken down at the 26 yd line so they go to the air and pick up six well he really didn't have to do too much there to give himself a little room to make the catch and that one's incomplete accuracy is such a vital part of being a quarterback you've got to have an ability to lay the ball right into your guys hands hands it to the back makes it to the 37 and that'll give him another first down excellent job there Brad of running the football that was good execution by this offense and it's knocked [Applause] away it's second and 10 ball on their own 37 back to pass there's a strike complete he's down and once again they'll come to the line try to convert on third down empty backfield quarterback in the gun five wide receivers looks for his running back [Applause] incomplete so it's Fourth Down looks like they're going to punt it away here and it goes out of Bounds at the 5 yd line great job by the punter of getting the ball inside the 20 and turning over field position for his defense well the last Drive was good for three but I'm sure in this one they'll be looking to double that they just seem like they've been in the end zone time and time again there's not much negative you can say about this performance a yard maybe two on the carry from their own seven yd line Second [Applause] down throws a bullet over the middle brought down at the 26 he just continues to torture this defense shredding them for 500 yds he's been making great decisions all day he's got over 500 yds passing today very good arm to go with outstanding decision making good open field tackle you feel bad to criticize anybody for being aggressive but if he wouldn't have bit on the play action I don't know if they would have been able to pick up the first down from their own 46 yd line it's first down drops back on first down tackle at the 46 the slant pattern good for about eight yards on the play [Applause] [Applause] it's second down one yd to go ball on the 46 and they make the stop at the 38 yd line they move the sticks after another first down impressive drive by this offense so far I really like what they're doing by keeping this defense on their heels and moving the ball down field from the 38 yd line first down just under three to go in regulation and there's a penalty on the play let's see who it's on hold holding penalties can really kill momentum but sometimes if you don't hold your quarterback can take a pretty good shot on the ground with a tail back brought down at the 36 yd line personal foul face Mas on the [Applause] defense first down from the 21 yd line it's first down give to the tail back and he's tackled after positive yardage and this play is number eight on the [Applause] drive makes it out to maybe the 13 yd line he gains a couple of yards on the carry third down they'll line it up at the 12 we have less than a minute to go [Applause] nice run there another carry for this kid and he'll get the first down he's carrying this offense on his back right now and I think they'll keep giving him the ball until the defense figures out a way to stop him [Applause] that's the end of the ball game and our final score in this one Stanford 47 TCU 19 let's get Kirk herb Street's final thoughts on this one Herby what do you got for us I have to say that I wasn't expecting a blowout Victory TCU got absolutely crushed today in this football game I hope they can put this one past them because sometimes it's difficult for a program to bounce back after an embarrassing loss like [Music] that take a look at our choice for today's player of the game he made a big contribution to his team's win [Music] that's going to do it for this presentation of NCAA Football 12 for Kirk herb Street and Aaron Andrews I'm Brad nestler saying goodbye [Music] [Music] e e e e e e e e e e e e e
