[Music] hey everyone today I'm diving into a topic that affects all of us twice a year daylight saving time ever wondered why we still change our clocks let's break it down daylight saving time or DST will end in Ohio on November 3rd 2023 at 2 a.m. that means we'll set our clocks back 1 hour and gain an extra hour of sleep sounds great right but why do we do this in the first place DST has a long history going back to the early 1900s it was originally introduced as an energy saving measure during wartime the idea was simple make better use of daylight to reduce the need for artificial Lighting in the US DST was formally established with the uniform time act of 1966 our current schedule starting on the second Sunday in March and ending on the first Sunday in November was adopted in 2005 but does it actually save energy today that's debatable some studies suggest the Energy savings are minimal and might even be canceled out by increased use of heating and cooling plus there are concerns about the impact on our health sleep disturbances mood changes and even increased risk of heart problems this brings us to a big question should we keep DST the sunshine protection act which aimed to make DST permanent passed in the senate in 2022 but didn't make it through the House of Representatives so for now we'll keep adjusting our clocks twice a year as the days get shorter and winter approaches remember to adjust your routines whether you love or hate DST it's still a part of our lives and who knows maybe one day we'll kiss those time changes goodbye thanks for watching if you found this helpful hit that like button and subscribe for more interesting tidbits
