but rather than appreciate the huge Chance the movie takes in Shifting the story almost entirely from Daniel to Mr Miyagi I think most of us were just confused at how far it Strays from the tone and setting of the original the 1987 sequel to Smash Hit The Karate Kid returns Miyagi to his Japanese roots and tells the deeply adult story of The Fallout from his decades old life-altering decision to flee okanawa rather than stay and fight his best friend to the death for the hand of a Woman They both love it's an extremely impactful and emotional story that feels more like a Karate Kid spin-off than a sequel most of the story Stakes were lost on me as a seven-year-old s played by gr voice Danny kamona holds on to the aformentioned death by combat Grudge for 40 years his commitment to feuding with Miyagi is the film's key plot point it too went right over my head as a kid I distinctly remember wondering why the two old guys can't just just get along and why the Karate Kid Never does karate until the literal end speaking of which the conflict between Daniel and the mustache twirling chosen played By Yuji okamoto is weightless in comparison to that of Miyagi Sato and the movie makes the Curious decision to turn the climax of their battle into a literal joke the general consensus is that The Karate Kid 2 is a lesser film than the original and for younger audiences it's easy to understand why there isn't any karate until the beginning of the Final Act and essentially all of the dramatic heft in the first hour is conveyed via dialogue between a quietly wistful Miyagi and doe Daniel for anyone under the age of 15 there simply isn't much happening in this film that Fe features the words karate and kid in the title that all being said I enjoyed my recent rewatch more than any previous viewing it's hard to believe that this chosen is the same guy from season 3 of Cobra Kai if nothing else it's a reminder that each day is an opportunity to be and do [Music] better The Karate Kid part two isn't any better than part one but it is almost as good and that makes it well worth seeing for the whole family if there are some unfortunates out there who missed the first movie this one even gives you a quick but adequate synopsis The Faults of the earlier movie are still in evidence there's loads of sentimentality and almost too much contrivance part two even calls up a convenient hurricane the plot is just as implausible and the good and bad guys are just as quickly identifiable but the two stars are also just as charming and the dialogue is as witty this makes for a satisfying story nonetheless after surprising everyone to become Valley karate champion at the end of part part one and the beginning of part two Daniel say makio comes upon some hard times becoming bereft of his girlfriend and temporarily his mom however that makes him free to accompany his teacher Mr Miyagi Morita to the older man's home in Okinawa it seems that when Mr Miyagi I can't call him just Miyagi as He's listed in the credits left home 40 years ago he sparked a feud his opponent and former best friend Sato Danny kimona has been busy all these years amassing an enormous fortune and waiting to appease his wounded Pride by fighting Mr Miyagi this movie is much more Mr miyagi's story than Daniel's we see his ancestral home in the dojo where his father taught him karate we can really appreciate the influences which molded this extraordinary character in constructing the engrossing story for their sequel however the movie makers have had to engage in some narrative gymnastics for the most part these tricks aren't objectionable but a few do linger in the back of your mind Daniel and his right side of the tracks girlfriend played by Elizabeth Shu in part one made such an appealing couple I hate losing her with just a quick line about her falling for a college football [Music] player Daniel's romantic interest in part to newcomer Tommy tamita is pretty but somehow I never quite buy the relationship the way I did in the first movie now Mr miyagi's romantic interest here is different it adds even more poignance and warmth to his character but it also involves a certain inconsistency one of the most moving scenes in part one showed Daniel discovering how Mr Miyagi lost his wife ironically while he was winning medals in Europe during World War II she died in childbirth in an inter interment Camp due to a lack of medical attention now in part two nothing is said about her and Yuki noou McCarthy is presented as the one true love of Mr miyagi's life this is not an absurd or impossible situation to be sure but I would have appreciated some acknowledgement of his wife's fate out of respect or something I guess this uneasiness shows how much I feel for these characters they seem like real people to me but these quibbles should deter no one who liked part one from seeing part two it's a delightful movie with enough action and karate to keep the younger set interested and a meaty story for the grown-ups The Karate Kid part 2 was released on June 20th 1986 and picks up immediately after the end of the original film but then we fast forward to 6 months later and we see Daniel laruso Ralph machio and Mr Miyagi Nory Yuki Pat Moria traveling to Mr miyagi's Home Country to see ail father and confront his past I'm going to start off by saying that this movie is nowhere near as good as the first movie and neither are the following movies for that matter this film isn't bad by any means it just doesn't have that special element that made the first film a classic The Karate Kid Part Two takes place mainly on okanawa Japan Mr miyagi's home country where he immediately gets into trouble because of past events with a former friend Sato Danny kamona who is out to fight him and revenge due to this s starts to terrorize Mr miyagi's Village unless he agrees to fight him hands down the best thing about this film is the performance and Chemistry Between Pat Marita and Ralph makio they are what brings light to the film but Pat Marita in particular stole this movie he showed deaf and emotion to his character that I was intrigued about the character's motive and backstory Marita gave such a Powerhouse performance on a different note one if the more weaker story arcs that didn't improve the movie it just made it okay is we have another love interest for Daniel since Ali fell in love with some guy at UCLA and Elizabeth Shu wanted to focus on school so that contributed but this time around the love interest is Kumo played by Tamlin tamita and she was meh I didn't feel any chemistry between her and makio and I wasn't invested in the romance that I didn't care I'd say it was the weakest element of The Karate Kid Part Two the final showdown was fun not as entertaining as laruso going up against cobai but it wasn't boring just little fun fight scene the k Kid part 2 isn't a bad movie by any means but it ain't great it's filled with great performances from Pat Marita and Ralph maio gave more heart in depth to Mr Miyagi fun karate fights but the romance was dull the villain wasn't anywhere near as entertaining as John cree and Johnny Lawrence and the Cobra Kai and it's not even close as good as the far superior original film at the end it's a fun movie with its flaws but is easily overshadowed by its predecessor hurricane the plot is just as implausible and the good and bad guys are just as quickly identifiable but the two stars are also just as charming and the dialogue is as witty this makes for a satisfying story nonetheless after surprising everyone to become Valley karate champion at the end of part one and the beginning of part two Daniel say makio comes upon some hard times becoming bereft of his girlfriend and temporarily his mom however that makes him free to accompany his teacher Mr Miyagi Morita to the older man's home in Okinawa it seems that when Mr Miyagi I can't call him just Miyagi as He's listed in the credits left home 40 years ago he sparked a feud his opponent and former best friend Sato Danny Kona has been busy all these years amassing an enormous fortune and waiting to appease his wounded Pride by fighting Mr Miyagi this movie is much more Mr Miyagi story than Daniels we see his ancestral home in the dojo where his father taught him karate we can really appreciate the influences which molded this extraordinary character in constructing the engrossing story for their sequel however the movie makers have had to engage in some narrative gymnastics for the most part these tricks aren't objectionable but a few do linger in the back of your mind Daniel and his right side of the tracks girlfriend played by Elizabeth Sho in part one made such an appealing couple I hate losing her with just a quick line about her falling for a college football player Daniel's romantic interest in part two newcomer tomin Tomita is pretty but somehow I never quite buy the relationship the way I did in the first movie now Mr miyagi's romantic interest here is different it adds even more poignance and warmth to his character but it also involves a certain inconsistency one of the most moving scenes in part one showed Daniel discovering how Mr Miyagi lost his wife ironically while he was winning medals in Europe during World War II she died in childbirth in an internment camp due to a lack of medical attention now in part two nothing is said about her and Yuki noou McCarthy is presented as the one true love of Mr miyagi's life this is not an absurd or impossible situation to be sure but I would have appreciated some acknowledgement of his wife's fate out of respect or something I guess this uneasiness shows how much I feel for these characters they seem like real people to me but these quibbles should deter no one who liked part one from seeing part two it's a delightful movie with enough action and karate to keep the younger set interested and a meaty story for the grown-ups the karate kit part 2 was released on June 20th 1986 and picks up immediately after the ending of the original film but then we fast forward to 6 months later and we see Daniel laruso Ralph makio and Mr Miyagi nyuki Pat Moria traveling to Mr miyagi's Home Country to see his ill father and confront his past I'm going to start off by saying that this
