Intro the moment I told myself that I would stay away from toxic romance I started binge watching Hulu's tell me lies the whole time I kept wondering who was more problematic the new freshman girl Lucy Albright or her senior partner Steven DeMarco I know both these college kids were having problems at home but that doesn't give you an excuse to be cruel to one another right and it was not just these two people the series was filled with a whole bunch of unempathetic brats who never missed an opportunity to demean each other they all had their own reasons to just justify their actions but I know you're not here to listen to my land about some problematic youngsters so let's get started with our detailed recap of tell me Life season 1 so you can prepare yourself for season 2 which will Premier on Hulu this week before we go ahead with the recap a spoiler warning is in order as we will be discussing essential plot points and character details from the show so if you've watched it Party show is split between two timelines it begins in June 2015 some 8 years after our lead protagonist Lucy Albright enrolled in Barett college for her English Majors as she wanted to become a travel writer in the present timeline Lucy seems to be dating Max an ex- army man who looks after his family-owned bar called Stella Lucy met him during her freshman year in 2007 and has a kind of on andof relationship with him since then so back to the story one of Lucy's best friends Bri is getting married to her senior Evan and Lucy has been invited to their engagement party as Lucy reaches the venue she finds out that her toxic ex-boyfriend Steven DeMarco will be attending the party too Evan and stepen were roommates in college and even though no one wanted to see Steven's face again Evan decided to invite him in Pippa who was Bree's roommate in college asks Lucy not to go down Steven's rapit hole and create a mess at the party so Lucy as well as the viewers have been warned that something messy is going to happen happen at the party and the moment Lucy sees Steven's face in the crowd she can't stop herself from going down that memory lane and through her perspective we get a flashback of events that took place in September 2007 when Lucy Bri and Pippa joined the college Macy Campbell's death Macy Campbell’s Death Macy a first year student from Bayville was Lucy's roommate when she first arrived in college Macy Lucy Pippa and Bri became friends from day one and started attending welcome week parties together unfortunately on the second night Maisy met her untimely demise as she died in a tragic car accident while she was driving back to her room from the Kitt Den party as per the reports Macy under the influence of alcohol rammed her car into a tree and died due to impact it's not the whole story though but we will come back to that later Lucy and Steven entered into a Lucy & Stephen Enter Into A Secret Relationship secret relationship so even though Macy's death should emotionally and mentally affect Lucy it didn't she had explained to Pippa and Bri that she didn't get excited about things you see Lucy's School friend Lydia cry had already called her a sociopath for not having feelings for anyone but let's ignore that comment for now at welcome week Lucy met a senior named stepen who wanted to become a lawyer as soon as Sten saw Lucy at the party he started hitting on her even though Lucy wasn't initially interested in him Steven's classmate and longtime girlfriend Diana had broken up with him recently because he cheated on her and if you notice this man's action throughout the series you would call it the best decision of her life though she couldn't stay away from him for long WR Stephen and Diana started hooking up in private and avoided each other in public as Diana didn't want to give the impression that she had forgiven him so easily Steven however used the opportunity to his benefit and started wooing Lucy with his charm and wit they went on a date together only to decide that they would keep their relationship casual and would keep seeing other people why well Lucy didn't want to have anything official as she had recently broken up with her boyfriend back in her hometown and as far as stepen is concerned he doesn't want Diana to find out about his secret relationship with a freshman Wrigley and Wrigley & His Brother Drew his brother Drew Wrigley was a stereotypical macho man who had slept with almost everyone in the college I mean the girls Wrigley was a star football player who later became the captain of the team so you can understand why everyone was so into him his younger brother Andrew or Drew had also enrolled in the same College as a freshman and was initially attracted to Brie until a tragedy took place Drew revealed that on the night of Macy's death he went to bring some beers and while he was driving back he saw a car that came out of nowhere Drew swerved his car to avoid an accident however the other car which actually belonged to Macy crashed into the tree and instead of helping the driver Drew ran away from the scene when rley told stepen about the accident he tried to calm down Drew and asked him to forget all about the night as he didn't do anything wrong well you may ask why stepen would give such advice the reason is revealed later in the series Steven finally broke up Stephen Finally Broke Up With Diana with Diana Steven was pretty young when his father left the family forcing his mother to fend for herself and the three kids Steven grew up in total poverty and had seen the worst days in his life and that was the reason why he really wanted to do something in life it was one of the reasons why step was so attracted to Diana in the first place because her father was a big short lawyer and would have helped Steven to get the right contacts but Steven wasn't the kind of person who would beg for help he would create circumstances where another person would be forced to help him yes he was too proud and arrogant and often acted like a monster when Diana came to baville to meet Steven during the summer break the two smoked together and Diana accidentally revealed that she hooked up with Wrigley during the welcome week this was the exact moment when Steven started hating Diana because he saw himself as superior to the empty-headed Wrigley even though he was his best friend Steven not only stopped seeing Diana after that but also made Wrigley and Drew's lives hell there was no exact reason why Steven was doing so he blamed Diana for sleeping with Wrigley even though they weren't in any kind of relationship when it happened I guess the simplest answer would be Steven's fragile male ego was hurt and every time he saw Diana it just reminded him of things that happened between her and rley and I still don't understand why he was taking it out on Wrigley and Drew who really had nothing to do with it Steven drove Macy to death during the Stephen Drove Macy To Death summer break Lucy visited Macy's Memorial where she found a drawing of the flower in Macy's bedroom that looked exactly like the one stepen had made for Lucy on their first date it turned out Steven and Macy who both belonged to bille had been casually hanging out even before they arrived at bed when Lucy confronted stepen about it he finally revealed the truth and told Lucy that he hooked up with her once in college but it didn't mean anything actually none of it had any meaning to stepen because he had likeed to use people and toss them aside anyway Steven only told a version of the events that took place on the night of Macy's death he told Lucy that Macy called him that night and they hung out he later asked her to drive him back to the campus and that was when the accident took place in short he simply put the entire fire blame on Drew who ran away from the crime scene leaving Steven and Macy behind Lucy too saw Drew and Wrigley as the real culprits for hiding the truth from everyone but you see Steven wasn't telling the whole story so let me explain the missing ends Macy who was drunk and stoned didn't want to drive back to the campus Steven decided to drive instead and while they were on the road Macy asked stepen some really uncomfortable questions which he obviously couldn't answer for stepen Macy was just another girl and he never intend ended to date her Macy wanted him to be honest about it but Steven being Steven never spoke the truth I mean you can understand why if he started being honest with all the girls he had been with they would never see his face again and Steven's fragile ego wouldn't be able to handle that Stephen needed someone in his bed each day and that was the reason why he pretended to be that available guy who was all sweet and Charming back to the story Steven who was driving the car was pretty distracted all this while which was why he didn't notice car coming their way and therefore crashed the car into the tree Macy died on the spot or maybe not but instead of calling an ambulance or the police Steven dragged her to the driver's seat and deleted his messages and contact information from her phone so that he could flee the scene Steven could have tried to save Macy's life but he didn't he just fled he had the chance to be honest with Lucy about the entire thing but instead he put the entire blame on Drew and played the victim card to get Lucy's sympathies by the way after this heartfelt confrontation Lucy and Steven made it official I mean Steven didn't want to but he had no other option left Lucy knew his secret and she subtly hinted that she would expose him if he didn't start treating her with respect and acknowledge her presence so yes that's that Lucy's two Lucy’s Two Greatest Blunders greatest blunders Midway through the series Max the guy Lucy met outside the campus told her that she wasn't exactly a bad person but she was indeed immature and that was the moment when I was pointing my finger at at the screen like Leonardo DiCaprio I think Steven had lost the grip on himself or something which was the only reason why he revealed his involvement in the accident and later brought up Drew in the conversation only to cover it up but Lucy being the immature one didn't quite understand the Fiasco she started to believe that Drew and Wrigley's presence was somehow bothering stepen she actually didn't know the exact reason why the real reason why stepen acted so irritated around jiggle was because he had slept with Diana and Lucy literally had no idea about it so in order to save Steven from all the tension she acted on her own accord and dropped a note at the Dean's office asking them to question Drew about Macy's death that was a really bad move and Lucy literally ruined her character by doing that and sorry I forgot to mention this before but Steven not only hated Wrigley but also his girlfriend Pippa as she being Lucy's good friend tried to warn her about Steven even though Lucy never really listened Pippa had seen stepen and Diana coming out of the empty Library which made her think that they might still be hanging around together and Pippa didn't waste a moment to let Lucy know of it as she didn't want her to look like an idiot in front of the whole college but as mentioned earlier Lucy never really listened Steven on the other hand decided to get back at Pippa for gossiping about him he told drew that Wrigley told Pippa about the accident and now she was telling everyone about it he even suggested that Pippa might be the one who left the letter at the Dean's office these rumors and lies not only ruined Wrigley and pippa's relationship but distan the two brothers at a party Wrigley and RW got into a fight with each other where Wrigley accidentally fell down from the Terrace and broke his knee he was later advised against playing football again but let's see what happens in the next season the second blunder that Lucy had committed was writing a story about her mother's affair with her father's best friend James Davenport Lucy's father had been sick for a very long time and eventually died when Lucy was just 15 on the day of his death Lucy's mother CJ had an appointment in the city because of which she wasn't picking up Lucy's call when she was all alone with her father in the house his health deteriorated but CJ didn't respond later Lucy found out that CJ didn't actually have any appointments instead she was with James when Lucy's father took his last breath and it kind of affected Lucy in a very bad way she never actually gathered enough courage to confront her mother about it but yes she did hate her for seeing James so Lucy had written all about it in a short story that she submitted for her writing class but as it turned out she copied the whole thing from her own live Journal she had written years ago and the teacher found out about it and accused her of plagiarism Lucy didn't have any way to prove that it was her own live journal and therefore in the end had to call her mother to confirm the story's legitimacy her mother was embarrassed but her daughter had left her with no other option either later before leaving the campus CJ told Lucy that she had been seeing James again which disgusted Lucy further and she walked out of there the The End Of Freshman Year end of freshman year at the end of his second year Steven really wanted to do some unpaid internship so he could bag a well paying job after college but for that he needed his mother to manage the funds so that he didn't have to worry about the expenses however at the very last moment his mother cut him off she told him that she wouldn't be able to keep supporting him financially as she had to look after his sister's expenses who had recently enrolled in a boring school so you see an ambitious Sten was left with no other option but to do odd jobs and put his dreams on hold and as if it wasn't embarrassing enough for him already Diana put more fuel to the fire and mocked stepen for the same at this point it became quite evident that Diana wanted Steven back but he couldn't leave Lucy as she knew his secret Lucy Had openly declared war against Diana and the kind of person Diana was she wouldn't have let things slide so easily in season 1's ending Diana asked stean not to settle for something that doesn't live up to his standards yes she was talking about Lucy who didn't have any set goals in life and her entire world revolved around a guy who didn't care about her or respected her to say the least Diana offered Sten a job at her father's firm so that he would be able to get into law College the next year and Chase the Dream he had always wanted to in return she only wanted him to come back to her and you guessed it already this guy flipped instantly he walked out of the room holding Diana's hand and Lucy could do nothing but watch her whole world crumble in front of her Lucy got mad drunk with Evan and slept with him the next morning she found Evan lying next to her I'm not sure if Evan know Lucy ever told Bri about it or not I mean if Bri knew would she still have invited Lucy to her engagement party I guess we will find out soon so back in the present timeline Steven finally spotted Lucy and walked towards her he hugged her and told her that he was engaged he had even brought his fiance to the party who was none other than Lucy's childhood friend Lydia yes I know you might have a lot of questions in your head how did they even meet and why did Lydia fall for that guy even when she knew that Lucy dated someone named stepen in college we will surely find all the answers in the second season What To Expect In Season 2? what do expect in season 2 as per the trailer Lucy returned back to college for the second semester and declared war on Steven for embarrassing her in front of the whole college but would she be able to resist the temptation for long she had also been dating a new guy named Leo played by the Scottish actor Thomas D herti it seems like Lucy is literally unaffected with whatever happened between her and Evan but Evan indeed is struggling with the guilt of cheating on bri Diana and Steven are back together again but for how long pppa could be seen avoiding wrigly but it looks like he wants to patch up and last but not least Bri is hanging out with an older guy Oliver things are going to be really steamy this season and the good thing is we don't have to wait much longer to feel
