Ep 3. NFL Week 1 Picks, Picking all Division Winners, Saquon Barkley Would You Rather

welcome to episode three of the telgate sports podcast I'm here with my buddy Curtis again NFL seasons just a couple days away there's a lot of things to get excited about what are a couple things you are excited to see well one of the things that I am excited to see this year is Justin Herbert finally with a good coach and uh some decent weapons around him I know it's nothing crazy but he's got an upgraded offensive line and finally a competent coach to go along with I think probably one of the more talented quarterbacks in the league I think he's going to have a great year this year yeah I'm excited to see the Chargers as well they don't have any weapons really so I don't really see them making a big push this year they are sneaky they got a couple young guys on the squad but I am excited to see what this team is going into the future I'm also really excited to see the Falcons and watch this squad they've really tried to put together Contender they pick up a quarterback for this already great offense they move off of Arthur Smith I can't wait to see what happens with this guy with this squad yeah I think bejon Robinson's gonna have um I want to say one of his best years but it's only his second year I think he's going to have a great season um I think they're finally going to let him let him Loos I feel like they held him back a lot last year I think they're going to let them lose more this year I feel like it's more of a going and get it kind of year for the Falcons so I think they're going to give it all they got with all their weapons I'm also kind of interested to see how Bryce young does down in Carolina I know people are hyping up Deontay Johnson this year for Fantasy I don't think that offense is going to be anything special I'm not really trying to wish on Bryce Young's downfall because I do kind of like him but he reminds me a lot of Kyler Murray he's really undersized I don't I don't know how he's gonna really last with all the hits in the NFL but we'll see I'm really excited to watch Bryce young as well this was a number two pick in the NFL or number one Bryce young was a number one overall pick in the NFL and we we got to give them a little bit of the benefit of the doubt they they got a new coach and a real wide receiver one now if he just progresses a little bit I think he has that upside he has the dog in him to really change things around he actually has weapons now I think the culture is going to change a bit I know he had a terrible season last year but I think he does have some upsides for the season the bills I'm also excited to see the bills finally get to see who the wide receiver one is I'm kind of leaning a little more towards Dalton concade but I think when Curtis Samuel is all healthy he's going to have a monster season as well I think they're a little underrated for what they have been in the last few years they think just because they he lost a couple targets that this team is a wildcard team but we kind of phased out Stefan Diggs last year halfway through season that's when we really had a dominant end of the season and made a playoff push so I just think that people are trying to pick at things too much I think people are a little too worried about it and I think the bills are going to have a great year yeah I mean I also think the bills are going to have a good year I'm hoping that khil Shakir ends up as their leading receiver this year I think he's going to have an amazing year I think Curtis Samuel is probably going to come in second I think Keon Coleman or uh Doon con will probably take that third spot but um yeah I mean we did phase out Stefon Diggs at the end of the year last year we won games but Josh Allen over those last five games I'm pretty sure throwing only had five touchdowns and five interceptions he didn't his stats weren't really looking that good even though we were winning games he himself wasn't playing exactly like Josh Allen for the end of the season there so it's I feel like it's going to be a little bit of a learning curve for everybody but I think they are going to learn it learn what they're doing and finish off the year strong in the end I don't think it was more so Josh Helen didn't play well I think that when Joe Brady came in the offensive scheme changed a lot and he didn't need to do as much I think the Run game we finally have a run game over in Buffalo James Cook had a great monster half of the second or the second half of the season I think Josh Allen he had great stats and his completion percentage he was making great plays he just didn't need to sling it and force things as much as he usually does I five interceptions over those five games even yeah but he ALS led the whole entire league in touchdown to interception ratio if you're making huge plays and you're winning these games you're slinging it like he does you're going to have interceptions you're still winning these games I AG but I'm saying his stats were not the same as in the beginning of the year when he was throwing it a lot more they started throwing it a lot less so I I think people are expecting all these wide receivers to play a huge deal I don't think they're going to play necessarily a huge deal and I think that there's going to be a little bit of a learning curve going on with with wide receivers and all that so I think it's going to be a little bit rough in the beginning of the season but like I said I think they're going to work it out I also think it was a little bit of a learning curve halfway through the season for Josh Allen when they switched offensive coordinators I think that's probably another reason why you know things were a little different than it looked usually I think when you have they they had a lot of problems last year and when they switched offensive coordinators yeah it was a little bit of a learning curve but they ended up getting into the groove of things having a great push towards the second half of the season the the Philadelphia Eagles I am excited to see this team they had an absolute meltdown halfway through the season last year and this off season they really did try to make a push to change a lot of the things they needed change they added some DBS they got a new offensive coordinator they did try to make a push they picked up a great running back in Squan Barkley I'm excited to see what this team has to hold yeah I for one am not that big of a believer in this Philadelphia team I think that they're acting like picking up a couple DBS is going to solve all their defensive woses they were worst in the league in coverage last year they were the worst defense in the league in the second half if not the whole year and as for their offense I think people are wildly overrating the saquan over DeAndre Swift upgrade I think DeAndre had an awesome year last year and squin it's kind of a toss up whether he's going to stay healthy all year especially with how much they're going to use him it's going to be I feel like what it was what it was like a few years ago in in New York he had a coup he had a couple good healthy years I don't know that he can string together five or six now I haven't seen it so I'm going to need to see it before I believe it people keep talking about the saquan injury and I 100% understand but in my opinion when you're on a bad team and they're not really making moves to win and you're just beating yourself especially at that position when you have a few dings you know you're like all right I'm going to sit out I'm getting paid either way but when you go to a contender team like Christian mcaffry did with the 49ers he had a full healthy season awesome year I think with saquan going to a contender like he's going to have a monster season it's not even just sitting out of games though like in 2021 he played 13 games had 600 yards and what was it four touchdowns that's that's pedestrian numbers and I people are going to say he had a nagging this he had a nagging that I I don't know but I personally just don't I don't think that it's just saquon and a couple DBS are going to take this team from being literally one of the worst teams in the league for the second half of last year like they still their their beginning of the year did save them for the fact that they could still make the playoffs and they just got swamped as soon as they were in there so I don't I understand the phelia I understand the doubt for sure you know there definitely a lot of questions speaking about saquon Barkley would you rather sequan Barkley edition first name up on the list I have jir Gibbs yeah I would definitely rather take uh jir Gibbs Gibs over Sequon at this point I'm going to take Gibbs as well he's a young guy and had an explosive second half of the season last year next we got James Cook James Cook he's he's coming up but another guy I'm not I'm not sure how I really feel about that I got to see him really operate for this entire year coming up I think I'd rather have sequan over James right now but that one's kind of close I think I would go with James Cook he was absolutely phenomenal last year he really took over in that second half of the season was a big reason the bills made that push next up we got Nick chub uh Nick chub so I know they say that obviously after you break a leg like that it's just going to be worse the second time around but and this is the third time around technically but I still as long as he comes back and is playing somewhat like he was I'd rather have Nick chub I'm gonna go with saquan here Nick chub has had this injury happen to him twice he's getting older and injuries like that only stack up I'm going saquin here next name up we got Aaron Jones yeah so Aaron Jones has still got a little bit to prove in my opinion I think I'd rather take saquon Barkley over that yeah Aaron Jones I think I would take saquin as well I think Aaron Jones is a little underrated but I'm gonna go with seon Sequon here next we got Travis NTN Travis etn um I think he had, 1400 yards last year i' I'd definitely rather have Travis etn over s Travis etn you know had a great season last year but I think the volume over production is really what carries I am going to go sequin here I think he's just got more experience he's got that dog in him give me sequan here yeah I think having that much volume and staying healthy for the entire season speaks a little bit to my guy's Talent as well though 100% but he's a young guy and it only Stacks up next thing up we got Josh Jacobs yeah Josh Jacobs is uh one of the top running backs in the league in my opinion I I love Josh Jacobs just uh two years ago he had almost 2,000 yards if not more uh combined rushing in and receiving so yeah I'd rather have Josh Jacobs I'm gonna go Josh Jacobs as well I think he's going to have an awesome year in Green Bay give me Josh Jacobs last name up on the list another young guy bejan Robinson yeah I'd definitely rather have bejon bejan's one of my favorite uh running backs in the league without a question I'm going bejan 2 I think he's going to be one of the best dual threat running backs in the League this year next we're going to give our predictions for the winner of every division this is who's going to win each division in the 2024 NFL season starting off with the AFC East yeah I got the Buffalo Bills the Buffalo Bills have been running this division I'm going with them as well he AFC North AFC North I got the Baltimore Ravens I'm going to go with the Browns here I think if the quarterback Situation's figured out they're going to win this one give me the Browns next we got AFC South I got the Texans winning the AFC South I think uh the Colts are a little bit sneaky if the Texans do take a step back this year but it'll probably be the Texans I think Trevor Lawrence is going to have a big year G me the Jaguars here next we got the AFC West yeah I got the Kansas City Chiefs win in the AFC West the Chiefs own this division give me the [Music] Chiefs heading over to the NFC we got the NFC East yeah I think uh the Cowboys are going to take the NFC East um I think people are really overrating the Pard loss a little bit I think they're going to be just fine so I'm going to go with the Eagles here I've been saying I really like their additions give me the Eagles the NFC North yeah this one was hard I got the Bears ultimately taking it though I'm gonna go with the Packers here NFC South NFC South this one was also tough between the Bucks and the Falcons I think I got to take the Falcons though I think the Falcons are going to be great but I think this is a baker Baker Mayfield prove it year give me Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers NFC West NFC West I got the 49ers with the Rams probably nipping at their heels all season but 49ers winning it I'm definitely going with the 49ers I think they're going to be the best team in the NFL we only got one more segment today we're going to be giving our week one picks for the NFL season okay sorry I had to uh pull them up um NFL picks okay NFL week one picks starting off with the Baltimore Ravens and the the I'm sorry starting off with the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs I got the Chiefs taking this one I'm going to go with the Chiefs winning this one as well next we got Green Bay versus the Eagles I got the Packers taking this one in week one I'm actually going to rock with the Eagles here next we got the Steelers versus the Falcons I got the Falcons taking this one I'm going to go with the Falcons as well Arizona Cardinals versus the Buffalo Bills yeah give me the bills I'm going with the bills as well the Bears and the Titans bears and Titans I got the Bears taking that one I'm gonna go with the Bears as well I think the Titans are going to be sneaky but give me the Bears the Bengals versus the Patriots yeah I got the Bengals winning that one all day I'm going to take the Bengals as well the Texans versus the Colts week one I got to give it to the Texans just to see how Anthony Richardson's doing but got to give it to the Texans division matchup but I'm going with the Texans here the Jaguars versus the dolphins dolphins taking that week one I'm actually gonna mix I'm taking the Jags here Panthers versus the Saints Panthers Saints probably going to be one of the only Saints wins this year I'm going to go with the saint as well Vikings and Giants uh I'm going to take the Giants I'm actually going to take the Vikings here Sam darnold Raiders and chargers chargers for sure I'm going to go with the Raiders here Broncos and Seahawks I'm going to have the Broncos and pton taking this one week one I think bonex is going to come in hot give me the Broncos Cowboys and Browns I got the uh Cowboys winning this one in week one I'm going to go with the Browns having an upset give me the Browns commanders and Buccaneers uh Buccaneers I'm going with the Buccaneers as well lot Angeles Rams and the Detroit Lions Lions are taking this one week one I'm gonna go with the Rams I think the team is just overall better on offense give me the Rams finish off the week Jets and 49ers yeah I think that's a easy win for the 49ers in week one going with the 49ers they're going to have the best record in NFL that's that's all we have for this episode
