happy Tuesday everybody or whatever day you're watching this on I'm recording this on Tuesday and specifically I'm recording this 24 hours from the start the Boston College Florida State game Boston College amazing win 2813 over Florida State as much as the talk is going to be on Florida State I want to say Boston College absolutely top to bottom outplayed and out coached this Florida State team like amazing game from them amazing game from Bill O'Brien what a way to start your program off start your uh sort of regime off with a win against Florida State that's fantastic U the big thing I want to talk about though is that a lot of the discussion of this team has been about DJ uang which is fine it makes sense he was build as this transfer quarterback that's going to come in lead this team to colle playoff and they've lost two games in a row for all intensive purposes they are eliminated from the college football playoff unless something absurd were to happen and it's a lot of it is because of his play he's missed a lot of really like routine throws a lot of throws you need to make if you're a high level quarterback um they have just not been able to move anything on offense I am going to make the argument though that after rewatching this game that it's not entirely or really at all his fault I think it's much more so a structural fault a schematic fault and a fault with the trenches especially let me just say this right dju struggled last night if you have a quarterback that's struggling what's the first thing you turn to the Run game right you would turn to the Run game you'd say well if I can't throw the ball I'm going pass or if I can't throw the ball I'm going to run the ball um they ran the ball 16 times for 21 yards taking out negative plays they ran the ball eight times for 26 yards they ran the ball like a college football 25 team they ran the ball um just super efficiently didn't even try to be completely honest they didn't try this team is like an Air Raid Offense that only runs like short passes it's the weirdest thing I've ever seen and I think it's part of the reason why it's such a surprise that dju has struggled so much because yeah really like highly build guy uh coming out going to Clemson didn't play Super well I don't necessarily think he deserve to get benched for Club Nick but I don't necessarily think he deserve to keep the job either but he goes to Oregon State and he plays pretty well like like he's not an amazing quarterback but he played very efficiently he l a very efficient offense a very successful offense under Jonathan Smith in at Oregon State and then he comes to Florida State and you're thinking okay he's not a world beater I think most college football fans that have followed him realize that he's a very limited player but he has experience you know he's had experience with a lot of different offenses he's been in the game for a while he's got the leadership aspect people rally around him that's probably enough for Florida State to be honest though this is a team that is failing at every single aspect around him and he is just obviously not fit to carry this team like I think if you put Jordan Travis in this same scenario last season they're probably 2 and 0 they don't look good though and I think it's obvious that hey they're like not going to be a good team they're going to lose in a week or two and then they're going to fall apart like it's like a very fake two Ando if you get what I'm saying like talented team that's just winning off Talent Jordan Travis um despite you know he's not a firstr quarterback but he's one of the best quarterbacks he was one of the best quarterbacks in college football last year and I don't think it's an exaggeration to say he could carry this team there's very few Jordan travises out there my issue with this offense is that they were faced with this sort of Bill O'Brien and defensive style of we're going to run we're going to Blitz you a lot we're going to disguise a lot of coverages that's the whole thing he does he CU you know if you've played football before you you recognize that one of the counters to Blitz one of the things you're taught as a quarterback whenever you're facing a blitz is to fill the space with the ball if somebody's coming from a spot that means that that spot is now open right so disguising of coverage running a lot of Zone with your blitzes allows you to fill the gaps with the Defender but the thing is is that like you know if you're a higher level quarterback you can recognize okay well all this all these moving parts are going to leave a gap somewhere that I can fill that my route's going to fill and DJ was just not operating in a way where he could do that but also when I was watching this game I was looking I was watching the replays and I was like they're not filling these gaps because they're not running any Zone beaters they're not running any beaters for a cover three or for cover two they run a lot of cover three Blitz and there was there was nothing nothing being run that in my opinion could have actually stopped this uh defense that could have actually moved the ball they ran very few things that in my opinion were like yeah this is efficient and that on top of not running the ball and also like dju is completely collapsing in the pocket why is he in the pocket every play why are we not rolling him out why aren't we not running any boots why are we not running any Florida Concepts why are we not getting him out of the pocket we can play seven on seven and throw in a like throw with space in front of him why are we not doing that we're just like we're just hammering our head against a wall because Florida State in my opinion what I think is they thought they can go into these two games and they could just beat these teams with talent because they did it last year because they're a very talented Squad and they can't because it's the ACC and as much as you want to sue the conference for not putting up good competition you can't just beat the teams in the ACC with pure talent you have to to be a good coach and a good schematic coach on top of that especially when you're playing against teams would you now played against two of them that have NFL DNA on there they have coordinators that have been in the NFL or have been in the highest levels of college football you're not going to be able to beat a team through just Talent whenever they have that experience especially Bill O'Brien who until he got in his own way was a very successful coach very successful coach at both levels you can't just beat him up through Talon that's not going to work and Florida state is trying to carry themselves so much on talent but they just can't but that's enough of my Florida State rant I really want first before I move on to the rest of the games I want to again give my flowers Boston College I actually think they're going to be a pretty good team this year I'm really excited for their game against Missouri as a missoui fan um you know I'm kind of like okay I'm I'm looking in this game a little bit different I'm looking in this game a little bit different than I was before um I want to talk about some other games mainly I want to talk about Clemson and uh Georgia and the Michigan game um because those were the two maybe most interesting to me for one um I said this on my Tik Tok which you don't follow my Tik Tok um I also did predict that Florida state was not to be very good this year so I will I will take my I will take my credit um I think Clemson is struggling for a lot of reasons I think mainly it's just because they're really stuck with this offense they want to run that isn't very eff like very efficient I think most people sort of knew that Clemson was going to be very good on the opposite side of the ball I didn't think they'd be this bad I don't think that they're necessarily like in a world is on fire thing you can only really be a contender for so long before you're going to fall off unless you're Nick Sabin and I think everybody expects everybody to be Nick Sabin you just can't be that but I just don't think this team is a colge football playoff Contender I me that's fine that's my thoughts I think right now with everybody in the League 2 through 131 the question is can we beat Georgia and right now I don't think anybody can next I want to talk about Michigan um I think Michigan is going to get blown to Smith R by Texas um they won in a 30 to 10 match up against Fresno State it was very ugly davis Warren the quarterback for Michigan is one of the better stories in college football I also just do not think that he is the right quarterback for this team it's not on him I this team just could not establish the run to save their lives and um I think the offensive line has clearly taken a big step back I think that when you have a situation like that kind of like what you know they have at Florida State having a limited quarterback that you know would be fine if this was Michigan last year I think Davis Warden would be just fine as a quarterback U you need to have a guy with maybe a little bit more athleticism to sort of make up for that to sort of make the defense make difficult decisions I think Alex orgy is just more that guy and I think if Alex ory is not playing against Texas I just do not think they're going to put up the fight you would want out of this Michigan team that just won the National Championship um but yeah uh on either tomorrow or Thursday I should have the sort of preview for this college football week and then I'll also have my reaction to Ravens and Chiefs as we start the NFL season uh thank you guys so much for tuning in um share with
