all right looks like we are live what's up SEC fans quarterback fans welcome to week two preview of SEC quarterbacks our second week doing this where we preview every SEC quarterback and and who they're playing and what they need to do to have success then we'll do a recap show as well but this week's gonna be super interesting super fun right we got three out of conference games that are pretty big games obviously Texas Michigan but then we got Arkansas Oklahoma State and then of course Tennessee NC State so it's three games where SEC quarterback is playing an out- of conference opponent which is going to be pretty fun to keep up with and of course we got one in conference game South Carolina in Kentucky and so those are going to be the four specific game breakdowns we dive through today and then we're going to hit on every game like we do every week every quarterback and talk about what we want to see from I think we still have like five games where an SEC team is playing at FCS opponent so but even those games we are going to hit on and if you haven't seen the videos we put out this week we have a film breakdown over Quinn URS needs to do against Michigan check that out we have a film breakdown what ton green needs to do against Oklahoma State and then we have a film breakdown over what Nico imeva needs to do against NC State so go ahead and check those out if you like those film kind of QB Niche breakdowns right so with that said let's just go ahead and dive right into it let's talk Texas Michigan let's talk Quin Ys against Michigan and what he needs to do to have success right so the overall theme in talking to Texas fans is is is he going to rise to the occasion uh and my answer is well he's done it in the past and so I don't even know if that's the proper theme right he's done in the past against Alabama maybe the best game that he's ever had uh playing in in maybe the most hostile environment he's he's played in now I know Washington he struggled in in the in the uh playoff game last year but still he's shown the ability to rise as the occasion OU two two years ago even U last year started off slow start with some picks but bounce back right so before we talk more about Quinn and what we want to see him do let's talk about Michigan's defense because even though Michigan's offense is probably looking pretty suspect as of right now I think their defense is still going to be pretty good their defense only gave up 10 points to Fresno State their defense had a pick six right their defense got a lot of pressure on Fresno State now I'll get it Fresno State is a lot different team than Texas but still let's talk about the defense I think the defense is going to provide a a much bigger challenge than Colorado state if you're watching if you want to comment in the comments please comment below and we'll we'll uh answer those comments during the show and if you're watching after the show let us know your thoughts in the comments below too all right Michigan's defense what are they going to try to do I think number one they're going to try to bait Quinn yours if you watch the game against Fresno State Macky kean's interception the pick six I think the DB just baited him now the receiver probably missed the block but the DB still baited him he knew what play was coming he was five six yards offline scrimmage then broke on it right so I think Michigan's defense is going to try to bait you to think like or to help you think or try to have you think that you have a throw when it's not really there so I think they're going to try to bait you and then pressure can they get pressure they Blitz 59% of Mikey Keane the F State quarterback last week they blitzed 59% of all his dropbacks so are they going to get pressure can they get press right they're definitely going to to try it today had three sacks 11 hurries and a hit last week against Fresno State right so what does that say about quinar what are the takeaways and the keys for him to have success well I think number one it's play Within sark's offense play Within the creativity of sark's offense so we didn't see a ton of creativity last week right yeah we saw some play action but we saw Quinn get the ball get rid of the ball quickly we saw him throw seven of his 20 completions or behind line of scrimmage so we saw The Playmakers we saw the receivers running backs do all the work which is great but I think for them to win this game I think we're gonna have to see more creativity from the offense we're gonna have to see more of sark's true offense they didn't need to show anything last week against claro state but they will this week number two get some big plays off play action Kean was five of six last week off play action against Michigan and Quin Ys the majority of his passes the majority of his dropbacks last year were off play action is one of the highest in all of college football if not the highest I think Gabriel maybe was higher right but we want to get big plays off of play action number three at the same time your offense isn't chunking the ball downfield all the time right now you want to push the ball down field you want to spread it but you want to rely on what you know get the ball out quick give it to your Playmakers you can threaten early I still want to push the ball down field a little bit but you want to establish the Run game right now there's a a lot more previews and breakdowns to talk about than just the quarterback position but we're just a quarterback show so we spend time just on the quarterback right but but to recap what Quinn needs to do against Michigan and that Michigan defense rely on what he knows rely on the offense get rid of the ball quickly you still want to push the ball downfield and probably your success doing it will be off of play action and then number three play Within the creativity of sar's offense I think confusion pre- snap and even post Snap to get Defenders out of position can potentially help to say Bust a big play or two again super excited for this game I think Quinn's had a history of playing well against Elite teams uh and I know Texas is the favorite and I know Michigan's getting some bad publicity not bad publicity just just they are dropping in rankings right for for people at least on social media but I I wouldn't be too quick to to do that like I think Texas is a seven and a half Point favorite right now at the big house I think it's going to be a pretty close game largely because of Michigan's defense I think it's up to Sark and Quinn to have some creative strategies against that defense all right let's go ahead and talk about Nico and NC State what do you want to see from Nico and what can NC State's defense show against against Nico to slow down Tennessee and NC State somewhat similar to Michigan is going down on people's rankings based off their game against Western Carolina and I get it it was like 17717 or something like that in the in the second half at one point now andc they end up winning 38-21 I went back and watched that game and in the score I shouldn't say was um I shouldn't say the score didn't say everything but I think as it relates to NC's NC States defense I think NC State's defense is still pretty good their offense like Michigan kind of suspect about but I think NC State's defense is still pretty good one of those touchdowns that Western Carolina had was off the interception that uh Western Carolina ran back inside the 10 or five and then they were able to punch it in right so there were a few big plays Western Carolina did have but I still think the defense looked pretty good so what sens he st's defense going to try to do against Nico I think that's the biggest question because against Western Carolina I think they didn't want to show much but they maybe end up having to show more than they wanted to right like can NC State get pressure on on W on on Tennessee like they did against Western Carolina they had 18 to pressures can they do that while keeping the Deep ball threat from happening so they only Blitz 30% of Western Carolina's dropbacks right so was this the case because they didn't want to show anything too exotic or did they have to start showing more later in the game because it was a close game and when they did Blitz it was strategic now we put out a film breakdown talking about NC State and talking about when they blitzed and showing them on third down showing some kind of exotic looks and exotic blitzes so if they show that against Western Carolina that can be you can potentially guess they're going to show that against Nico and against Tennessee right Western Carolina only had three completions with a ball with thr 10 yards or more downfield so NC State's defense wasn't necessarily challenged vertically they had one really big completion but I think that was more of a coverage break than anything right so that's what the defense is is going to try to throw at Tennessee keep everything in front maybe disguise some blitzes but at the end of the day we don't know if what they showed against Western Carolina will be what they're going to show against Tennessee so if you're Nico what do you want to do I think number one I think you can utilize your leg not necessarily running the ball which if you have some QB design runs that's great but I think thrown outside the pocket the film breakdown we we broke down Western Carolina one of their passing touchdowns a quarterback was rolling outside the pocket I think Nico being the a that he is can put a threat on the defense right so number one utilize your legs number two be good when the defense drops seven or eight guys which they may do right like I said that's the biggest question are they going to Blitz more or are they going to drop guys in the pressure more and try to confuse Nico I don't know I think that's the biggest question but when they do drop seven or eight guys you want to continue to be good 80% of Nico's dropbacks against Chattanooga the defense dropped seven or eight guys they had not Blitz and he was 19 to 23 for 263 yards and 11 yards per attempt so he was able to dominate Chattanooga when they dropped seven or eight guys can he dominate NC State or play as good as he did against Chattanooga when NC State dropped seven or eight guys number two number three excuse me set up the Deep ball off play action Nico was 14 of 18 for 246 yards in the air three touchdowns 13.7 yards per attempt off play action it's not uncommon for more your bigger plays to be off play action but for example Nico's dropbacks where he didn't throw off play action he was 6.8 yards per attempt so it's a pretty big difference that's almost double the amount of yards per attempt off play action so set up the Deep ball off play action and the number four maybe the the most important one something you want to do starting off the game quick and decisive decisions you want the ball out quick run and manage the offense and then in my opinion this will set up the rest of game this will set up some deep shots this will set up how you utilize your legs right but quick and decisive decisions against NC State against I don't think NC State is as bad as people are making them out to be right again if you have any comments you have anything to talk or add any SEC QB questions let us know in the comments below we got two more big games we're going to dive into and then we'll hit on everyone Els in the SEC and talk about talk about their matchup right and again we we've put out several film breakdowns over the the biggest games um this week as far as as it relates to SEC quarterback so go back and and watch those videos okay let's talk about Arkansas and Oklahoma State where we at where we at let's talk about ton green what we think he needs to do in then Oklahoma State's defense this is I'm really intrigued by right like like going to the season I picked Oklahoma State to to win this game already right but after seeing Arkansas after seeing Oklahoma State against it's week one I don't want to take too much away I don't want to say I'm buying into the hype per se but if tailon green is he if he has reaches his potential if he reaches his ceiling they should beat Oklahoma State so I'm maybe backtracking a little bit as far as what I thought about Arkansas early in the season or before the season start right let's talk about Oklahoma State defense that that they they faced South Dakota State this previous week FCS team but that quarterback was the best quarterback in FCS last year arguably I think he won the Walter Payton award if I'm not mistaken regardless he's one of the best quarterbacks and the FCS they were get a lot of pressure on on South dasta State 18 total pressures two sacks 13 hurries they had some hits on them but the quarterback was 20 to 36 for 264 yards two touchdowns one pick the biggest takeaway I had was the ability for Oklahoma State to get pressure on South Dakota State's quarterback without having to Blitz they only Blitz 15% of the passing plays of South Dakota state so only like six of the 39 dropbacks if my math correct they Blitz but they were still able to get pressure right so are they going to attack Arkansas the same way I don't know but going off that if they drop seven or eight guys they're going to try to force ton green to make a mistake right that's how I think they're going to defend Arkansas because I don't think they know what Arkansas is going to show they I think AR Arkansas is going to show some spread I think they're going to be under cers some maybe show some some some I formation type look because we saw a little bit of that against uapb from Arkansas but tayl and green what are the keys number one I want to run first I want to use those legs I want to establish that hey I'm the best athlete on the field at least when the defense is on the field for oklah state and when the offense is on the field for arkans I want to establish that I'm the elite Athlete on the field I want that to be in their head the entire game that if I take off if I start running the ball a big play could happen I want them thinking about that that's number one number two I want to throw off play action similar to the past two quarterbacks we talked about right but ton green had success off play action in game one again is uapb I get it but he had success off play action and by patrino it's a staple for him set up the Deep play by using play action try to confuse the Defenders get them out of position last week ton green was six of eight for a buck 42 two Tes and zero picks off of play action he was obviously comfortable in play action only 20% of South Dakota's dropbacks were off play action but it was successful right that might have been the stats for South Dakota's quarterback actually I apologize for that but regardless if you're tailing green you want to have success big plays off of play action like the South Dakota State quarterback did last week the number three Don't Force It take the checkdowns like we talked about Oklahoma State's going to try to lure you into making a mistake right now they could still bring some pressure try to confuse you but going to try to bait you into making a mistake so take the checkdowns Don't Force It This is how you keep drives alive number one this is how you improve your accuracy number two and this is how you avoid trouble number three not giving them the ball Alan Bowman the quarterback for Oklahoma State I think through like 15 picks last year let him make the mistake if you're ton green if you're Arkansas let him make the mistake right all right let's keep going on with the next kind of big game I want to talk about and that's South Carolina and Kentucky I think these two quarterbacks are very intriguing to me it's their second start each right Brock Vander for Kentucky and Len noris stellers for South Carolina and and while it was their first start last week they both had two different type of performances but also not nearly enough footage not nearly nearly enough Runway to have a true opinion I don't think right I think we need more game footage I think we need more runway for them to play to really have an opinion but still we got one game to go off of so that's that's what we will go off of so let's talk about Lenor sellers first this South Carolina quarterback my big theme my big question is will he perform better than he did against ODU now that his feet are wet now that he's seen live bullets for a consistent full game will he perform better against Kentucky than he did against against ODU right like where does he need to improve the most well pretty much everywhere as it relates to the passing game but at the same time let's say on the positive side because we did see some good things from Lenor sellers right we saw his athletic ability truly one of the best athletes on the field and we did see his strong arm if you're a South Carolina fan you'll remember but I think it was first or second quarter he threw a deep ball that end up being dropped and it would have got called back regardless because of a flag but you saw his arm right so I want to spread the field even if you don't hit early at least take a shot or two so kuy's defense has that in the back of their mind so against ODU he was 1023 for 86 yards two Tes Z interceptions I think is POS it's is positive excuse me positive I can't talk he didn't turn the ball over at least throwing any picks he had 68 yards on the ground and a touchdown on the ground right so how does he improve how do you if you're South car how do you get him comfortable you got to find some plays that he's comfortable with and and we're not the coaching staff we're not there in practice we don't know but if I had to guess man let's just get the ball out quickly but it's got to be more than screens in my opinion I think KY is going to be expecting that you have to find some type of comfortable throw so if I'm thinking if I'm a good athlete what's comfortable what's probably getting outside the pocket is probably having the option to throw or run right again could be wrong we're not in practice but if I'm the coaching staff if I'm just some random YouTuber talking about him which I am that's what my thoughts go to right but regardless what is get him comfortable find plays that he's comfortable with find ways that you can have success throwing the ball throwing some intermediate type throws last week or against ODU he only had what two only had three completions Beyond nine yards um seven of his 10 completions were nine yards or less with three of those being behind the line of scrimmage right so yes he can improve but to win I think they're 10 dog 10o underdogs right now to win Lenor sers is going to have to improve in the passing game have more of a threat doesn't have to be deep balls now I would like to see some deep balls thrown to spread the field but get comfortable find some comfortable plays and hit those short to more intermediate type throws to really really threat in the defense right in kuy's defense they they you know put up uh they gave up zero points to Southern Miss last week they only played three quarters I think because weather made them made him call the game but in three quarters they had two interceptions off of Tate rodmaker the old FL State quarterback so they forced interceptions again only three-ish quarters but you can bet UK is going to try to KY is going to try to force interceptions from Lenor so right it just comes back to sell's Improvement like he didn't look comfortable with his receivers they weren't the same page but at the same time it was week one so I think you have to have some Grace and allow for some development to happen right so that's the biggest theme I want to see from sellers is development let's just see development in week two if you see some development you should be in the game when the fourth quarter comes along right development taking care of the football all right Brock Vandergriff again a quarterback in a similar situation as Lenoris Sellers and again if you have any any thoughts or or comments Lesnar your thoughts on the comments here in the chat we'll try to get to but Brock Vandergriff Kentucky quarterback I thought he showed enough to have some Kentucky fans or have Kentucky fans excited I thought he showed enough to to have Kentucky fans thinking that the passing game is going to be improved from last year when they had Devin ly right so the positive takeaways was he showed his legs he showed his athleticism not just running the ball but maneuvering the pocket moving the pocket setting up throws to take some shots downfield he settled in nicely after missing some throws having an interception early I believe he settled in nicely and showed excuse me showed some good things right so even with that said and then they played s Miss who who's a better ball club they're probably a similar ball Club to ODU right let's be honest but still he had success but now it's your first full game against against the SEC defense right I think for Kentucky to have that continued success you need him to be comfortable and almost be in quote unquote mid-season form for South Carolina coming in because even though ky's a 10-point favorite right now it's just so early in the season still right but I think for Kentucky to have the hand to have the advantage you want to see Brock in midseason form per se so let's talk about what we want to see him do right CU he was 128 for a buck 69 three Tes and one interception again the game was called short but something he did well on was pushing the ball downfield off play action he was much more comfortable off play action which is which is common for a quarterback especially breaking him in trying to get him to feel comfortable but he was five of eight for a buck5 three Tes I'm sorry one touchdown off play action but his yards per attempt were 13.1 yards per attempt not using play action was 5.1 so almost more than two times kind of pushing three times a yards per T which again it's more common to have your deep throws off play action get the defense out of position but that's still a big variance right so if I'm South Carolina if I see him drop back I'm not that scared of the deep ball right now if I see him go off play action that's when I'm thinking hey that's where he's comfortable pushing the ball down field so that's what I'm going to start doing right he now BR Brock still had five passes behind the line of scrimmage that were completed so five of his 12 completions were behind the line of scrimmage right so I'm not saying if if it's it's bad to have those short completions I think it's good I think to get settled in I would still encourage Brock if I'm the OC for Kentucky still encourage those type of plays right get screens to get comfortable I would use screens and use his legs to slow down the potential pass rush which South Carolina's defense did show against ODU and we'll get to that in a second but I would use those two type of plays to slow down the pass rush right so Vandergriff showed enough to be excited for last week but you want to see it against the SEC defense and we want to see him stay comfortable play action but can he continue to develop without the use of play action use the screens to get comfortable use his legs to get comfortable early in the game and slow down South Carolina's pass defense because their pass defense they dominate ODU they forced several big turnovers they had the interception off Grant Wilson and also they forced a big fumble inside their own five yard line that led to a touchdown they had 25 pressures on ODU right so I don't even know what Grant Wilson the ODU quarterback stats were but 25 pressures eight sack six hits 11 hurries they dominated at least South Carina's defense dominated odu's offense now South Carina's offense different story we get that we talked about that but their defense showed a lot of things to be excited about if you're a South Carolina fan so my question about the defense is is a defense is a defense really as good as was showed against ODU or was it just grant Wilson ODU not being great and having these kind of like these kind of like what are you doing type plays right probably a little bit of both but still if you're South Carolina you you you hang your hat on the defense at least coming into to this game right so Brock Vandergriff Lenor sers while they had different games in week one I still think both of them are in the same boat as far as development let's continue to develop even though sellers did not have a great start by any means if he develops in week two that could really help them not just in week two but the whole season and if you're a Kentucky fan Brock Vandergriff you still want to see development right especially going up against a defense like South Carolina showed in week one actually those are the four big games right Texas Michigan Oklahoma State Arkansas Tennessee NC State and South Carolina against Kentucky the first SEC Game of the Year few few other close games that I want to talk about or actually we're goingon to hit every game but two other games that aren't maybe big game category but for their fan base these are big games and it's Mississippi State against Arizona State right now their six and a half Point underdogs Mississippi state is at Arizona State if I'm not mistaken let's talk about Blake shapen because I think Blake shapen it was against the FCS opponent but still he looked good passing he he led the team in running last week right so I think it was a good start it has enough to be excited about I think both teams though we still don't know what to expect so I think after this week Blake shapen Mississippi State the offense I think we'll learn a lot about them from playing Arizona State right so again they could be improved the six and half Point underdogs but we won't know a lot about them until after this game I think we have a better idea of what they are moving for right number two in this kind of close game category Auburn and Cal right now Auburn is a they start off as 10o favorites 10 and a half Point favorites now they're about 13 13 and a half depending where you get it at and Cal did not look good versus their FCS opponent last week now Auburn and paint Thorne they look really good against Alabama A&M right but this is their first real test so can Thorne show some consistency and last week he had a quarter of all his passing touchdowns from last season he had a quarter of in one game right he had 16 touchdowns through the air last year he had four this past week right now last year he only had 94 yards passing against against Cal right so what do you want to see from Thorne well use your white outs they've been talked about all off season they're supposed to be some of the best in the SEC and supposed to really have a big Improvement so use your white outs and you want to see more in the passing game than in his legs I think Cal knows now that he can use his legs even though he didn't use his legs a bunch last year against them but overall last season he did so now you're going have to beat them with your arm that was close game last year if you're an Auburn fan you hope they win by two touchdowns to feel good about yourself right but regardless as it relates to Payton Thorn you want to see Next Step improvements with his arm all right so few categories we hit on real quick uh this next one is should win easy and then the other one is the easy games verse the FCS but this next opponent we got or this next category we got four four games we got Miss versus Mid Tennessee State midd Tennessee State barely beat Tennessee Tech 3225 if you're Jackson Dart just stay healthy and do what you did against Ferman right get out by the second half sometime number two Alabama against USF similar comparison to Western Kentucky now I like us usf's quarterback a lot Bron Brown and last year we know it was a little hairy against USF but jayen Miller didn't play that game right so what do you want to see this week well I want to see Bama dominate without needing big plays just dominate the offense without needing big plays and do what you did against Western Kentucky now I do think USF is is going to be a tougher challenge because of their quarterback but you should still win handily all right number three missou against Buffalo again that's a step up from Murray State but still another warm-up game if I'm BR cook you still want to not have to show much to beat Buffalo number four Oklahoma State or Oklahoma against ufh Jackson Arnold look U ofh did not look good so an Arnold and U Crush Temple um uvh is better than Temple but uvh should not look good against UNLV they got crushed last week I think it was 24 to7 something like that against UNLV so if you're Oklahoma if you're Jackson Arnold you want to win without having to show too much all right last category all easy games don't blow it if you are one of these SEC teams but still what's something you want to see so A&M Conor wigman against MCN gain some confidence back we need a gain you need to gain some confidence back feel good about yourself number two LSU Nichols if you're nus don't show too much get your backups in early hopefully against Nichols number three Georgia against Tennessee Tech really no real takeaway here if I'm Carson Beck just be healthy hopefully you don't have to throw a bunch and y'all come out and you're in the second half you're on the bench watching vand against alorn state if if you're Diego Pavia avoid any drop off I'm all in I'm Pavia I think he's a dead but you want to avoid any drop off you want to avoid any potential upset right don't buy to the hype just keep chugging along then Florida verse Samford is gr merch healthy I don't know yet right is it going to be merch or lagway I really don't know the program's a mess right now I get it but regardless who's that quarterback regardless what the health is as a team you need some confidence so hopefully this is a confidence game for Florida all right SEC fans again if you made it this long you're true SEC junkie true cback junkie no comments that we've had we're kind of a small live show but we put out a lot
