it was an image that had the world in disbelief man a 23 Story Tower Block in the heart of London Ablaze with residents trapped inside anybody who is speaking to in the building they need to ring 999 72 people including 18 children died in the grenfell tower disaster combustible cladding responsible for the fire's rapid spread the simple truth is that the deaths that occurred were all avoidable and those who lived in the tower were badly failed over a number of years seven years later an inquiry has concluded years of government and Industry failures turned grenfell into a death trap it found the company that made the cladding on the tower deliberately concealed safety risks and that successive governments failed to act on known risks to high-rise buildings the report also found firefighters who attempted to tackle the blaze hadn't been properly trained I want to start with an apology on behalf of the British state to each and every one of you and indeed to all of the families the public inquiry has laid bare the dishonesty incompetence and greed behind the tragedy but for the relatives of victims the wait for justice drags on a separate criminal investigation is ongoing and it may be years before any potential charges are laid and that's Kad Maran T's aunt and cousin were killed in the fire I Believe In Justice I want someone to pay for the death of my aunt and my cousin someone needs to be taken to court and face Us in London alone there are more than a thousand buildings that aren't fire safe survivors and relatives of grenfell victims are hoping it doesn't take another tragedy to Spur action Michelle rimmer ABC News London
