Chris Christie is here and Donna Brazil down in Philadelphia welcome to you both Chris let me begin with you you've debated Donald Trump several times what did you make of last night you know it was it it was an incredibly typical performance on his part when he's unprepared now you know I ran his debate prep in 2016 to 2020 and it was always a wrestling match George to try to get him to focus to try to get him to to stay disciplined and it really was like a boxing match between us in prep it's clear he didn't have anybody who would smack him around during prep this time cuz he went out there and just did whatever the heck he wanted straight from his instincts and his gut which is to be angry and a grievance candidate and the amazing thing was for me is that it's clear vice president Harris spent a lot of time preparing and she very defly put in a whole bunch of bait and every time she threw the bait out he chased every rabbit down every hole whether it was about rallies whether it was about people eating pets um in neighborhoods all these different crazy stories and look I think what people her goal last night for the people that she was talking to was to look like she belonged up there you know she is a very lesser known candidate than Donald Trump and so she did it she accomplished what she needed to accomplish and he helped her Donna it did seem like KLA Harris was executing a strategy almost to the script absolutely George and first of all I want to say I'm in Washington DC but my heart I'm sure like Robin and many others is down on the GF Coast in Louisiana so there was no question that there was one person who showed up as the next president that was KLA Harris she had a solid performance George we knew that she had to go in there and introduce herself to the American people she also had to lay out some fundamental issues and vision that she has for the country but she owned the moment from that handshake uh she didn't uh allow Donald Trump to get under her skin instead he took the bait um she was solid and and basically talking to the American people she wasn't sidetracked by his taunts or his Rants and so I think this gave the vice president an opportunity to once again go out there and continue to tell hardworking Americans how she's going to lower cause protect the country and also uh ensure that every everybody in this country feels that we belong here that she can unite us and that she can keep America stronger again Chris the first initial poll showed that most people watching believe that kamla Harris won uh the debate last night but how significant is it to the race nothing seems to move the polls that much it's along the margins George as you know look what are we talking about here we're talking about 7 to 10% of the voters in six or seven states everybody else has decided now that means a marginal change in those voters is significant we know how close these last two races were in 16 and 20 and we us supect this one will be just as close so I think it I think it is important but I I think the other thing I'd say to Vice president Harris is it was a good performance it wasn't a great or perfect performance and if she decides to debate again if they decide she say she wants to it's you think president Trump will um I think he may have to George because in the aftermath of this he's going to have to show that he's got his wits about him um if if I were her I wouldn't be so sure I would do it you know when you knock out the the the defending champ um and he wants a rematch maybe I'll fight four or five other people before I fight you um before I go into the ring again with him but that's going to be her call I think the more important thing is she's got to own some of the mistakes of the Biden Administration and say this is the way I'm going to move on from it she didn't answer about Afghanistan last night she didn't answer about the border and she got away with it because he was so unhinged now if he comes back with a more disciplined approach she's going to have to answer that by the way and I said this in the New York Times yesterday there's nothing wrong admitting when mistakes were made the American people understand that and they'll respect you for it everyone who watched the withdraw from Afghanistan knows it was a mistake the way it was done everyone who watches what's gone on on the border and what's changed since they got tougher knows that their earlier approach was a mistake she wasn't in charge it was Joe Biden who was making those decisions so she should just say look it was a mistake I own it and I Know I Can Do Better Donna does k Harris need to show more separation from Joe Biden I hope she doesn't try to separate herself from the policies that really enable the American people to get back on their feet there's a lot more that she can do and the country needs to do but let me just tell you this last night tonight once again she had a vision she even defended our our basic freedoms she didn't have to go in there and do tit fortat she had to go in there and say look I'm ready to outline a vision I have a plan and I want to move this country forward she did that look I want to quote Taylor one of Taylor Swift's uh great songs I'm a Swifty Donald Trump is going to have a hard time shaking off that debate performance hard time
