police have laid murder charges in the death of a Japanese national in Chinatown last week 32-year-old Timothy isborn was arrested on the downtown east side Monday afternoon after a 6-day investigation into the death of wataru kakiuchi we don't believe uh they knew each other um prior to the murder um however we're still um working to determine what the specific motive was and we have not determined that yet isborn faces second degree murder charges police say he was arrested after Patrol officers recognized the man near Maine and East cardova streets around 3 in the afternoon evidence that we obtained particularly video evidence pictures of the suspect as well as information from the public um was integral in us being able to locate and arrest the suspect as quickly as we did police say isborn doesn't have a known address but has been living in Vancouver for a few years before that he was living in Alberta kakiuchi was found early Wednesday near Maine and Union streets in China town he died on the scene well this was an ABS the absolutely the highest priority investigation for The Vancouver Police Department kakiuchi was living in Burnaby and have been working as a chef at a Yale toown restaurant it was closed the day after his death co-workers held a vigil for him that evening this was absolutely the highest priority for us and we're pleased that we were able to make this arrest quickly to identify the suspect to take him into custody and hopefully to restore some comfort and sense of safety in a community that was very rightly on edge isborn remains in custody in Vancouver Jack Mor City news
