hello everyone we will wait a little bit till Samantha kinghorn is joining us I'm happy to to host the second real a passion for Paralympics really last week I was the one who have been interviewed by Zeynep a letter B from Dubai this week I will interview samantha Kinghorn and I'm really impressed about Samantha kinghorn she is a great great role model and yeah I don't want to say too much about her because she can introduce herself I'm really happy to talk to her there like I said she is a wheelchair user but before I say too much let's see if she's already online and then we will start wait - first Instagram life yes thank you very much for joining us today Instagram like I said to the audience like I'm not going to be three because I think there is women's we will talk more than one hour just introducing what's the result of your career about your life and I'm really happy to talk with you and please introduce yourself tell us who you are and yeah then we'll start talking with each other okay quite impressive career for that young age you have lots of things coming up in the future what's your family background when I was talking you through Instagram and Facebook your home page I realized he loves what he does I can imagine fighting with your brother and keeping your motivation or winning spirit let's talk about came a wheelchair race what happened to you [Music] I went on that track and tried will Teresa it was a tiny bridge Thompson's husband actually seen me and he said you could and I was just like well okay and that's pretty cool and so I just after that was like okay that's something I want to try something I really want to do and it sounds really excited by that okay who was the one who was seeing you - who was the one who was motivating you and the first of all was a tonic same time take one Danny tanni grey-thompson husband was the first time I met that was just kinda like no this is something and obviously I'd already when I stood that possible I've researched every you know Paralympian known to man sigh I knew all my Patty and and their family and things so that was incredible to see that okay tiny great Tom's I'm a big big athlete in the Paris sports I think when I was going through your like your Instagram and every your website you mentioned her as one of the motivational person in your career and right now you you you are one of the most motivational person in our power sports movements for wheelchair driving and racing and for me it's like incredible to talk to someone who is like every picture I saw your Instagram was like always smiling always happy how you do this it's definitely I'll always like that I'm definitely sometimes oh I think I I'm preparin and so when I'm in a good mood I'm like I'm in a really good mood and I'm very folksy and Oh glad about it I think I was just in a house like screaming and singing and but that's trying to watch television and I'm just like writing about how screaming and obviously there is some times where it's like you're you're law and you're back smiley but I love my sport and I love that it was brought to me so you know I mean very very nervous before anything when I send in the pole room it's the worst feeling in the world the first time coming out gracefully I'm just gonna keep straight face I'm just gonna stay in this or I'm not gonna smile and I remember hearing the cry it's hard not to smile when you're living such an amazing life oh that's that's amazing words from you and I I like I know that right now every one of us we like going through this situation right now I think you're one of the greatest role models you see smiling and motivating us and I know you're holding lots of motivational speeches and and on your home page you're telling that you like especially the ones in the primary school why I just I love the questions they come out with you know there's no with adults and I worried that sometimes they need they just assume what I can and can't do whereas a child will just come out and ask you you know I've had so many children they've just been like why you know just like so you can't walk and I might know right so and I really appreciate that and I don't think I think it's really wrong that 14 years old I didn't realize that you know when I shop and often have children come up and ask me if not then I worry that you know they'll get older and they're not a star human why I can't do anything for myself and I need help all the time Bruce if they learn from a young age and disability isn't anything that needs any components anyone else yeah I can feel what you're saying every time I same as me every time I go to primary school I really love the questions I really love the way honest they are I know there was a time in my life I don't know if it was in your life as well I had a time being in school and where kids were cue honest you know what I mean yeah can you explain about your experience with that or how was that how you managed that I think when you when you explain that to us people can can get motivated from there as well how you handle that situation people are honesty yeah so I've had I have did the craziest thing sex me school wasn't it wasn't too bad I'll say I was 14 years old and so everyone knew me at school and start with I didn't want to go back to my old school when I first went max and I was like no I don't want people see me like this this is what one and and then one of my friends was literally just like no like you're coming back to school let you're coming back and remember the first time going in everyone was just staring at me and everyone like walking like if they touched me they might catch it or just like very scared to say anything more in so that and then after a year actually a few months we're very used to me and asked me for a shot in my chair it did become very normal but I have them no time my people calls me in the middle looks like a suit shop and be like oh gosh I would want to learn the facts like you good gosh how can you be so smiley when you like people just like wow how do you do confident just coming out and saying something like that to someone but I just kind of say well you know it could be a lot worse so I'm actually oh that's amazing what he's saying and I'm I I had the same situation I was and especially often are the adults that coming along with with stupid questions when kids coming to you and asking you something and they're often the parents are the ones who trying to take the kids away I think the Paris boards already changed a lot in the society and I hope that we are going to change more than we already did and therefore we doing what we're doing and I would love to hear something about your power sports career when did you start - oh I know that you after you met tiny great Tom's and you already know okay I will do wheelchair racing or was it did you directly know that you will do wheelchair racing or you will think about other sports maybe wheelchair basketball or I am know like I see wheelchair recent act like that weekend I tried everything like type of parasport and but it was just something about the way that you could design the research area about his classes going I think one of the main things was that I've seen that a girl who should read the track and she was overtaking runners okay and I remember just might be better than I was before we design it and specialize to you was something that really really drew me in and I remember coming home and just be like right mom dad this is what I'm gonna do and I searched dad watched every shape in London was so the year I got my first ever recent year was 2012 okay I put my recent chair in 2012 and and I done London mini marathon in 2012 this is my first ever race which was amazing lately the crimes as well that come out for just American in the morning take part of that I think I've just had very been very lucky in all my steps you know that where I entered and then I went to watch London London Paralympics which also just drew me in so much watching David Weir and watching Hannah cut off to just be like wow they're they're incredible and they're in my country they're doing it in my country that's amazing and I was just completely inspired to I just want you to take off and Tina seriously oh wow hey you see my hands are shaking because London 2012 for me I remember I hate the Q hundred you know because I hate the curve I I don't know how you wheelchair racers are doing 100 200 400 800 moretz everything I don't know like how can you do that I think I was trying talking but it's it's more like cycling than it is running or anything because obviously we don't get as much obviously you get from the track if something goes up through joints where the tear takes on most of it before it comes up through your joint so that's why you can go Friday through the days and obviously training you know you don't often get someone that's the best that 100 and best that marathan there does need to be some sort of leeway between them but because our chair once we got to speed it's easier to keep up sweet and so it's not as you know that's why you can go them for their differences but I'm definitely not I will be eventually I also like I had this discussion with my coach always he was telling me I'm a good chanted meter runner but when your mindset is not into it no way and the way how are you talking the way the energy it's like you're so energetic like you full of passion you full of power no you sprinter you're not along too many things okay yeah but it was and then the whole way I was trying to originals are in my head because I was just distracted although they're pulling away you need to chase them chase that there's no piece of art just I'm not we had a mess a beer do you had a map with you during the marathon like where's the best building every day again there's bands so then I would sing the songs that Weber band was playing until it's the next one and then I'd sing that one and then I do the next one so find out just a good way to mind the pain that was like he just end if not you end up looking down you bring like I'm only John eight my loss oh my goodness so far to go yet you know I tell you something I tell you something I've like I had the same situation London 2012 when I was running the two hundred I was so scared of the two hundred because I was ready for the hundred and my coach told me if I'm too scared I should stop and then I was running the first hundred meter I the curve was like really hard for me but then you know what happened then Richard white head starts to get faster and I can feel the stadium like something's going on I didn't know what's going on and normally I told myself okay if the hundred meters the first hundred meters too hard I will stop because I have to get ready for the hundred I have to be like I have to I need my energy for the hundred later yeah but then the second hundred meters just because of Richard and the stadium I finished with the PB and I don't know how I did it and yeah I think that's a nice way you did like doing the marathon and enjoying that's what you do yeah that's yet but my 200 and in London at the world champs was exactly the same I remember bein oh my goodness that still seems like a very long way away and then just hearing the crowd erupted like I was in front it just like you don't you don't even think about you just go okay go faster go faster but the crowd just erupt and you're like okay just go faster just go faster yeah that's crazy we need to enjoy what we do yeah definitely that's the biggest thing that my dad's ever taught me because he he loves his job so he always said like whenever I was you know when I was a little girl that always say you know life could be very long and life can be very short suspend make sure you spend that time doing something that you really enjoy it training is something I really enjoy so I love your words training you said training how do you train right now I can't I can't see something in the background there's my ways yeah wait yeah so I am luckily a few before I moved on my dad i Jim in the garage so I gym all our memories and share things as well and we've got a nice line stretching moved outside the house on the finals and I can train on so it's a lot easier just now lucky considering you know a lot of people aren't as lucky to have to get out and train at all many so at least I can still continue to do something okay are you still in your full training program like 12 sessions per week you doing yes twice a day six days a week oh okay I was one of the lazy ones but training you do like is it is it difference you to sprint a runner or you have to do wait I can see yeah you have can you yeah I do I do gym three times a week I now have two sessions that just cheer like and strength sessions and then I have a session that's more power okay a little bit faster and then I have two sessions a week are just like easy rules so like a forty minute easy push kind of thing on my recent chair and if the rest of the sessions will be like sprints parents rulers friends yeah trying to do it faster Aslam I saw some training sessions with your mom yeah harder than I saw her I'm like okay my coach was more relaxed than she's saying yeah she's going fast yeah my mom's like she's very she's good she's so funny she's like my mom honestly I don't think she actually cares whether I win or lose like I don't think she cares like she's all really like she was like did you have a good time did you enjoy it and I'm like yeah and she's like that's right and then she doesn't do not overly like my dad's a little bit more competitive he's like you wants to see me when the bald medals and he wants to see me up in the podium where mom's just like did you have fun yeah like she gets really annoyed if she sees me not doing my best she'll be like I seen you slow down so when I when I first started sport and I just always slow down from the finish line and it was my mom that lowest and she came up to me and she's like why are you slowing down and I remember like I was so scared that I tried my very very best it was enough so I would like well I can struggle faster and which is a really weird way to think about it but that was right inside and my mom was like don't be so ridiculous like as long as you never give up then you will never fail and I think she's always the one who the BDI like full time I see - trainee mom it doesn't like sport metal so the amount of times that can say tracks freezin cold water that lasts about which is it's really nice and someone's doing something purely because their love for you is more than you know enjoyment over the house oh wow I love I really love the team Qinghong it's like it's I can't see now why you're always smiling and I really love the way you do your sports and training and the team behind you I think this is the most necessary thing that we need like people who believes in you I was always struggling when people were telling me you can't do this and you can't do that yes that I think one of my reason was that that was one of my reasons to start doing sport like to show what I'm able to do was it same with you yeah it like massively I think him after my accident I was so scared that people were gonna pick me or feel sorry for me and I never ever wanted that I would know wow she's not blessed you remember when she had that accident shame she can't walk or you know it's just I wanted people to be really proud of what I've achieved and I think it sport is a massively specialist:what just to but almost you know make yourself proud and prove to yourself and everyone else you know just because I can't walk doesn't mean that I can't go as fast as your I can't go faster than and everywhere else I mean I've had trained as hard and doing just as hard as a corner full way of showing it yeah true and you were talking about like before you were talking about you're the reason why you start wheelchair racing was you liked how to design the wheelchair like is it is it are you doing it by your own are you into techniques are you into though like because I really love to hear that I was always into my leg like always every time something was going on and I didn't like to Train I my legs was often the reason to apologize you know because I was looking for time to play around with my leg and you said the same is it is it are you doing the same or what are you doing with your wheelchair yeah my computer or my chair Brahma can probably absolutely hate me because I'm like I'm down there all the time when they're building me a new chair I it's like it's like wearing a pair of shoes I don't want it rub it anywhere you know I want to be you know how I like it it as I've gone through the journey I become far more aware I have to eat the biggest thing was after real after my first Paralympics I remember just watching the day I am watching the Bruce's back and just be like right I know know exactly what I need a memory center and I think that's why I made from from real to London my start was part I needed more because you with the aerodynamics we're hitting me and I went down does it this is what I need my first race of the season and I far more aware it's something you know I don't want to blame anyone else if my chair is yes it can be it's my responsibility that I have on my company makes your basis I got to have you know you've got to have an understanding in your racing chair you've got to love it because it's and yeah keep a great a great interest in making sure that it's perfect for me is that the reason why it's pink yeah oh my girl the picture like remember my name how's that we remember the chair then you know people might start watching it because of but the design mightier that's every time I go down and my tears been slowly designed it's now coming to this brain and they're literally like oh my god what color are you gonna want it and they degrade it alike I bought all the cheers Cheers and they're all different designer plate I like it when it's like feed it into pink it's just my own way off to a micro stallion and making it sound out and also to be girly Oh L open a farm and I've been covered in poop on I say but you said something lamps in your bio about me on your homepage you saying you love a special time outside of your sporting life which time is it yes Springs I love lambing season is it yeah when I was a little girl I used to take time off school to do the night latin for my dad so I mean one of my friends would stay up all night and do the night long and so my dad could sleep overnight and then do the whole day I'm saying to do that all night and I I was I saw the pictures on your Instagram everyone should go and follow you and see the pictures lovely yeah I have so I when I was younger I was going to the pet lab and my dad would never give me one because obviously the 90 and wow that schooling say I'm not you're not getting along it and then I moved away from home you know pretty much after I was finished school so since I've been called in lockdown for a ride I've got a little and who honestly believes under mum and she gets very upset I'm not fully worked-out if it's me or the chair she knows yet but she come straight to me and and yeah tonight dude love sex I cried so yeah you're taking responsibility everywhere yeah yeah you know I've always wanted and like a small mentorship and when I get that all died like a little small so hopefully she'll have a room lands in a couple years time nice eh what's her name Ruby Ruby Ruby nice I saw today in your story that ruby was running around and playing around nice talking about your responsibilities I know the are part of boorda's children's charity like you said before you really like I love to have all the motivational speeches in a primary school because children's are important what are you doing with the bonus children's charity I mostly just do the name for people for you know on the banners and just that's fine promote the charity in I remember the first time than they asked me to be a part of it and a small area I'm trying to squash borders and and you don't think about the people that are struggling in life and especially when you're living your own life other children know when I was younger it was Christmas Day and I went to meetings when they first asked me to be you know to be a patron Qatar either I had an exec to some of the requests that children were asking for and they were like pajamas or cartoons in their in their bedrooms because the lightweights from up in the early morning or Matros people in my area know it's something I want to give money to because no child should ever have to suffer it's never their fault if they can be happy it was something that I felt was very important to be a part of like I said in the beginning you are a great great role model we really like those kind of athletes like you are in our in the Paralympic sports like we can't get enough of them and thank you for for the whole work you're doing and I can't imagine like I still can't do the whole interview we're doing you but are you smiling the whole interview just like enjoying and I think in those times like we have right now it's it's really it's really tough to to stay positive and yeah I just want to know what kind of like you're holding one world record three four European records you did right Rio 2016 Tokyo 2020 shouldn't be the next should be the next competition but as far as I know you now I know that you will be ready 2021 for Tokyo 2020 I'm I'm pretty sure that you will show the world what you're able to do but how what is your goal what is what what what what do you love to achieve in the future I what's next on me there's no question what's next on me what's next I want to be the fastest in the world where participants know I want to be faster than anyone else that's that's cool you would be doing your sport if you don't wanna be the fastest in the world I would I would love to be the first person in my classification to go under a sixty second barrier 100 meters that's you know that be an incredible thing to do it's we're close and you know the world record just nine is 1699 1621 you know we're really close and we really get in there and I really believe that us girls can start pushing that barrier I'm sorry something that you're really amazing today um yeah I just I want to win a Paralympic medal and a that's that's okay I'm pretty sure you will do it 800 is really pushing it for me and it's not something I'm very confident and it's something I want to be more hosted in the future but well spec to one tune for just now and then a shot in the dark a hundred it's one day okay and then what else after that what out of what are you going to do like did you see where did you see yourself in the future after sports you have some like we are talking and I'm pretty sure you already have a plan for after the sports because you're really like that happened and I did this this happen and I did this like your life is full of you have a plan for everything what's your plan for for the career after the sports you definitely need to stay in the sport don't ya I think you probably speak to any Paralympian they say you know broadcasting something like that obviously be incredible to get into I just I just want to be complete say to motorsport I wanna make expect excited as I am about our sport and you know to work for charter floors would be incredible I just I love my sport and I know I speak to people and really watch our sport they're always like wow that's really incredible I'd definitely watch ok it's just getting people interested at the start I saw I think that's something that I would be really motivated to be a part of I really want to continue motivational speaking I love for it to be something that kids have to learn about disability sport well they were disability rather it's real not just disability sport but I think that would be something really powerful of kicks but that is the next generation and that's people that we want to start watching parasport so if we don't introduce them to disability while they're young they're not gonna watch Paris sport so I think that's something that needs to be a part of their curriculum while they're at school see how many thumbs up is coming like oh perfect the hearts are flying Instagram life yeah it's unbelievable like you you you we definitely need to stay together like as we're always talking about the Paralympics family and see I'm one of the under I'm one of the athletes who already retired and I'm happy about the Hat but I still feel what you're seeing and what are you saying and I still feel like the passion every para sports athlete has and talking about disability do you have anything you can't do because I was reading on your home page that you're never looking back can't do no I missed something there's fun it's funny you know maybe a couple years ago there would have been things that I thought were far for hard for me to achieve now and so after I call my games that is a mystical traveling with one of my friends and it was something that I wanted to do before Maxie I thought after max to do it one of my friends my friends are incredible they've never ever you know like restaurants but never ask if it's accessible and will turn off with number like for two steps and the black will get all my friends are like that and the girl that I went travelling with it was the one thing that age to struggle with was I was getting barristers help and like asking for help really really shy and embarrassed if someone had to you know help me up some steps or help me and then while it was in Australia Mountains and I wanted to go and see I okay but it was Pat a lot of stairs and I was just like no it's fine like I just yeah yeah and my friend was just like no you deserve to see everything just like everyone else does she was like I'll give you back here you know help sex and I was just there and she was like I'll stay for a minute and then they'll forget all about it it's not it's not like people and I think that's what I had to understand was that they're going to continue to think about some I do tend to just know swallow a bit of pride and just like and so you know I'll be travelling stir the masses of stairs and never thought comfortable about doing before oh yeah you can about things oh great yeah always believe in what you're doing and always keep always have people around you who believe in yourself as well like it's unbelievable let's let's try to go through some questions if there are some questions that you saw some questions maybe if maybe there is someone who's like because we coming to the end and let's have a look on some questions tea drinking is really important as Natalie yeah there's only some smart some hearts and everything is like full of thumbs up and hearts and smileys there's someone from Russia is writing pre-vet like means hello you know someone here who is in the chat who knows you is there any questions maybe maybe you can go through like there's someone who says like gorgeous and fast yeah that's what's next to me we already answered the question what about foxy in the box you know him no okay what about your rivals that's the question like them or you hate them motivation would like yeah I think I am I'm like an out of chatter as you can probably tell so like in the cold room because I get so nervous I wanna I'm gonna chat and I remember a hacker and we're like every other before and really it was all quite small competitions I've done and and so everyone was preached at to you and everyone's and I remember going to Rio and then going into the coal room and no one was chatting and just being like why why is it something so serious oh yeah it's a big deal okay so this is very serious thing they don't want to talk to me I would not expect it that someone of your rivals couldn't get along with you because like the way how you like the way how you are like you don't want to take something away from someone without fighting for that and that's something like yeah you know who who deserves the medals and you know who deserves the winning something and this is quite quite interesting and you know what's funny I was the same the competition I ran my world record I was talking to the people I was talking to the crowd and then my coach came up to me and he said like I don't like the the preparing of yourself what what's going on with you why you're not preparing yourself you have to you have to warm up you have to get yourself concentrating into for the competition and he was so angry about me and he went away and he said like no I'm not going to watch that competition and I was also like some it was 20 minutes before my competition and then I went into the competition and I was also angry about the reaction of my coach and then I ran and I didn't even look on the time and then turn around up because the speaking person of the saying he said like oh that's world record I'm like no that's not and I was I was talking a lot even like you saying in the cold room like every time when no one was talking I was really really nervous yeah I find it it's just easier cuz I get so nervous I like I don't sleep the night before I'm sick and like I know I'm nice throwing up close before the ranks so like my coach is quite nice you're just like I don't like to talk about race Papa now so he's like so what's your favorite color and like ask me questions try to take your mind off of it because I'm just like why am I doing this why why am I doing this and you go in and it's like oh I paint it terrifying I heard it's terrifying and totally done goes like I'm on the start line damn light feels like I've been healed it's out of my mouth and everything so dry then the gun goes nothing to race I'm like that's the best thing it was the best thing I've ever done my life I yeah I get very nervous beforehand so sorry Wes I'm like I just like students kind of distract myself and not really think about attacking look yeah I think like becoming nervous or being nervous make gives you small power energy yeah dead late I think I always tell myself is because because it kid because I care it's because it matters what I do that's why that's why I'm trying and that's why I feel second that's why I'm nervous I care about that coming here whether I do well or whether I do it so that's what kind of time with me since I feel better since then just being sick all that nice there was a question you talked to to your competitors during marathon yeah yeah you do and the first time I done it it was in Chicago and I had a mass in to qualify for a Commonwealth Games and the qualifier Sandi's was to two hours and five and I was just kind of aiming for chosen five and then I remember just like a group of girls a little bit further off knowing if I split today and you know I'll be able to and when I go up ten girls they're like one of the girls Susanna and I was just can't wait are we just over in Chicago tell me where I am they'll get really angry people do iron or take the front and then they'll just tell them right return to the front mr. terms the back like you kind of do a lot of moving and and people do talk and take control and yeah you just got to watch the people are talking between each other and right you're like oh no or they're gonna make a move and I'm gonna have to try and cover them and go with them or well okay then another question what was very in Australia the bungee jumping or the skydive you did both yeah okay you crazy yeah okay my dad my dad honestly says every birthday he's like we're just happy that Smith has got to 24 years old or like Nick's birthday Mike we're just happy because I hurt myself daily like I genuinely like my dad running talking I found that like I'm lucky I forgot to a14 because I am the worst I burnt myself the other day I burnt myself yesterday on the barbecue I am always dropping things and actually I think of my notes to cut something it was like oh no oh no yeah the sky dive was incredible and like that was enjoyed that more because the bunch of you had to like throw yourself over the edge okay and I'm just like sitting in my legs were like blowing in the wind and I remember it's like watching my legs thanks Gary this skydive was yeah okay seeing you talking about that I think I need to try that as well is amazing amazing maybe one day I don't know I don't want to say something wrong in that said what is your message to fellow athletes in these testing times I think it's just stay focused on what your end goal is I don't think it matters what you're talking is what is your role in this work and just continue to strive for that end goal my goal is to win embed lentils so that's why you tried employment oh great do you have any we need to have a look on the time because we were expecting like we on whatever we were talking about let's talk for half an hour now we come in close to one hour and the exam chat will be finished after one hour let's give us a message like what you are what's your advice to the people overcoming different difficult situation in life or motivating themselves as a motivational speaker just give us something someone oh you already gave us the last one our the impression of stay positive and everything but what is some working for you what would you what is your advice to the people out there I think my main thing is that things always get better and I think some people get you get stuck in a rut thinking is this there is this all its ever gonna be life constant peaks and there's always gonna be high times and there's always gonna be a little times and I can't see that the whole kind through there were some things I sat down like why why did this happen to me and in reality I just tomorrow morning I'm still gonna be paralyzed so I need to continue with my life I think that was my biggest message for everyone is just that things get better and things will what and they'll come back down again but it will go up and you can always make small change in your life to be a bit happier and I find
