[Music] what's up today 49ers faithful Drew CER 49ers sports talk with the draft in our rearview mirror I wanted to check out Ricky peera and look at him a little bit more in depth uh check out some of his comps Cooper cup uh puka naua those types of guys Shawn McVey has a similar system as Kyle shanan and we'll talk about that let's in before we get into the numbers let's just take take a look real quickly at some of the media that has proceeded the draft with the 31st pick in the 2024 NFL draft the San Francisco 49ers select Ricky peaw wide receiver Florida so they do take a receiver and it's Ricky peol yeah Ricky peaw is coming off a great year and somebody who also went to the Senior Bowl and showed up down there Charles and I saw him down there Michael Gallop was my comparison route polish and one of the things when you watch him he's so crisp when he gets to the top of his route they appreciate that this is the best catch anybody had all year long this you won't see a better catch than that one to be able to haul that one in tracking the ball again outstanding hands they value that everywhere but especially with Kyle Shanahan can you run through the catch Point can you run clean routes and are you reliable with your hands he's a really good player CD and he be he'll be one of those guys that shows up early stays late hey Ricky this is John lch with the 49ers man we're going to we're going to make you a ner right now okay thank you close appreciate you you get a Workhorse coach all right that's what we want we want a Workhorse I'm gonna put you on with Coach Shan okay here's cop sounds good okay Ricky Ricky congrats man thank you so much coach I appreciate you where you at right now I'm back in AZ right now back at home awesome man you going to be ready to go yes sir more than ready who who you with right now I'm with my whole family mom and dad's side close friends they all excited yes sir well good man we love your style man love how you play hope you're ready to come to work man now it starts thank you so much all right Ricky we'll be in contact man we got us we actually have us a good one all these guys are pretty darn good where and how and will they continue to play the type of football they've been playing in college we don't know but we got some film to tell you about this kid is pretty good well I can tell you you can go ahead and reind it and stop calling him Ricky peera and call him what his real name is Slick Rick is what they call him because he can play outside and inside played at Arizona State watched his game at Arizona State didn't really move the needle for me but when I went back and watched this film I was like hm I like the kid be you know why I like him he gotten better and better each and every year fiveyear player how because of Co that Co year but Ricky is 6 feet 193 lbs expected to run 44 that man ran a [Music] 43 he's running pretty good career high [Music] 65 receptions interesting fun fact as well play with multiple quarterbacks different style of quarterbacks just wanted to take a quick uh snapshot look at piera's college career um he had a lot of uh variables that kind of messed with some of his production but he did manage to have a 2.6 drop rate or 2.6% drop rate which was one of the lowest in college football so he has really sticky hands um last year he had three different quarterbacks technically three uh he did you know two main ones um Graham Merz and Max Brown um and also Michael Leon um in 2022 he had Anthony Richardson which is now the quarterback of the Colts but he only threw for 2500 yards um they ran the ball a ton uh piol only had 33 receptions that year and the leading receiver that year was Xavier Henderson who only had 38 receptions just five more than pi um so it it's kind of a weird offense and uh you know in 2021 another style of quarterback he was the leading receiver that year though with Jane Daniels at the helm he had 48 receptions that year and uh you know throughout his college career he did have five different quarterbacks so that that's pretty challenging in and of itself and he still managed to produce uh 2020 2019 didn't play much uh sophomore and freshman year but he was there when Brandon iek was there Arizona State so he had somebody to live up to uh but he was sort of buried on the depth chart by a lot of players 49ers talk joined by Ricky persol the newest 49er or at least the latest first round draft pick of the 49ers and hey when you're coming up to Santa Clara and you see the signs on the side of the the Levi Stadium like up here did you see him or what do you think no I definitely saw him that's the first thing I saw you know I pointed out right away um it's it it's definitely a surreal moment for me man to see see my picture up there man at a stadium like this and you know a legendary program like this man so I'm super excited to get started and so the part part of the message is welcome to the family so do you already feel part of the 49ers family yeah I feel like every person I've met today I've already met them before you know it's they're really welcoming you know definitely treating like family over here and my family is here actually too so I know I can vouch for them and say the same okay so I want to take you back when did you first realize that this was the sport for you man I'm not going to lie I kept this belief all my life and you know I owe that all to my parents man they instilled that into me at a young age you know just to always believe I started the sport when I was 6 years old man so it's been a long journey for me and my family but you know they never stopped believing so I never stopped believing so The Story Goes that your dad would throw you footballs and if you caught him you'd get a Skittle is this true it's a true story yes I don't remember it specifically but he told me so I got to believe him right so are you still a skittles guy yeah I am yeah I like Skittles I try to stay away from sweets though but you know sometimes I have a little bit of sweets here and there well you talked about the uh your discipline the other day about how you know you're discipline on the field off the field so uh take me through like what makes you disciplined how do you how does that manifest itself yeah man just treating your you know yourself like a pro you know operating like a pro and um that's something that a lot of my coaches you taught me you know throughout my college career you know going through your days and being disciplined with it and having you know a set system that you like to go through each and every day so for me you know I created that myself and you know it's always going to be for different players but that can be from a nutrition side you know taking care of your body maintenance wise and then obviously your football stuff you know watching film and then going out any your practice habit so some of Ricky's uh strengths that that I noticed and some some of the strengths that they listed on NFL's uh website was was similar to what I saw on tape he sinks his hips low to snap off Drive route suddenly he keeps his route Temple Prime through his turns he throws subtle Jab stab steps to leverage Corners off the break point and gets behind him he catches with quiet soft hands to stab Drive throws he adjusts his track and lays out to make the catch he displays ability to throw on Gadget plays while he was at Arizona State so jumping into some of his comps uh I wanted to highlight Cooper cup and puka nikua just because they are in a similar offense that Ricky psaw will be playing in um in the same division with Shawn McVey so you know I just to kind of look at their combine grades coming out and both by the way were worse than Ricky piol uh by a margin we'll take a look here um but before we do that cup did have more College Productions statistically piol had more than AA though um cup also played as ball Eastern Washington it is a D1 school but he the competition isn't as steep you know so he was breaking all sorts of Records there um Big Sky division so you know we do say take some of the production with a grain of salt but he did as a freshman break Randy Moss's record um he wasn't he wasn't lighting it up though you know like in the SEC or the Big 10 or any of those types of Divisions obviously um his production in the NFL speaks loudly uh so just looking at it from a college angle and kind of seeing what angle and what uh trajectory Ricky peol can take so just hopping into it um combine grades you know obviously are just uh athleticism metric an athleticism metric and are by no means a metric of how a player will turn out but athleticism in the right system can be dangerous and so we'll just go ahead and jump in starting with Cooper cup uh his combine grade of was 620 he had a production score of 77 athleticism score of 61 a total score of 76 he ran a 46240 he had a 1.55 split 10 yard split 31in vertical 98 broad jump a 6.75 three cone drill a 4.08 20 yard shuttle and he didn't choose to bench so moving right along to piol he had a combine grade of 6.32 a 69 production score 85 athleticism score and a total score of 78 so 4 Points higher than Cooper cup he did have a 4.41 40 a 1.57 10 yard slit split but I read somewhere that he actually scored a 1.49 I've got to look into that more um but I have been seeing that 1.49 quite a bit which is nuts um he had a 42in vertical uh that's comparable to Dominique Wilkins uh for comparison kobby Bryant had a 38 in vertical so this guy has mad hops he can get up in the air and snatch the ball um you know so Red Zone Target things like that you can throw him a jump ball and he's going to go up and get it um you know Dwight Clark style of DP um so he had a 109 broad jump a 6.64 three cone drill 4.05 20 yard shuttle and he did bench uh 17 reps so moving on to ncua his combine grade was a 5.80 he had a production score of 72 he had an athleticism score of 55 a total score of 65 he didn't produce um any metrics at the combine but he did have a have some numbers at his prod day um here were the numbers a 4.57 40 he had a 101 broad jump broad jump his shuttle was a 4.36 and his three cone drill was a 7 .32 and here's a quick look at some media from all three players [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] mer to Piera What A Catch perfect in the Bread Basket [Applause] s thrown an incompletion yet he's four for four going to the air again that pass is high oh what a onehanded graap byar that does it for today's video please like And subscribe to help promote the channel and uh you know also leave a comment about your thoughts on this year's first round draft pick have a good
