Decades of failures turned grenfell Tower into a death trap in which 72 people lost their lives that's according to the damning final report into the high-rise fire in 2017 survivors and the families of those killed in the disaster have waited 7 years for the results of this inquest hoping for answers as to who may be responsible while the report says that there was no single cause of the tragedy it points to dishonest companies a complacent government and weak or incompetent Regulators which led to the building being covered in combustible cladding the simple truth is that the deaths that occurred were all avoidable and those who lived in the tower were badly failed over a number of years and in a number of different ways by those who were responsible for ensuring the safety of the building and its occupants it also criticized the London fire brigade for a lack of leadership as well as training and Equipment inadequate for dealing with a high-rise fire the combination of all of these turned a small apartment fire into the deadliest blaze in the UK since World War II the tragedy also prompted a national discussion about inequality in Britain the tower was public housing but was in the heart of one of London's wealthiest neighborhoods and victims were largely people of color coming from 23 different countries the Prime Minister has offered an apology to the survivors and the families of those killed and pledged that changes would be made it should never have happened the country failed to discharge its most fundamental duty to protect you and your loved ones the people that we are here to serve and I am deeply sorry police are now investigating dozens of individuals and companies and a considering charges including corporate and individual manslaughter but any prosecutions will take time an action is unlikely to come before 2026
