[Applause] [Music] from Johnson ha stadium in Charleston South Carolina it's College Football on ESPN plus and today it's the home opener for theable dogs as they play host to South Carolina state I'm Dave Weinstein alongside V Lee we'll be joined by asley Clifford on the sideline both teams played tight ones last week the cital one the city champ ship knocking off charlest Southern meanwhile South Carolina state they dropped a heartbreaker at Florida two close games in V you think this will be tight as well yeah here we are at the low last wead [Music] team and for the South Carolina State team this team was up in the fourth quarter with versus a very good football team but couldn't hold on to it so I bet they're biting to get to this game well let's talk players to watch two star quarterbacks that our quarterback will tell you about let's start with South Carolina States Eric Phoenix Eric Phoenix is a guy that has Reed benle played [Music] aame and for the Citadel It's the Return of the hometown hero Jonathan Bennett this guy [Music] and now the third member of our team Angley Clifford for the Citadel the theme this fall Camp was how to achieve and maintain a positive mindset Head Coach Maurice Drayton spoke about how important it was to take the time to develop their mind we really saw this come into play in last week's win over charson Southern he said when they turn the ball over in the fourth quarter there was a look of determination on his sideline he said our guys had faith that we are going to get the ball back and that's exactly what they did and we're able to get the win guys SLE is one and0 after defeating Charleston Southern South Carolina state 0 and one after dropping their opener at Florida A&M South Carolina will get the ball first very dangerous Turner Carter is back joined by Ken High then Barnes kick things off for Richard sophomore from Ohio taking over the season for long time picker KOB hner athletic kicker first team All Conference as linebacker running back an kicker High School coming down to the state from the Buckeye state just ready for action here at Johnson Stadium scho separated by just about 75 miles SLE in South Carolina state barnes's kick will result in a Touchback and South Carolina state will go on offense first yeah it'll be interesting to see what South Carolina starts off with you know in the third quarter of last week's game their offensive line really took over in the r game they some really good things they they have the ability to play in Sp Carolina team here's the keys of the game South Carolina state has to be disciplined they got to have their dog in last week they had penalties they offensive line they're returning three All Conference offens alignment and they got to get going early their quarterback started a little slow last week they got to get going early for the Citadel dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball they need to dominate right and then they also need to take of this [Music] opport and they give is enaj Carter goes around the end and a big pickup on first down V yeah no that's great job with the implement the the emotion on the play South Carolina do a lot of eye candid before the snap and a lot of tent Sidle is familiar with Enos Carter he's a transfer from ETSU soan experience and the give is to DeAndre doart it'll be short of the first down yeah really good job by the Citadel defensive line that was one of the keys of the game they have to dominate the line of scrimmage on the defensive side in order to match up with this big offensive line of South Carolina state it'll be a third down and one for South Carolina state they were three of 10 on third Downs last week at Florida A&M and picking up the first down I believe that's Josh Shaw it is the sophomore from Hanahan South Carolina yeah really good run by Josh sha really great job by the offensive line they they got a really good push on that 31 and those are the type of things that you want to do to make sure that you handle the offensive line of scrimmage and to show that this is going to be a very physical football game DeAndre dart back next to Eric Phoenix South Carolina state much like the Citadel rotate four backs Phoenix set to throw fires and completes Justin Smith Brown senior from Coco Florida yeah it seems like the citel defense was in the cover look that the guy was in the quarters number 31 was was the quarters Def and they were able to theow short pick up second and eight this is toart weaves his way up the middle and he'll pick up the first down for Carolina State really great by I mean South Carolina state are doing what they want to do right now against the Citadel defense they're playing in space they're moving their wide receivers out and and forcing all the Citadel defense to move outside and that creates Lane the once again it's toart he's hammered Thomas Wyatt with the stop for the Citadel Thomas why came down with the boom Thomas W said enough is enough with this run game let's come down with the boom really good tackle fundamental tackle had a team leading nine tackles last week at CSU after finishing second on the team with 61 a season ago Oney pickup second and nine for South Carolina state Speedy Carter at the bottom of your screen Phoenix looks his way and completes I love that call Dave to get the quarterback's confidence going a quick five yard out where no one is the quarterback is taught either you throw it to the receiver or throw it to the sideline bottom line you're going to throw to the sideline so either it's going to be a catch or it's going to be an incomplete pass so those are those are those quarter build especially early on Star to drive off and Phoenix completed just about 50 % last week at Florida A&M he was 12 of 25 and a lot of those came late in the game so it's really good to see him start off early third and four for South Carolina state Phoenix in trouble he escapes the pocket scrambles to his left and completes again this time it's the tight end kesan Tony yeah it's always good to have a good reliable tight end for any quarterback great job by Kean Tony improvising with with his quarterback following along with him and making sure he got the catch really great job by by quarterback penis send cadel sent the blitz on that play and penix was able to get get away KY Adams gets the call and he can't escape the grasp of Jan Roberts who had a monster game last week at CSU eight tackles three for a loss and a sack yeah coach Barry he loves to sub those running backs in keeping those running backs very fresh is is the name of the game so yeah so here we are with a big big second down two backs in the back field here Phoenix trying to set up the screen to KY Adams wellde by The Citadel yeah really great job by Jeremiah Holmes you know Citadel sent the blitz on that play and that's the perfect time to call a screenplay but unfortunately um Jeremiah Holmes for the good for the Citadel unfortunately for South Carolina state Jeremiah holes stayed home no pun intended there's a flag on the play our referee this afternoon is Jake grombach [Music] and a personal foul on the cadel 15 and a first down back yeah you know one of my keys for the game for South Carolina state was to remain discipline you don't expect to get those things from the Citadel personal fouls you can't help out the the South Carolina State offense at all because they already have a good drive going and certainly the Citadel can't help them get closer to the end zone so first and 10 and the handoff is to doart swarm of Bulldogs picks up about four yeah looks like it's outside Zone play to the left that was called with Citadel Bulldogs they were all on it on that play [Music] so second and six for Phoenix and Company it's been a good opening drive so far doart nothing there yeah kind of reminded me of that Friday night NFL football game everybody was slipping all over the field could he missed his foot and we have a little Miss on today but um citadel's defense is here big third down for citadel's defense got to step up to the challenge right here Dave South Carolina state has been able to convert on third down so far this drive a couple of times they bring in DeAndre ruen Carter Kaden high and Justin Smith Brown those are your receivers doart in the backfield Carter in motion Phoenix finds doart out of the back field and he's rocked what a hit from Thomas Wyatt Thomas Wyatt coming down with the boom man really good scheme for the Citadel football team pre snap we seen that they went in but Thomas Wyatt came down they got pressure on the quarterback and that set up Thomas Wyatt for the big boom so it'll be a field goal opportunity now for the Mak rookie of the week Kyle gagos Richard freshman from Fort Worth Texas 31 yard attempt he was two for two last week at Florida A&M hit from gagos is through so a good opening drive vad for South Carolina state they lead three nothing yeah really good drive for South Carolina state offense but you want to finish in the end zone at regardless though they got points on the board and they took a lot of time off the clock I mean we got s minutes and 49 seconds here in in the first quarter they they took a chunk of time off the clock leaving cale's offense on the sideline and they got points out of it you can win games that way South Carolina state put up 18 points last week in the loss at Florida A&M heartbreaking loss that they LED in the fourth quarter against a team that's nationally ranked on the road yeah I mean they was in a hostile environment at fam U nationally ranked FAMU South Carolina really stepped to the challenge and and and I know that they were just wait to get to this game to get that bad taste out of their mouth been up in the fourth quarter they played a really good game but they started off slow and it's good to see that they got points on the board here I'm sure their coaches are excited about getting three points of course want the touchdown but I'm sure their coaches are excited to at least get some points out of the drive no coach Barry said you know played really hard last week just have to find a way to close games put ourselves in position to win the game at the end just didn't find a way to win it he was really proud of their effort said one thing they have to do though this afternoon is bridge the gap between poal and performance there's a lot of potential he said we have to find a way to seal Victory when we smell it when it's right there in Arms Reach yeah I mean first game for Coach Barry first game for the new quarterbacks all the transfers I think they had about 40 transfers addition to their to their roster this year so it was the first game Jitters right um they started slow but really got it going ear um late late in the game but they couldn't just they couldn't just hold on to it and um this game I'm I'm sure they're looking to improve and I'm sure they're looking to mature sure as a football team and conversely coach drton really happy with last week's performance for the Citadel and they had some adverse conditions think about the first half last week lost headset capability from the box to the field after the first drive they have to call plays from the field blind on offense and defense in the first half no eyes in the sky and then after halftime they put their coaches in the visitor stand so they can at least get some communication that's always dangerous to be sitting next to fans when calling the plays hey can you run can you on the draw play can you can you pass the ball why are we running it up the middle I know my mom was right beside the coach they say why are you running in the middle mom there's a scheme that's going on in the middle which is why they do that so um I'm sure that they got a lot of slack from the fans but they found a way to win at the end of the day and suggestions will always be coming your way from the fans but it worked out they fought through that adversity picked up the win over a cross town rival set to receive the kick from gagos rilan no no to the 30 40 no crosses Midfield and the Citadel out great field position in plus territory man what an electric start to give the offense a great start on the 40 what where they at on the 40 yard line near the 40 45 yard line what a great start to start off for the Citadel first home game of the season to give their quarterback Jonathan Bennett a little confidence going to his first drive and first home game Bennett the grad student from nearby Somerville turning home to play for the Citadel 10 for 17 170 last week in his SLE Bulldogs debut and a whistle flag flies false start and the sizzle will back up five it'll be first and 15 yeah already we send some uncharacteristic Mistakes by The Citadel with the unsportsman like ship penalty and and here we are all start on the first play of the offense possession the running back is Cory Ibrahim he'll get the carry maybe picks up a yard tackled by the safety Diego Addison yeah really good Pursuit by the by the South Carolina State Bulldogs their defensive line they have an amazing defensive line some guys that can really play ball um brought brought a lot of guys over from Benedict College with Coach Barry and um great great start by them second down second and 13 for the Citadel Diaz goes in motion on the ends of round this is Grace bips and he's sandwiched yeah one of the things about that play is I've seen seven white jerseys around the ball carrier that is telling me that the South Carolina State Bulldogs team is pursuing to the ball they are fundamentally sound to their keys and they they they had some type of clue to what was coming on that play Barry talked about defense having great eyes great communication third and long for the Citadel third and 13 Bennett On Target heet to Malachi Taylor a beautiful throw and a first down for the Citadel wow what a throw South Carolina state was in position they had two guys on there they had an underneath Defender they also had a a deep Defender but Jonathan Bennett was able to get that ball over the underneath Defender right before the Deep defender came down and get us a first down thre it over the head of the safety Brenan Scott terrific throw from Bennett and a first down for the Citadel at the 33 Grace Phillips in motion Ibrahim up the middle Powers his way to threey Cory Ibrahim the Richard sophomore from Raleigh North Carolina he was the leading rusher last week at CSU 16 carries for 68 yards didn't see any game action in 2022 or 2023 it's certainly making a difference here I mean four yards and that'll run that's really good if you continue to get floor you'll get the first down every [Music] time Cooper Wallace gets an opportunity and he is wrapped up Jaden Bron senior from nearby Monks Corner South Carolina making the stop for South Carolina state and he's a beast V dominated Florida A&M last week five tackles a sack fumble recovery he's the one to watch on the South Carolina defensive line yeah this guy is fun to watch he's a fun football player which is probably why he's wearing number one on the defensive line he is a really good player came from benedict with Coach Barry really exciting football player and he's certainly GNA be on the play this game third and six for the Citadel Bennett scrambles looks for the end zone for grace bips and it's over his head the Cal fans asking for a flag they're not going to get it yeah it was a little it was a little tusu on that play but not enough for the referees to throw the throw the flag here goes the replay yep South Carolina state was in there cover for but Jonathan Bennett is trying to make a play just give this guy a chance a little too long for him it's be a 47 yard attempt for Ben Barnes who was one for two last week at CSU made from 49 missed from 46 this one is up and it is good a 47 yd field goal from the red shirt sophomore Ben Barnes and we are tied at three 334 left to go in the first all tied up between the citel and South Carolina state this time now is presented of Charlie 10 the Wiest head coach in citel history coach 10 started his career as the running backs coach at Albany in 1973 his coaching career included notable stops at Georgia Tech Inc State Virginia and the US Military Academy he coached the cital football team from 87 to 96 achieving significant success in earning the Eddie Robinson award for coach of the year in 1992 during his tenure the team had some remarkable achievements including finishing with an 11-2 record in '92 one of the best in the Cal history D also the Bulldogs to a six and5 record against division 1A teams with wins against Arkansas Army Navy and South Carolina after the citel he had coaching with Montreal the University of Maryland the Hamilton Tiger Cats and the University of Central Florida his accomplishments extended Beyond college football as he coached Montreal to an appearance in the 2000 breakup and was recognized as coach of the year he left a mark at UCF where he helped the nights win the Conference USA Championship in 2010 the cusa East Championship twice and the AAC conference title in 2013 with a 12-1 record throughout Charlie taff's successful career Jan has been his supportive partner contributing to his achievements on and off the field Jan and Charlie have one son ladies and Gentlemen please give a warm Round of Applause for Jan [Music] and a touch back and South Carolina state will go back on offense opening drives for both teams that resulted in three yeah they got three points I mean as a coach you want to get points on the board right especially start last game so here we are the first drive they both gotten points and let's see what South Carolina state can do put together on the second Drive South Carolina state picked up 24 yards rushing on that first drive yards through the air we'll start from the 25 empty backfield Phoenix off the hands of the receiver and almost picked off opportunity for we're Tau as quarterbacks we got to put a little TCH on those to the quarterback makes it very difficult when we throw bullet passes to him so we like to see minut to just take a little bit off of of that pass B second and 10 for SC State from the 25 empty backfield once again for South Carolina state as they take to the airat on this second drive five wide right here Phenix is the lone back he's set the protection Phoenix over the middle complete once again to his tight end ke Tony his second catch of the afternoon really good IQ by eric3 pointed out to the linebacker to the left because he noticed that they were blitzing to the left he was able to get the ball out before the guy got to him so really great job by Eric Phoenix right there and Tony's going to be an asset for Phoenix couple of Seasons playing in the socon at chatt nooga much like Carter who played at ETSU preseason First Team all M selection the tight end Kean Tony this is ky Adams and he'll pick up three Adams with 11 carries for 60 yards last week at Florida A&M made it excuse me added an eight- yard touchdown reception to give South Carolina state the lead in the third quarter dangerous player out of the [Music] backfield second and seven upcoming for South Carolina state they're set the protection so probably going to see a pass play here it is a pass play Phoenix plenty of time over the middle and it's dropped inos Carter started running before he had it yeah yeah you got to get the ball first those are the small details and the small plays that get you first down that you want to be able to convert to get you out of third and long situations it makes it so much better when coach Barry has third and one versus third and six and [Music] seven they'll have the Speedy receiver Kaden High looks like in the back field next to Phoenix now he'll go out wide empty backfield for South Carolina state see if the Sidle decides to bring pressure they Rush four and they get to Phoenix he is sacked that's Chris Benton the sophomore from hanne City Florida yeah Chris B big boy got on in on on the on the sack right there Citadel did a great job of disguising their coverage and I think they might have confused Eric Eric Phoenix right there but hey the offensive line they just whiffed and man really good really good play by The Citadel defense rushed four against five and won the battle yeah yeah that was a cover too right so that's a pass down defense that Citadel was running you expect your offensive line to be able to pick up those four Bron back to receive this punt evades one tackler but not two and the SLE will go motivator and it's it's fun to watch the South Carolina State team because of their head football coach another penalty on the Citadel they'll back up five yeah I'm sure coach Drayton is not happy about that you know you take those five yards from the first drive that that's the same exact thing that happened on the first play of the first drive here we are again sins that coach Drayton talks about often what he wants to avoid penalties self-inflicted negatives yes Ibrahim gets the carry it one or two second and 13 Ibrahim was very good in the spring and then transferred to the summer his coaching staff is very pleased with Cory Ibrahim who's emerg this season as the starting running back but they'll run four different backs we saw last week at [Music] CSU again it's Ibrahim he'll get back toim the 33 so it'll be third and 10 for the Citadel we apologize for the technical issues with the score bug we're tied at three here at Johnson Hood Stadium between the CIT and South Carolina state and the clock will tick down on the first quarter and so we'll take a break from Charleston as the first quarter runs at a time Sidle and South Carolina state remain TI at three all e e e e e getting ready for the start of the second quarter The Citadel faces a third and 10 situation we're tied at three between the Citadel and South Carolina state yeah they converted a big third down on the first drive with Jonathan Bennett was able to get it over the flat Defender let's see what they put together right here it looks like South Carolina state is in their cover for a look Bennett drops back sets up the screen unable to connect with Ibrahim and to reach for it and it'll be a punting situation for the Citadel yeah they had that play actually set up if Jonathan Bennett could have drive for them right here how about doing the break uh the Citadel they were able to honor Coach Jeff South he he participated South Carolina state was a coach there but he was a first African-American coach coach at a D1 school at wiah State I seen coach ston he was really excited about honoring him and celebrating and pumping up to the crowd to celebrate him which is cool first and 10 from the 17 Dart in the backfield with Phoenix 101 here on the back side option Phoenix will keep the athletic Eric Phoenix has the first down and a lot more really great job by Eric Fenix right you you know Citadel historically they're auction football team but South Carolina state said Let Me Take A playbook play out of your playbook and he did a great job of reading his keys and he got the first down Phoenix a transfer from Murray state but the prior four years he was at benedict with Coach Barry two-time All Conference selection there pass for over 4,000 yard in his career at Benedict doart escapes on the left side one man to beat and doart is out of bounds he went out of bounds what a great run he also lost his shoe right there he was trying to stay in so much he lost his shoe but really great scheme that's what we're talking about with those big offensive linemen right where two come together the two pullers right there that you see man when you got those two big boys going man you set up your running backs for great success jeart another transfer from Benedict he was the tigers's top rusher the last two seasons for 600 yards and seven touchdowns a year ago first down at the Citadel 37 Carter goes in motion and Phoenix again on the keeper wow it's been an effective play so far for South Carolina state hey that will get the juices going on the sideline that'll get the offensive line going coach bar a former offensive lineman himself man that'll really get the offense going right there Eric Phoenix what a great job of Faking the pitch I I ran the triple option back in my day at Georgia Tech really great job by Eric Eric Fenix faking the pitch and going up for a long game I always prefer to keep it if you could right Matt yeah as long as you don't take too many hits first down at the 15 time rolling right he'll throw back left and completes the tight end Kean Tony but it'll be a loss maybe a loss of three on the play yeah we got a penalty on the play as well think it might have been a lineup issue too many men on the line of scrimmage wait for word from Jake romach number zero a South Carolina state back up five first and 15 from the 20 Phoenix throws over the middle nice grab made by Kaden High maybe just a gain of one yeah great catch by Kaden high if you if you're Phoenix you want to try to make that a little catchable ball make that ball a little better throw it at his eyes that way a guy like that when you get the ball in his hands he can really make something happen especially versus that cover two defense that Citadel just ran you mentioned making something happen High's an explosive number two receiver for South Carolina state 49 yards receiving last week at Florida A&M another Benedict [Music] transfer second down Phoenix will keep picks up about five seems as though coach Barry he caught on in something he really likes this option play this is the third time maybe even the fourth time on this drive that they've ran this play so far and so far it's been effective they've been able to pick up um at least five or six yards on these on these plays and Eric F has been the one that's been toen the rock an unexpected wrinkle that I don't think I saw much option in the game at Florida A&M yeah I did not see much of that in Florida A&M but seems like like with their speed they're just trying to get on the edge with their speed third and seven empty backfield Phoenix rolls left he's in trouble chased by Wyatt and Phoenix will step out of bounds it's G to be a loss on the play and it looks like South Carolina state will set up another field goal opportunity yeah that that that looked a bit funky there I thought thought it was a early start by the offense on that but there was no penalty there so 34 yard except for gyos made one from 30 in the first quarter three for three now on the season kick is up and it's no good cyos misses his first kick of the season and will go to break 10:3 left to got to respect Jonathan Bennett because he's not just in a TR tradition offense where he can just hand the ball off he has to read Keys like defensive ends in every play he has to read even on pass play he has to read so really respect him on that transfer from Liberty Five Seasons there the backup last year but he started seven games back in 20122 the Flames Brin no the kick returner seeing assignment wide receiver here in the second quarter yeah those are confidence boosters right there get your offense going get a quick pass play in and hey as offensive guys we're taught to make one miss and if you can make one miss you can go for long be third and five for the Citadel Cooper Wallace in the backfields next to Bennett lost one to Cooper Wallace terrific catch Wallace comes up with it he's fired up and a first down for the Citadel yeah that was a really great play call by The Citadel Jonathan Bennett again his accuracy is pinpoint he put it up for coopa Wallace to make a play Koopa Wallace an exceptional play to get the drive extended on a third down he's a receiving threat out of the back field at a 39 yard TD reception last season at South Carolina state now a big pick up on the ground for Wallace feat him again he's in the zone right now Cooper walles after amazing catch now a run for five yards Cooper Wallace a terrific athlete came to the Citadel as a quarterback they moved him to aback in that triple option offense last season he was their starting running back their feature back now splitting time with Cory Ibrahim and Johnny Crawford Garrison Johnson this season they can use Wallace in a number of ways he gets the call here fights forward he's close to the first down couple yards short hey you got to be doing something right when three straight plays your number is called going back to that that route that he caught that was a whe route him versus the linebacker Cooper Wallace versus the linebacker and as an offensive guy you want to believe that your running back has more Wheels than linebackers so you always come on on top so really great job really great offensive scheme and here's a better third down third and two is much manageable than third 10 Playbook wide open right now for the Citadel on Third and two up the middle that's close First Carry I believe for Garrison Johnson the short yardage back and he's going to be a little short looks like they're going for it Johnson three carries six yards and a touchdown last week at Charleston Southern fourth and one at the South Carolina State 47 yd [Music] line and it looks like Bennett there so you knew that it was some type of Zone um play and I love the play call because they had their quarterback on the run so either he had the option to throw it or he could have run ran it in 55 state to see if they grew a little bit from last week because last week they were in the same exact situation on the one yard line and it took them a few plays to get it I think it took third or lot of their guys with them from Benedict College so it's good to see that he was retained and see that he's still making an impact on the offense of South Carolina State Bulldogs it's going to be a second and goal from inside the one plenty of time for South Carolina state 37 seconds remaining in the half how how big would this be for cadel's defense if they can step up up on the one yard line and stop this South Carolina State team from getting into the end zone maybe even sett in for a kick stop him all all in general that would be big for the Citadel going into halftime they're very good against the Run last week at Charleston Southern only allowed 93 yards we get to see right here which Bulldog power has the has has the better power right here which Bulldog come up come up strong on staff they finally got to work together they did a segment on that talking about their friendship and their bond and it's really cool I'm sure they're both excided and related about those results nature there well these are socon preseason coaches pole no surpris to see chatt nooga Ferman and Western Carolina at the top unfortunately for those schools they all have started the season 0 and one but really difficult matchups Chattanooga struggled with Tennessee Ferman of course at Old Miss and Western Carolina they gave NC State a struggle so watch out for the catamounts this season yeah I watched that game you know being a North Carolina guy myself and I was surprised to see Western Carolina really put up a great fight fight the socan conference is really coming in strong right here and the caddel been last but they got their one and0 start and here they're hoping to get to two and0 right here for non-conference play so it's already picked up a win over Charleston Southern of the miles doing a really nice job of recruiting locally V 62 players in the roster from South Carolina for South Carolina State 54 on the roster from The Citadel yeah Dave this is not just any football game this is for bragen rights this is for bragen right some of these guys made have may have played with each other in high school some of these guys may even played against each other so this is this is huge and I see a lot of red in this Stadium as well and coach ston said we want to be City Champs they've already accomplished that knocking off CSU then they want to be state champs playing every scholarship FCS team in the state this year South Carolina state being one of them and ultimately of course socon Champs here are some of your Hometown Heroes for the all all names on that list playing a big part so far this season yeah led by their quarterback Jonathan Bennett would love to see Devon pesnell get some get some catches I haven't really seen him in this first half he came up big last week so you know definitely a lot of Hometown Heroes that's playing in this football game peasnell their leading receiver last week at CSU we go down to anley Clifford who has more well guys Citadel fans obviously super excited for this home opener if you look around me there's a lot of white In This Crowd and the reason for that white out is because they want to erase this last year's start and start fresh coach Drayton mentioned that even if you have a championship season it is so important to start fresh saying that nobody cares about your greatest they only care about your latest guys it is a white out here at Johnson ha good Stadium but you'll notice at the Citadel they're wearing blue the visiting team of course V has to agree to wear dark colors in this visiting team they did not so despite the white out the Citadel is featuring their infantry blue yeah typically the visitors teams they we white so um don't be too mad at them but you know it seems like coach Barry he just wanted to continue to go with their system there their system is to wear white um but certainly would have loved to seen Citadel and this Stadium be in all white that would have been cool well s Lead South Carolina state 9 to3 as we get ready for the second half coach stayon said it's going to be a tough task going up against South Carolina state you look at this team a lot of transfers on offense they pursue the ball on defense very fast on special teams with Enos Carter said the thing that they were concerned most about is their explosiveness they can score on any given play coach Barry of course doing a great job at dissecting defenses but he said the biggest key to doing well against South Carolina State ball security and ball extraction wanting to end each drive with a kick point after or a field goal or a punt punting never a bad thing because you can gain you know 40 50 yards of field position absolutely Dave and if you're coach Drayton you kind of gota even know you probably was disappointed in the way that your team played in the first half you got to feel optimistic about this second half on the score been a one possession game one touchdown can get you in it so you got to feel good two field goals can also get you in it as well talking about kicking so you know I expect the cadale football team to come out this second half a much polished and a much uh disciplined football team team in this second half remember they triled last week at Charleston Southern at the half came back in the second half seemed like they were the more conditioned team in that battle of Charleston he talked about conditioning as well he said we pride ourselves on being better conditioned than our opponent it's part of our process they want to play a Bor and grer football and keep Jing one step at a time and then you look up and the ball game's over and we have more points but I thought this s really wore down CSU late last week South Carolina state they wore down Florida A&M in the third quarter but that seems like the reverse they got wore out in the fourth quarter where the Citadel just continue to get stronger and pulled out the win at CSU yeah I mean here you go Citadel they've been in this position before where they had three points at halftime right and they came out and they they found a way to win they showed that they were an aggressive football team but they showed that they were a conditioned football team to be able to win that game last week was huge for the program it was huge for their confidence so going in coming out of halftime I'm sure they're confident that they can do it again because they've been in this position before so little bulldogs asked to do a little more than student athletes at other schools it's really important for everyone to understand they play this game certainly for fun they don't have those nil deals The Glitz and the glamour of other institutions most of their Cadets take 18 to 21 hours they're up early in the morning because of their military obligations it takes a different kind of mindset to play for the Citadel these guys certainly have it we'll see how conditioned they are for the second half yeah they they absolutely don't want you to get it mistaken they have athletes here that play ball too so they want to come out really this second half and show their athleticism and show that they can match up with the South Carolina State University football team Sid will get the ball first to start the second half and it bounces to brilin n and C BLD balls will try to get the offense going not a lot of total yards in the first half for the Citadel B not a lot of yards and all and this first drive of the of the second half I mean this this takes some type of Pride this takes a level of Pride with the Cel offense to say give me the ball we are ready we we we didn't do what we were supposed to do in the first half but here we are we're here now we're still in a game and we got a chance to go and take possession of this game and even take the lead here Cory Ibrahim Cooper Wallace in the backfield with Jonathan Bennett Bennett pitches to Wallace Wallace down the right sideline a nice pick up on first down yeah Wallace has been an X Factor this game you just got to get the ball into his hands anytime he got the ball into his hands it's been positive plays cadel that time they went back to their triple option scheme where Jonathan Bennett read the end man on the line of scrimmage and was able to outflank the defense to the sideline Wallace did a nice job last week at CSU 10 carries for 40 yards their leading rusher a season ago, 1467 yards in the Russian career of Cooper Wallace here at the Citadel give up the middle is to ibraim and he breaks loose Cory ibraim to the 30 25 down to the 22 yd line wow what an electric play Dave really it was the same play that they just ran on the on the last play they went back to it but because it's a triple option scheme you have three options either to give the ball the quarterback to get the ball or to pitch it and that time Jonathan Bennett gave it off and so far to the races not much there I got another opportunity that's the big play on the ground that s was looking for absolutely I mean in the first half they had only 25 rushing yards and here you got they got more than that on that one play and here they're in the Red Zone in the 20 got a chance to score and take over this game second and eight Bennett he's wrapped up by ashad Hall who had a sack in the first half yeah great job of staying home by ashad Hall he did a great job of trying to play both right when a defensive end when they get in between the pitch the mesh it's hard for a quarterback to pitch it so Jonathan Bennett just ate it and tried to fake him out picked up a yard maybe and um have a big third down for South Carolina State Defense and a big third down for Jonathan Bennett and S the offense here third and about seven expect the S STI to the air here I do I do they brought Jonathan Bennett here from Liberty for reason Grace bips in motion Bennett rolls to his right completes the grav Bops but he's gonna be short of the first down and now decision time for the citad it's Fourth and about three fourth and three seems like the offense is stand on the field I would like to see if Citadel is going to try to get them to jump off sides when South Carolina State University was in this position before they ended up jumping off sides giving the Citadel the first down so let's see if what they decide to do here dvon peasnell the bottom of your screen one-on-one he was the go-to guy last week at CSU yeah ate the penalty right there get ready for the field goal they tried to draw them off sides instead they'll back up field goal opportunity upcoming for Ben Barnes who made one from 47 yards in the first half now two for three on the season this one from 38 flag flies barnes's kick is good but we'll wait for word on the penalty so a lot of flags in the first half that pattern continues here in the second yeah be interest to see what this call is illegal substitution 12 or more players on the
