you doing today I'm good I'm good AJ how you doing uh yeah but no definitely a long busy day here at the bav Daily News a lot of you know getting ready the fall Sports preview going and getting that finished up on top of you know the Bills roster cutd down Day so a lot to talk about with the bills here today you know some some major moves some major some some a couple I didn't say a lot but a couple major surprises um from the bills so we got a lot a lot to talk about today yeah let's just kick it off with uh a little bit of a surprise but a pleasant surprise for many the hometown kid Western New York native Lancaster Legend 5:27: Joe Andreessen makes the team Joan dreon makes the Bill's initial 53 man roster and I heard you watching the video on your phone just before we went on air here of Coach I believe his name Eric rup of of Lancaster announcing to his team that one of their Joan dreon has made the bills 53 man and what inspiration for those young high school players you know it as well as I do we've talked to these kids this year in the past and those are the players that these kids look up to the players that have that rookie try out come out of nowhere and make the team uh when you play football in New York you're not necessarily uh the most sought after when it comes to division one uh prospects but look at what Jo andreon has turned his career into now making the team after like I said a rookie tryy out an incredible story not only for those kids at Lancaster but bills Mafia everybody paying attention to what he's done yeah what a significant development uh for this kid coming out you know again we really didn't discuss much of him and dreon uh throughout the first half of training camp and even after the first preseason game there wasn't much talk about him and then he comes out on fire and delivers that performance where he just really shows that he has you know the Gap Integrity uh the the instincts kind of to play the position and you know 24 year old he's actually older than Dorian Williams which is kind of crazy so a bit older but you know that that's still he still chased the dream and got it done it doesn't really matter how old you are's he's on an NFL roster um again my dad a Lancaster grad so I know we talked about in the previous episode so he's probably thrilled as well but overall a great story um you know I think it shows people that you really can do anything anything's possible I think it kind of doesn't make up for but there were lot of bills fans that have climed for the Christian Wades of the past and the Raheem black she and those kind of cool stories that didn't really quite work out Andy Isabella last season a guy that really you know some thought would make the initial 53 but Joe Andre the hometown kid is the guy that I think you know there was kind of a lot of hype for but it actually you know went through with it and Bills fans you know the bills ended up keeping andreon on the team and it's just overall what a great you know story and for the for the player himself I mean you can't really pass up an opportunity to play on your hometown team you rooted for there's pictures floating around out there of him you know at bills practices growing up and kind of playing with that team so just a heartwarming story for a guy that truly does deserve it and really did prove to the to the bills and to himself that he can really do it at this level and do it for you know hopefully the majority of the regular season yeah that 12 tackle performance against the Steelers where he was all over the field tackling justtin fields in space and then he followed that up with not as shining of an effort against the Carolina Panthers I think he was was involved on that touchdown from Bryce young I think he had something to do with that maybe a little bit of a miscommunication between he and his linebacker mate there in the middle but uh another eight tackles in that game and like you said he he's proven that he belongs and and you can't deny those instincts and Sean McDermot said it in his comments right after that Steelers game just his ability to find the ball is is undeniable and and that's a great trait to have as a linebacker and we know coach mcder a little bias towards uh former wrestlers and I have to admit I am myself as well I think that plays into it just that Never Say Die attitude that you get from the wrestling mat uh can really translate over onto the football field and you see that with andrees play in and play out just never gives up on the play fighting through blockers uh and just doing uh what what was at one point the unthinkable uh here making the bills 53 man roster but let's move on to some surprises some more surprising uh matters AJ and some 12:16: Shavers, Hamler released - WR room surprise Cuts you have Tyrell Shavers the wide receiver who really came on strong during training camp all over the field but his preseason performance didn't really match what we saw from him on the practice field a couple of special teams penalties against the Steelers that's an area that he had to prove himself if he hoped to make this roster and then that play against the Panthers that that ball lofted up by Bend denucci in the left side of the end zone and looked like he slowed up on the play either either way uh not able to connect on that and that's a ball that you have to have if you're hoping to make the team so I'm not sure if those individual plays are what put it over the edge or if it was just the overall evaluation of the player but Tyrell Shavers off the roster KJ hamler off the roster but obviously uh the bigger surprise is is Shavers yeah and I think it says a lot about what the bills have done this offseason with you know signing on vas M Collins two veteran guys that you know we were we were talking back in April May about those two guys being locks and then you know you kind of felt Holland kind of surged and he really made a name for himself made multiple plays in The Red Zone portion throughout training camp and was just overall very consistent with his hands and a really good receiver for this team in terms of that that depth role that he's going to be asked to do along with the Run blocking and special teams aspect of his game and then the mvs he kind of went the other way right so that I think that kind of left the door open for Terrell Shavers to make the team that bonucci play um he did stop running but as a receiver if you beat a a defens back as bad as Terell Shavers did um you know he left him in the dust right you know put on a double move kind of left him in the in in the dust and denucci I thought he could have put a little bit more you know realized that Shavers beat the guy so badly could have just kind of th maybe Shavers was was expecting kind of a higher arcing throw um from from the quarterback because he just left the the corner in the dust uh so I think it's on both there but that was definitely one play that stood out but I really thought that Shavers based off of preseason performance and and training camp performance and what I saw I thought he was deserving more than an mvs now again that goes into mvs has that veteran presence that experience you're you're more likely to see trell Shavers fall through the waiver wire right and end up back on the practice squad so that's also a major factor I think you can get trell Shavers uh back on the practice squad I don't really think he's that big of a name and that big of a commodity right now to for for teams to really want Terrell Shavers again an undrafted free agent but I think he's shown enough where I I think they might want bring him back let him see how he fits on the practice squad if they need him in a pinch call him up see what he can do but definitely a shock I think for some and I I think his versatility what he brought many people had Shavers on their final 53 man roster projection you did not Alex over on The Daily loot news online.com so you were you were right there uh with Shavers but yeah I think all in all just so close to getting that one right if they held on the hamler cuz that's who I I kept instead of Shavers if they would have held on the hamler I would have been hanging on the rim all afternoon right yeah so I I I I I'm not gonna say I disagree with the Shavers thing because again at the end of the day you're not going to get back in mvs through the practice squad um he's not he's not a guy that's gonna be willing to do that in his career so hopefully it all works out for the bills and they can get Shavers back in the practice squad here in the near future other receivers released by the bills Justin shorter uh Andy Isabella Xavier Johnson Dion Kane uh the bills are going with five wide receivers to enter the season khil Shakir here Curtis Samuel M Hollins Keon Coleman and Marquez Valdez scantling Samuel and and uh Valdez scantling excuse me ENT of the season with injuries but sha McDermot would not rule out either player for week one uh Samuel dealing with the turf toe injury marz Valdez scantling dealing with a neck injury so we'll continue to monitor that uh the bills are out there for practice tomorrow so we'll see what their status is as far as that's concerned we also hear from General manager Brandon Bean tomorrow afternoon so interested to hear his comments as well uh but yeah the the bills going with five wide receivers just your thoughts on that and uh did you think for a moment they were going to keep hamler there like I said he was the one I kept on my final 53 and uh you're never going to be 100% right in these situations but when you make calls like that it's it's always exciting when uh I shouldn't say exciting but it's always intriguing when when you're on the borderline of being right certainly don't want to have it at the expense of any player losing their job uh such as Tyrell Shavers do hope him to get uh they do hope to get him back on the practice squad but as I said uh I did not have hamler uh many did have Shavers but your thoughts on that decision just to let hamler go as well and the overall decision keeping five wide receivers yeah first off Susan thank you for tuning in uh they have not sucked for years they're for straight afc's titles but hey I I need views of you I appreciate you tuning in we're talking some Bill's roster cutdown day here on right here right now so looking you know again thanks for tuning in but anyway uh yeah this Bills wide receiver decision I mean I think when you saw the Shavers you know decision to release him earlier in the day from Ryan talbat first report from syracuse.com I think the my mindset was well if they're GNA keep six six it's gonna be hamler because again I think we've already talked about on this show extensively you never really felt like shorter Xavier Johnson Andy Isabella Brian to like all these guys Brian Thompson all all the names have really graced the roster Chase Claypool you know was a guy that was in kou at one point you never really thought like any of those guys really made an impact to to make a statement to make this roster and it really only felt like KJ hamler his versatility I thought with the Curtis Samuel injury and what he could provide is is you know he was in the back field on on Saturday right he was he's used as a gadget guy he can beat you deep they they show they used his speed a lot during training camp in terms of the quick screen usage and I thought he did really well there so I thought with his speed and versatility as well as Maybe that depth returner say dquan Hardy goes down who again he's that's we'll get to that in a little bit I don't want to spoil it too much so I'll just leave it there for now I think with KJ hamler you just get a lot of that versatility I was surprised by it but I think Alex one major takea away from what you just said about you know with the safety position and the wide receiver position is what you know it seemed really Doom and Gloom right there for that safety and wide receiver position in terms of injuries they now enter with five receivers and they and they C five safeties right so you're you're really looking at maybe not so bad maybe they survived that little first wave of injuries just based off the fact of what Brandon Bean had decided to do today and and all in all again I think the five wide receiver thing was a little bit surprising but they did it last year I think they're confident with those five guys and what they have yeah and uh the talk of the afternoon before the bills announced their Final Cuts was uh the wide receiver from Houston Noah Brown what 14:20: WRs available are your thoughts on Noah Brown AJ I know you're a big Senior Bowl draft guy myself not as much uh he wasn't really as uh much on my radar immediately when he came became available but a lot of bills fans clamoring for Brandon Bean to to get on the phone with his agent what are your thoughts there yeah give credit to uh cover one there for the Noah brown stuff early in the offseason because they did a really good job of kind of diagnosing what he did and stuff so I think Noah Brown is a is a Plus ad for this room and it will be interesting to see what they do if they do decide you know Tim Patrick actually a guy that you know thought had some success signed with the Detroit Lions so he's a guy that's already off the market but there's Terrace Marshall Jr from Carolina who's played with Joe Brady can he be a guy they bring in as the six guy so I I don't know if they're done at the wide or Seer position you'd think right that last year you felt like they kept five because they had Diggs and Davis and they were already established guys and there wasn't really a need for that much depth at the receiver position but with this year I feel like you have so many question marks that maybe you know adding a six receiver wouldn't be too bad but all in all I think Noah Brown would be a plus blocker and in a plus receiver for this team I think he's got good hands he's he's a dynamic route Runner um and ask what he's asked to do he's a great depth piece for for a wide receiver core I think with Houston he was just kind of you know he fizzled out there because of the fact that tank Dell Nico Collins John matchie Stefan digs there's just so much talent in that wide receiver room over there took you a while to get to Diggs there AJ yeah yeah hey again he could be like it's weird because I just did a fantasy draft the other night and like he could go like he's going like right around where tank D on niiko cins are going but it's all like it's just so Random with with that unit this year because who knows who's going to be like the the alpha in that room because there's so many questions and so many uncertainties with all the new pieces over there but yeah all in all I I think the bills could add a receiver Noah Brown being one of them and and I like what he could bring to the to the depth of this wide receiver C if they do you know go ahead and bring him in we're gonna thank our sponsor quickly foref fathers Organics in additions to the roster Casey tohill and Nicholas Morrow two 18:30: Casey Toohill, Nicholas Morrow make the roster players that you did not see hide nor hair from during the uh preseason excuse me uh Maro and to Hill both returning this past week leading into the final pre-season game uh they both make it despite like I said no action and you lose a Kingsley Jonathan you let him go a player who's been in your system that's been widely discussed on social media since the uh final 53 was in announced looks like the bills are are going with what they say the back of the baseball card uh here to go with a baseball term with Casey two Hill and Nicholas Moro two veteran players two players who have put plenty of NFL game reps on film for them to rely on and it just points and I tweeted this out it points to how little the preseason in training camp means when it comes to evaluating veteran players I think that's primarily used more so for unproven Commodities more so than players like Maro and tohill who like I said have played snaps in this league and listen that the bills are going through a transition at linebacker with the Milano injury moving up Dorian Williams into the starting slot and looking to fill some of that depth and Maro was one of the players you brought in through free agency and kind of similar at the edge rusher position you bring in a Casey twohill you didn't see anything from him from the preseason but bills the bills still comfortable seemingly with these veteran players keeping them on their 53-man roster over a player like Kingsley Jonathan yeah I I I mean if you really like dissect it with the Kingsley Jonathan and Casey Dill like that's probably what the decision came down to right and I felt like Kingsley Jonathan um was a guy again undrafted right from Syracuse had some success his first year appeared in a lot of games was taken by the Bears last season then ended up back with the bills later in the year so I think Kingsley Jonathan was just a guy that again he had opportunity I felt like he never was able to make the most of it and Casey T Hill like you said sometimes it is an experienced League why do you think mvs you know was probably probably a lock all this time when we're sitting here trying to really critique his game which me me more so because I just don't really know how confident I am with mvs and a guy like you know so again it's it's all over the place there with with that decision I don't really know what truly went into it but Casey two Hill does get the nod I think against five sack season last year and I think he's a guy that can maybe bring some rotational depth to this unit and maybe some experience uh we'll see what happens then Nicholas Maro I always felt was more plausible uh for me because of the fact that the injuries at the position throughout Camp they Spectre going down Osio dealing with an injury at one point uh Matt Milano obviously with a bicep injury and it really felt like they didn't have that much veteran experience in that room I know Bernard's played in the you know in the system for a year but what what true you know leadership and experience have they had in that room I feel like Nicholas Moro fills that out they probably felt like he had more juice left in the tank than a Dion Jones who was released on Sunday uh that was you know I would say a surprise but you know based off what we saw at camp and the experience I feel like again they gave the nod to Maro in that aspect so all in all two Hill Maro on the roster and and you know that's why I thought ly Collins would made the roster I was telling you this before the show is because of that you know back of the baseball card type thing where he's had success in this league and you know that that always doesn't work out for every player and obviously they felt the offensive line depth was better than the defensive line dep at this point and you just tweeted uh probably another of the shocking moves of the day dayquan Hardy does not make the 53 man roster and there have 25:00: Daequan Hardy released, Bills make trade with Jets been rumors that he may be dealing with an injury and maybe that contributed uh to his failure to make the roster but uh by all accounts he and and by my view and yours I'm sure he looked good during the preseason uh in training camp both in coverage uh and a little bit in the kick return game a little bit hot and cold in the kick return game making some questionable decisions Fielding the ball inside the 5 yard line uh Shawn McDermot was encouraged with his performance in that regard this past week against the Panthers but uh I would be shocked if we don't hear about Hardy dealing with an injury in the coming days because I'm not sure how he doesn't make this roster if it's not for uh some sort of ailment that he's dealing with currently yeah it makes no sense to me uh and like Bill Tuk says in the comments Bill thank you for tuning in on YouTube Hardy is the biggest stunner I would totally agree with Bill on that take because they really did utilize him Alex everywhere I think you saw him you know on the boundary right in the in the slot position as a punt returner uh you know moving him around the Box guarding tight ends guarding receivers so they were really doing everything you know with Hardy and that's like the prototypical you know late day day three pick um kind of under you know under sized a little bit smaller uh maybe not well you know athletically gifted but in terms of like those you know physical height and weight probably a little bit undersized for a typical NFL quarterback defensive back and it felt like Shan mcder in in this staff was just you know bringing him along like he was one of these you know day three steals like a danne Jackson or a Taran Johnson of the past and he was really trening up and I thought everything I saw during preseason you know watching over the film uh from some from some clips that he's shown that he's produced not not just in punt returning but on the defensive side of the ball I just thought that versatility sham M Thurman would not pass up um so again there might be something more going on there like you said there's been some murmurs about about an injury uh John Roberts here says I did hear Hardy was injured but I didn't hear how yeah it feels our guy thigh doctor uh on Twitter broke down some film he believes it it could be a shoulder injury uh but like you said uh we're we're not doctors we're uncertain of the nature I'm I'm not sure but I I believe that we we may learn more in the coming days yeah so we we'll see that that's that's to be told I guess we're not really we're not really sure right now but again the dquan Hardy just seemed like the prototypical Shawn mcdermit guy um and everything he put on the tape and everything he did was was you know revealing of that I thought he's done exactly what he's been asked to there's been a couple questionable decisions but he's a rookie right um and then especially when you saw KJ hamler get released I felt like oh this is a sure sign that dcoin Hardy W the punt return job and all that so it was a shocker definitely the biggest stunner of the day like Bill said but you know we'll see what Bill what the bills do and what direction they go in I know they made a trade today so maybe we can get to that quick but yeah that's all I have on that and thank you to Buffalo John for the comment as well and and yeah I obviously the the trade that the bills made today uh corresponded with the release of Hardy they bring in a new kick punt returner in Brandon codrington uh a rookie who had a 63 yard return for the Jets earlier this preseason had a nice preseason for the Jets returning the ball averaged over s 1 yards per punt return and over 19 yards per punt return for North Carolina Central University this past fall so uh this is a player with a lot of return talent I think he's going to fit right in as the team's top Return Man uh that's not something you really need to uh get acclimated into a system or anything like that they saw what they liked from him or or they liked what they saw from him on film uh and they bring him in they late round pick swap in 2026 uh I think I have it here the exact terms of that deal 2026 7th round pick from the Jets for a 2026 sixth round pick so uh kind of an in inconsequential deal in terms of of draft Capital going one way or the other but you bring in a a Bonafide returner somebody who's shown they could do it with this new style return during the preseason so certainly encouraged in that regard but still kind of question in that that release of Hardy yeah definitely I'm I'm still baffled by it actually it's it is it is crazy uh that might be one of the most like off-putting things I've seen from the bills in terms of like a roster decision in in the past couple years that comes to my mind I really thought that Hardy was a sure thing but uh you know codrington it is funny because he ran a 61 or 61 I I got it not that's not correct do not listen to that he ran a 461 uh in in the 40 yard dash so that that is interesting to me I I think you or I could run a 61 AJ yeah exactly yeah that that's probably what I was thinking in my head so yeah a 461 for him I I know he ran a 455 during the Jets try out he tried out for the Jets he was Jo andreon story right uh walk- on try out made the team and then he showed some flash during the the pre-season enough for the bills to to Warrant you know hey hey New York we haven't made a trade in decades let's uh give me this you know this punt returner from what what what college excuse me sorry was that what what college was it North Carolina Central yeah so bring over this this uh punt return that you just had for a try out and let's let's make a trade for the first time in decade so it was surprising but like you said it's a return job the bills better hope it works out uh because if it doesn't you know Bills fans will be clamoring that they made the wrong choice so hopefully that with the experience in college and what he's done already throughout the preseason krton can fit right in and be that return guy that the bills you know do desperately need now with the the the new kickoff Rule and all that so it's a whole new Telltale for the Special Teams unit and hopefully uh Brandon codrington can fit right in yeah s capacho on Twitter makes a good point you can't release an injured player so maybe the injury to Hardy not as severe as many uh were led to believe just bced on the pure shock in in his release but uh we'll have to continue to monitor that see if and where he lands perhaps he lands on the bills practice squad which which still has has yet to be decided a lot of these players we've discussed uh having been cut definitely candidates to land on that practice squad but another player that had turned into a fan favorite Frank Gore Jr released by the 29:12: Frank Gore Jr., Zach Davidson released bills I don't think he ever really had a chance of making the team he had that 100 yard game this past week against the Panthers uh showed some good ability sustained an injury late uh in the end of that uh toward the end of that game but uh once again you can't release an injured player and his cohort in the backfield Darron Evans who also sustained an injury late in that game was placed on injured reserve by the bills with designated with a designation to return so uh he'll be sticking around a little bit longer but Frank or Jr released that ends that story here in Buffalo at least for now maybe we see him return to the practice squad a lot of times in this in these type of situations you see these running backs released by teams come right back to the practice squad league is so flushed with running backs that a lot of times these teams just bring back whoever they had initially and don't really peruse the market uh as much as they would uh at other positions but uh kind of disappointing to see Frank gorgo would have been a great story uh his father previously playing for the team uh perhaps a future Hall of Famer uh but but the team moving on from Gore Jr yeah I think his uh NFL general managers are sifting through the releases today over 1,000 players released right so you're looking and you see a Frank Gore Jr uh that you know is will the name get him on another on another practice squad or another roster do you think that you know maybe not but I'm just putting it out there that like John Roberts has here like we were kind of thinking on the same page Frank George Frank G Jr may get post and you see a name like that and what Frank G Jr's father Frank Gore did in the NFL lead leads you to believe that maybe someone else might be interested in him so I think with all these NFL general managers sort through what they're you know trying to do here you know a lot of players you know probably take some time they got to recollect themselves not only do they got to make decisions on their practice squad and cutting down to 53 then they got to get right to you know picking up guys who can we add who can we steal from other teams that we like so I I think Frank G Jr will return to the bills practice squad but because of the name you might see him you know get picked up by someone else if not uh it's gonna be really an opportunity based approach for frankco Jr I think the only way he can really see the field is with injury because I think with Tai Johnson I think he's in the in the in the realm of possibility for a kick return job as well as that rb3 job and then you have the the sure-handed ray Davis and James Cook at running back two and running back one so all in all I think Frank G Jr has a long shot to eventually maybe make this bill's team but overall I think his NFL career is just getting started another player who really had a steady rise in the ranks throughout training camp and the preseason tight end Zack Davidson who was seemingly battling with Quinton Morris for that tight end three job for for quite some time uh but he was released by the team as well another candidate for the practice squad Quint Morris dealing with a shoulder injury so this points toward that not being uh significant in nature as I said before Shawn mcder not ruling out anybody but Matt Milano for week one so maybe Morris has a chance to return by then as well Davidson had a lot of big plays throughout training camp not as many in preseason games uh kind of a pass catcher and a pass catcher only I don't know how much he can offer you in terms of special teams help I think that's kind of what bit him in his battle to make the roster yeah overall Quinton Morris is just a more complete tight on right Alex he's he's a guy that you can trust as a run blocker uh in special teams as a pass catcher even I thought he flashed throughout the majority of the preseason going back and forth with Zack Davidson in terms of the the receiving part of their game so I liked what I saw from Zack Davidson maybe they can get him back on the practice squad I'm sure he's a guy that they'd like to bring back he's shown enough to me where you can maybe count on him and in a pass heavy situation if you if you really want to you know get the ball throwing and Joe Brady wants to throw the ball with Josh Allen that Zach Davidson could you know fit in there but overall wouldn't expect too much to see Davidson this year and I thought he had a good camp but I'm not surprised with it I always thought that Quint Morris was the more complete guy and the only way that Davidson was gonna be on the final 53 was is was if they you know they kept those four tight ends and then at quarterback Ben Deni released and Mitch fisy not placed on IR so with that 34:18: Ben DiNucci released - backup QB situation, offensive line knee injury he trending toward a week one or or prior return he did not look good walking around with that knee injury this past week but the bills releasing denucci and not placing trabis on IR that certainly makes it seem like he'll be back now they could still trade for or excuse me pick up another veteran that's been released here uh on Cut Down day a lot of these third quarterbacks uh being Let Go by their teams and in hopes of some of them being resigned to the practice squad maybe the bills look at that market uh Kyle Allen comes to mind I'm not sure if he made Pittsburgh he made the initial the initial 53 man yeah okay okay so so that's one name that's that's off the list but several more out there I know I was also uh talking about Case Keenum he's sustained an injury he's been placed on injured reserve so those two players familiar with the bills not necessarily options but maybe they go elsewhere uh however kind of a surprise to see trabis not placed on that injured reserve I thought uh almost for sure that we'd see him uh probably on that designated to return track as Milano is yeah definitely a little bit of a surprise there's the Bailey zappies of the world that were released today you were talking about him all afternoon know you didn't tap me on the shoulder when the the the announcement was made or the report was made that Andre was staying with the bills it took me about 15 minutes to realize that happened hey I lost you for a second but we're back did you did you hear my joke I I I I got the gist because you probably been waiting to throw that at me all episode so I think you it took it took it took you 15 minutes or it took me 15 minutes to realize about the andreon thing but you're all over ba bayy zappy all afternoon yeah so Bailey zpp is a guy PJ Walker is another guy T me on the shoulder AJ PJ Walker was another guy that was released so those are a couple names that come off the top of my head but I think the bills could still be in that that veteran quarterback Market see looking around to see what guys were release today um but yeah we'll see uh John Roberts says maybe I Wednesday for trabis yeah there's still a lot to be I think with within the next 24 hours still a lot to be determined and that and that's an important note Joe Biselia alerted a lot of people to this earlier today uh this is the initial 53 man roster as teams sift through the free agent pool now there's still some moves that could be made there's obviously still players that could be placed on that injured reserve so still plenty to follow uh in in the days to come yeah so a lot a lot still to come like you said and again I think the bills could be in that quarterback Market but with the injured to trabis we'll see how the week unfolds with that and we're only 12 days away from week one baby so we're we're getting really really close here yeah Jim Kelly days away from the bills home opener against the Arizona Cardinals few more items of note offensive line as you mentioned the cut of L Collins open the door for rookie tylon grael to make the roster I had the bills keeping eight offensive lineman on my 53-man roster projection I knew that was probably unlike uh gyel makes it as the ninth man in many people's eyes so a little bit of a surprise there gyel an athletic skill set at the offensive line position so I think they like him in terms of a developmental uh Prospect yeah Tylin grael uh I was I was in a Twitter spaces the other day and I was talking about the offensive line and I totally left off Tylin grael in a conversation and they all started going crazy tyin grael are you kidding me you're not talking about tyon grael so I think that kind of gave me a sense of okay okay this Talon grael guy's got has actually been playing pretty well I gotta start paying attention to him so I'm not too surprised that he made it uh he's a guy that I think you know cover one's very fond up too he they talked about his ability uh throughout the preseason to really pick up what Aaron Cromer's putting at him and he's kind of an Aaron chromer type guy so I think with the offensive line nothing too surprising again the Lyall Collins thing a little bit struck me by surprise just because the contract and the experience and what he's been asked to do but it apparently you know only got 10 snaps in that preseason game and I think it you know it kind of as Collins words the marathon continues to try and find a home coming off major injury and we we'll see what happens but yeah no no major Surprises with the o line yeah how about that earlier he releases that post on Instagram and it's completely vague I mean you couldn't tell one way or the other of course you can read into it but fans just taking it uh as gospel that he's been he's been cut by the team and I tweeted out I have no idea what this post means I mean it could have meant anything uh turns out many fans were correct and he was released by the team but think we got to slow our role in some of these situations and also I think L Collins may have known what he was doing in that situation putting out uh the vagueness in that tweet uh but last item of business that I have before we get to kind of a grand scope conversation Gable 35:55: Gable Steveson released stevon uh released by the team as well I thought for his first time playing football he showed some flashes like I said with gyel kind of as a developmental Prospect obviously grael a little bit further along in his development but stevon I think is a player they'd like to get back on their practice squad and maybe look toward 2025 and and maybe even 2026 once he gets acclimated to the NFL level and you could really turn him loose in a pass rushing specialist role uh I'm not sure he's a he's a sure thing to make the practice squad but I was excited with with what I saw from him being a firsttime football player uh and and knowing uh the skill set that he possesses yeah Gable stevon will see where he ends up uh he's a guy that I think his willingness just to try and make the right play be in the right spot was always there you know those wrestlers they had that mentality so not not too surprised with that but overall we'll see if he ends up in the practice squad I don't know what the bills will do will they let him try and stick on somewhere else or find it find the new home um I don't know it's it's such a unique you know situation we're talking about an Olympic gold medalist wrestler who's playing football for the first time so it's really hard to tell where he kind of ends up in terms of his NFL career but I think he still has some some things to learn obviously because it's new but also I think there's still some some gas some gas left in the tank for him in terms of I think he can still try and find a you know spot on an NFL roster here sometime in the in the future all right so let's go through through the Bills offensive roster here 40:47: Overview of offense quarterback Josh Allen M trabis you have Shane Bell on injured reserve running back James Cook Ty Johnson Ray Davis you have Darron Evans on injured reserve with a designation to return fullback Reggie Gilliam wide receiver there's five of them Curtis Samuel Keon Coleman khil Shakir Mack Hollins Mar wvz scantling tight ends Dalton concade Dawson Knox Quinton Morris offensive line man Dion Dawkins Spencer Brown Conor McGovern Osiris torren David Edwards Ryan vandemar Alec Anderson Cedric vanran Granger tylon grael and then you have Travis Clayton and Tommy Doyle on season ending injured reserve AJ I think this is about how many expected the offensive side of the ball to look for the bills entering training camp and the preseason uh really not many surprises at all a lot of people wondering with the Shavers of the world the hamers of the world the Justin shorters of the world who would be that six wide receiver turns out there isn't one and I guess we shouldn't have been shocked because as you said earlier the team spent the entire season with five wide receivers so uh it's something that they're used to uh and just really not much shakeup here on the offensive side of the ball maybe you saw a tylon grael like you said emerge a little bit obviously Ryan vandemark Alec Anderson really securing those backup roles on offense but in terms of the starting roles and and the the players you hope to contribute at a high level this year it's it's pretty much chalk across the board on the offensive side of the ball and unless uh you feel differ yeah no I think exactly like like you said I think this was an offense that I think that you know the most underrated part of this offense probably is the offensive line I think their depth Alec Anderson Ryan vandemark Cedric vanran Granger uh they have a lot of depth on this offensive line that I like and I love you know I think the starting unit's great too I think you know you return four or five starters from last season you move David ever that left guard roll Conor mover to Center so I really like that offensive line I think they can do great things I think they can be versatile in the in the Run game as well I think they can really you know pound pound the ball with James Cook and Ray Davis this season so that's that's a positive and then I think just the overall arching factor with the five wide receiver thing is I think what the bills have at tight end with Knox con Kade and what the bills have in the running back room with cook and Ray Davis in terms of pass catching ability I think that also plays into the factor of why they only cut five I think they do have confidence there with that you know those pass catchers in the running back room in the tight room I think they bring that versatility and I think you're going to see a lot of you know 12 Personnel not not a lot in terms of like usage percent usage or volume but in terms of compare comparative to the rest of the NFL I think you'll see a lot of trial personnel with d con Kade and Dawson Knox and I think this Bills team is going to be willing to run the ball I think they you know and it's all going to come down to Josh Allen at the end of the day uh that that is the big thing you could run the ball all you want but at the end of the day you're going to need Josh Allen to step up and be that player um and maybe more maybe more of a game manager role I'm not going to say they're gonna like confine him but I think what you saw toward the end back half of last year was you know as the off passing game really regressed you know the Run game and they still won games right Josh all only averaged 198 yards per game passing over the final five games of the Season like that that's not like that's this is a guy that averages 250 yards per game throughout his career in the air so I think with Josh and this offense philosophically a bit different uh Everybody Eats right everybody eats and that's what they're going to go with this year I'm not as high on the offensive line as you are I wrote in my recent issue or our recent issue of bills digest uh available now digitally it will be available in stores and in your mailboxes soon I wrote that the offensive line is one my biggest concerns on this team and a lot of it is because of the depth I don't think you're going to get as lucky and see these Five Guys start every game for the team this year and I'm not as comfortable in their depth as you seem to be uh I I was not as high on tylon grael as some people were during the uh preseason in training camp now I am not an offensive line Guru uh but but I I wasn't really sold on what I saw from him also Cedric vanran Granger I think had more up and down moments than people were anticipating entering the league and then then Alec Anderson and Ryan vanderark while solid backups I think that's what they are solid backups so I think if they're thrust into a starting rle for an extended period of time I'm not so sure how well they're going to fare for this team this year I think there's a lot to be decided up front that's one of my most significant question marks on the offensive side of the ball but moving to the defensive side of the ball let me get my roster 50:39: Overview of defense, PS candidates, KanJam talk sheet back up here and give you the defensive roster for the bills this season we'll start with Edge rusher Von Miller Greg rouso AJ epza dwan Smoot Javon Solomon and the surprise Casey tohill defensive tackle Ed Oliver dayquan Jones Austin Johnson and the rookie Dwayne Carter linebacker with Matt Milano on IR with designation to return you also have Terrell Bernard Dorian Williams Balin Spectre who's dealing with a calf in iny and maybe a surprise addition to the roster that we had yet to discuss he was also not placed on IR which is a good sign in terms of his in injury recovery also Nicholas Moro Edon Osio a rookie and Joe andrees also another rookie who we discussed at length cornerback Taran Johnson rosu Douglas Christian Benford Kyer Elum Jamarcus Ingram and Brandon codrington Ingram another UB product that makes this team that's three UB players along with Cam Lewis at safety he's joined by Demar Hamlin Cole Bishop Mike Edwards and Taylor w at the safety position then you have the specialist Tyler bass Sam Martin and Reed Ferguson didn't get cut this year AJ he's not brother so so I guess that's spread down to Miami it's the it's the Ferguson uh tradition here every uh August on Cut Down day one of them is waiting in the parking lot so how about on the defensive side of the ball I think maybe a few more surprises here you have obviously two Hill uh Osio and andreon and Moro for that for that matter and Spectre all four of those kind of uh were were Hit or Miss uh to to begin uh this offseason in terms of people's 53 man roster projections and then Demarcus Ingram uh a positive training camp Brandon codrington comes over and then Demar Hamlin another player who was kind of on the bubble uh but has made the team what do you think here obviously two Hill the biggest surprise bills need a lot from their Edge rusher position they need somebody to step to the Forefront who knows maybe it's to Hill yeah that's definitely a possibility I think he'll be again a rotational guy who knows if he'll be active on game day um you know there's five players each week they only carry 48 on game day so who knows what five those are uh so I could see two Hill being a potential guy like that unless maybe Javon Solomon is they don't feel confident enough in yet but I think he's shown enough where they do feel confident with Javan Solomon's game so overall I mean this defense it really comes down to you know I think the edge rushers are very important um what what can you get from Greg rouso and then in the back end what do we have at safety I mean we have not seen Mike E in the system yet we have not seen Cole Bishop in the system yet uh so what what are those guys going to be I think those those two things then you have the linebacker concerns but I think with trell Bernard um there at the middle linebacker spot you still have the captain of that defense there that that you know weak side linebacker whether it's Dorian Williams who I I'm assuming is getting that that spot or Nicholas Moro or whoever they choose to put out there week one I think you you know have some confidence with with what you have there at the linebacker position still Corners again I think are all set I think you have solid depth with Kier elim and Jamarcus Ingram there at that spot so I think you're all set there and then you know you have the versatile chess piece and cam Lewis who can really play Anywhere uh on the defense where you really can ask him to do anything so I think this bills defense with Bobby babage can still be successful I I Still project them to be you know above average unit uh if everyone remains healthy especially those key guys like a Terrell Bernard and a Greg Russo and a not Oliver but overall I think they got a lot of pieces um it's obviously a new look team right on the defensive side of the ball with with the safeties gone Trey white gone Matt Milano injury occurring so it's a lot of new faces but you know this scheme has proven time and time again that when they need to get it done they can get it done especially you know in the regular season I think my biggest concern concern on the defensive side of the ball is at Edge rusher I like what I've seen from Greg rouso and AJ Essa and Von Miller for that matter during the preseason and training camp but it remains to be seen if fanessa or Russo can take that next step during the regular season and produce a double digit sack year and whether or not Von Miller can stand the test of time and and last a full season and be productive at that right uh let me move to our final question here AJ regarding the practice squad if you had one player that the bills released uh over these past few days obviously some released on Sunday many more today who would you like to keep on the practice squad I think my pick uh would be Zack Davidson I I I've Loved what I've seen from him all off season and the bills really factoring those tight ends tight ends excuse me into their game more so and more so and the injury history with Dawson Knox we saw him hampered last year hopefully he can make it through a full season this year but you kind of need some insurance at that position I'd like to see is Zack Davidson I don't know about you uh maybe a Rond Del bothroyd is that a name that that you're looking for on on the practice squad I'm not sure about that it's it's uh I don't even honestly I don't even know like like what is that guy I don't even know what that guy weighs in I don't know anything really about Rond Del B no offense the bid I hope he you know again finds success and chases his dream which is probably his dream is playing in the NFL but I'm not really sure about Rond deloid but thank you for not stealing mine Alex uh you probably easily could have but I'm going to go to Quan Hardy just the versatility on that he can bring to the nickel position behind Taran Johnson and just you know maybe the boundary support that he can give along with the returnability I think with dquan Hardy you're just you know you you have a guy that has a lot of Promise in this league we'll again we'll see what they do if he's a guy they want to bring back if he goes to another team or wounds up somewhere else but if I had to choose one guy I'll go the easy route I won't be you know um polarizing in my pick and I'll just go with Clan Hardy all right I think that's going to about do it we'll thank our sponsor once more of here let's talk about your Championship run in the dis flect Association you'll have to correct me on on the term but for people who are unfamiliar AJ a can jam Legend won his fourth consecutive World Championship fourth consecutive this past weekend at Buffalo riverworks him and his teammate Charles if I remember correctly and his father Chris also won a title so AJ the can jam King out at Buffalo riverworks how to go AJ and your takeaways from what had to have been a a funfilled day yeah it's fun because again I I I said it train wack Mike bunt was there shot Mike uh he always does great stuff and he's always just willing to do anything really wherever wherever it is you know as long as it's oriented but yeah can jam was you know originated in Buffalo right so that that's definitely a part yeah people forget now they've kind of named the sport disl which is that's why it's called disc flect the pdfa the the the pro disc Association that's what kind of it goes by uh presented by can jam but all in all got there watched the first half of the Bills game uh took some takeaways was watching in the car uh it's been a game that me and my cousin Charles is actually my cousin uh that we've been playing for for years so yeah we you know bald out only lost one game all uh all tournament and it's funny because the guy who we play we we usually play them every year they're really good team and they're like you know the last couple years you beat us on slots and it's been a really back and forth you know series and it could have gone either way and then we fored them um if they do listen to this you know it's funny so it kind of was like hey hey John that's the guy's name like it it wasn't that that way this time so it didn't have to come down to a miracle slot for me or Charles so all in all got some you know nice extra money uh for the weekend and you know had a great time enjoyed myself I love the game of can jam if you want to play it you should uh it's a great game and if you want to get competitive there's you know a tournament every year where you can be you know claimed the can jam or disle world champion so it's fun yeah yeah the slot King they they used to call me that in high school but now AJ taking the title as is the slot King I don't slot I don't slot only only it gets done that's the weird part not even on purpose either I'll throw it I'll miss my throw and it'll go in the slot and you know they get so kicked off because the game was like 21 to8 and I slotted accidentally or something and it's just it's just funny how it works all right well that's going to do it AJ the can jam King once again and Alex brasy much much much lesser uh in terms of the pecking order here on right here right now we are signing off uh bills cut down day down to the initial 53 man roster you can read all about it on the dailynews online.com also Bill's digest coming out soon we'll see you next time peace out [Music]
