thousands of Mexicans marched to protest against the proposed overhaul of country's Judiciary the March was joined by judges ministers members of Judiciary and opposition leaders in response to the controversial legislation brought by Mexico's ruling party [Music] the Mexican Government which has accused the judges under current judicial system of being corrupt passed the contentious legislation in the lower House of Mexico's [Music] [Applause] [Music] Congress the legislation which requires all 7,000 judges in the country to stand for election is seen as country's most sweeping judicial overhaul of the century the legislation was presented in the Mexican Senate on Sunday while lawmakers are expected to debate on the vote at a later time meanwhile critics have pointed out that the constitution constitutional changes brought forth by The Mexican government would deal a severe blow to the independence of Judiciary making them more loyal to the ruling party and their respective constituencies [Music] [Music] we are extremely concerned obviously interested in the reform to come because it is a situation that involves the entirety of the country not just the members of the Judiciary of this Federation at some point any citizen who has to deal with Justice will no longer know it as it is known today in an impartial and autonomous fashion a after the bill cleared the lower house Focus has now turned to country's Senate President Andres Manuel Lopez orador is party his party is one seat short of the 2third majority but might be able to pick off an opposition Senator the central Pro human rights groups have asked the Senate to kill the legislation calling it a threat to the life of democracy and a danger to Human Rights and one which impacts Mexico's International obligations fore [Music]
