Commanders Sign Sam Cosmi to a 4 Year $74 Million Contract Extension

yo what's up guys it's King Sean here and we have some breaking news here reported by Ian rap report first the commanders are signing standout guard Sam GMI to a 4-year extension this is huge huge news obviously Sam cosmi um in my opinion one of the best guards in the NFL I mean he is it's statistically proven that he is PFF gave him what like I think a 85 um 82 85 um some grade last season which is really good and he was really really good um in the second half of the season especially he was good in the first half as well but you know he kind of got better as games went on um he had good games against the Rams he did a nice job blocking Aaron Donald and he did a nice job blocking the guys on the Jets D line as well so this is huge huge news you know U locking up one of you know the best guards in the NFL and the best offensive lineman on this team without a doubt um I love this I love this for Sam Cosby he deserved this he worked hard for this uh in his rookie season obviously we started my right tackle and I'm not going to lie um don't want to talk about this pass reg Jee but they they they hit on this one I will say they hit on this one um one of their only picks they hit on to be honest I think Cosby and B are probably the only like great picks um from this from the pass jes' uh you know drafting so you know it's good that cosm me and B hit but the rest of the draft picks were just really bad we're not really bad because I mean there are some good one I mean Derek Forest um he had a good season in 22 just hasn't done much since but that's because of injury Percy Butler and he's not great um and then you guys know everybody else but back to Samm Cosi um this is really good for him obviously in his rookie season he started at right tackle for us but I think he only played like 10 games that season because of a hand injury and then the following season um he was kind of switching over like I know ronera had caus me um like flip-flopping from guard to tackle and it just really messed him up um he wasn't terrible in 2022 just wasn't great but then in 2023 we just finally stuck him at Right Guard and he was an elite guard um I think he was a top five highest graded guard last year um per PFF which is really freaking good so man I'm super happy that cosmi got this deal done we got this deal done with Cosi a man Adam Peters Dan Quinn did not tell cos me that you know they he had to show them uh what he can do this season they just decided to you know what you've shown enough um over the past couple Seasons you deserve to get paid especially last season where you were arguably one of the best guards in the NFL top five top three guard in the NFL last year so you know what man just get the money let's go ball out and I absolutely love you you already know what you know Ron ver did with Trent Williams he said that Trent has to prove himself which is insane saying that to the best left tackle in the game at the time and even now is is just insane so I'm really happy we got this deal on with Cosby I know Cosby said in his press conference that you know they had some talks in February but talks really haven't ramped up till you know 3 weeks ago uh so it is good that you know we got this deal done before the Tampa Bay game week one and it is good that we got the deal done now because you know Cosby was just going to get more and more expensive asgard's um you know got paid Chris lindström he got $20 million per year last year uh I know Landon Dickerson the guard for the Eagles got $21 million this offseason earlier this off season and then the Broncos guard I think his last name is miners or something like that uh but he got $20 million per year as well it is really good that we extended cos me we gave him a four-year deal or $74 million $45 million guaranteed so that is $18.5 million a year that will put him fifth among you know guards uh being paid in the league right now which is really good fifth highest paid guard that is great value more and more guards are just going to get paid and get paid so you know it is really good that we secure this deal with cosmi right now Dan Quinn said that he's really excited and happy we get the cosmic deal done he said that he's a commander through and through he plays tough square and strong he'll be an anchor inside for years to come and yeah really happy once again uh cos me you know he's here to stay and you know overall congratulations to him like I said really glad that we got this deal done before week one so now we can just
