Game 138 - 1985 Detroit Tigers Season Replay v Seattle Mariners @ Tiger Stadium

hey everybody welcome back to Brainiac baseballs 1985 Detroit Tigers season replay today's matchup is between the Seattle Mariners and the Detroit Tigers at Tiger Stadium on the mound for the Mariners today is Floyd banister whose record is 5- six with a 5.15 erra and pitching for the Tigers is Dan Dre whose record is 12 and3 with a 2.98 ra okay he uh yeah another game yesterday where we got clobbered or 0 and2 uh for the month of September um I mean we're you know I'm not really interested in like phoning it in but I think it'd be kind of fun to start mixing things up you know we started Chris uh nap yesterday who's just been like pegged as our fifth starter and clearly he's not major league material uh we I'm going to go ahead and just pull him from uh the starters role and we'll put Terry Taylor in there at least if we're going to get blow up uh we may as well have some youngster in there where we can try to figure out whether or not uh that person is worth keeping on our staff or not so um also because we did have to go to the bullpen early yesterday um I've swapped out a couple of the tired players like nap and uh glavin uh gumper technically is too and I've brought in Freddy Martinez and Vicente palasio uh into the uh Bullpen to pitch today if we need him hopefully we won't need to we do have Dan Petri on the mount he got clobbered his last time out there as well so I mean I have no idea what to expect obviously Seattle's a pretty tough team uh offensively and we just might have to accept the fact that we're going to get clobbered uh every game of the series the good news is we only have two more games against the Mariners and then we are done if you look at the lineup you'll see real quick here that I just put all the schlubs in there uh maybe the schlubs will come through I I feel like a lot of our uh everyday players have kind of hit their games played threshold that the game allows you know and now we're just getting diminishing returns and don't have a ton of uh value the rest of the way uh Dan Petri uh there he is getting the start uh Gumpert is not available we got a full stable of arms to go uh to today if we need to and then we are facing Floyd banister who's a lefty and we get clobbered by lefties every time I'm sure he beat us last time in fact it might have been a complete game shut out and you'll see our lineup mixing it up here with Marty party behind behind the plate let's go ahead and do the lineup rund down for the Mariners batting lead off at second base is Harold Reynolds batting second at shortstop is Spike Owen batting third in right field is Alan cochrell batting Cleanup in left field is Ricardo SS batting fifth at first base is Alvin Davis batting sixth at third base is Randy azdor batting seventh and D ing is Dave hangle batting eighth in center field is Dave Henderson and batting ninth is the catcher Butch wer let's take a look at peaches here making his 24th start he's 12 and3 with a 298 ra 90 strikeouts in 148 Innings pitched opponents are betting 224 against him he does have a complete Game fast ball topping out at 89 mph ground ball percentage at 46% the fast ball is rated to 990 the slider at 82 why do I feel like that keeps going down overall rated an 88 the 26-year-old ready is a free agent after next season look at his log yeah three and 2/3 gave up four runs on four Hy walk six I mean what can I do with that nothing um he won he still has technically won eight consecutive decisions um before getting a decision against Seattle and they're getting um pummeled by the Twinkies all right we'll take a look here at our defense we got Billy Billy Billy Billy he's in left field um you know everybody else is good defensively but they're just not the regular guys Castile behind home plate uh Baker at second base we do have Williams back at third it makes me feel good I do have both third basemen in the game today pegley Rulo does hit lefties really well and um he is on fire right now he's like the only bat that we can kind of count on so uh we have them in there even though we probably should have the day off okay here we go Harald Reynolds leading it off Fly ball into center field Willie Wilson making a catch Wilson by the way is listed as tired you may have noticed that uh during the pregame lineup and he's going to have to be on the run again Spike Owen flies out the center two down and Allen roll with the Bas of course there's no way we could ever get a one two three inning and we learned yesterday with nap in there he got the first two outs he gave up a hit a walk an error and a home run and the game was over so let's just see what happens here line drive to first I guess you get better results with better pitchers we go to the bottom with the first we'll take a look here at our lineup real quick batting lead off in center field is Willie Wilson batting second at Short Stop is Barry Lin batting third in right field is Kevin bass batting Cleanup in playing first base is Rusty Tilman batting Fifth and dhing is Mike pagle aulo batting sixth at third basee is Matt Williams batting seventh in left field is Billy sample batting eighth and catching is Marty Castillo and batting Ninth at second base is Doug Baker okay Floyd banister making his 19th start he's in there due to injuries he's five and six with a 515 ER 93 strikeouts and 120 and two3 innings pitched opponents are batting almost 300 against him he's got a couple complete games no shut out so that wasn't a shut out uh the fast ball topping out 89 mph ground ball percentage is 43% he's got one good pitch but that's all you need when you're playing the Tigers it's got he's got the 84 rated fast ball overall rated a 77 the 30-year-old Lefty is a free agent at the end of the year uh he went six Innings giving up four runs on six hits three walks six strikeouts and then against Baltimore in his most recent start he gave up four runs only one earn eight hits five walks okay and we'll take a look here at the Mariners defense it's a same lineup it appears other than weeger who had the day off yesterday back behind the plate everybody else is in excuse me the regular position and Willie Wilson will lead it off against Floyd banister striking out one down bar Larin the ground ball to First and Kevin bass one two three in no big surprise there top of the second Alvin Davis leading out one nothing that's the ball game as Ador strikes out hangle popping it up and Dave Henderson face hit awesome number nine hitter rips it into right field how many runs will it get with two outs strikes him out on check swing one nothing on the home run by somebody I don't remember who was Rusty Tilman out yeah somewh are putting the slubs in there today right there we go walk the lead off guy great job game and a two-run home run three nothing number 41 for kako and another walk awesome another home run beautiful this is great great programming from baseball Mogul so many intelligent baseball minded people worked on this game that's a foul [Applause] out great three to nothing against Dan Petri he got an 88 rating or whatever and Floyd banister we can't get one run unless it's unearned yeah that's the only way we're going to score sample going on his own stupid he's already in scoring position but with two outs he goes to third makes total sense and we do not score top of the fourth hey there we go another two out single how many runs will they get ground ball to Williams six strikeouts for banister already no hits by the Tigers one walk and a runner safe on an error Floyd Bannister a 77 rated pitcher most teams he wouldn't even be in the rotation and he's throwing a no hitter in our home [Applause] turf finally Pet's got more strikeouts in walks why why would he a no hitter going through five innings H3 over 100 pitches a double for Henderson 25th double he's on the player appear is that going to fall in come on we go well we got six it figures it's Doug Baker that gets the first hit they tried to hit and run but if he misses it he's out unbelievable well we're going to lose anyway so let's see if colosio has anything he's making his major league tobut and um I mean he's still got got some growing to do he's a grown man he's 40 Spike Owen and a line drive right great awesome job game yeah you can't have a walk without a strike out [Applause] ever and a well not a one two three CU he walked a guy you couldn't have a one 123 in pegs he does hit lefties he got to give him that much going to the eigh inning oh there a one run all right good job by plos giving us one inning let's go ahead and bring in Freddy Martinez see what he's got Freddy Freddy m not Freddy C he did actually play in real life um he did Pitch one season for the angels in our Sim L Drive Williams okay Dave hangle and Dave Henderson the worst pitcher the worst pitcher in our Bullpen just had a one two three inning the guy that should have gave up all the runs yeah this is this game is absolute garbage it is unplayable why not we're going to steal who [Applause] cares curve ball striking out anyway didn't even matter um what can we do here we got three switches we'll bring in Tom Gorman he hasn't given up a run in a long time so if he's going to give up some runs let's give him up in a loss Reynolds will he be going awesome great job baseball mogle there we go that's number 42 well he's only giving up one run before this outing so if he's going to give him up let's give him all up right now ER yep had to be ER all right six to one Tigers get four hit by Floyd vanister what a freaking joke this game is baseball mogle just absolutely sucks ass it's just it's so stupid there's no reason to do this um we'll bring in Terry Kennedy to hit a grand slam I'm sure he'll strike out oh he's going to drive in a couple that'll bring in a save [Applause] situation oh now we got a pinch run for Kennedy uh we have no oh Eddie Milner we do have Eddie Milner all right Barry L betting 298 could tie it up no has a kick in the nuts right there this game baseball Mogul is a piece of [Applause] crap um all right things and then more things and then this happened and then there was that uh Jim Kern retired he did play for a couple years actually he was good really good couple of good saviors and then the game just put him out the pasture Dave rosello got got some abs for Cleveland and also a little bit for Toronto um oh the Dodgers give Belcher who's going to win his second sa young a four-year extension nice and Angel oh I missed Angel Torres didn't I okay didn't miss much hope the Box scoring get out of here yeah I mean I I absolutely hate this game if there was any way this game could be completely revamped that would be the only way I would ever buy it I would that's the only way I would ever spend any money is if they completely revamped uh the player tools the game the in-game tools um yeah I mean we had no were no hit through the fifth inning and then we had eight hits again makes no sense Floyd bister gets the win they had three home runs uh of course we're at home we had no home runs um good job by uh Terry Kennedy getting the 3 RBI I think he's got over 80 now right 83 yeah he needs one more to tie last year's I mean look how stupid this game is he's we're within two at bats same amount of doubles we have a triple last year none this year but the extra home run RBIs are the same I mean but the but the uh batting average is different because he's compiled these 125 games in the first five months of the season right we just started August so he's on Pace to play you know 20 more games than he would have um that that he would have last year anyway so obviously his stats have to go down because it isn't based on the overall average for that player that's why baseball Mogul sucks there's no Randomness to it at all you just have to stop playing your players at the All-Star game and then play them in the last month of the season if you want results and then everybody knew that you bring in you know at the allstar break or whatever let's say they'll all be hot you know for two months and then you put them all back on the bench and bring the the regular guys back like that's the only strategy that would probably work uh Dan Petri takes a loss he didn't really pitch bad uh Gorman did give up those runs he had to he had an 049 ER coming into that game so it was good to get him um I mean like if I hadn't brought him in we would not have scored Those runs because they scored three it allowed us to score four that's the only reason that happened all right we're done with this game we'll be back tomorrow and do another game until then everyone have a great day
