[Music] welcome in everyone to let's talk youths today we're going to be talking about the suu game first game week of the season I think everyone is really excited um let's jump right into it first off we're going to review fall Camp um Landon what are your thoughts on you know fall camp or the depth chart that was released man looking at the depth chart there's not a ton of surprises and I think the surprises are positive ones like we've been hearing the buzz about Isaac Wilson out of fall camp and just seeing him at qb2 like almost feels surreal like when's the last time as Utah fans that a true freshman has been this good this quickly in the quarterback room I forgot the exact stat you were telling me Tanner but I think what was it the past 5 years maybe we haven't had a player we've recruited out of high school play at quarterback yeah outside of Nate Johnson years yeah outside of Nate Johnson was the only one yeah which is insane so to me that's the main takeway I love to see Isaac Wilson at qb2 right there with Nate Johnson being recruited to play wide receiver in the long run truth the devious plan yeah it does seem like it is pretty impressive the coaching staff has shown that in the past they're not going to fall for you know the hype or the star rating they're going to go by who runs the offense the best and who they trust to score the most points and and not turn the ball over so the fact that Isaac Wilson has already gained their trust that quickly especially over someone who's in you know third year in the program like Brandon Rose I think that's extremely imp impressive to me I think that does highlight how good Isaac is and not how like disappointing Rose has been obviously like him Rose coming in as a fourstar not not seeing the field at all the last three years is is a little concerning for that end with Isaac coming in and taking the Reigns as the too it's just really impressive for Isaac to how good he has been so fast yeah no I I completely agree and I think um I mean on the the defensive side as far as the depth chart goes um I'm really excited to see that alakai Gilman is taking over the strong safety spot I think that's huge for the defense and I also really like what I see with Tao Johnson and Nate Richie um being interchangeable at that free safety spot I'm really excited for what sc's got as far as the different looks he's uh he's developed this year um yeah I think you guys all hit the nail on the head with Isaac Wilson um it's going to be exciting hopefully especially this Thursday with him potentially getting a whole half of football if if things go are going the way we want him to go oh definitely yeah I think you're right on with safety I'm really impressed by Teo Johnson because obviously last year he was recruited as a receiver and then he switched over to Nickelback played really well last year I thought and now switching over to um strong safety or free safety I mean sorry I think that's really impressive just shows his versatility and I think how highly the coaching staff thinks of him 100% I oh go ahead I was to say kind of piggybacking off off that like having like the ore for Nate Richie like it's it is it's interesting to see that I mean Tao the one thing probably that he has that is holding him back is his size I mean Richie is not much bigger but he does bring a little bit bigger of a free safety that I know Utah loves the hard-hitting free safeties and what what I've heard about Nate Richie the positives is he has a little bit of Cole Bishop in him I mean that's High Praise who knows if that's even what's going like what if that's true um but if that's the case I mean having an interchangeable guy that kind of has some of the tendencies that Cole Bishop might have is is very valuable one thing that I like just looking across this entire depth chart look at the games played for these guys we have have so many guys over 30 like the experience on this team is just insane yeah that's fantastic I think that having a team that you know has played games is not going to be wowed by the moment really will allow them to hit the ground running I think something else that was interesting to me as far as the depth chart goes was um John Randle Jr moving to cornerback and already being on the two deep I thought that was extremely impressive viously a four-star running back he's a red shirt freshman this year um just moved a quarterback I think in Fall Camp because he wasn't really making a huge impact in the running back room but obviously has the athleticism and the tools to be a corner um and as many people know Cameron Calhoun as confirmed by coach Whittingham in his interview today is injured so technically you know if Von goes down with an injury John Randle Jr is next up in that slot like he could potentially be in line for some playing time this year I will say with Calhoun one thing that's really encouraging is apparently he should be back getting into the swing of things in about a week in wit said that he expects him to play a lot of snaps this season which is really encouraging to me that is encouraging for sure he has so much talent well talking about go ahead Landon I think another thing are you guys done talking about cornerbacks I was going to bring up this kind of like a change of position situation what comes with Jonathan Hall I mean going to stud linebacker it's kind of just kind of jumping off the John Randall thing yeah or like how John Randall changed a position another person of notice is Jonathan Hall but yeah I feel like what I've heard from kind of reading the interviews it's not that he was going to be like a bad safety or bad DB or anything he kind of just grew out of it his body developed more like a little bigger more muscle he had more of a linebacker build and so I feel like that honestly could suit him really well that's what Whit was saying inie [Music] today yeah something else that I think is really encouraging is the lack of injuries coach Whittingham said injuries were down 70% in this fall Camp compared to you know the nightmare season of last year no it's it's honestly so big because as everybody knows who watched a single snap of Utah football it affected us from literally the first snap of the 2023 season onwards and it just got exponentially worse and by uh the Northwestern Bowl game I mean we were just not even the same team we expected to come with you know come into the the 23 season with so the fact that uh you know he's he's given certain guys breaks too um he said in his in his interview today that uh um he's been giving keithy specifically named uh keithy breaks um he's doesn't want to overdo it with him um he's done the same with Cam and so he's just making sure he's looking out for the the injured guys that have been um working on making a return this year so um yeah the fact that we're coming in pretty much full strength is is honestly huge yeah I mean that's always so nice when you can get through fall Camp without any major injuries another interesting thing I saw about the depth chart more of a minor note but ran Glover at punt returner I hadn't ever I don't recall hearing about this guy until I saw him on the depths try to punt returner but since then I've gone and watch some of his high school tape and dude he could be a legit weapon for us this year he's got some serious speed yeah he's in the classic mold of pun returner that I think Utah likes you know a little bit smaller a little like very very Shifty and fast you know kind of in the cubby mold you know only 58 175 yeah I mean as your games played he was someone that I had to do the same thing Landon I think we were watching a little bit of it together some of his some of his elusiveness again it's High School tape he was a junior so he's definitely has grown he's probably has improved since then greatly especially being a sophomore with a year under his belt here at Utah he he looks like he could be a stud at a returner for us a good weapon mhm in that room yeah I mean touching on the running back room no huge surprises but it's nice to see Mike Mitchell officially on the depth chart here because I think he's someone that Utah's going to need this season to me it really seems like they're pushing Mike Mitchell to like take over his rb1 like obviously they're not going to hand anyone anything at Utah that's not how they do it but it really seems like they're giving him every single chance to be able to you know try to take over that spot because he is the type of running back that Utah likes a little bit bigger but still can move yeah just looking at the physicals they have listed right here it does seem I heard that Micah Bernard put on some weight and that does seem to be true I mean I would not have said that he's only five pounds lighter than Mike Mitchell Mike Mitchell like if I remember correctly he's a pretty big dude yeah he is I think that's definitely beneficial for Makai though he's it's being his biggest thing like he's an excellent running back but he just can't take the one reps he just gets hurt too often maybe adding some weight to that limits those injuries and allows him to be a little bit more bulky and take those big hits that he gets from those from those tackles and Ed edges I do think though that if if McKai Bernard can just play the role he's played for the last few years he just adds another layer of just dangerousness to the pass game like he's such a good receiver and he's also so good in pass protection I don't know like even if he's just exactly who he always has been he's a huge ass set to the team absolutely it was one of the biggest misses last year having Makai probably changes a few few possessions at least maybe a few games last year for Utah no I I totally agree I think last year um something that I noticed just looking back on 2023 was just the lack of physicality in the running back room um you know and part of that was due to Bryson Barnes and just kind of the miscommunications with the offensive line that along with everything else that went wrong in 2020 3 um the offensive line struggled for for a multitude of reasons but I feel like we were really missing that physicality that Utah backs usually you know are able to maintain and I think this year is one we'll really get that edge back one of the general things for fall Camp as far as themes go that I think Utah fans are you know pretty surprised when they heard this is that the offense has been winning a lot of the scrimmages which is crazy usually yeah usually what we're used to hearing is oh you know offense starting slow they'll get into it defense dominated today defense you know looks fired up they look good but this year was kind of the opposite where the offense was you know I wouldn't say dominating but definitely I think had the upper hand throughout most of the scrimmages well it's like I remember hearing that like Caleb loner scored three touchdowns when's the last time that you're hearing that like oh this guy scored three touchdowns he looked Unstoppable yeah but bringing up K lner just looking at those those measurements is insane 6'8 235 it's I mean that's what you get from a basketball recruit coming in playing a tight end for you it's what everyone's wishing LeBron's done in his career you know seriously no I I think I I recall an interview with McKai Bernard and he was talking about how the fact that the defense has been you know so good and the offense has been so good um you know they come every practice dayto day just wanting to get the upper hand on each other and I feel like Utah like uh Tanner mentioned It's usually the defense that's dominant in the offense lags behind a little bit and uh I feel like that Trend starting to change and I think that's a super favorable trend for us because um that allows our obviously our our offense to shine but also um you know allows our defense to play a real um threatening Squad and I feel like you know I I feel like Utah has one of if not the best offense in the Big 12 heading into the 2024 season and the fact that our defense gets to match up against them every practice every scrimmage is is honestly huge from a developmental perspective yeah I totally agree I will say this is maybe a little bit of a stretch it makes me feel better about our offensive line if they're holding their own or succeeding against our defensive line because we know how good the dline is and so like if every play just isn't getting blown up that is a very positive sign to me yeah I do wonder how it looks in like a live scenario because obviously they're not going to be hitting cam Rising You' probably be kicked off the team if you tackled cam Rising you know um so yeah I do I will I will say that for the defensive line for sure I mean the same thing with keithy it's like the spring game like keithy looked Unstoppable because he can't get hit yeah but I do think talking about like that defensive line bringing up kind of piggybacking off Landon Landon St just remembering that tavos is just a redir no true sophomore that's insane to me I mean last year came as a true freshman and doing what he did was impressive I cannot wait to see what he does this year especially as that probably that key number one defensive tackle taking over for somebody like Junior tuno who hasn't really separated himself in that room yet yeah that does remind me of one more point to make um no seniors on the offensive line it's like this group could really grow together I think they have a two-year Runway with this exact group and I think that could be pretty impressive yeah kind of something related to that is having people like Carson Ryan and then apparently D Bentley they can help out with the blocking duties a lot like you know Utah is going to be running a tight end with most sets and someone like Carson Ryan is such a good blocker he's almost like an extra lineman out there you guys know just out of curiosity it just kind of caught my eye what the star is next to that player's name is that like if they transferred in that's they have the key there at the right which is includes games played at previous school so it's not games played for Utah like Dorian singer has zero for Utah but he 29 yeah yeah there it is I didn't see that thank you it means they're going to be an All-American that's what the star means perfect hey look calhon big I think that's an that's an interesting thing though I mean Carson R coming in as a pretty big transfer for us this coming year and D Bentley getting a start over him as the wi tied end yeah I mean it's impressive to see that Bentley kind of showing out I think all the tight ends will play a lot Agreed 100% agreed okay any final thoughts on Fall camp or should we move on to the suu preview I think we can move on okay let's move on to the suu preview obviously we're not going to go you know as the line is 37 and a half and this is an FCS game that Utah's not going to lose we're not going to go super deep I don't think into you know the position battles or anything like that because Utah I mean it's not interesting to say Utah has the advantage every single time um what are you guys what are your initial thoughts on this game and do you like kind of starting with an FCS team rather than you know Florida for the last two years yeah I can go first on this personally I love starting with an FCS team with a team ex as experienced as we have I'd be a little more prone to start with the Florida but even then you just bring so much into play with week one you never know how it's going to look for sure which is just it's really tough to sometimes take on that risk in the first week of the season but I will say when I watch a team like when we're playing s U I'm more looking for things just like General Trends with our team like who's getting targets what kind of what does the play call look like and so that's the kind of stuff I'm going to be looking at against suu yeah for me oh go ahead Conor yeah I think um just it'll be interesting because I feel like this is it'll be the first time since actually watching this team um I guess this uh variation of the team since late 2022 um so yeah just getting the guys back in the groove um obviously I think the biggest name is going to be cam watching him throw seeing how he is physically um if he runs at all I doubt it against suu especially um but yeah I mean I just I'd like to see some of the the injury injury-prone guys get touches um you know michah pitman's one guy that I would really like to see get touches this game Brent keithy obviously Carson Ryan coming off an injury in the I think summer um so just some of some of the injured guys I I really want to see um you know get some touches and um I just obviously would like to blow the top off of the stadium U score 80 points if we could um you know just to see what the offense can actually do and um I think the defense could pitch a shut out I think we're that good but um yeah I don't know I just I wanted to see some explosiveness and then most of all just some touches from uh from some of the injured guys from last year MH kind of kind going off what you both have said I mean to answer Tanner's question I I do think starting with the FC FCS team is what this team needs I mean starting with the Florida with Cam coming back the first week I mean being injured all last year and giving him a game like that would be difficult to difficult to see I mean obviously I'm confident that we would be able to be successful but having cam come in probably playing a quarter to a half of this game kind of taking that rust off against a a lesser opponent I mean seu they're they're an SCS school like we talked about it's not we're going to win this game it's going to be a blowout which is expected and allowing cam keithy Carson Ry everyone Connor brought up about the injuries allowing them a moment to to play that game get that rust off I is beneficial and that's why I think an SCF school or team similar to scu's caliber at least is definitely beneficial beneficial to start the season outside of a team such as Florida or such as another Power four team that that could hinder Us in that aspect at least make it a little more difficult I do think that this has a little more hype than the typical FCS game simply because of those injuries that you guys are mentioning like I'm a little more excited for this one than I have been for FCS games previously do you guys agree with that oh I completely agree yeah no doubt about it I mean just seeing I mean the stadium is going to erupt when cam walks out on the field I mean it's all out crowd it's going to be packed I think people are most excited about that um you know going to bring back the good old memories of winning the the Pack 12 in in back toback years it's going to be the first time we SE him on the field since 20123 Rose bow against Penn State so yeah I mean place is going to be electric I do think Bad Moon Rising pops man I do think this game is going to be like extra enlightening with all the injuries we had because like if it comes back and say like Logan Foo looks better than ever keithy looks better than ever cam looks better than ever then it's like okay these guys are still who we thought they were and then it gives us a chance also to see the backup guys like the coaching staff has already said expect Isaac Wilson to play and play a lot of snaps like we could learn some really big things about the team yeah I do think that the people that they play and the stuff that they go to is going to be very enlightening because like you're really going to use your bread and butter stuff against team like this you're not going to go too crazy you're going to keep you pretty vanilla and I think that you know outside of rising in Keith a lot has changed so I'll be interested to see what their bread and butter plays are with this new Squad yeah I mean we've never really been a team that like throws a ton of screens and like that kind of spread out the defense offense I just wonder if that's something we're going to see this year against suu we just have the Personnel now to do things we've never done before we've seen people say like oh 6535 is what they're pushing for to to pass run differential I this is a perfect example to see if that's something they'll be they'll do I mean suu is a perfect opponent to try out something new like that that Utah has not done for probably the history of my lifetime watching Utah football they've been a run heavy team and I mean seu is a perfect opponent to run on they're we're going to be bigger we're going to be faster we're going to be stronger so does that mean they're going to they're going to kind of they're going to go back to their old ways or they're going to try to implement that 6535 which I would love to see like Landon said bring out the spread Personnel we have so much more options this year I'd love to see those guys shine yeah I can go first with this but what's the most like promising thing you guys could see from this game to me the very most promising thing is if Cam looks mobile and his arm looks like it's back to me that would be like if that's the only thing that I got out of the game that would be huge I agree that it has to be rising related I think just an absence of that long and especially at a position that's the most critical position on the team quarterback he he needs to look good I would like the offense to run smoothly you know very few you know procedural penal penalties as far as false starts or delay of games and just look like we're back on the same page what do you mean by mobile what do you mean that by that with Cam you're talking about like scrambling or kind of being like this mobile the ability to be Mobile in the pocket just Mobile in the pocket like I don't need to see him run a QB power and like break it for 30 yards or something just like stepping up like he looks quick he looks athletic he doesn't go out on the field and look like Tavon did two years ago start of the Season or he's just like big or something like just some light agile just like he doesn't look injured I completely agree on that then like you you hit the points exactly what I want to see just want to see cam look good what about you yeah I think I mean yeah I obviously completely agree with all you guys all eyes are going to be on cam not only Utah fans but the college football world because quite honestly cam is entering this season with he he's a Heisman hopefully I've seen a lot of lists with him being top 10 or 15 on Heisman watch lists and um yeah I feel like um the national media is going to be keeping a close eye on him to see um you know what he's looking like and if he's actually back or if he's going to face um you know if he's going to have to shake some rust off which you know I I don't doubt that there there will there there will be rust but I think um you know he'll come out of it and I don't know this game will be interesting for that reason reason but I'm excited to to watch it regardless I actually feel kind of the opposite as far as the hype I feel like I've seen people like forgetting about him I like I kind of have seen a few lists where like he's not even in like the top like five Big 12 quarterbacks which to me is crazy I think he's being slept on it's funny because I see I see both I think it's either it's either or the end of the spectrum people there's probably quite a mix the people don't even know who he is and they think he's like mightbe probably top Fringe top 10 quarterback in the Big 12 or people like he's the best quarterback in the Big 12 he's going to make huge strides I mean the betable where you rank him but he's definitely a top three top five quarterback in the Big 12 arguably a top 10 quarterback in the country which which will probably like Conor said be Heisman hopeful just because of that okay um as far as you know how long cam plays what would be ideal for you guys I think for me it's just one half just get him in there knock the rust off hopefully throw like three passing touchdowns and get him out and let's see Isaac for the second yeah in my opinion priority number one is make sure cam is still who he was and shake the rust off because we're going to need him this season priority number two is seeing what Isaac Wilson and the rest of the backup players are because that's also something that's going to be extremely important thinking about someone like Mike Mitchell if he dominates in this game that clears up a lot of uncertainty about you RB room yeah I don't know I think I'm a little bit in the minority here probably but um I want to see cam on the first two or three drives and then Isaac for the rest of the time I think you know shaking the the rest off obviously I think only takes one or two drives to be honest with you with a guy like cam that's been in college for eight years I would honestly like to see Isaac a lot more just because if Cam you know horribly went down with an injury again this year um obviously isn't out of the question he's been injured every year of his college career um or that he's played um I I'd want to have some some assurance that at least um you know we know Isaac looks good but um yeah I think that's that's my number one priority I I I would really like to see um a lot of Isaac because especially because we don't have a huge opponent either in week two I mean we we have Baylor they're not expected to be fantastic by any means this year um and I certainly don't think that giving cam extra reps this week will benefit us in any way against Baylor um because I mean let's be honest if if that's the case where we're wanting to get Cam extra reps uh in preparation for this Baylor game we we have a lot more to worry about than just that so yeah I think I want to see him play a little more than you do because I do want to see him like set some of the statistical Utah records like I am looking forward for that I do want him to throw for 3500 passing yards to become the all-time passing yards leader at Utah which I think you know is a little bit of a stretch with the Utah offense sure for me I'm kind of in the middle of all all three of you I want to see him play the quarter kind of like a spring game situation I'll have them come out play the play the first quarter and let Isaac do the rest let let the guys that we want to see of the future Isaac um Mike Mitchell um Dylan I can't zipper I can never say his remember his first name some of those guys that are younger love to see them get the field and kind of make it for themselves for the Utah fandoms that maybe not are as invested as as some others like us us four um but yeah that's probably my ideal scenario cam go seven for nine 150 yards two three touchdowns yeah okay obviously we're all predicting Utah to win by quite a bit um uh is there anything else you guys think we need to preview with suu I mean it's just going to be great to see like a healthy Utah team again yeah I mean I think this is a classic tuneup game what you guys the score predictions score predictions I think we only give up a field goal so I think it'll be three to 55 is my prediction that that was my exact prediction as wellory dude we're locked in right now yeah I'm gonna go 1049 I think uh just because we're gonna have Isaac in there the second half I mean he's don't get me wrong he's great but feel like the offense will won't run as smooth as as with Cam and and that's expected with a you know first year freshman um you know I'm not expecting to see a ton of points with Isaac playing um I'm assuming for at least a half um and then I think the defense um will probably give up some fluke touchdown and then probably a field goal so I'm thinking 10 to 49 not as not as big of a margin as I would hope for but I'm hoping for more obviously but I think that's what the the score will be I mean that's still covering so I think I mean there's so many layers in a game like this if Utah went all out played this like it was the national championship I'm confident they could win 80 to like zero or three oh me too yeah so it's like yeah you're kind of predicting what the coaches will do and what kind of plays they're call so it's I don't know I think the predictions are don't really matter a ton for this week because like we know it's going to be Utah a lot suu a little for me just to kind of finish it off I got like 56 to six yeah I can see it okay I assume you're predicting three safeties for suu for sure six would be crazy with three safeties Rising sacked three times in in the end zone that would actually be concerning for like our future if we give up three safeties one early field goal and one late field goal yeah yeah okay let's move on to the lock of the week so in this section we are going to give our takes of the week and we're going to rate them you know out of 10 so Landon let's talk about yours Isaac Wilson over 1.5 TDS yeah I can explain my take first so the coaching staff has already said they're looking to get Isaac quite a few reps in this game and to me that sounds like okay he's going to come in and he's not just going to hand it off we actually want to see what he can do passing and I just think that our receiving Talent is such an outlier over what suu can do in coverage I think he's scoring at least two D two TDS I think he's honestly going to get that probably in the first quarter that he plays and I didn't even specify like passing TDS so he could run one in and that would still count for this so I don't think it's the hottest take ever but it would definitely be nice to see but what do you guys think about it yeah I don't think it's lukewarm I give it about like a seven out of 10 like on the hot scale I mean it's it's definitely doable but it's definitely like there's a chance that it I mean what if Cam plays the whole quarter and they kind of slow it down yeah I'll give it a six for that same reason you know like what if they just want to get Cam back into it and give him a lot of reps and also what if it's just you know we get down to the five yard line and we just run three straight times you know not that's think of for sure but I I mean I would love to see it I'm definitely rooting for two Isaac Wilson TDS yeah I think the Run game could Factor especially if you know we don't we we don't we get down to the Red Zone and it's uh you know not by explosiveness we I could see us just running it up the gut um I I honestly think it's a four out of 10 I think it's pretty likely especially if Isaac has a whole half to to cook with the offense I think um it's it's honestly pretty dang likely especially with the weapons we have wide out I agree with you Isaac Wilson takes shots too like he throws down the field like he's more trigger happy than I think a quarterback we've had in a while you it's almost like Huntley in that way where Huntley would just Huck it down there you know I just I like if we're going to grade ourselves I would also put it a four out of 10 I just to me it doesn't feel like a stretch at all to have two deep pass plays that we score on and like maybe even it's not that deep like we call goal line passes all the time for someone like keithy or those play action passes oh dude Isaac with that classic like play action bootleg we do would just be art that's beautiful that would be so good I am so excited to see that dude so average is around like a five or six for kind of what we five yeah let's hope he know he has the whole Playbook I'm just so excited to watch Isaac Wilson like I really think that we're seeing a glimpse of the future here agreed I think so as well okay kind of talk about mine so I got Caleb loyer over 0 five touchdowns basically scoring a touchdown here um I think it's going to come later in the game when the starters are out and just kind of sh show off this 6 fo8 freak weapon that Utah somehow cultivated in the offseason yeah I would love to see that you know former basketball player insane vertical jump just throw him up a fade in the end zone and I just want to see what he can do yeah to me I'll rank that at like a seven it's not that I don't think he can I just don't know what kind of opportunities he's going to get like everyone's super high on him but he did switch sports like six months ago and so I feel like we'll just have to see what happens yeah I mean I'll I'll rank that at a five honestly I think um since he's he's not buried in the dep depth chart but he's and obviously the whole tight end room is going to be hting in throughout the season um but I do think he'll get he'll get a lot of reps especially with Lon saying you know he's he's new to football and to the team so I think we'll try to factor him in quite a bit so I I think it's pretty likely that he uh he gets one yeah for me it's honestly going to be like a four because I think that they're gonna try to get some info on him because this is the time to do it I think especially against the easiest game of the year you know you're not going to win you just want to see how he adjusts and I would rather do that now than week four versus Oklahoma State see how he takes a hit if I was going to make a parlay I would do the Isaac Wilson over 1.5 and the Caleb loiner cuz I think Isaac Wilson's going to throw one to Caleb lyer you think so that would be I do I really do it just makes sense to me because they both are going to be in when we're trying to see the depth Red Zone Target Caleb loner is going to be huge and I think Isaac Wilson will just put it up there and some like 510 DB will be on loner and he'll just go up and get it bold I love it okay for my take mine is rising to keithy over .5 TDS which is basically just them scoring a TD I definitely don't think this is a bold take this is just something that I'm I'm wishcasting this you know these are two of my favorite players ever I want to see them link up for a classic touchdown it's just something you know I just I I desperately want to see it again I can't lie this is a one for me this is like the most obvious one I could think of like I feel like it's almost inevitable like there's just no possible way that rising's favorite Red Zone Target who's also back doesn't even score a single TD against suu just seems obvious for me yeah this is this is a one for me as well just because um you know not only is he a Red Zone Target but u i mean you guys saw in 2021 where he broke loose against Oregon uh multiple times just down the middle of the field he broke like five different tackles um that clip is like burn into my brain but um yeah I feel like just if even if he catches the ball at like the 30 yard line on our side of the field him finding the endzone wouldn't be that unrealistic just because he's a straight athlete so um yeah definitely a very cold take for me for me this is in the name of the segment the lock of the week like yeah this is the lock of the week I think this is definitely a one out of 10 I mean it's one of those things where if you're a betting man and this has a you want to put a dollar down and get 50 cents back yeah this for me I'm sure I'll have hotter takes as the weeks go by but this is just something I I want to see you know oh for sure and I mean the name of the segment lock of the week we got to have the lock exactly definitely that lock okay this week let's talk about Connors now yeah uh mine uh I've got uh the boys getting over four and a half team sacks um I don't know man I think just suu's offensive line just will not be able to handle our our front seven I just it's just a complete mismatch um especially with Logan Foo coming back from I think he was injured in the Oregon State game last year um he's also been hungry I think Connor OU especially um also injured last year I think both those guys are going to be super hungry coming off the edge um van fillinger another guy coming back I've heard some great things about him and then obviously our our whole front seven as a unit loner Barton uh KY Reed um I know we we like to factor in some corner blitzes so um I don't think this is too crazy but um you know this is something I know it's a little bit more hopeful four and a half um sacks is a little bit lofty but um I don't know I think our guys are just going to be hungry and obviously we're playing a very inferior offensive line yeah to me honestly this one for me you got it you got it landed I would give it like a five I was going to go a little bit less likely because over four and a half sacks is a lot but then just kind of watching that footage from the 2022 game of suu dude scall was bringing the house we had like seven sacks that game mhm and so just thinking about that it might be more likely than just looking at the number and how good our defensive line is so that's like a five for me yeah I think for me it this is actually the hottest take of the day I think because I think suu will know that their offensive line can't match up with Utah's defensive line so they're going to scheme things you know like run plays quick passes I do think that there's still a good chance of it but you know as far as all these takes go I think it's the boldest so I'll give it an eight out of 10 yeah I'm the same way I think this is the boldest take of the week in all retrospect like like you've all said it four and a half it's probably likely um but I got it the same with Isaac's over one and a half touchdown seven and a half I think it's it's definitely hot and I think it's definitely going to be something that to look forward to seeing if that will be be the be the case for this this game great let us know in the comments what you uh what the viewers lock of the week is we'll respond to them and give them a rating when we see the might see next com video yeah exactly you might be featured if you get a really good I mean we're looking to add a mailbag section A Q&A section and so if you comment you almost have a 100% chance that we're going to talk about it next week yeah 100% okay let's move on to the Big 12 weekly preview so we're just going to go through not every game because some of the games are you know against FCS teams that are not going to be very interesting to talk about but some of the bigger games of the week I think let's start with North Dakota State at Colorado what are your guys's initial thoughts on this game my initial thoughts on this game I think it's being a little overhyped I think Colorado could blow them out potentially I think they might win by 20 plus if I had to predict it right now I would say they win by at least two scores no I don't know I would have to say North Dakota State's my lock of the week to win really I love that I think I don't I mean obviously it's it's not super likely um I think Dion you know there there's a lot of uh interesting things happening with that program since he came on um a lot of off the field things um with the whole comani mlan situation um you know lots of there's always lots of chatter around that program as long as Dion's around um you know I think on The Field's a different story um I don't think Colorado is going to be very very great this year is obviously always a threat um and I don't know how much talent they have on the on the wide yet I have to go look at their roster but I think North Dakota State I mean they I think they have like five or six FCS championships in the past 10 or 15 years program awesome program and um you know I think they're going to be coming into the game hyped I think there's a lot of hype around this game and I think North Dakota State can can feed off that a little bit um so I don't know we it'll be an interesting interesting one to watch I do do think Colorado um will win obviously I was joking about the North Dakota State lock but um it's definitely one to keep your eye on I do think this is one of those interesting ones for a FCS team to cover I mean the line being only 10 and minus 10 for Colorado is very very interesting um North State's good I mean they have a lot of NFL talent in the league they have two NFL quarterbacks they're not very great but I mean North Kota State can go out there into Boulder and make a statement and kind of play really really well the season looks dark for Colorado and for me that's the biggest question mark I mean Colorado is my Boomer bus team this year for in the Big 12 they could legit legitimately be in the Big 12 championship game or they can be in on Not Bow eligible it's it's one of those things I have no idea how to read them um they have the talent it's just can they put on the field like Conor I don't think it's as dark as you guys are saying I think Colorado is a little bit better than that um I expect Colorado to win this I expect them to cover but I do think that you know it's a good first test okay uh let's move on to the next interesting game which is probably um TCU at Stanford that's a really like interesting pairing that you know didn't really expect to see that one yeah it's kind of unusual tcu's been going through a little bit of turmoil let down season after the college football playoff appearance I do think they're going to be better than Stanford though so I've got TCU winning this one I'm not super high on their quarterback Hoover I don't think he's great but I think that overall their team's talented enough they'll be able to get the job done against Stanford yeah I'm in agreement with that I think um you know TCU um from what they've done and from what I've heard in the offseason um you know things are looking decently optimistic um a lot better than last year obviously where they uh had quite a bit of a fall off after their their championship CH run um but yeah I do think TCU will win in cover yeah I'm in the same boat I think TCU is one of the better teams in the Big 12 this year they look really really good on paper I think they it's another it's a big bounce back here after a disappointing season last year I do think Stanford is better than they were at previous years I do like Troy Taylor as their head coach you thought fans obviously pretty familiar with him being a former OC um I think it could be a fun game I don't know about the spread it's very interesting I do think TCU covers I think they cover but it's a close close cover probably 14 I think the covers nine and a half um but I think it'll be a fun game to keep your eye on to watch a 9 9:30 p.m. game is always fun P 12 after dark yeah that's kind of my take on it I think the night the late game Friday night kind of cross country from TCU I do think TCU is the better team I do think they have better coaching and better talent and I expect them to win but I'm actually going to go with Stanford to cover that spread I think it's GNA be kind of a tight game that TCU pulls out okay let's move on um probably the Big 12 game of the week is Penn State at West Virginia obviously this is the return trip of the home and Home West Virginia traveled to Penn State last year um this year I think people expect it to maybe be a little closer what do you guys what is your guys' read on this game I do think it will be more competitive but I still like Penn State here you can talk about Drew Aller say oh he's not very great I don't think Garrett green for West Virginia is very great either and I just think Penn State's overall more talented they also got Kansas's offensive coordinator which to me feels like it can only be an improvement over what they've been doing the past few seasons well here's something kind of crazy with Penn State they're overall offensive ranks are actually pretty dang good like they're a top 10 offense they just play horrible against every team that's good and they blow out every like bad team like they seriously 70 points against every like G5 or FCS team they play they St every team the good team yes as soon as they play a good team they can't break 20 points like it's just crazy so hopefully that's something that can be fixed I still have Penn State here I just think they're a much better team than West Virginia yeah I think um I I like Penn State here uh I think the fact that it's not at Beaver Stadium is huge for West Virginia though I think if they were traveling there um yeah it wouldn't even be a question to to pick Penn State um Penn State at home is just insanely dangerous unless you're playing Michigan or Ohio State so um yeah I I I really do I like Penn State here I think West Virginia has a shot um I know a lot of people I know uh Pat MC and chimus um picked West Virginia to uh to win the whole thing um on game day last week but um yeah I mean they're returning some pieces and you know they uh they've looked decent um I know a lot of people are uh are pretty hyped up on him this year so it should be an interesting game to see where both teams are at um for me I'm a little bit higher on Penn State then than probably the most at least people us four in this podcast I mean you got a quarterback who doesn't turn the ball over a lot of and Drew Aller two t two interceptions last year you got an incredible run attack with uh with Allen and single ter back I think being Conor was asking about that earlier single ter and Allen both being back is huge for for Penn State I think allowing Drew Aller to have those weapons um in the Run game as safety Valves and just excellent running backs to to get you a lot of rushing yards and a lot of rushing touchdowns really takes that that load off of Dal which is probably the biggest question mark for him he doesn't like like I said he doesn't perform in big games they blow out the the teams are supposed to I do think Penn State wins I do think they they win pretty convincingly and cover and go on to have a pretty decent season this year hopefully I do think this is an interesting spot um you know looking at recruiting rankings or like The rosters Penn State obviously has a huge Advantage there but new OC Road environment it's it's really tough to cover on the road is like my especially in like a good environment it's tough to cover on road so I'm again going to go West Virginia to cover but Penn State to win okay let's move on to the next game South Dakota State at Oklahoma State obviously South Dakota state is kind of an FCS Dynasty multiple national championships one of the best teams the spread is only around 10 so it's not like Oklahoma State is favored to just destroy them um for reference the Georgia Tech Florida State spread was around a similar distance to this one here what are your guys's thoughts on the game I think the odds makers are telling you something right off the bat 10 is kind of crazy and it's not like they're on the road this is a home game for Oklahoma State I do still have Oklahoma State winning this one in my opinion and I do think it's possible they cover but that's something I would keep your eye on it's the kind of game where I wouldn't be that surprised if they beat them by like two scores and I also could see this going to overtime I mean truthfully I could even see South Dakota State beating them by two scores similar to what South Alabama did to them last year maybe it's something with like the directional teams you never know yeah I uh I gotta be honest I've actually got South Dakota State winning this game um I uh I've heard Rumblings that Oly Gordon um I don't know what what the deal is with the DUI uh if he's if he's being punished I don't think he is I don't think he's sitting out any games but I I did hear that he was injured um in Fall camp or uh late summer so um if he doesn't play this game I I really do think South Dakota state has an amazing shot um yeah and like lenon mentioned South Alabama beat Oklahoma State last year at home um 33 to7 destroyed them like it was a complete whooping anything is possible yeah I I and the fact that South Dakota state is uh you know one one of the best FCS teams um if not the best uh recently the best I I I got them uh I've got them winning this one um I really uh I don't know I think this is my the hot take of the week obviously but um I don't like Oklahoma State's quarterback I think he's pretty turnover prone and uh I think we could see some mistakes early on from him I mean I love that pick honestly I picky back off for you I'm not a believer in okl state I think they're probably the most overrated power four team in the country um we've G on links on this discussion I don't know if I really want to get into it again but I think South South D go state is a team that can score some freaking points and with Oklahoma State's defense they're not going to they're not going to be slowing them down at all I mean they both they have um their starting quarterback came coming back in Mark granowski um led the team to multiple 40 plus point games I think more than half their team their their their games last year they scored 45 plus points um he doesn't turn the ball over they're GNA they're going to pass over okman State the midle lineb going to have a hard time okman state does have a good offense they can definitely probably score a lot of points on South Dakota State also but I don't think they have have what it takes to to take out the jack rabbits andom State's going to lose this game and and obviously not cover with a 10 and a half with a 10 point spread I think for me it all comes down to whether South Dakota State can stop the run because I think if they can stop the run they can make it a shootout and I don't think Oklahoma state is really built for shootouts I'm not sure like how much I believe in Alan Bowman to really you know put a team on his back and score some points when they have to so for me it's really can South Dakota State you know their inferior Talent hold up to ok Oklahoma State's kind of Veteran offensive line I am going to go with Oklahoma State um but I do think it's quite a good game okay let's move on to the next game of the week do we want to talk about UNLV Houston or do we want to move on to Wyoming Arizona State I think we can move on honestly I don't have any like deep insights about UNLV or Houston in this game yeah okay uh Wyoming Arizona state is interesting because I feel like it's a really good chance for both programs to start their season off well I think Arizona state if I was Kenny Dillingham this is one I would really be circling because I think an opening win could get some momentum going with a talented roster yeah I mean Wyoming is they're good dude like they beat Texas Tech last year they've had some good Seasons this is not just some random G5 team this is a good program and so with that I am going to predict Arizona State to win at home it feels like Wyoming has been a lot more dangerous when they've been at home I think it will be a pretty good game though yeah I think uh if I'm not mistaken I think Arizona State um got scared pretty bad by suu either last year the year before that um in a in an early preseason bout um I like Arizona State here I think hopefully Kenny Dillingham starts turning a corner I really like him as a head coach and a guy um you know really respect him and hopefully he can start putting the pieces together I know that program's been AB abolutely through the the grinder but um yeah I think hopefully they I I I predict them to pull off a win against Wyoming and I think it would be it would start to build a decent resume for uh for Arizona State to kick off the season one thing I can say I have two words cam skabo scaboo scaboo scat skabo same thing I freaking love I even though I can't say his name I freaking love this man watching him against USC last year just was incredible he just what he does on the field is so much fun to watch I don't know much about this about either TEAM Arizona State's probably one of those teams where I'm like why do I care much about him right now because they've been so bad it's been hard to really get myself to uh to dive into them and then obviously I I know little to anything about Wyoming um but scaboo is the reason I'm probably going to be turning into to this game can't really miss anything with that guy he's he's electric so I have Arizona winning and just because of him yeah I think Arizona State while not going to be a great team this year I think is a slightly underrated they do have some Talent there and I do believe in Kenny Dillingham as a coach so I'm gon go with an opening win over Wyoming for them I think it'll be a pretty close game but I'm going to go for an opening win okay any final thoughts before we conclude this podcast boys football is back Suther Illinois is probably going to win this week they look really good their opponent looks trash as always similar Talent level on the roster yeah it's interesting how the uh the OC is not um Aaron rogi has not announced the starting QB for for BYU uh quote unquote they don't want to they want to make their opponent prepare for both guys so um that just kind of tells you all you need that is Illinois seriously taking him seriously it's like imagine if we had hid Cam's injury status this year like we'd be that would be the biggest clown show of all time it's like oh is he gonna play they have to prepare for both as you know Southern Illinois is better going to be better than any opponent Utah plays this year man I can't lie dude if you if your team is constructed similar to BYU you kind of need every Advantage you can get like they're they're solidly in the Los range against Southern Illinois so I honestly don't hate the choice well I think the main um inhibitor I mean they've got um Chase Roberts coming back I know they lost Ben Bywater their uh one of their awesome linebackers um those two are were kind of the standouts as far as talents go on that team and um I really don't like what I saw out of banan and I like even less what I see out of red SL I don't think BYU has a way to go as far as QB goes no they don't and offensive line has usually been one of BYU strengths um you know in past years I don't think it will be this year um their defense is always suspect um I mean we'll see I it'll be it should be a close one should be an entertaining game um it's at home so I do give BYU The Edge probably but um yeah like I said I mean if they're if they're hiding their QBs that kind of tells you uh you know they're already kind of in meltdown mode so we'll see what happens yeah they had a bad QB in offensive line last year and they lost their best QB and best offensive lineman and they're the least talented power four team by recruiting rankings it's pretty dark out there okay thank you all for watching um we're g to do these episodes every single week let us know anything in the comments that you would like to see you
