The Tragically Hip - Wheat Kings (REACTION) First Time Hearing It

everybody hope your day is going well we are back with The Tragically Hip Wheat Kings a request by Bob thank you so much for this request and donation and I believe this was inspired uh by an actual true story this song um I believe the mother of this person told the band about uh about the struggles their son was going through uh that he was innocent in prison maybe a wrongful conviction and then they were inspired to write this song uh I think that's what it is let's check out Wheat Kings [Music] [Music] sun down in the Paris of the Prairies we Kings of all Treasures bu all you hear are the Rusted Bree pushing around ve Jesus ooh and there's also some text on the screen here so I'm just reading it very quickly then I'm W watching uh to the other side and listening to the lyrics believe me my brain needs over stimulation as a person in recovery I can deal with it um this is the link in the request so I always follow that one uh so it's about a person was it David Milgard Mard I think it's it was okay so that's the person the story uh is about okay wow I really like that line pushing around the Weather Vein Jesus like Weather Vein is is that instrument to determine the direction of the wind right and it changes like people's beliefs in this case maybe Weather Vein Jesus in hip-hop terms we would call that's a bar I think that's what it means like people's beliefs they sway like almost the direction of the wind [Music] Jesus SE the Killer's face maybe it's someone standing in a killer [Music] years's dang no one's interested in something you didn't do they just want to see blood they just want to see people get locked up for some and it doesn't really matter who it is sometimes you know you just want to O So he was convicted for for for Life 20 years for nothing well that's nothing new this isn't the first time it happened I believe this is uh Canada right but it's it happens everywhere in the world that's the yeah that's I can't even imagine just being at the wrong time wrong place and your life gets turned upside down like that and there's so much uh powerlessness you can't do what can you do CU they're not interested in what you didn't do like I need to I'm going to read up after this on on this particular case [Music] wow that voice man he sound [Music] [Applause] amazing Kings and pretty things [Music] let's just see what the morning break there's a dreamy dreams where the high school is dead and star a music dang oh sorry sorry I said I could handle it but holy moly sorry that's a reaction that's a reaction 23 years and his mother oh my God that's hard breaking so it was his mother's name is Joyce I'm going to go back and now I'm just going to read the read along with the lyrics I have here on the other screen oh my D 23 years I'm going to go back a hold back and just now focus on the oh my Lord wow 23 years 23 years for being and I said it before for being in the wrong place and time 23 years of your life and all the other people involved wow [Music] [Applause] Kings and pretty [Music] things let's just see what the morning bre fck there's a dreamy dreams where the high school is dead and star it's a museum and we're all locked up in it after dark the walls are lined all yellow gray and Sinister hung with pictures of a parents prime minister oh we King and pretty things wait and see what Tom tomorrow wow just the way they wrote this too man so well done so well done there's like there's the line between abstract and vagueness and specificness about a certain topic so well balanced in this song O and then the performance oh man oh man and then I also saw that he if he would have just admitted he it would have only lasted eight years which is less than half much less than half what he actually ended up doing but yeah no he remained uh you know he kept saying or at least you know said he was innocent I didn't do it and uh you know actually saying oh man you yo much respect but I [ __ ] what happened to the people to do this you know are there any consequences of doing that man oh no it's just a mistake that's all let's move on with our lives in meantime 23 years of all these people's lives are are destroyed right yeah Injustice is a tough one to deal with as as is but you know then you go and zoom in on these cases like oh wow incredible song man that they were that inspired to do this and the way they did they they're doing it man it's just [Music] genius play breaking story on the CBC a nation Whispers we always knew that he'd Go free they add you can't be fond of living in the past if you are then there's no way that you're going to last wow we Kings and [Music] pretty let's just see what tomorrow bring and pretty [Music] things that's what tomorrow break [Music] wow and then we got a bunch of names of people who probably have endured similar uh hardships and and been wrongfully convicted a nation Whispers we always knew that he'd Go free like it's so insane man when when everybody's convinced of your innocence you maintain it and then in 97 he was uh then released but because of DNA EV evidence when did they start really using DNA for evidence was that during the ' 90s was it way before um cuz that cleared up a lot of things or got people caught uh way after the fact I just don't know when when the time what the timeline is for that incredible song uh this is only the second song by The Tragically Hip we check out uh but man I'm impressed uh with their yeah with their music and just the writing the voice I know the lead singer has since passed away but man amazing song CBC that's a network in Canada C could stand for Canada B Broadcasting Company it's always the same NBC ABC you know just different letters in front of it uh so yeah it's not really that hard to figure out actually if I think about it wow incredible uh incredible song What A Story it's uh yeah it's one of those things that reality is supersedes fiction and anything you can write you know I'm a writer in reality ity is you know magical realism is Stranger Than Fiction sometimes how does it happen uh it's it's infuriating it's it's you know we don't understand it always wow what a story 23 years man can't even imagine that wow so we we got a couple of things in one here uh we got got a story true story got a song inspired by it uh by the mother approaching uh The Tragically Hip that's the thing coming together here and I believe the country was uh convinced of his innocence wow oh yeah I'm going to read a little bit more about this after this I'm going to look up some articles uh if I can find any uh thank you for this request thank you for being here and joining me uh listening to this song Beautiful thank you so much for being here have a wonderful day peace
