the one thing about me is I'm I'm gonna always find a way we're going to always you know continue to shy for the best and try to achieve my dreams in any way possible DeAndre Overton born on April 19th 1998 and died on September 7th 2024 was an american professional football wide receiver he played college football for the Clemson Tigers at latter spent time with the Hamilton Tiger Cats Vienna Vikings Phil Philadelphia Stars Pittsburgh MERS and Memphis showboats Overton was born in Greensboro North Carolina and attended Walter Hines page Senior High School in Greensboro North Carolina where he competed in football and basketball as a junior he averaged 14.6 points per game in basketball and made 31 catches for 577 yards in football as a senior in football he made 78 receptions for 1,251 yards and scored 15 touchdowns he was the number four overall Prospect in the state according to 247 Sports Overton committed to Clemson University over offers from NC State North Carolina South Carolina and Tennessee as a freshman in 2016 he made two catches for 48 yards and scored a touchdown on his first career reception in 2017 Overton played in 14 games and made 14 catches for 178 yards as a junior in 2018 he caught 14 passes and scored three touchdowns while gaining 199 yards in 14 games as a senior in 2019 Overton recorded 22 catches for 352 yards and scored three touchdowns appearing in 15 games with five starts he was voted a team captain and was an academic all-atlantic Coast Conference ACC selection in a win against Boston College he tied the school record with three touchdown catches making a rear High 119 yards to earn offensive player of the game and ACC receiver of the week honors Overton won two national championships at Clemson in 2016 and 2018 and finished his college career with 52 catches for 777 yards and seven touchdowns about DeAndre Overton professional career after completing his college career Overton declared for the 2020 NFL draft however due to the highly competitive nature of the draft and the depth of talent available Overton went undrafted undeterred he continued to pursue his professional dreams and signed with the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the Canadian Football League CFL in May 2021 Overton's transition to the CFL was an opportunity for him to Showcase his skills on a different platform the CFL known for its wideopen style of play and larger field dimensions allowed Overton to utilize his speed and size to his Advantage although his time with the Tiger cats was brief it provided valuable experience and exposure in search of further opportunities Overton explored other professional leagues including the spring league and the United States football league usfl his adaptability and willingness to embrace different challenges demonstrated his commitment to making it in professional football in 2022 Overton joined the usfl Philadelphia Stars where he continued to develop his craft as a wide receiver Overton's journey through very ious leagues highlights the challenges that many players face in professional football while the path to the NFL is often viewed as the ultimate goal Overton's experiences unders sore the reality that there are multiple Avenues to pursue a career in football his time in the CFL and usfl provided him with valuable playing time and the opportunity to hone his skills against strong competition DeAndre Overton's playing style was characterized by his physicality reliable hands and ability to make plays in crucial moments his height and wingspan made him an excellent Target in the Red Zone where he can outmuscle Defenders and come down with difficult catches additionally his experience in multiple leagues made him a more versatile player capable of adjusting to different styles of play and offensive schemes about his death on September 7th 2024 Overton was shot and killed while attending a party in Greensboro he was 26 years old my rest ey peace thank you for watching [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
