did not see him anymore he stepped away from the team he spent that year at home he says he's excited to play football for the first time since August 26 the third and final preseason game last year he opens up with a handoff a couple of yards here last Thursday a couple of days ago in the joint scrimmage The Joint practice with the Cowboys he will be ready week number one and ready right now is a rookie wide receiver who you got to get used people both stepping in in the game is what they need to see winning in a rookie from Texas a sixth round pick takes it out to the 46 Ronnie Rivers trying to get around the left side Rivers brought down by the linebacker Rams now with a second and eight on 47 Little Play Fake to rivers and a roll out and a throw and a completion that Xavier Smith who we saw last year from Wake Forest third and four Rams on their opening drive have to get to the Cowboys 4 four yd line Rivers Remains the back and he's going to take the hand off from Bennett lower his shoulder I don't think he is going to get there R into a wall the Cowboys the and Maran nean there holding up rivers to Force fourth and one I'm all for going forward fourth and one why not here it is the preseason from under Center the play fake and the roll out ston Bennett can run a little bit and he's got the first down they told us on Friday and we saw last year firsthand here at Sofi he is a gamer didn't always look great in practice last year in training camp but he got out of here and he made a lot of throws and they're hoping to see more of that today as Ronnie Rivers is starting well get certainly had his moments that impress went out there in camp at LMU second and 11 Rams backing up five after the rivers run over the middle it's Winnington who breaks it Jordan Winnington inside the 20 inside the 10 oh man you're seeing there what they've been raving about all Camp which is the physic one in OTAs you saw Jordan wington taking some snaps with the ones MC was asked about it should we read into that he shrug his shoulders and said no good early returns here for the rookie out of Texas rivers a couple of yards you're not going to see him come September second down Rams can get a first down without getting into the end zone they set up the screen to the right that is Rivers who gets tripped up in the back field but Turf got him first about so get the off that way too third and nine Zack Evans into the game at running back throw over the middle incomplete in traffic he wanted Davis Allen it's fourth down from 28 from the near side hash put the Rams on the board and he Nails his first NFL kick to make it three no Blitz there Rico dle starts the game running back for the Cowboys Ezekiel Elliot wearing 15 will not be seen here today he is on the sideline however as D gets good yardage there over the right side gets nine yard 3 nothing early just under eight minutes remaining here in the first boys keep it on the ground again and they pick up that first down Donald D gets the first down across the four Cooper rushed to throw and he takes a shot down the left sideline that is caught inside the 20 great bis for that wide receiver three spot all receivers named Jaylen interestingly that was Jaylen Brooks the Rams have four defensive backs named cam or Cameron oh by the way as well we have time to unpack that a little bit later clock at five Cooper Rush takes the snap bobbled caught tackled immediately there the reception brings up third and seven we see Chula there on the sideline finally gets that promotion with Raheem Morris in Atlanta schula is the new defensive coordinator pressure ball to the end zone incomplete yd field goal All Pro last year as a 28-year-old rookie kicker the guy hit 35 straight to start his career some new spots but it's been good to kind of get some some depth going that way right some guys that maybe didn't get the opportunity or wouldn't have gotten the opportunity had these injuries not happened are now forced into some action and hopefully you know build some good depth for us later in the season while also Texas and and we're happy to have him but he's done a nice job for us um him and Tyler Johnson really done uh a really nice job guys that are in the game right now hey if he doesn't you know catch passes Matthew is STS and Bennett here takes a deep shot ooh knocked away once time I'm not letting a pick happen so I uh I just snagged it I don't know instincts took over uh but probably would have been smarter to have not done that but oh well I was impressed I was waiting for a celebration at the end yeah you know I just was really embarrassed with how how many steps it took me to get in the end zone I felt like I fell down the opening drive on this second Drive after a deep shot he gets picked off and now Trey Lance is into the game here for the Dallas Cowboys and he starts with great G the way the ners hoped it would it's funny by the way to think Jimmy garolo now who he with is on the is on the Rams we're not seeing him but uh you know there's still a lot of Believers in his potential he's still a very young quarterback he's the same age as that can come in if Dak Prescott gets hurt that's what the Cowboys have to figure out he get another shot ated here as they get the first out near the 30 it's a gain of four yeah and I think that's the challenge when you talk about these quarterbacks who aren't the starter just want Johnson makes the tackle the man of Mr Irrelevant a year ago as Lance has the plate pi and the roll out chased by Captain throw to the side line and I don't want to call it the world second and 10 Trey Lance a play fake Lance with a deep shot going Endzone and he overshots he overshoots aart Hender shot coverage there by 38 the veteran DB Shawn [Applause] Jolly so we got Chris schula who's now the defensive coordinator with Raheem Morris's departure calling the plays for the defense what do you think they do here on this third down I think they're going to sit back they're going to play they're going to sit back a little bit I I you know Chris is really excited for this opportunity man young energy he he's a fun guy be around I'm excited for him to see what he does Lance on third down has time steps up eyes downfield Lance is going to run Lance has the first down inside the 20 slides near the 10 Lance can always make plays with his legs and when there was nothing there number 19 ran for 19 fought aasi coralled him at the 12 the danger there sometimes when you when you sit back as you talking about in those zones when you're playing a mobile quarterback like that yeah you lost a little rush Integrity there the defensive end over here van venberg got pushed down in and you leave that lane for the quarterback there's a lot of space for an athlete like him the Run Zach venberg who saw last year practice squad pressure again Lance dumps it off Malik Davis breaks the tackle Davis to the six Tackle by tan Johnson a great effort play right there by desan Johnson I mean if he does if he's not hustling right there out of the stack uh this is going to be a tough TouchDown for sure he does a great job hustling chase the screen the quarterback turned around and run the ball carrier down cuz that was a touchdown the rookie Tyler Davis the sixth round pick out of Clemson 49 game started the most in that proud program's history had the pressure wearing number 90 second down now from the six a pitched left Davis running left chased and hit and dropped in the back field good job Russ and they stand up again they stood up last time down in this territory be another great opportunity for a young defense to kind of show their fight their tenacity uh to hold up down here in this situation that's a great effort in Tackle by yeast who I I almost I did Double Take cuz I was actually surprised to see him out there he was a a starter for this Rams defense last year now I think fighting to be play Star position for them sort of their version of the nickel curious to see how he plays today and Cameron mckitchen there as well wearing 41 on Third and five low snap pressure throw to the sideline that is caught out of bounds right near the marker it's Jaylen up on one of those did you see with the the surfing the the the sailing rather uh that's not going to be my deal I don't think no pay to see it second and nine stensson Bennett from his end zone after the change of sides of the field throws a completion to the far sideline Austin Scott to his left third and six yard deep of the end Z throws near sideline and throws complete for a r first down it's Xavier Smith gets busy today get comfortable get in a rhythm once again the ball's coming out quickly he looks at here three catches on three targets for Xavier Smith and a play fake here Smith now short but Bennett's going to Sling It long across the middle and he's got Tyler jum and the Rams have it now on the 43 yd line Smith goes in motion Boston Scott nice push there yeah Scott to the 50 yd line it's a great run by Scott nice Vision patience experience as well played with the Eagles obviously known there as the Giant Killer obviously had some great moments there against the NFC rival and good moment here Scott into cowboys territory across the 40 for another Rams importance to the team absolutely second and eight Bennett on the roll out that's good throw to Z Smith today good to see Xavier Smith catch another pass here obviously when he came into the league a lot of people thought he he's a Return Man only not the biggest guy but here in the preseason um getting work done outbreaking routes getting work done gets a couple yards and the Rams is going to go for it quickly on fourth down and they're going to run got it and they're going to get it thought he was going to go down early right there that Turf monster almost got him game management specialist from the Tennessee Titans John striker not saying that influence is showing here but that's something to monitor during the season absolutely also love the name John Str scr baby good man Boston Scott there who in his he's a ram though not a renegade Renegades are waiting if this does work Drake stoop certainly a productive receiver in college Bennett little too much gas on that one wanted winning two for 43 early for Winnington Rams got to get to the 15 vett has time goes End Zone Tyler Johnson can't hang on that was close he had him right there there's now two opportunities they the first one to get the Rams on the board first this one looks nice and smooth and easy and effortless his career long is 61 he's got a big left from the slot so he's he has a stud he's mature Beyond his years we really like him as puka obviously had that great rookie season last year and we saw that early shot being able to play through the hands right there and the prep and what you've seen so far from Chris schula and his defense in the first year there obviously with Chris he's done a great job you know I think really he and his coaches as a whole excellent job creating Clarity um play a single high probably a fire zone behind it and that's what we did good oh first down Davis able to push forward to get that first down it was desan Johnson there on the edge 96 he's down there in the Red Zone uh this guy played play with tenacity all game long he does you know the last time I was on here he had a pick six too maybe maybe oh Tyler Tyler Davis beating the back block of the center quickly make the Rams 49 to get a new set of down shotgun here lur the rush contain against Lance it's a good play by him you lose contain escapes with his eyes down Lake clocks at four and the Run left to give to bik Davis 03 met him in the hole he did a good job of kind of just skinning and through with the running back get an extra couple yards but it's a difference between guys they play with the tenacity of grit they got the mental and physical toughness we're looking for we're really counting on big things and get this lost the flat control right there guys are bad luck I come on play uh that dude seems to play with a lot of passion and interview you said it Andrew that was a huge play because they end up getting no points out of that and that really it was Jason Taylor and him the only guys left Jason Taylor ends up forcing it back inside Dez reads out of the is able to make the catch spin inside ramps territory to the 20 and the Cowboys got a drive going here nothing in the right quick game they're cutting up front nice job right there cam kitchens you Bobble the S out in just the post at Miami and uh we're asking him to do some different things but he's a smart conscientious guy I love working with him and he's getting better and better Tyler Davis got home again big third 10 [Applause] win right here yeah there it is Lance pressure no flag H's in position good job decline that so hey two for two you can't do any better than that can you no you can't us I think you missed that oh man that looked he got it you got a better angle in meage and the Cowboys the impact he has on theb field uh he's going to be a good one sure here he is again here's Jordan winning 10 Again busy you see her about he felt his presence during the scrimmage I think that's a huge compliment to a young rusher for a veteran quarterback as good as him to notice you in a practice gain of six for Whittington on that first one Zack Evans he knows his team is already getting banged up probably going to play it safe here you would have to think yeah and they're they're having a lot of scrimmages too as well they've already had one with the Chargers they had one with the Cowboys uh you know they're they're on the schedule out was way more than you ever played in a preseason game three starters already banged up in the o line you do have right now Warren McLendon out there wearing 71 so one of the guys who will be relied on as a key backup as Bennett is lucky that did not get State went to Ohio you put up good numbers in here trying to make the Rams Bennett on third down has Todd has Winnington and he's got another one has another Rams first down it was told today that if it were a playoff game as puka obviously is not out there knee injury maybe he'd be able to play week one he should be good as Zack Evans gets around corner and lowers his shoulder here in preseason week one he just gets open so good against Zone coverage second and eight and off to Zack Evans the second year back has some room and he falls forward to the 35 it's gain of four joined us earlier appreciate that Rams two for seven on third down need to get 31 Evans is the back and he will get the carry and get net in the hole with nowhere to go so it'll be fourth down and now the Rams will call a timeout qualities all right Rams going to go for it they're two for two on fourth down today fourth and three need the 31 got Whittington bottom of the screen there it's up the Mike Zimmer look here we are a little double a action dou a gap they drop Whittington at the 30 Winnington fights forward and gets that first down find a way to fight for those extra yards Whittington out of the tackle of Scott and getting to the 30 and now the Rams are the clock moving Bennett nice catch on the 30 that's wiggas Sam wiggas the rookie free agent out of Ohio with a nice catch to put him in the red zone and now a time out with the clock at 39 after a gain of 11 I I think Nina this is really impressive by ston Bennett I mean you got to understand those guys reps I think it's been Trey Lance ever since and he's going to open up on his own 28 yd line with malite Davis in the back field he'll give it to Davis who's got good room run there across the 30 yd line Des Juan John relevant I don't like either way Brock Pie has clearly done very well desan Johnson not nearly um but he's made some plays here today and contributed last year as a not so irrelevant rookie uh there is a rookie that's is you got valuable experience for guys like Johnson who in previous iterations the Rams probably wouldn't have seen that action as we see the Archer with your former teammate Brandon Cooks watching on and watching Lance on the keeper with round pick out of Oklahoma also played at TCU with Steve Aila actually played a little HB balls out B primarily right tackle so maybe they feel these reps are needed for them to go into season and protect that Prescott because there was a forward fumble out of bounds are going to go back to the spot of the thinking Camp they really thought he you know started off good and then got sick unfortunately and it's kind of been out he's been out ill for the last few day so that's also probably part of it is I think they probably feel there's some snaps there they want to see him get Charles Woods there with the tackle he goes to the sideline one of the nice young defensive backs the Rams have in their secondary rookies undrafted free agent that has made an impression stup interesting to see if this is a guy that we don't know everyone to puka today well guy we don't know about there we go had a lot of success at a smaller School let's see uh little bit of pre- snap motion there gets him in trouble we have former Trojan Deontay prette into the game wide to the left wearing number six and that is a nice tackle there it brings up third and long third and 13 van valkenberg with a little bit of pressure Stevens again with the catch but well short of the first down it Lance needs to get him to the Rams 26 BR bring four Lance flushed out by Johnson flips the hips and throws downfield into traffic on the sideline and with the long hair out from under his helmet uh the Rams have had some moments offensively here's another one for Boston Scott who has run well that's his 10th carry of the day it's good for seven some great moments against their NFC East Rivals play fake to Scott and Bennett rolls out and he LS it and that is caught Cowboy territory that's going to Warrant me the success that I want to have part of the mantra for this team in this franchise is modeled way and obviously no one did that better than Aaron Donald you benefit benefited from learning from him what will you miss the most and and um continuing to take up that leadership role that he left behind and uh showing you know and modeling the way and uh having my process be something that's worthy of being yeah um he's picked up the reins and has just kept on going uh we all love shulie we love the way that he calls this defense the way he runs it um there's a couple of different things and a lot more communication he has got pipes and by the way Sam wiggas with a nice 16 yd reception as you see the rookie or the rookie uh Center B limmer walking to the sideline get update on him when we can M Bennett looks left brings it down flushed out to the right eyes downfield and will throw it away room he owns the room I think you can feel that vibe from a young defense that we want to rise up and prove to people what we're about Aaron Donald's gone but we want to show you who we're going to be going forward all we'd have a 66 game in the third and we only had one Punt and it just happened you would have said what I believe it cuz I'm here you know but I'll tell you what you guys were just talking about it come on Trey this is a uh this is a you know that was a 19 yard we don't need to we know what happened all right Ray Tomlinson called there 66 game Cowboys Snoop Conor into the game at running back good job right there some gas there from young guys and I trust that will make that play if we get another opportunity at something similar you mentioned cam you have four guys named cam good job Tyler Davis out of the stack hey let's go he's having a great game he is active you know he just shows up that's what you saw at the on the film at Clemson I got it you know it was cool I got a text from Davos Sweeney after we drafted him he said you know there's a lot of great players out of Clemson said if I had an all-time team in terms of who I would want of all these great players we've had he would be on that team and that says a lot from coach Sween he started 49 games at Clemson the most in school history for a defensive player and he has certainly showed up today third and seven Sean see if we can get off the grass right here great job being able to get the in completion and then he's short good it's a good job right there forcing the ball to come out little short of the sticks see if they're thinking about going for it right here Jason Taylor staying out there hey Sean the young DBS that was Jason Taylor have really hit and tackled well today yeah they've done a really good job I've been really pleased with them I think the leadership of Coach schula Aubrey beak you know it's been really on display and really like the depth and the understanding this is a big play for us right here motion into empty oh fourth and three what the heck we got going here with Coach McCarthy Big Win by Cory dur got out oh don't let him escape the come on oh I'll tell you what looks like he got it that's a heck of an effort by Lance Cory Duran wins got a chance to be able to finish that that was I tell you what that that's a good competitive heavy at the point of contact they got a nice tough demeanor about them I like some of these young guys Sean I talk about minut ago I mean you see a bunch of guys different numbers different positions the attitude the way they're flying around a really good sign of of really what Chris schula is trying to implement with this team the attitude the tenacity the speed we play with you can see it down in and down out at every position there's no question there it goes you know there is no question good job venberg running them out of bounds for the negative that's big do you like how your defense having me opportunity to go up against a dual threat quarterback in the preseason like this I think it's great Mina because you know sometimes when you don't get a chance to simulate these looks obviously it's a little bit different approach you know Stetson has some athleticism but you know Matthew and Jimmy can really buy time and Escape but it's different than what Trey does so I think it is excellent for us especially you know some of the guys we're going to play um you know in our division and really throughout the course of the Season that that have the ability 65 y field goal could plays a lot of those guys can emulate Ethan Evans back to punt Tyron Billy Johnson underneath it will let it bounce and for the second time coverage coverage secondary has played well and hit well flag it's to Manny Johnson everything's on the table this is get the energy up great practice situational football a defensive holding call wiped out what would have been ston Bennett's fifth interception Rams have new life new set of downs their own 36 here we go three timeouts Bennett check down you know what baby first down took the check down now the penalty wipes out those 5 yards 39 to go Bennett there's a completion cross the 45 yd line all you got third down with 115 have it on the Cowboys 30 yd line after that personal foul if they're going to work from under Center and toss left to Scott Scott has some room Scott across the 25 nice run there by Boston Scott am Manny Johnson with the tackle behind an AJR Curry block gain of seven and we're under a minute to go offense has been a little more conservative on this drive bleeding clock getting the ball to the running backs in space Bennett lofing forestall has it across the 20 out of bounds first down stops the clock at 49 [Music] this is what we talked about me here's your opportunity right now here we go 49 seconds left in the game the four interceptions don't matter the false starts don't matter any none of that matters right now get an opportunity go get in the end zone be happy with winning the game G of five there laughing wigless or laughing Stoops a b a part of the left there Stoops Drake Stoops across the 10 he gets a first down to the eight move the sticks and the Rams are in the red zone of the Rams are threatening down six first and goal gain of 12 give to Scott time to run Scott nice move to the inside gets maybe two yds to the six your timeouts and now we get a timeout alad mahammed with the tackle this drive is a great example of why it's so advantageous to have all three timeouts two minutes left because St Bren didn't have to press just taking the check down throwing into the running back throwing your tight ends and the flats outside and suddenly you're you know knocking on the door yeah got got a chance to win the game for your football team that's the ultimate goal at that position can they get it done right here and they were helped by two Dallas penalties the defensive holding now wiped out of Bennett pick and then the personal foul there with winess was hitting the back fourth and goal to tie the game this is it ston Bennett oh he had to tell rolling out to the left Bennett slings it back in the end down all right playmaker Miller forestal and we are tied with 4 seconds to go that's a that's a great second reaction play by Bennett we talked about it you had your opportunity go win the game You' made some mistakes you've had some bad moments but you know what in the biggest moment can you step up and do something for your football team he did it right there phenomenal field keeping his eyes down field phenomenal job flipping his hips great sidearm that's a guy we saw in college absolutely and now the extra point to give the Rams the lead 4 seconds on the clock the rookie Joshua cardi this is for the win right through the upright 13 to 12
